I mean the recipes that you see in both Forks Over Knives cookbooks as well as the two Rip Esselstyn books (Engine 2 Diet and My Beef With Meat) look really good. But my first experience with low fat vegan diets was that of" eat to live" by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. I even went to one of his life events in New Jersey a few years ago. I will say that his recipes just don't spea... Sun, 9 Jun 2013 16:06:00 EST Practicing the word “No”. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5375632 Do you ever feel like you're training yourself to understand the word "no" again.

Sometimes, I truly feel as if I'm having to train my mind every time the thoughts of not doing the exercise, writing down food, wanting a freaking beer – to immediately throw that thought out and say the word no.

I mean it's a very simple word – no. One syllable very easy to say. But as adults, I find that we have to truly relearn that word.

We know what's good for us but we occa... Sun, 2 Jun 2013 13:46:50 EST Where did all my time go? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5373659 So I wake up yesterday, and I realize that I am halfway through my two week off time for this month and I have accomplished what feels like basically nothing.

So, I decided that I will have to do what I did in medical school to cram for an exam because I refuse to feel like I did last time off where I felt like I accomplished last time.

1) Finishing the proof on my nonfiction hospital book
2) Writing the introduction on the nonfiction hospital book
3) Getting ... Fri, 31 May 2013 12:56:09 EST The first 28 days of my next 60 day challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5370564 As I posted yesterday, I have decided to breakdown my next 60 day challenge into the first 28 days and the second 28 days (lust like rehab - OK bad joke!). And yes I know that 28+28 equals 56 not 60 so maybe I'll have a 4 day challenge at the end.

My family and I decided on a couple of trips in the Fall of 2013 that we saw cheap on Travelzoo so that is what the Ireland and Italy refer to. Last year when my sister and I went to Iceland I had to do the seatbelt extender for the first... OK, this I am probably most proud of.
4) I finished all my movies.
5) I got really close on the books - they take way longer than 1.5-2 hrs. I think at the end I was about 1/2 way through 2 books that would have finished it up.

Specifics are below. We are sta... Mon, 27 May 2013 11:56:21 EST I finished the First Draft of my first book! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5331792 I know I haven’t been blogging much here lately – I have been at times busy and other times lazy.

My exercise is coming along fairly well and I should be yup to speed by the end of the 60 day challenge.

My weight is coming off slowly – I am working what feels like 24/7 right now and trying to be prepared and plan. I get off this Thursday and will have so much more control over food and sleep.

But the really exciting news is that I have finished the first draft... Sun, 24 Mar 2013 17:25:58 EST Celebrating what I did accomplished this time off http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5287446 Celebrating what I HAVE accomplished

I have a rather odd work schedule – technically it’s a fulltime job but it is separated into a 2 week period (336 hours) of working and a 2 week period (336 hours) of not working. When I am working run the operating room daily and hold the pager 24/7 for emergency and after hour cases. When I am not working, I usually go to my primary residence, exercise, cook and try to write my first book.

I have a huge problem with over estimating ... Fri, 15 Mar 2013 08:37:58 EST Week #2 weigh in http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5210199 I struggled this week. My weight loss this week was 0.4 lbs so I gained 4 lbs. My problem was mostly eating. I walked most days but ate things that were not as low fat and low sodium. I also didn’t document as I had been doing.

So to get back on the bike, This week I will:
Document everyday
Make 4 new recipes
Exercise at least 6 out of 7 days
Do 10 mins of yoga daily
Socialize on SparkPeople 4 days
Read the Spark Book Wed, 16 Jan 2013 14:36:04 EST Week #1 weigh in http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5199278 OK and the number is ......................... 4.4 lbs off.

Yeah, I know there is alot of water coming off this week and I’m OK with that - Frankly I don’t care what it is as long as it’s off my body.

I struggled quite a bit this week. I work 24-7 for 14 days in row - very easy to control my diet because no alcohol which for me leads to poor food choices. Needless to say when I get off, I want a beer or two.

I got off last Thursday and have imbibed a couple of... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 18:41:20 EST Exercise Plan Jan and Feb of 2013 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5199274 I will start with some Biggest Loser DVDs I have. I prefer to use these right now versus Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper individual programs because I am feeling so out of shape right now I need to see some larger people doing the exercise and the skinny minnies in the other DVDs. I will get more in shape and my endurance will improve dramatically so I will get there in due time.

Exercise plan - Cardio/weights

21 days in a row to get a habit going strong! <BR... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 18:39:16 EST Blog #1 This Year’s Eating Plan http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5195501 I have fallen off the diet wagon yet one more time. Now, I have gained a few more pounds and up to 272 at this time.

Luckily, I saw the movie Forks Over Knives and got inspired again. As a physician, I was very impressed with the research and data I saw.

At first, I thought I would just try a few recipes. I had been interested in vegan and raw vegan before and really a lot of the recipes I made then. The concept of low fat vegan made a lot of se... Mon, 7 Jan 2013 18:04:39 EST
