It's also 3 weeks of consistent exercise. I have lost 9+ lbs and am feeling very proud!!

I am thankful that the scale is rewarding me. I can't imagine making this much change and not seeing some result somewhere. I'm going to keep on what I'm doing: tracking my food and trying to keep it within calorie range (I'll work later on tweaking some balance of nutrients, which I think will slow my weight loss later). And exercise!!... Mon, 21 Sep 2015 07:36:13 EST day 8: ups and downs this weekend http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5987659 The good news: I got a lot of good activity in yesterday. The bad news: I also was eating / grazing all day. It was an all day party. In general I don't think I did as badly as if I wasn't tracking, but I had a lot of red wine. Had FUN, but a lot of empty calories. Today, no activity, and I could have between the rain. I'm a bit sore from my first workout with the trainer but all the more reason to keep moving. Oh well, tomorrow's a new day. I think if I can be really strict during the we... Sun, 30 Aug 2015 21:32:46 EST Day 6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5986367 OK, still tracking my food. Went to the doctor yesterday and he told me I could stop one of the medications, which is good, because it was 4x a day and very hard to schedule around eating and the other medication. My big concern now is not back sliding into old habits, as I'm feeling back to normal, and the acid reflux event fades further into history.

I am meeting the personal trainer tomorrow at 7:50 a.m. at her studio for a 30 minute trial session. I'm excited, and hope this wi... Fri, 28 Aug 2015 13:10:21 EST Day 4 - new (old) habits http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5985034 Met with a personal trainer this morning. Will have a trial session with her on Saturday morning. Looking forward to moving and feeling better and having more energy. The cooler temps always motivate me to more activity. The hot humid summer makes me want to hole up in a/c. Planning a camping trip first weekend in October. Kids are starting school on Thursday. Here's to fall! Wed, 26 Aug 2015 09:28:34 EST Best motivation for getting healthy is sometimes getting sick. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5983470 So, I've been diagnosed with GERD, and boy those ads on TV don't do justice to what heartburn really is. I really think my weight and inactivity are to blame, more than other factors like stress or diet. But it is a big wake up call. I'm taking a PPI 2 times a day, and a liquid coating agent 4 times a day. Managed to get it all in today despite the strict guidelines on the liquid on when you can take it relative to other meds or food. I think I'm going to hire a personal trainer again as we... Sun, 23 Aug 2015 22:31:20 EST freezing rain.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5844839 Well, I'm still here a few days into it. Better than last year. I started the January fitness challenge. Did day 1 video yesterday. But I feel like my day is slipping away from me today. I used yo prioritize exercise before everything else. Now I feel more compelled to tackle the organizing project to clean out the playroom than to walk for 30 minutes on the treadmill. But that's OK. I think what I need to remember is to keep going every day. These challenges are very motivating, but can als... Sat, 3 Jan 2015 14:39:30 EST My Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5840472 Well, I'm back again. This past year has been sneaky. My job really ate me up. I didn't fully realize that until I took the last week + two days off. Those 11days off really made a huge difference. So, I am vowing to keep that spirit alive even as I return to stress and uncertainty in my work life. I must carve out time for healthy habits. The uphill climb to healthy living just keeps getting steeper and steeper, but I know I can do it. For now, here are my goals to get me started: 1. 45 mi... Mon, 29 Dec 2014 10:15:16 EST Sore muscles... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5657879 Well several false starts, and finally on Tuesday I did a full but not too ambitious strength workout. As expected I've been sore in the legs from the squats/lunges. That's what I get for not doing a damn thing for almost a year. But it's a good sore, and I am motivated to do it again.

The snow on the ground and the very cold temps are making it hard to move more. The treadmill is not appealing either. So, for now I am focused on reestablishing good eating patterns, tracking, and ... Thu, 27 Mar 2014 14:03:50 EST Return again... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5580885 There's a song in my church's hymnal that invites us to try again. It is a song of forgiveness and hope:

Return again, return again. Return to the home of your soul.
Return to who you are.
Return to what you are.
Return to where you are.
Born and reborn again.

It's sung as a round, quite lovely, really.

