I am excited to try out numerous smoothie recipes I have been bookmarking! I have worn out my MagicBullet from last summer, can't wait to see how the Vitamix will be. I'm thinking that we will be enjoying lots of yummy smoothies and healthy frozen treats this summer. Maybe even a few frosty adult drinks!

Sun, 17 Mar 2013 22:58:02 EST My birthday meal My birthday hasn't been that great. The weather has been crappy, my 4 yr old was puking and I haven't been feeling too hot myself. However I was happy that I made the effort to walk to the school twice, instead of driving. Also I made a delicious, healthy meal of stuffed pasta with a homemade tomato, spinach & chicken sauce. On the side we had roasted asparagus as well as fresh cucumbers and sugar peas. I did make a decadent cheesecake with berry sauce for dessert. But I'm happy to say I had ... Mon, 4 Mar 2013 23:56:47 EST Springlike Weather Walks I haven't been too active, either on spark people or in real life. But I am happy to say that I made some small positive steps. All this week I was able to walk my kids to & from school, twice a day, to equal 3 km each day. Also I have been able to go for a couple longer evening walks with my hubby. I have also been fairly consistent with doing some simple strength exercises - crunches, push-ups, squats and planks. Still needing to work on my motivation, but it will come back I'm sure. We hav... Fri, 1 Mar 2013 18:32:30 EST Possible Roadblock / Setback After my last blog, I experienced a possible roadblock / setback. The following day I had a dentist appointment to deal with some pain that I regularly experience. It had been years that I had been to the dentist (so I was very proud of myself for going this time). It has been years that I have had the same type of pain and I had always been told that it was just gum infection and I was just given antibiotics, and was told that that was all they could do. Because I hate over-using any kind of... Thu, 24 Jan 2013 08:53:08 EST I'm BACK!!! And I feel GREAT!!! I'm BACK! Or so I hope!! LOL

I have had about 2 months when I haven't been doing much for exercising. I blame it on getting sick. But it was more than that. I let getting sick and busy with the holidays and other excuses, stop me from finding the time and energy to get in exercise. For the last couple weeks I have been able to slowly start getting into a routine. I have been doing my daily pushups, squats & bicycle crunches faithfully. I have been getting back into walking my kids... Mon, 21 Jan 2013 23:53:41 EST Winter Workout - Snow Fort! I have been slowly getting back to exercising. I have been walking the kids back & forth to school on a regular basis again - making a point of bundling up! The other way I have been getting back into things is doing alot of snow shoveling! The last two weekends we have gotten a couple major dumpings of snow. I must be crazy, but I LOVE snow shoveling. It is a great full body workout that you can't make excuses to get out of doing it! It needs to be done and I get my exercising done too!
... Sat, 19 Jan 2013 22:21:08 EST January Goals It's time to get back on track. I have taken a bit of a break from regular exercise. First I took a break so that I could get better - I could only figure that I was pushing myself too much and not getting enough rest to get over the cold / flu that I had for close to two months. By then it was quite easy to be lazy and use any excuse that I could come up with. It was also getting into the busy holiday season.

I'm happy (and sad ??) to say that I almost reached my weight lose goal ... Fri, 4 Jan 2013 22:53:54 EST Back from my walk! Just got back from a 40 minute walk with my husband. Here is what the weather was like...

If the picture didn't work.... -24'C, with the wind chill -32'C.

But it wasn't bad once we got all bundled up properly.. just had our eyes pecking out! We both kept commenting that we shouldn't have stopped going for our walks. It becomes so easy to make excuses not to though.

I'm hopeful that ... Sun, 9 Dec 2012 23:51:35 EST October Goals I am finally feeling better... tomorrow will tell if I have finally gotten rid of this cold. I am eager to get back into things!

My goals for October are as follows:
- I will aim for 1800 exercise minutes this month. Ideally 60 minutes each day, but can catch up on weekends.
- I will walk my kids to school most days / most times of the day - both for my health & theirs.
- Realistically I need some rest days. BUT 1 rest day CANNOT lead to a rest week!!
- get back... Fri, 5 Oct 2012 23:55:18 EST September Recap September is over and so is our nice, warm fall weather (it seems). Today is a cold, blustery day. We are suppose to have a high of +3C but I think we hit that early this morning and the temperature has been dropping since. We are now sitting at +1C and the rain is turning into snow. Not nice at all.

