Mom is 87 years old and lives in a nursing home where she gets 24/7 care. She has vascular dementia which is dementia caused by small strokes in her brain. She also has Parkinson's. There are days that she is completely out of it and other days when she is quite normal. Today was one of her more normal days.
Today was also her physio day. I was sitting there watching her go through her routine when I thought "I could get a workout done at the same time". ... Tue, 24 Jun 2014 05:14:50 EST Life can be short so enjoy it while you can. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5723788 Haven't blogged in ages. Probably because my successes have been NSVs and my weight loss slow. I want to do it right this time and have one medical condition which makes working out a challenge.
I have had Fibromyalgia for decades along with IBS and then over the last 10 years I also developed CFS/ME with post exertional malaise. To make a long story short, if I do anything either physically or mentally that my body perceives as going past the line, I end up flat on my back in bed fee... Mon, 23 Jun 2014 01:30:21 EST 2013 and Me http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5183149 The year 2013 is less than 2 hours old and I have made my one and only New Year's resolution - TO NOT MAKE ANY NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS!
I will continue to make long term goals with short term steps. However, goal setting is an ongoing exercise. If one didn't have some type of goal then one would get lost or stagnate. I decided years ago that I was not going to use New Year's as an excuse to put off what I needed to do right away. I already am an expert at procrastination and work dail... Tue, 1 Jan 2013 04:23:46 EST ONCE AGAIN... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5169761 My physio has authorized an exercise program for me. I am to meet with one of his kinesiologists who will set up a workout program for me and then go through the program with me. The catch is that I am only allowed to exercise in a pool for the moment.
What is the big deal, you say? It means I HAVE TO PUT ON A BATHING SUIT! At 240 lbs, the last thing I want to do is wear a bathing suit. Actually, I hate the hassle of shaving my legs as well. Oh well look on the bright side, I c... Tue, 18 Dec 2012 04:41:41 EST If at first you don't succeed... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5155488 Ever wondered about the meaning of phrases. The ones we rattle off in our heads without really thinking about when they might not apply. I do but that is because I have issues in my life like being bipolar that have brought me to dark places. At one time, I wanted to succeed at leaving this world but I wasn't successful. Proper treatment, support and loving friends and family taught me to quit, to give up those thought patterns.
I am struggling with depression again and unable to e... Tue, 4 Dec 2012 02:30:55 EST Here I go again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5152256 Cleaned the cats' litter box out last night and somehow managed to screw up my already damaged lower back so I am flat on my back today.
I am still waiting to start my pool exercises. My physio and my insurance adjuster seem to have difficulty connecting with each other. I do have a few exercises that the physio gave me. Better than nothing. Slow and steady. Want to get it right as I really need a strong back and core in case I get rear ended again (that would be the 5th). I am ho... Sat, 1 Dec 2012 05:27:24 EST Relief at last! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5143056 Been a while since I last blogged. I was exercising and had to be careful because of back and neck problems owing to MVAs, the most recent one being Mar 7/12. I was working with a kinesthiologist but was not comfortable with her level of expertise as she was giving me exercises that were not good for my back.
After an increase in back pain, I dropped the weight machines and her help. I was just doing the recumbent bicycle, stretching and walking. My lower back pain increased until I... Thu, 22 Nov 2012 00:24:54 EST Not the best week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5106696 Won't go on moaning and groaning. Something is not right in the body of me and so I have been in bed the last 3 days. Tomorrow I get up no matter what! Need to get to my doctor this week to get a flu shot. Need to get out into the world and experience it! Sun, 21 Oct 2012 05:55:02 EST If at first you don't succeed http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5092168 Funny thing. I am unable to add a blog entry from my brand new ASUS laptop but I can do it from my iPod. Which ever works.
Thanksgiving weekend just ended up here in Canada. I was grateful for time with family and friends and the fact that I didn't overeat. I literally stepped away from the table and had some quiet time in the livingroom.
