That's fair enough, I'm lucky I have a lot of support from my family and friends who cheer me on as they tuck into their chocolate, cakes, biscuits.......

3 days in and its the weekend, my peak time to eat treats and I'm doing great. I had allowed myself a glass of wine last night and that had enough of a sug... Sat, 10 Sep 2016 09:29:03 EST Day 2: 21 Day Sugar Challenge - Pinpoint your problems http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6232692 Day 2 is all about finding out when and where your sugar cravings occur. Few of us will be craving sugar ALL day, most of us find our cravings only tend to become a problem at certain times of the day or when we are feeling a certain way. My task today is write up anytime I feel I need sugar: what time of day it is, what I'm feeling, where I am etc

Today I did great and only craved sugar late last night. I just wanted something sweet. I wrote in my journal and discovered that I... I don't feel like I have a problem with sugar but the quiz will tell me more....

.....And it turns out I have a problem with sugar, surprise surprise.

For me its situational ie I can manage okay in my own surroundings but in other situations I struggle. Wed, 7 Sep 2016 04:40:16 EST First day of spring http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5895749 Today is the first proper day of spring and is very welcome after a cold, dark winter. Its also a bit scary as its a sign of a summer to come 67 and a gentle reminder of how difficult the sunshine can be when you are big.

Everyone around you is looking like this 344 and you feel like this 15

I remember last summer so clearly, the anxiety at a hot day knowing I was going to have to find something to wear that wouldn't show my wobbl... Thu, 19 Mar 2015 08:37:24 EST Thank you http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5885335 Just a very quick 304 to everyone who gave me words of support on my depression post. Today I am feeling a lot more like my old self and your comments really did help 345 Its so much appreciated. Mon, 2 Mar 2015 08:03:55 EST Weight Watchers Update - 28 Feb 2015 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5884200 Weekly weigh in time. It was an up and down week so I was nervous but it went well:

Weight loss this week: - 1lb
Total loss to date: -9lbs
Current Weight: 12stone 8lbs (176lbs)

Total percentage weight loss to date: - 4.86%
BMI: 32.5 (obese)

I'm really happy with my 1lb. I'm very close to my 5% so my goal for this week is to reach that next Saturday.
Sat, 28 Feb 2015 10:58:07 EST Hello Darkness My Old Friend http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5883013 As posted in a blog way way back I suffer from depression. I've had it on and off since 2008, my lowest point was 2009, I spent most of that year in bed crying. 27
Finally I got help and thankfully everything is more or less okay. I have my bad days but they are just random one day events and sometimes last just a matter of hours and I am so grateful to see them go. 67

This week I've been hit with a major depressive episode, it started late Monday n... Thu, 26 Feb 2015 09:27:07 EST Oh dear, neglected blog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5879797 I can't believe I haven't updated this thing since back in November 2 Time is a funny old thing, it just runs away with you. Its now mid Feb and I'm just getting back to updating things.

So what's been happening? Not much, had a lovely Christmas, ate LOTS, 15 but joined Weight Watchers in January and I'm doing okay, 8lbs down so very happy with that.

I've been invited to a wedding 337 in early April where I will be seeing lots of p... Sat, 21 Feb 2015 09:06:53 EST Parkrun - the result http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5818139 Finally got my email today to tell me that I ran/walked my first 5k in 45 mins 53 secs.

Not a great time but a start and something official to work on. I know its going to be a while before I can do the route in less than 30 mins but that is my goal. At the moment though I am going to work on getting round in less than 45 mins.

I had a great morning anyway, it got me up and out and doing exercise when I would normally still be chilling in my nightwear so that alone i... Mon, 17 Nov 2014 07:17:48 EST My first Parkrun http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5817067 Super excited this morning. I am finally going on my first ever Parkrun. 224

Parkrun is a free, timed, 5k event that takes place in local parks all across the globe. I like the fact that its timed so you can track your progress as you get fitter and faster and the fact that its FREE ( my favourite word 30 ) I registered over a year ago but this is the first time I'm participating, today for the first time a Parkrun is taking place in my local area so I ... Sat, 15 Nov 2014 03:44:57 EST To enter or not to enter http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5806332 So earlier this year I ran my second half marathon. It was horrendous 39 I got through it but boy was it hard and after I remembered all the reasons why I said NEVER AGAIN after the first one.