I am happy to say that September wasn't a total bomb for me. I wasn't happy with the amount or types of exercise I was getting. But I am happy to say that even though I didn't hit my t... Thu, 4 Oct 2012 11:47:06 EST September Progress September is shaping up to be a good month. I still am behind in my fitness minutes and I'm not happy with the type of fitness I have been counting. But I know I have to be realistic in my expectations - any exercise is better than no exercise. And I can't just focus on my fitness right now. I need to be getting everyone back into their school routines. I have also had to run into work a few more times then normal, and will just need to work out a new plan into place when this will work out b... Mon, 17 Sep 2012 00:15:09 EST September Goals I haven't really decided on any September goals yet. I am still attempting to get in the 60 minutes of exercise each day. However I am not sure if this is still doable with the kids in school and the kids starting different activities. I am not just giving up though, and am still going to attempt it. I will still try to do my daily pushup & crunches, as well as plan to do my free weights 3x a week. I possibly will look into and change my strength training plan.

I still haven't gott... Sun, 9 Sep 2012 01:22:55 EST August Review I know I am a little bit late with my August review... but the beginning of September has just been so busy for me, time is hard to come by.

August was a great month for me. I did an awesome amount of biking riding, getting in shape to do the MS bike ride. I did complete the WHOLE MS bike ride.... no giving up and getting a ride home. WOO HOO!! I was riding as part of a team, so I don't how how / if that affected the amount of time it took us (as times I thought I could have gone f... Fri, 7 Sep 2012 10:35:57 EST My First 5k Run Well I did it! I ran in my first 5k Run. It was the first annual Twilight Run at a local... park isn't quite right to describe, it's a natural setting park that really promotes interacting with your natural world & protecting it. There are lots of educational things to see & learn - especially good for kids. It's a great place to visit.

We didn't start until 9pm. We all had to wear little headlamps. The run went along the trails there - most of them were crushed gravel. There were... Fri, 31 Aug 2012 10:06:21 EST Next Adventure - 5k Run Well I'm on to my next big adventure. I picked up my race packet last night. We are running in a 5k night run tomorrow night. And no I am NOT prepared for this one!!

I have spent all month focusing on my biking. I have only run twice this month (once at the beginning, and again last night!!). If I was really serious about this race, I think I would be quite upset with myself for not being more prepared. But we planned to do this race for fun. It was the motivation to try running. A... Wed, 29 Aug 2012 08:54:45 EST My MS Bike Ride Experience WOW, what a rush. About 8 hours of biking between two days, 170 km total. It was a great ride. I do need to say that wind SUCKS!! And yes my butt is SORE!! But it was definitely worth it!!

Of course this could be the caffeine & sugar rush from our post-ride drinks speaking.... check back with me in a couple hours ;) ....

This is how I summed up my weekend activities for Facebook & Spark status. I had a hard time coming up with something that summed it all up and would fi... Sun, 26 Aug 2012 19:52:39 EST The Night Before Well it's the night before the MS Biking to the Viking. I think I am all packed and ready. Well put it this way... I'm as ready as I'll ever be!!!

I am pretty confident that I will be able to complete day one. Day two might be a bit more of a challenge (especially for my TUSH!!). But with a good night sleep, I shouldn't be too tired.

I am a bit more worried about the amount of bikers. I am #631!! WOW!! And I know there's more... usually at least 700ish. I don't do well i... Fri, 24 Aug 2012 23:54:20 EST Hike @ McGillivary Falls This past Sunday we decided to take an afternoon road trip to a local provincial park and go for a hike with the family. The driving took longer than the hike, but we went the scenic route so the driving was just as beautiful & fun as the hike. It was such a nice day. Here are a couple pictures from our hike.

<img src="http:/... Tue, 21 Aug 2012 13:29:10 EST MS Bike Ride - Biking to the Viking I have signed up to participate in the MS Bike Ride - Biking to the Viking (Stonewall to Gimli & back). This is a 160 km bike ride over two days. I signed up with only a month before the event so I am scrambling a bit to make sure I get in enough long distance / endurance training. Last weekend I got in a 52km ride, followed by a 30km ride the next day. Today I did a 65.5km. I plan to do a shorter, but with more resistance, ride tomorrow. (This will be in a nearby provincial park, pulling my ... Tue, 7 Aug 2012 23:27:12 EST July Exercise Challenge Finish Sorry that I haven't been updating you on my exercise challenge. I have been busy the last 2 weeks with out of town family. My husband's brother & family were in for a visit. We haven't seen them in about 1 1/2 years so everyone was super excited! I am happy to note that even though we were super busy visiting, I was able to get in some great exercise time and finished my July exercise challenge coming in over my 1800 minutes that I was aiming for.

I was even able to get in a coupl... Mon, 6 Aug 2012 23:38:16 EST A Great Day & Big News! I had a great day yesterday (and today as well!). After reading all the comments from my latest blogs, some time thinking things over and talking about them my with best friend (my hubby), I was feeling much better. I'm BACK! And better then ever!!

