I did better than expected. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5255436 So, after reading of some other challenges, I decided to challenge myself tonight. I set the timer on my phone for ten minutes. Then, I did 10 squats, 10 squats with calf raises, 10 calf raises at the wall, 10 wall push-ups, 10 single leg raises at the wall - each leg. I thought I might make it through two routines before the timer went off. Now, I have to confess that at the end of round 4, I was asking my husband to check how much time was left on the timer. He hasn't figured out my sm... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 21:37:23 EST Thanks, Joy! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5192768

My niece has been scanning and uploading old family photos to Facebook. What an inspiration it has been to me today. Looking at the active person I once was, how much the doing and being outside was just a part of my life has really brought me to a revelation. That is what I miss. As I have gone through life, I have let this part of me slip away. This is a sister and I fishing (nope, didn't catch a thing). H... Sun, 6 Jan 2013 09:30:53 EST Visions and goals, again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5171229 So, still working on those goals - what would it look like if I accomplished a goal? Well, my pants would fit comfortably. I would have the energy and spunk to get done what I want to do each day. When I went to the mountains or the coast to hike, I could do that easily without getting winded or hurting. When I spend time with my kids & grandkids, I could keep up. Better yet, I could walk and talk at the same time. I would enjoy yard work again instead of dreading the pain that comes wi... Wed, 19 Dec 2012 15:50:33 EST Hmmm, imagine a flipbook of me meeting my goals? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5170060 Today's motivation - imagine a flipbook of me as I reach my weight loss and healthy living goals. I realized that I can't imagine beyond the choices that I make today. So, I have decided that for today, I will make the best choices I can and live in faith.

God promises that he has plans for me. Plans that will prosper me and not harm me. He also tells me that the tough times now are preparing me to serve his Kingdom better later, and using me to serve Him now. He also tells me... Tue, 18 Dec 2012 11:02:05 EST Happy Birthday to me! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5139231 As I finally turned the speed limit, and everything starts speeding up from here, I find myself even more committed to taking care of myself. Not so good at tracking, but doing the little things, like parking in the farthest secure parking lot when I can. Pushing myself to walk briskly to and from my car, taking the stairs and carrying my briefcase instead of the elevator and pulling it. Turning down that second helping, sharing my birthday candy with my husband, using wait time for isomet... Sun, 18 Nov 2012 11:16:14 EST Challenge question http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5125911 Here is my challenge - came from my devotions yesterday. Where is my focus? Is it on the benefits of lifestyle change or on the costs? Is it on the freedom and health that will come? Or is it on the things I will have to give up - the choices I will have to make? Still processing this one because it really hit home in many areas of my life. Tue, 6 Nov 2012 08:59:06 EST Tracking my tiptoe steps. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4899846 2 I am loving my water jogging and water aerobics routines. Now, I want to track my yards. One length of the pool is 25 yards. One full lap is 50 yards. I can do 9 laps in the time that I have three mornings per week. So, 9 x 50 = 450. 450 * 3 = 1350. 1350/1760 = .76 In one week, I am doing 3/4 of a mile. But, where do I track that? I am too embarrassed to put that next to our walkers and joggers on land. But, I want to keep track and reward myself as I add more laps pe... Sun, 27 May 2012 11:05:51 EST Tiptoing forward http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4884680 I have been loving my water walking, but today and Friday, my schedule will interfere. So, I still got up at the usual time, ate breakfast at the usual time and left at the usual time. If I keep the routine, I know I will return to the pool asap. Know that I know about chair marching, look out world. All the hours I spend at the computer can work to my physical benefit. I will let you know if it works on the stress level as well. Anyone else ever threaten to put their laptop back into i... Wed, 16 May 2012 19:53:07 EST It only took me five years to listen http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4870017 So, five years ago, my doctor said, "Try water aerobics or swimming. It will take the pressure of your foot and hip, but you can still work out." So, I tried using weight machines. Great, for everything but my foot and hips. I tried an stationary bike. Without having to balance, my hips did well. My foot tolerates it with ice and heat. Then, I found out that the pool at the university where my office is located allows community members to buy "pool membership" for a reasonable price. <B... Mon, 7 May 2012 08:31:54 EST Winter, still? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4771912

