We arrived in Newport with plenty of time to pick up the race packet and explore the course. On the ride down, I realized I had forgotten my salted caramel gu, so I was super pleased to see them ha... Mon, 2 Jun 2014 13:55:36 EST Last day of work before my first Marathon! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5706060 Today is my last day of work before my marathon weekend and I can almost think of nothing else besides it! I'm excited to go home, get a little 3 mile run in and then start the packing process.

I have to travel about 5-6 hours to get to where the Marathon is in Oregon. Since my hubby and I are doing it kid free, we have to drop the kids off at my folks (Which actually adds another 1.5 hours to that 5-6 hours of driving) before we can head out. We don't have to be in Newport for ... Thu, 29 May 2014 12:55:42 EST Vacations and Entitlement http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5694867 I spent all of last weekend at Disneyland with my hubby and kids.

And I made a distinct decision to not stick to my eating plan. I made this decision knowing it would cause a gain on the scale and I would have to re-lose weight already lost. This was a conscious decision and I embraced it. In fact, I'm not even upset about the gain I did have because I made the decision, not in the heat of a menu choosing moment, but as I was struggling to find things that fit with the specific... Wed, 14 May 2014 11:39:53 EST My Fitbit has Died on my 20 plus mile day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5687592 Like many other users, I have finally accidentally washed my Fitbit.
And put it through the dryer.

It did not survive.

My hubby never uses his so likely tomorrow I'll find a way to switch it over to me and gather my friends along with it but I'm a bit bummed to have that delay. I am glad, however, that I don't have to buy a new one. After using it two years daily, it has become a staple but at the same time, more just an informational or entertainment tool than a m... Sun, 4 May 2014 23:06:39 EST Running & Fueling http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5681939 So I've been doing a low carb, higher fat diet plan for a couple weeks now and feeling good on it, losing weight on it. So good, that I decided to try my 'longer' run today without doing any carbs before it. I should have rethought this having started my period earlier in the day.

Needless to say, I realized fairly quickly that my body does require some carbs if I plan on running any length. I've done 2-3 miles just fine on no carbs, however, I just didn't have the motivation to... Sun, 27 Apr 2014 21:50:25 EST New plan & New Focus http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5679553 I have had a good loss on the scale the last couple weeks.

And I have really changed my diet. Is that the cause of the success?

Or is it because I simply have a new plan that is keeping me focused? That the newness of the routine is helping me not stray into the bad eating category of sweets, sugars and processed carbs?

Whatever the reason may be, placebo fastidiousness or otherwise, I'm going to stick with it.

I don't tout it as the end all be a... Thu, 24 Apr 2014 14:08:39 EST Where I am in the weight loss thing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5677334 I was cleaning up my Spark site today. I emptied out of teams that had died or rounds had finished. In doing so, I came across some old tracking threads for weights.

And it confirmed what I basically knew- that 2013 was a bust of a weight loss year for me.

I had some great success right at the beginning - continuing what I had done in 2012. But then I was up and down the same 4-5 pounds most of the year until Fall/Winter when it creeped back up rather quickly. So her... Mon, 21 Apr 2014 19:25:40 EST 18 miles and Smartphones http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5675272 I know it's not running PC in the purist running world (but then again neither are run/walk intervals so I like to walk the edge of the running community I guess), however I choose to run with my phone and headphones.

I like music playing while I run. Or on a super long run I enjoy a decent book on tape. When you're out running by yourself, the smartphone gives you that little bit of company you can't get when no one else will run with you.

Oh, to have a real running p... Fri, 18 Apr 2014 18:43:21 EST After run update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5670763 So yesterday was my longest run of 16 miles and today I feel . . .

Fine! Great! I'm not stiff, I'm not worn out. I can't believe it! I definitely am reaping some benefits of taking my slower pace yesterday. The IT bands are doing fine. Thanks to cold baths and foam rolling, I will be able to get on my bike for some exercise today!