I would like to thank everyone who read my last blogs & responded. All of your comments helped me. You guys didn't tell me anything I didn't know already. However, I needed the reminder... Thanks!!

I just happened to hit Value... Fri, 27 Jul 2012 01:19:58 EST Response to my Mother's Ramble I would like to apologize for my ramble the other day. At the same time I am glad that I was able to vent a bit and started working things out myself (getting my head back on straight).

I just wanted to clarify some of my statements from my ramble. My husband is great... he has always supported me in doing things outside of the house / kids. He is always offering to watch the kids while I do things. I AM the ONE stopping myself from doing this. I AM the ONE that feels guilty havin... Wed, 25 Jul 2012 15:19:32 EST A Mom's Ramble - Feeling Blue/Pity Party I'm feeling a little blue. Actually I would term it that I'm having a pity party. I'm not entirely sure why... I can guess at a few things though.

I'm tired of hearing about everyone's fabulous holidays & activities, either past or upcoming. It's not just a case of wanting what others have or do, but the frustration of having your "wow" news being preempted by the news of their next trip or activity. I know & understand that others are in different financial situations then we are.... Tue, 24 Jul 2012 11:51:00 EST My New Bike Yesterday I tried to do a 60 km bike ride - kinda as a trial run to see if I could handle doing the 170km MS bike ride my hubby is doing (and trying to convince me to do).

A bit of history here - I have never ridden a bike much. In the last 10 years, I have ridden some - usually with kids, so not going too fast and having to help them as they are learning. I don't have a lot of experience. This year I have been able to take a few longer bike rides with my hubby. We have done a bun... Fri, 20 Jul 2012 10:40:12 EST Original Weight I came across this picture on Facebook today... and had a good laugh! Enjoy!!

It's a good reminder to make sure our goal weights are "realistic"! Thu, 19 Jul 2012 23:21:40 EST Exercise Streak After my last blog, I had thought to do a blog about keeping an exercise streak alive and how that has benefit me. Well... I ran into a bit of a problem. The next day I broke that streak. Looking back, I had done some kind of exercise every day since the beginning of May (except for this past Monday!). I have had an exercise challenge going to do 30 Days / 30 Hours of exercise each month starting with May. I have been able to keep it up. To be honest though I haven't always got 60 minutes in ... Thu, 19 Jul 2012 00:42:37 EST Quick Update - Feeling Great, Off to a Good Start I haven't been around here too much lately. It's just been crazy busy - with the beginning of summer holidays and trips. And the heat! I know we don't get it the same as other places, but when we do, it's just such a shock to our bodies!! I have been checking in (gotta log in and spin that wheel whenever I can! LOL). But I was finding I was spending too much of my "free" time in reading about exercising, rather than doing it. So I have been making an effort to curb my internet time and find m... Sun, 15 Jul 2012 23:08:41 EST Happy Canada Day Weekend! I really, really shouldn't be blogging right now, but I wanted to send out a quick Happy Canada Day weekend to everyone (fellow Canadians!)!! 636

We are heading out to my parents place for the weekend. It will be one of few when most of my family will be getting together this year. We will be celebrating my dad's 70th birthday. The plan is to get him & my mom off the farm for one afternoon & run up to the lake. Nothing fancy just hanging out at the beach & having a wiene... Fri, 29 Jun 2012 18:58:33 EST Camping Weekend Recap Well, I'm back home. Got home last night with just enough time to unpack & get the kids cleaned up and to bed. Oh and we took the time to go for a walk / jog. We are getting into quite a rhyme, we are down to 45 minutes for 5 km. And feeling great afterward!

The weekend camping trip was a hit. We got a bunch of shopping done, and took the kids to the waterpark on Sunday. Boy was that a hit!! And boy did I get my exercise in that day!! We easily spent 5 hours there - spread out into... Tue, 26 Jun 2012 13:03:42 EST Shopping Shopping... I have a love / hate relationship with shopping. I love going into the stores to see all the different clothes. But I hate trying to find anything that I like and fits me. Yesterday wasn't much different. After a couple of stores I got pretty discouraged about finding things I liked & fit me. Happily I did manage to get a couple summer shirts - both for casual & for working out.

I also usually get pretty discouraged seeing myself whenever I am trying on clothes at the s... Sun, 24 Jun 2012 11:10:09 EST Camping Weekend Update We are camping this weekend down in North Dakota. We are combining camping and doing some across the border shopping with the kids. This is suppose to be a end of school year treat. Of yeah, we are planning on hitting a waterpark too. The kids have been super excited about it all.