So today I'm looking though my email and I see one from the Rock And Roll Marathon team. What's this I say, oh its a reminder to enter for next year, well that can be trashed. And then I notice the price, its half what I paid this year, a bargin at just 25 euros. I've run 5ks... Tue, 28 Oct 2014 12:37:49 EST BLC 25 GOALS http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5685490 My goals for this round of BLC are pretty much the same as always - lose weight!!!!

Beyond that I want to have a better diet, I don't see the point in being slim if my body is still unhealthy. As a runner I need to fuel my body so my second goal is to pay more attention to the nutrient breakdown of the tracker and make sure I stay in range for carbs, fat, protein etc.

Third goal is to maintain my current exercise routine of running, walking and strength training and bui... Fri, 2 May 2014 06:37:35 EST Day 9: Here's what I want http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5679946 Day 9 and I'm still working out what other people can do to help and support me on this amazing journey. Sometimes I don't even know what I want from other people myself so I have to try and work out how to communicate to my nearest and dearest what support they can give me. There is a very handy quiz in the book which helps focus on that and my results are below. Now I have to tell my loved ones so that they understand what they can do.

1) If you see me eating something that's... Fri, 25 Apr 2014 04:52:50 EST Day 8: Help me please http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5679159 Day 8 is all about identifying what other people can do - and not do - to help on the weight loss journey.

I am very lucky to have a lot of support, my family and most of my friends are great. I need people to ask me how I am doing, I need to be complimented on my success and if I am having a bad day and I don't want to exercise I need someone to bully me out the door.

What I don't need are people who try and pressure me into eating. I've noticed this a lot with some ... Thu, 24 Apr 2014 04:40:41 EST Day 7: I Can Do It!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5678387 Like most dieters I have a terrible habit of talking myself down and telling myself that I can't be one of those people who manages to lose weight and keep it off.

Its understandable in a way, after all how many of us are yo-yo dieters, losing and gaining the same 10lbs over and over again 39 It takes its toll on your confidence so its no wonder a little voice tells us we can't do it.

Well not this time 30

This time I know I can do ... Wed, 23 Apr 2014 05:34:08 EST Day 6: Protect your Program http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5677564 Day 6 is about making sure that you have your program protected so well that nothing will damage it.

One of the hardest things for dieters is being in a situation where you have little control over food ie in a restaurant or at a party and those situations where someone insists you eat something you really shouldn't.

Well I had both of those this weekend at my mother in laws for easter dinner, she knows I am trying to lose weight so she made a very healthy dinner but th... Tue, 22 Apr 2014 04:02:42 EST Day 5: Magic Notebook http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5675122 I just love it when a challenge asks me to do something I already do 104

Today is about keeping a notebook to write about how the weight loss journey is going, I've been doing this for about 2 years now. What started as a running journal has become my place to get all things weight loss and fitness out of my system. It really helps to just clear the head, clarify the thoughts and get things out of my system. Fri, 18 Apr 2014 13:40:00 EST DAY 4: Boundries, not diets http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5674090 Day 4 is about not being too rigid with your eating plan. Its okay to have boundries that you can work within, it gives you more chance of sticking to your goals once you get rid of the "all or nothing" approach.

My eating and exercise plan is to be sensible and not go on any fad diets, to exercise by running 3 times a week, walking 3 times a week and doing strength training 6 days a week. 1 rest day a week on a Wednesday that I will take no matter what as my muscles need the res... Thu, 17 Apr 2014 07:35:21 EST 100 days do over http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5673273 I had to take a break from the 100 days plan, I blame the post!! I had ordered the book online and thought it would get here before the kindle sample I had ran out but it only arrived yesterday.