I didn't make it to the gym but I will tomorrow. All things in their time. I also helped out some friends in crisis and that is important. <... Got ya. lol Fri, 5 Oct 2012 02:33:33 EST Promotion of Nutritional Wonder Shakes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5075421 My neighbour invited me to his place for a presentation by a company that sells meal replacement shakes plus pills to boost energy and speed up your metabolism. They want people to join the company and sell product to their friends. It is a pyramid type scheme. Also, the representative was not very knowledgable about the nutritional info of the shakes.
The presentation was not a lost cause. It made me appreciate the access to information that I have on SparkPeople.com. I no longer ... I saw the chiro last week and will need to make another visit this week.
My food planning & exercising have been inconsistent. I get up and anything after is a plus. I have bipolar disorder and changing meds which takes weeks or months depending.
What I am not doing is giving up. Sun, 16 Sep 2012 13:40:06 EST Once again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5040810 So Sept is going to be a month of hell followed by who knows what. I met with my psychiatrist and told him that I was going off the lithium that he had put me on in Apr. The weight gain and exacerbation of my essential tremor made lithium another no-go drug. So the next few weeks will be interesting as I cold turkey off the lithium and switch to another mood stabilizer which I have used in the past.
So my goals this month are simple.

1) Take my meds
2) Drink 10 gl... Sun, 2 Sep 2012 06:30:26 EST Slow and steady http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4978801 Well I started exercising. My kinesiologist has my warming up on the recumbent bicycle for 15 minutes. The I do various weight machines for 45 mins. Stretching for 30 minutes finishes the routine.
At the moment, I see her twice a week owing to my evaluation score (It was not good). As I improve I will see her three times a week until I am ready to continue on my own.
I have decided to go to the gym every day to ride the recumbent bike for 30 minutes and then do my stretching for... Thu, 12 Jul 2012 09:11:55 EST Challenged http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4961531 So I have decided to join the Sugar free Challenge. The weather was sunny and hot today so we had icecream and sugary drinks. Needless to say, I will start the challenge tomorrow. Besides I am a firm believer of starting projects on Mondays as M-F are more structured days for me. Once I have gone through 5 days then the weekend will work out. Hopefully, I will find my brain in the process.
This past week I was the brainless wonder. I forgot a chiropractic appt and I forgot that I h... I had a smoothee with a protein booster plus a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich with a side salad. My meal of the day.
My appt with my psychiatrist got moved from the 17th to the 19th and I could really see him tomorrow. Made an appt with my GP for Mon which is the earliest I can get. Right now, my bipolar is unstable, my fibromyalgia has flared up and my IBS is up and running. I have problems getting to sleep because I ache. Once I get to sleep, I have problems getting up. I thought it was me, my Mom, my brother and my niece but it turns out Doug had invited my other brother and his wife. My nephew was there as well as Doug's ex and her partner. The person who wasn't there was me.
I didn't get to sleep until 5 am this morning because my fibrmyalgia has flared up and my body aches. I have to be EXHAUSTED to sleep. Take your pick.
I didn't get to sleep until 5 am. This fibro flare up is really cramping my already bad sleep style. I also was hypomanic the last two days. Mon, 9 Apr 2012 02:56:46 EST SLEEP & SPARKS http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4825226 Another famine/feast time. I went 48 hours with about 3 hours sleep. Then I slept and didn't want to get up. Who knows how long this stage will last? What I would like is 7-9 hours of continuous sleep at night each night. Am I asking too much? Maybe for a bipolar, I am but I hope not.
It is a challenge living with rapid cycling treatment resistant bipolar disorder which has gone on for 35 years. I use to sleep a lot. Now I have periods of almost mania. My bipolar II seems to be... I am supposed to either walk in a pool or on a cushioned indoor track. I am also going to stretch for 15 minutes twice a day three times a week. I will start with the stretching and walking on the indoor track.
Getting ready for the pool requires a bit more work. First I just HAVE TO get my legs waxed. Next, I need to try on my bathing suit and the find a light weight t-shirt to wear over it. I might even wear a pair o... Thu, 5 Apr 2012 08:22:52 EST