I keep returning to SparkPeople. It's familiar but new (nice updates!). It works and I love the community here. I like that SparkPeople is... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 14:53:27 EST P90X - Bring it! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5256143 I started P90X this week. I bought the 12 DVD package Used-Like New from the Amazon Marketplace for less than $100. I researched this a lot before finally biting the bullet and buying it. I am familiar with a lot of the exercises because the personal trainer I had for almost 2 years borrowed HEAVILY from it. I decided I wanted to get the DVDs to at least supplement my workouts and cardio, for some variety. I love the Kenpo (kickboxing) workout.

But when the box came, and I read thr... Tue, 19 Feb 2013 11:57:17 EST Baby it's cold outside! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5221401 I have been stuck inside this week, I ran 2x on the treadmill. OMG is that boring. I even tried watching netflix on the second run, but the reality is, the monotony is too much when the scenery isn't going by.

I did 25 minutes of Just Dance 4 with my daughter last night. I think I'll work that in more often, it was fun, she likes it too, and I really want her to move more.

Been avoiding wheat for about a week now. It's going ok. I missed 2 times (both times on cupcakes... Thu, 24 Jan 2013 10:07:08 EST Eliminate bread? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5209729 I read an article today on Yahoo about foods to avoid (non-organic strawberries, swordfish, etc.) and it suggested, as I've seen lots of articles recently suggesting, that you eliminate bread due to multiple health issues linked (celiac, asthma, belly fat, IBS, inability to take a photogenic profile pic).

Other things in the article I didn't agree with (sprouts are bad because they are linked to food poisoning, and the solution was to substitute shredded carrots or cabbage...why n... Wed, 16 Jan 2013 09:43:56 EST Quinoa is so awesome! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5200405 Lunch is a hodge-podge bowl. I warmed a cup of plain quinoa, threw in a cup of leftover vinegar cole slaw from the new years, and 2 oz of Wisconsin cheese curds (brought by a friend that we dog-sat for over the holidays).

It's nothing I would ever serve to guests, but I am enjoying it thoroughly.

Happy Thursday! Thu, 10 Jan 2013 11:40:03 EST Still chugging... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5195392 Well, I've barely kept going with my exercise, and have been off the wagon about food over the holidays. I was sick after Christmas and down for 5 days (where I didn't eat much, but I didn't exercise either). But I've been at least not quitting, just going very very slowly (only 3 runs in December and maybe 3 strength workouts).

I've decided to refocus on water, food tracking, and ramp up that exercise. It can only get warmer and lighter from here, and spring will be here before l... Mon, 7 Jan 2013 16:35:58 EST 12 days to Race Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5043907 The race has been a great motivator to keep me moving even when I don't feel like it. I think I will continue to use races or events like 5Ks or the hiking spree or more baby triathlons to keep me moving. The accomplishment feels good.

Update on my training and ear: I still have a hole in my ear. I can do a neat party trick that only I can appreciate. I yawn and inhale at the same time and feel a breeze in my ear canal. Weird.

I had a sinus infection for about a week af... Tue, 4 Sep 2012 12:01:43 EST Roadblocks and recovery http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5019300 I haven't been tracking my food for about a month, but have maintained my prior losses, and stayed the same weight throughout the month. In fact I lost a couple pounds this past week, probably more due to illness than any concerted effort on my part.

A week ago Thursday, I punctured my eardrum jumping off a high dive in a lake. I subsequently got a raging case of sinusitis. I haven't been sick for months, so this was hard for me. I still met with my trainer and did strength and ba... Fri, 17 Aug 2012 10:48:16 EST 2 weeks later... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4927849 So I'm about 2 1/2 weeks into my reboot. My motivation is very strong this time. Not sure why. Maybe other things in my life just settled out so I can focus on this. But hey, I'm going with it!!

Successes:
248 Tracking every day, no misses!
248 Habit formed! Drinking at least 8 glasses of water regularly was much easier this time than any time before. I'm drinking 8 glasses and then reaching for more. This used to be such a hard thing for me.
... Fri, 15 Jun 2012 13:55:34 EST Color Run 5K http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4921900 My family and I are going to be doing the Color Run 5K this Saturday. http://thecolorrun.com/

I don't think I'll run very much of it, but there was a time when I'd be scared to even try to walk 3.1 miles for fear I wouldn't be able to finish it without stopping or being in excruciating pain.