Good timing in a way, the 100 days team have just started another round of this so I am on track with them, its a lot easier doing this as part of a group effort.

Day 4 tomorrow so business as usual then. Wed, 16 Apr 2014 04:42:10 EST Day 3: Do It Anyway http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5664108 437 "Committed means DO IT ANYWAY!!!" 437

Today I am a bit under the weather 527 and that normally means staying on the sofa but not today. I did my strength training even though I didn't really want to, I took it slow and steady, gave myself regular breaks but stuck it through to the end because I am committed to losing weight.

It was a great feeling to accomplish it, I felt strong, I felt in control, proud of myself and motivated.... Fri, 4 Apr 2014 08:57:17 EST Day 2: Interested or Committed? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5663327
8 Committed means NO MATTER WHAT!!!! 8

I will be 100% fully committed to the 100 Days, not just interested

437 I will stick to my plan by:

1. doing the daily lessons in the 100 Days book
2. logging my food intake daily and staying within my calorie range
3. getting support when I need it
4. sticking to my exercise plan, alternate days of running and walking, daily strength training and 1 rest d... Thu, 3 Apr 2014 09:41:43 EST DAY 1: I used to be that way...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5662458 8 I used to be that way, but now I am different 8

257 Things that have hurt my weight loss

1. Low moods - I would comfort myself with food
2. Bad planning - when I find myself hungry I would eat junk
3. Temptation - bad foods are in the house so I feel I have to eat them
4. Celebration - I used food as a reward or to reinforce positive feelings
5. All or nothing - If I had a bad day and ate something I shouldn't, ... Wed, 2 Apr 2014 09:24:31 EST 100 Days of Weight Loss http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5661688 I have heard so much about this book over the past few months so I am finally going to give it a go myself. My 100 days starts tomorrow when I finally get my hands on the book. Feeling motivated about it but nervous too. Temptation and loss of motivation is a huge issue for me, I start strong but end up falling off the wagon. But we'll give it a whirl and see how it goes. Tue, 1 Apr 2014 11:27:55 EST A letter to the Fat runner http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5639256 One of my Facebook friends posted this open letter to an overweight runner. As someone who knows how hard it is to go out and run when you don't have the body of a runner and when you feel every eye in the place is focused on you this made me smile.

Tue, 4 Mar 2014 07:50:32 EST S.M.A.R.T Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5597040 Part of this weekend's BLC challenge is to work out what my smart goals are for the next 12 weeks. SMART stands for specific, measurable, achieveable, realistic and time limited.

My mail smart goal is to lose 14 pounds by the end of this round of BLC but as well as that I want to be on a road to a fitter and healthier me. Big events are all consuming.

I'm feeling pretty good, my leg is at me, an injury I picked up during the summer is starting to flare up again but I am not so bad I can't exercise. I'm just being aware of my limitations and the point at which I'm pushing too hard ... Sat, 16 Nov 2013 08:18:09 EST The kindness of strangers http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5535498 This year one of my New Year goals was to enter and complete a half marathon which I did in August. It was an amazing experience but it was tough, mentally more so than physically. 366

Its funny, I was prepared for the sore legs, the tiredness, the blisters but I never expected the emotional rollercoaster that I went on over those three hours, the butterflies at the start line, 24 the joy of running in a large group 30 , the feeling of complet... Wed, 6 Nov 2013 08:14:40 EST PAWSE 30TH OCT http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5527167 Well its been an absolutely manic week - again! - and as a result I missed out on a lot of exercise I had planned to do.

Then I had one of those lightbulb moments

Life IS manic, its always going to throw things up at me that upstage my plans, what's important is how I react and deal with them. I might not be able to stick to my original plans but I can find ways to work with what I have.