Now, of course, that doesn't mean I won't feel it along this week, but I have never felt a lack of soreness after a long run before. Gi... Sat, 12 Apr 2014 22:04:35 EST New running spots and Sunshine http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5670043 Today was, still is, gorgeous.

And a perfect day for running outside. Sunny but not hot!

I had a friend volunteer to watch my kids so I could go run and as a result got some completely guilt free running in! Normally I feel a little guilty on a longer run if I leave the kids with my hubby. Some of this is from him. Most of it is me. But these longer runs exceed the naptime time frame I normally try to work within.

But I had a annual doc's appointment in a ... Fri, 11 Apr 2014 20:14:14 EST 16 miles and Loops http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5669040 Tomorrow is a 16 mile run - getting ready to out do the 14 mile run I did two weeks ago for my longest run.

The weather should be good- although I'd love it to be just a tad cooler- I'll still take the sunshine!

I have childcare through a friend for the hours it should take. The biggest decision now? The course.

Do I loop around her house and use her driveway as a water stop area (And house as a peestop area if needed) to mimic fueling stations on a race cou... Thu, 10 Apr 2014 12:13:43 EST Running & Weight Loss http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5667500 It seems like when I got more serious about running, my weight loss stalled out.

Some of this is just timing. I got interested in running, interested in races, after I had lost most of my weight. This means I was taking up more running at a time when my weight would be the hardest to lose.

Most of it is nutrition. I run and mentally think I can eat more...but don't need to.
Or is it because I'm burning more I need to consume more. There a few different theorie... Tue, 8 Apr 2014 15:33:28 EST First marathon and training!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5634369 So I have signed up for a marathon at the end of May - my first....and admittedly a good chance my only one. I really enjoy the half marathon distance and honestly can't see myself often having the time to put into training for a marathon, because it takes some time! I don't need quite that dedication to a half marathon.

I have been increasing my running, following a plan I have. But now the weekly running is really needing to kick up a level, so it affects the P90x3 schedule. ... Wed, 26 Feb 2014 12:29:24 EST The Day Before Weigh In http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5631500 It's Sunday, which means for BTS- Beyond the Scale- challengers, weigh in is tomorrow.

I weigh in every day, however. I like having tabs on my weight fluctuation because I let increases in weight help me buckle down better. And I'll admit, sometimes I let good drops in weight give me room for being less strict to my detriment. I'm not sure anything will really change this habit because I find it an effective tool. I can't eat wrong for a whole week and then find out on the scal... Sun, 23 Feb 2014 10:42:59 EST 4 weeks of P90x3! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5609150 Today marks my finishing up four weeks straight of P90x3!

I only missed one day due to a sprained finger (non P90x3 related, but a door jam!) and picked up right where I had missed. So I guess it's technically been four weeks and 1 day ;)

I have really enjoyed this Beachbody program. The first three weeks were the same series of DVD- a different one each day. Week 4 was a transition week - less cardio and some new DVD's. I have to admit, I didn't care for a couple of... Wed, 29 Jan 2014 12:07:02 EST Naptimes and Streaks http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5600334 My kids will go down for their afternoon nap in approximately 20 minutes.

I am extremely lucky that I have a 5 year old who still naps. Although he doesn't do it without a little arguing, he still sacks out hard for a couple hours. My 2.5 year old, who is up at the crack of dawn, does too.

And it's 2 hours of ME time. Usually this time is spent as my exercise time. But today it's going to be just pure me time. I'm planning on some crochet while watching a little tv ... Mon, 20 Jan 2014 16:30:23 EST Toddler shopping and Yoga http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5580899 I happened to start my P90x3 program on the first day of the year. Only by chance. The timing worked out well. And it's kind of a kick to check the days of the year off with my DVD's. Today I did P90x3 Yoga.

I do not like Yoga. I'd be shocked if I ever do.

However, it was a nice little break on my body after running the half on Sunday and the first two P90x3 workouts. All the stretching was wonderful and the self humility learned in half attempting some of those ... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 15:05:18 EST Day 1 of 2014 & Day 1 of P90X3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5577982 Happy New Year, Friends!