I'm looking forward to it! I'll post pics next week!

Have a great one! Mon, 11 Jun 2012 15:32:08 EST Off to a good (re)start http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4916115 I've been tracking what I eat for 9 days and drinking more water daily than I have in years. Though I don't hit 8 glasses every day, I'm getting closer. Frankly it shouldn't be that hard to do, I just forget later in the day.

(Pause to gulp some water down.)

It seems to be working. I've lost 6.5 lbs. in 9 days. Love that early water weight loss you get when you start back! LOL It's a nice boost. So for the first time in a really long time (like in SparkPeople history) I... Thu, 7 Jun 2012 10:51:38 EST Creeping closer to 40 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4659212 When I started on SparkPeople, I was not exercising, feeling gross, and way older than my years.

I am happy to say I've kept up with the exercise. Though I weigh what i did when I started (never lost much weight but wasn't trying), I am a size smaller due to being more fit. I owe it to having a personal trainer that comes to my house 2 - 3 times a week at 6:30 a.m.

I'm really trying to get my OWN motivation to be more active.

I've started tracking what I ea... Thu, 5 Jan 2012 10:32:04 EST Back on track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4057069 So, I've been off SparkPeople for a while, but not off the wagon really. But I've got a new burst of motivation, and am running with it. LITERALLY!

This new motivation started when a friend posted on Facebook about doing a super sprint in August at the Cleveland Triathalon. I wouldn't have payed it any mind, but she posted the lengths for the super sprint: 300m swim, 8 mi bike, 1.5 mi run; and none of that sounded too scary. So I thought, what if I started to train for that (it may... Tue, 1 Mar 2011 10:44:50 EST Not doing well on my October goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3733040 So, I feel like I'm doing well this month, but I have not been meeting my goals.
About the only thing I've managed to do totally is avoid Halloween candy. But it's not Halloween yet!

I'm going to really focus on #5 drink more water!! I'll just have 6 hikes to do next month. 104 Fri, 22 Oct 2010 11:56:50 EST October goals **go Ninjas** http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3697243 My goals for October:

1. Burn 1,000 calories a week for my Ninjas (and for me!) 198

2. Avoid Halloween candy 421

3. Do at least 3 Fall Hiking Spree hikes (2 completed, 6 to go by end of November) 295

4. Track food and exercise every day 190 319

5. Drink at least 4 glasses of water every day (need to work up to 8). 194 Wed, 6 Oct 2010 16:39:29 EST Water Aerobics http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3675399 Well I did the water aerobics class at the YMCA while my son took fencing class tonight. I feel weird that I was the youngest person in the class, but I feel good that I could keep up with the instructor (really tried to make it a workout, but it was pretty easy all around).

I may do it again next week. The alternative is walking the track, which is kind of boring. Mon, 27 Sep 2010 21:59:28 EST My accomplishment goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3667847 A friend inspired me to get active again - because she did. And she did this by (1) hiring a personal trainer and (2) setting some big short and long term goals. She set a marathon and climbing a mountain as her one and two year goals. Mine aren't quite that extreme.

My local park system sponsors a Fall Hiking Spree every year from Sept through November. You hike 8 trails (from 1 to 3 miles, and various difficulties), and you earn a badge for your hiking staff (or a hiking st... Fri, 24 Sep 2010 14:56:40 EST Just completed my 11th training session http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3667067 Well, it isn't cheap, but it's so worth it. I started working out 2x per week with a personal trainer, who I found on Craigslist. My first workout was August 17th (just over a month ago). And this is the longest I've kept a fitness routine in over 7 years.

I feel great, I've lost 11 lbs., I'm more energetic, my back doesn't hurt, and I'm proud of the cardio exercise I can do.

Ingrid comes Tuesday at 6 am and Friday at 7 am to my house, and we work out for an hour in my ...