And that is the big lesson I am taking forward with me this week. NO ... Wed, 30 Oct 2013 08:08:57 EST Week 4 Pawse http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5522994 Its been a pretty good week. I had a good weight loss so happy with that 30

I also discovered that working out at home doesn't have to be an easy option. One of the members of my BLC group told me about Lesley Sansones walking workouts that I could do from the comfort of my home, boy they get a good sweat going. Never again will I have the excuse of not being able to get outside for not exercising. 104

This week I plan to keep doing what I ... Last weekend I had a depressive episode, the first in a long time which knocked me for six. I really don't feel like taking care of myself when I am in that place, I seek out a lot of comfort food, exercise is the last thing I want to do so I didn't really do very much over the weekend. Yes, I am very annoyed but I am not going to beat myself up about it either, its over and I am loo... Mon, 16 Sep 2013 05:54:57 EST Blc Goal Setting: Weekend Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5478332 Part of our weekend challenge is to make a record of our goals for the BLC and write them down somewhere. What better place to do so than my blog!

So I had a think about it and my goals are as follows:

1. To stay involved with BLC and not become a floater

2. To be consistant with my exercise and run 3 times a week

3. To lose 14lbs ( or a stone as we call it over here 30 )

4. To adapt all of the above to my lifestyle so tha... Sat, 7 Sep 2013 05:53:48 EST First BLC week review http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5476367 The first week of BLC is over and we're now starting into Week 2. I didn't lose any weight at all this week which is okay cause I was expecting it. Hopefully next week will be better.

Its been a good week, I've spent my time getting used to the way BLC's work and focusing on remembering what I need to do and to post. I've never done a BLC before so its a big learning curve but I am seeing changes, its forcing me to be more active than I normally would.

Its very early ... Thu, 5 Sep 2013 03:41:55 EST First post injury 5k - I survived!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5473129 Happy days. My first 5k run since picking up an injury was on Saturday and I managed to complete it without any incident. I was feeling a bit nervous about not being able to manage and had a few fears of making the injury worse but all the exercises paid off and it went fine.

And on another positive note I have made the BLC23, yay!!!! Never done it before, a bit nervous but also very excited that it will help me moving forward. Mon, 2 Sep 2013 02:50:48 EST Please no, not an injury http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5453565 First run after the half marathon last night and I'm worried I might have picked up an injury. I've had the normal aches and pains which were gone by the weekend. Went out last night feeling good, started running, about 16 mins in my leg was feeling so heavy with a slight ache down one side which progressively got worse. I had to stop and once I did it was fine so I hope its nothing too serious. I'll try again tomorrow and hopefully it will be okay. Tue, 13 Aug 2013 05:40:35 EST I just completed a half marathon http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5446003 Well I did it, I completed my first ever half marathon. What an experience.

The longest I have ever run before is 10k so 21k was a huge mental, as well as physical, challenge. I was nervous all weekend but felt very calm yesterday morning as I set off.

I was doing okay up to about the 9 mile mark at which point I was really suffering, in a lot of pain, had a blister on my foot that was starting to really hurt and was at my lowest point mentally where I felt that I j... Tue, 6 Aug 2013 04:58:04 EST Rock and Roll Half Marathon, one week to go http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5436914 And the nerves are starting to kick in.

I'm doing the Rock and Roll half marathon on 5th Aug, my first ever half marathon and I am terrifed!!!

I get nervous doing races anyway but the fact its such a huge distance - to me at least - has my stomach in knots with a week to go. What will I be like the night before??!!

I'm not running it all, doing a combo of running and walking. Walkers are allowed and according to the nice guys in the organisers office I should... Mon, 29 Jul 2013 05:46:02 EST The Heat http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5428933 Oh my god I am officially all heated out. As much as I love the sun and enjoy being able to sit out in my garden I cannot take much more of it!!!

Here in Ireland we have had a heat wave the last two weeks, nothing but sun and heat and its great, everyone is happy, the kids are out enjoying the weather and all that but we are not made for this at all. Its the first nice summer we've had in 7 years so you can imagine what its done to us, its gone to our heads and we can't cope. <B... Mon, 22 Jul 2013 04:11:42 EST