Going camping / going away for the weekend while trying to keep my spark going has worried me. I never drink my water when away from home. Also I know overeating or
just not eating healthy will be ha... Sat, 23 Jun 2012 10:36:55 EST My Weekend I am proud to say that I didn't overeat this weekend. I also have been able to stay up-to-date with my fitness minutes. Weekends are usually hard for me. The family is all home, we usually have some events going on, or we are just being lazy around the house. Either way it's not easy for me to always get in my exercise. And I tend to overeat or just have too many treats.

This weekend was a bit hectic with my son going to a birthday party with tons, and tons of food. We all ended up... Sun, 17 Jun 2012 23:46:43 EST Busy Days & Company I am very proud of myself. Yesterday I had a very busy day with doing laundry (not just the usual, stripping beds & bath towels & jackets) & cleaning house. Plus of course the regular stuff of with the kids. On top of it, my youngest had me up a couple hours during the night... and I was DEAD tired.

Even though I didn't need to get in any exercise (for my monthly fitness challenge) as I did double the day before; I still went for a quick walk last night. Oh yeah - on top of everyth... Tue, 12 Jun 2012 09:40:25 EST What lies within you? "What lies behind you and what lies ahead of you, pales in comparison to what lies within you." Ralph Waldo Emerson

I came across this quote on Facebook not too long ago. I have yet to figure out what lies within me... But I am pretty sure it's quite strong, dependable and adaptable. I have been through some tough times, and I'm sure I will have some tough times ahead of me. But I'm learning that I can handle whatever life will throw at me, maybe not gracefully but I will survive. ... Mon, 11 Jun 2012 01:10:53 EST Keep breathing. That's the key. Breathe. I went for my "usual" evening walk with my hubby tonight, a new 7.2km route that was quite nice. It took us 75 minutes.I feel so much better today, so much more focused again.

We started watching the Lord of the Rings movies last night. Tonight we are continuing with the second one - The Two Towers. There was a scene that caught our attention and my hubby commented that it was just like my blog about jogging. This is what I keep saying to myself when I go out for a jog. So I just h... Sun, 10 Jun 2012 00:30:19 EST I like my evening exercise Tonight I see why I like evening exercise so much.

I have not been having a good day - health-wise. I woke up feeling so tired and sluggish. After indulging in a bit of laziness (doing some reading for enjoyment), I did push myself to get up and hit the exercise bike. I felt like I was out of sync, I just couldn't get my rhythm. I did get in my 45 minutes and didn't do that bad for distance. Surprise, surprise - I must be getting stronger.

The rest of the day went okay -... Sat, 9 Jun 2012 00:26:04 EST Jogged 4km! I can't believe that I jogged 4 km tonight in 25 minutes, WITHOUT stopping! I had no trouble doing it, I actually kept adding to what I had planned to do. I planned to do only about 3km. I'm starting to believe that I could do a 5k run. I mean, I knew I could do one, but if I'm going to - I want to ROCK at it!

I can't believe all of the 244 moments I have been having this past week (pounds lost, inches gone, and now this). I really needed the added motivation because I w... Wed, 6 Jun 2012 01:08:01 EST Good News!! Inches Lost! I was brave enough to get out the measuring tape tonight... And I was VERY pleasantly surprised to find out the I have lost inches in all places (bust 3/4", waist 1", hips 1/2")!!

244

If you could see me, you would see me doing my little happy dance!! 224

I was also happy to note a couple pounds lost since the beginning of May!

244

Maybe this not worrying about the scale is working!?!?! Tue, 5 Jun 2012 01:10:13 EST Overall - a good day I'm still amazed on how the simplest, littlest things can upset you 28 and change your mood, your motivation. I was ready to head for the junk food this evening... BUT I resisted and went for a walk 311 instead. I did have a little junk food - but kept it in moderation. All in all, it was a good day. 41 Sun, 3 Jun 2012 01:11:59 EST June Fitness Challenge I am continuing the 30 Day/ 30 Hour fitness challenge. I have starting thinking about it as just 1800 minutes - this seems to be much easier to track. The goal still is to get in 60 minutes each day. But I can carry over or make up some of the time though. Even though I did make the challenge last month - I still had to work at always finding the time. Also I think the 60 minutes a day is doable, any more is just not realistic with all of the other things going on with the family. I want the ... Fri, 1 Jun 2012 19:06:21 EST May Fitness Challenge - GOAL MET!! When I started this 30 Day / 30 Hour fitness challenge, I really didn't know if I could make it. I mean - it's 1 hour each day, ALL MONTH LONG!! That's 1800 minutes!! Who has that kind of time to spend just on exercise??