Despite trying to go to bed early, being awake all night due to fireworks and awoken early by my peanuts...and feeling totally exhausted, I stuck to my goal of starting P90X3 today.

I have had it since the 24th of December but due to my half marathon that wasn't the best trained for decided to put off until after it was done and I had recovered a bit. I can tell my hip joints are still a bit road weary from the race on Sunday but it handled the ... Wed, 1 Jan 2014 13:47:54 EST 3rd Half Marathon done- do I dare a Marathon? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5575734 Yesterday I completed my 3rd half marathon. Three this year...three this lifetime.
My first race ever was a Jingle Bell 5k in December 2012, so 2013 became the year I truly became a runner.

Prior to running this half marathon called Yukon Do It, I had decided I would train for a full marathon to be run before I turn 40 next October.

During running this latest half, I thought that was a crazy endeavor. I mean, sheesh, running takes a toll on your body even at just ... Mon, 30 Dec 2013 14:18:07 EST Breaks & Gains http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5569987 This is the first break between weight loss challenges I have entered without some specific goal to not gain, and hopefully to lose. And it's probably the reason I am up.

I have let a bad round throw my lifestyle off course! But, I'm pleased to say, not for very long. I debated waiting until the New Year to re-write my fitness and nutritional plans. But honestly, with my little gain, I'm at a place I do not want to be nor do I want to go over, so I must buckle down now.
<... Sun, 22 Dec 2013 17:22:04 EST BLC and Maintaining http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5566772 Today is the last night of Biggest Loser Challenge (BLC) 23.

I entered 24 with a maintenance status and sadly am ending with a little bit of a gain (as I am certain the scale won't surprise me tomorrow). Am I going to be within my 5 pound maintenance, probably. But I really had hoped to not only lose for the round but get to my ultimate goal.

There a few reasons this didn't happen. Turns out I like a little healthy push. My weight gain or loss didn't matter truly to... Tue, 17 Dec 2013 19:51:46 EST Comfort & 1 mile runs http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5562567 So it's the last week of BLC 23 and our team is focusing on stepping out of our comfort zones. This is sooo appropriate given the laziness that often sets in at the end of a round. This hasn't been a good round for me and I'll admit, my mind is already thinking about the next challenge versus trying to end this one better than I have been heading.

So pushing myself out my comfort zones this week is perfectly timed. And I give a super big hi-five to my fellow teammate, Sara, for ... Thu, 12 Dec 2013 01:09:46 EST Crossfit & Santa http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5560827 After weeks gone, I got to get up early and go to Crossfit today!!

I always go and forget how much I love it. Do I like getting up early? Absolutely not, but I feel like I am on top of the world after I leave. I have about ten free sessions left but have to spread them out about my hubby's work trips. I could try my kids in the little kids area but I'm hesitant to do so. I've done it once- they did great, but there were other kids there. The easiest time would be during my son'... Mon, 9 Dec 2013 21:23:09 EST 5k & Solitude http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5559278 A year ago I ran my first official 5k - the Jingle Bell run 5k.

If you are considering a first 5k, this is a fabulous one to do! All over the country, it's a mix of walkers, joggers and runners. It's festive and holiday themed. People are dressed up - and frankly - you're a bit left out if you don't have some red on! (I'm low key, I will wear a Santa hat, and that's it.)

While I had been running on the treadmill, I had a goal for pride purposes to finish in under 45 m... Sat, 7 Dec 2013 18:24:26 EST Streaks & Step-ups http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5555302 During Thanksgiving I almost lost my log in streak.

It's such an easy thing to lose. I have bookmarks to common pages I go to on Sparkpeople, so sometimes I'm not even on the start page at all. But the latest streak has been going on well. 196 days. Now I have been daily using Spark much longer than that, but obviously it keeps getting reset with mindless forgetfulness of the spark wheel.