Oh, I am so tired of snow and rain and ice. Sigh, but it is so beautiful. Today is the day I start being me in spite of the weather. So, getting my own rain suit - that fits! If I don't start living in the winter, I may never get to start living at all! Mon, 5 Mar 2012 12:59:09 EST I'm back! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4550343 Good Monday! After fighting a cold for a week and half - you know, the nasty kind that makes you run a fever, makes exercising next to impossible, makes doing anything but sleep a chore - I'm back.

And, when we took a trip this weekend, people noticed! They noticed the weight loss. They noticed the shape changes. They noticed that I looked healthier (in spite of my coughing constantly!). So, just when I was wondering how I would get my motivation back, they noticed! Thank you, S... Mon, 24 Oct 2011 08:44:25 EST What is my motivation? Darned if I know? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4514801 What motivates me to lose weight?

Some days it is the clothes that don't fit right and the self-image I have of myself as vibrant, full of energy and enthusiasm, ready to tackle whatever comes my way. When I don't exercise or eat right, I am tired, whiny, with no energy. Problems feel overwhelming. I can't remember where the box is, let alone think outside of it~ I even miss appointments, or am late, not a person to be counted on.

But those are the negatives - the "I... Sun, 2 Oct 2011 09:20:33 EST Healthy Habits for Teachers, too http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4506306 I couldn't help thinking this morning as I read the advice for college and high school students, who advises their teachers? Some of us stay in one classroom for hours at a time with our students coming to us. Some of us move through the building only when our self-contained class moves. Some of us go from school to school, driving, sometimes between towns, with schedules that are so tight any little delay (think tractor on the two-lane) can throw you off for the day.

So for all... Tue, 27 Sep 2011 08:57:11 EST New, New habits http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4476424 It was so easy to make new habits for the end of summer vacation. But now, work started. Started with confusion and disorientation and STRESS! With budget cuts, we have rearranged everyone and everything and now, we all have to work together to make it work. Except, we can't find all of it. Sort of like driving a car with a steering wheel, but the gear shift broke off in Drive. It has a gas pedal, but the brake just floats to the floor. And, the engine keeps missing, but only in random... Fri, 9 Sep 2011 23:01:16 EST Sleepless in the Boondocks? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4457841 So, I have missed the community and support of Sparks these last two days. Back to work and the computer wasn't working the last three nights. New temptations - the supervisors put chocolate out on the table for all of us. I did okay - in the past, I would have checked for any uneaten Snickers on any table. Today, in the course of eight hours, I ate one small packet of M&Ms and one mini-Reese's peanut butter cup. Woo hoo!

And, Dennis walked with me tonight and talked about go... Wed, 31 Aug 2011 07:05:24 EST HOT Days in Coolsville! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4447481 Well, the heat got me yesterday along with a general lack of sleep. Instead of eating dinner and using my workout video, I went to sleep. Figure I needed it, since I slept from 7:30 pm to 5:30 am. It's going to be another hot one, so I will be planning better for the evening - like having berries/yogurt for supper instead of trying to eat more in the heat!

Good side - I think I found exercise I can sustain. I loved walking yesterday morning! As soon as the local university poo... Thu, 25 Aug 2011 09:57:43 EST When life changes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4443811 Once upon a time, I had an organized, but crazy life. I got up early, worked out to my favorite Jane Fonda tape - which I have lost! Then, I took our two large dogs for at least a half hour walk, returned home, did the cool-down and stretches from the tape. Then, I showered and started waking the children.

Now, the children and dogs are gone. Children grew up, dogs grew old. I have remarried and my new job keeps me driving quite a bit each day. And, I have packed on the pounds... Tue, 23 Aug 2011 11:48:59 EST