Well I found out that I do!! 198 30

I MET my goal of 1800 minutes (I actually surpassed it!!)!!!! 224 244

There have been some days that I had a HARD time motivating myself to get going. But it was ... Fri, 1 Jun 2012 00:17:07 EST What's Right?!? Instead of asking "what's wrong?", why don't we ask "what's right?"???

I never would have thought about this. But it's true. We are all too quick to ask someone what's wrong and to list off the negative things that have happened, then were are to ask what's right and count all of the positive things that have happened.

This was something that I read about in a book about parenting but I think that it is something that could be applied to everyone in all aspects of life. ... Tue, 29 May 2012 23:30:29 EST Walking in the Rain I love to walk in the rain. I was lucky to marry a man as crazy as I am, who also loves to walk in the rain. Tonight, even though it was steadily raining and was supposed to all evening, we still headed out for an hour walk. We didn't see anyone else out tonight - everyone seemed to be hiding away in their houses, staying dry. But we enjoyed our walk. Instead of our normal route, we decide to explore a bit and headed in a different direction. We talked, checked out some houses that we had loo... Mon, 28 May 2012 23:37:27 EST May Fitness Challenge (30D/30H) Update I just thought I would take a minute to update you on my progress on the May Fitness Challenge that I accepted. I committed to trying to get in 30 hours of exercise in 30 days of May. I was a bit leery of this - it sounded like alot! But as it was a challenge (from my sis-in-law) - I was willing to give it a try.

I have been pleasantly surprised to find out that even though it has taken some planning and creative thinking (and willpower and motivation of course) - I have been able... Mon, 28 May 2012 00:26:51 EST Andrew Dunn Walk/Run (for awareness & prevention of depression & suicide) Last Saturday, my family & I participated in the Andrew Dunn 5K Walk/Run. It was a beautiful day for it - warm & sunny. We were so glad that we finally bit the bullet and joined it. My two younger kids were able to bike the route while my husband & I jog to keep up with them. My oldest son walked it (because that was all we were supposed to do! what can I say, he's a teenager), and plans next year to run it. I too would like to run it next year. I have never done anything like it before and w... Sat, 19 May 2012 14:43:05 EST My Morning Exercise Experience I just have to tell you about my morning exercise...

This morning I woke up at 6am and by 6:30am, I knew I wasn't going back to sleep so I should get up and exercise. I was looking forward to going for a jog - it was beautiful outside. So I got all ready - putting on some new exercise capris and top. I lace up my shoes and turn my MP3 player on. I head out the door. Now I know this isn't right but... I don't usually start with a walk, I just get right into a SLOW jog. By the time... Fri, 18 May 2012 09:35:55 EST Found my Secret to Jogging Yeah! I did another jog/run tonight. This is about the 3rd time that I have been able to go out for my jog without having to stop a few minutes into it because I couldn't catch my breath. I was able to go the WHOLE way (tonight about 3.2 km) without stopping!! 198 WOO HOO!! I have figured out a magic secret (actually I was told this by a genius 30 !). The trick to this is to make sure to inhale enough!! LOL It's so easy to start panting (exhaling) when you start exercisi... Wed, 9 May 2012 00:15:08 EST 30 Day / 30 Hour Exercise Challenge Well I have another challenge going on with my sis-i-l. It is a challenge to ourselves to get in 30 hours of exercise in 30 days. The exercise can be anything of our choosing; it just needs to be of at least moderate effort (blood pumping). It can be done in anything from 10 minute intervals throughout the day or even getting in 2 hours of banked (or catch up) on the weekends.

I love these challenges!! They really help keep me motivated to get moving. Mon, 7 May 2012 12:46:49 EST HEALTHY CHALLENGE It's been almost a year since I have done much on Spark.... I have been working at being healthy though. I am proud to say that since August / September, I have been regularly exercising and eating moderately.

For awhile I didn't see any progress, so normally that it when I back off or stop altogether. However, I have a "Healthy Challenge" going on with my sister-in-law. It doesn't really mean anything... we live thousands of miles apart so no chance of getting together for exerci... Thu, 20 Jan 2011 18:43:10 EST What a Wonderful Day Wasn't it just a wonderful day here in Manitoba? The sun was shining, almost all the snow is gone, and it isn't too wet. I took my 2-year old daughter for a walk tonight with my DH. It was great. We didn't go far (or fast, about a 30min mile pace). But we were out enjoying the beautiful March weather and each others' company. This could get to be a daily (or at least a couple times a week) occurrence. We may even bring along the two boys next time!

This also means that my daughter ... Tue, 16 Mar 2010 00:19:55 EST