I managed to log in on Thanksgiving about 10pm and get that spin to keep my hig... Mon, 2 Dec 2013 18:22:02 EST Twins and Sushi http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5550968 I had sushi today. A variety of roll options- ranging from local concoctions to a Masago covered California roll. And I even had couple with raw tuna and salmon on them...a rarity for me to go that far.
And overall, I had a good healthy lunch. But I did feel like I was sucking down my water to make up for the saltiness of the soy sauce. I swear my mouth was puckering due to sodium!! I'm uncertain how that will affect my weight on the scale to have such a blatantly high sodium meal ... Tue, 26 Nov 2013 19:43:37 EST T25 Beta & Naptime http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5550051 Today is my 5th week of doing Beachbody's T25 Focus DVD program.

This means it is now time to switch to the 'Beta' set of the DVD's for the last 5 weeks of the 10 week program.

I was initially really excited when I heard about a program coming out that is 25 minutes long. My biggest issues with DVD exercise programs is that many are 45-60 minutes and frankly, while I can do that at a gym, or on a treadmill watching tv, or outside running- I just go crazy doing it with ... Mon, 25 Nov 2013 15:49:55 EST Treadmills and Breakfast http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5549482 I shared with my team that I have finally learned that I can't skip breakfast.

I did lose a lot of weight skipping breakfast last year, however, I have found if I even try it now, a late morning snack becomes lunch very quickly and leads to some overeating and quick grab choices.

So while I have debated back and forth do I give up breakfast again, I learned my lesson today- nope, I will go by the old adage that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Maybe no... Sun, 24 Nov 2013 23:07:37 EST Muscles and Burger King http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5547745 My shoulders are worn out today.

Two days in a row of crazy burpees will do that.

But I knew it was no reason not to keep moving and this morning actually did my T25 before taking my son to preschool.

In my haste to get that DVD done, I didn't make the egg sandwich my son requested for his second breakfast. (Yes, he's part hobbit.) So in the car, he reminds me of this in the rather pleasant way most almost 5 years old do (insert total sarcasm) and I decided ... Fri, 22 Nov 2013 12:57:31 EST Burpees & Coffeecake http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5547013 So I have had two entirely different sets of friends yesterday really discuss a push for a burpee challenge. One is 30 burpees a day (done all at once or spread through the day) for 30 days from a couple of my close Spark friends. Another was a bit different - calling for different types of burpees (Some timed, some as many as you can, some in variety of style) for 30 days, and I had a friend from a pregnancy group that I am friends with on Facebook suggest this one. Since I realized I cou... Thu, 21 Nov 2013 14:13:09 EST What am I to do? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5546230 Last year I dropped weight really well.
And as this year started, it came off slower, but I hit my healthy BMI.

Yet still haven't hit goal.

Perhaps my goal isn't really achievable. But honestly, I keep going around that healthy BMI number, up and down the last six months of this year. Some of it is a mix of me not doing what I know I need to at points (for example, the couple weeks when the in-laws were in town sleeping in my exercise room). But some is just not ... Heh.

Day 3 of T25 is done and over! What is with all the dang jumping??????? I have to make sure I'm almost dehydrated before I do it! *Grin*

Exercise- do I do enough? BLC 23! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5494101 1.5 days left until the BLC officially starts up again!

Of course, after doing the BLC for about a year and a half now- it's a lifestyle for me. Nutrition and fitness don't end during the 'breaks'. I do use the breaks to try a few new things that make for some weight fluctuations and this time used the 4 weeks to stay at maintenance to keep the metabolism from constantly thinking it needs to par down to the typical low calories and high exercise. Mon, 23 Sep 2013 18:00:42 EST 2nd Half Marathon and impending IT band issues http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5486290 So during the course of my BLC challenges, I have been inspired to run and even more crazy, found myself enjoying it. I'll admit though, what I really enjoy are races! Runs are just to make the races more enjoyable! I think it's the fact it's a big group of runners that makes it fun.

Anyway, last Sunday I ran my 2nd half marathon. I finished in 2:11:50, a few minutes shy of the 2:15 one I ran in May. Wed, 21 Aug 2013 17:47:23 EST 4 Days in a row- and going for 5 tomorrow http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5456690 Alright- yes, another entry about Crossfit.

Do I sound like a crazy convert junkie yet? I think I may be.

Today was my 4th day in a row of doing Crossfit after my trial class last Friday. I still love it. I'm still sore, but the muscles change everyday. I now have experienced morning classes at two different times, an afternoon class and an early evening class.

I still LOVE the 5:30am classes best. Seriously. And I HATE getting up early to work out. But I... Thu, 15 Aug 2013 23:31:09 EST Cannot Keep the Coffee UP http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5454138 Not because of the caffeine, mind you.

Because I literally want to put my coffee mug down because it's too heavy.
That's after pushing these arms, shoulders and chest muscles to fatigue yesterday during my Crossfit #2 work out.

And this morning, I still went back for Crossfit work out #3. This one had a lot more legs focus- thankfully since yesterday ended my arms.

Today I saw a difference between a newbie like me and people who have been doing it a coup... Tue, 13 Aug 2013 15:18:30 EST Here's a cup of Kool-Aid . . . http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5453242 I'm starting to drink the Crossfit Kool-Aid and it's only been day #2.

The first work out was easy. Too easy. Not worth paying a month for. But the trainer was good - she was seeing where I stood and didn't want to push me.

Today she pushed harder.

I had the weekend to ruminate on what I wanted to get out of the Crossfit workouts - and I definitely knew I wanted more than what I got on Friday at the intro workout. Today my plan was to go in and let them do... Mon, 12 Aug 2013 19:46:56 EST My first crossfit day - and it was too easy? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5450043 I had my trial Crossfit class today.

They told me it was an intro, and it was a separate workout from the rest of the 'class'. We went over some equipment briefly, definitely focused on form and did a good warm up, workout and cool down. But it was really easy. I didn't really break a sweat and my cardio, while there, wasn't fully noticeable compared to normal cardio for me.

I'm hoping this is just cause it was they don't know me from Adam and totally want me to start... Fri, 9 Aug 2013 14:52:07 EST Shamless Plug http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5448817 You guys are all about health and fitness.

You are starting to eat healthier, get more movement in.
You are amazing at getting in fitness minutes and put in hours planning, choosing and eating the right foods.
You SPARK with reckless abandon.

But what about your teeth?

Oh, those poor, neglected little souls that chomp up every little nugget you so carefully plan to consume. Have you thought about how it would be should those be aching or missing? <B... Thu, 8 Aug 2013 12:39:46 EST Breakage from BLC http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5441202 Hah! You came expecting some full out Sparkpeople gossip, didn't you?
Some drama lamenting the challenge that has kept so many losing weight and accountable?

NOPE. I love the BLC. If you don't know what this is - the Biggest Loser Challenge started up 22 rounds ago and I was lucky enough to get caught up in it more recently.

I will start with a rant, however, let me say - I am having the most awful round of BLC I have ever had. I'm only down two pounds on the sca... Thu, 1 Aug 2013 14:47:10 EST Dropped Jaw of Wonderment http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5440483 My husband worked out with me today.
I did the indoor bike and he did the treadmill.
I had been on the bike for a bit when he came up to join me.

He went for 22 minutes - the length of one Parks and Recreation episode on Netflix.

Over a year of being super diligent on eating and exercise and the hubby finally joins me.

I'm beyond thrilled :D Thu, 1 Aug 2013 00:40:32 EST 10 things to improve http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5438887 I've had some great success over the last year. I can often eyeball calorie content at this point and be pretty close. I have no problem consuming high quantities of water and try some new healthier foods. I can run, I can lift. But I still can improve. And in a handful of ways. And while I can come up with a list of 100 things I can improve on in general- I decided to keep this one related to my weight loss and maintenance.

1) Strength training- I am improving at this but I s...
