I've been doing really well the last six weeks, being within my calorie range or close to it. I decided to have some Cuban for dinner. There is a fabulous place near my house. I got pulled pork, rice and beans. I hadn't planned on getting it for dinner so I didn't have a ton of calories left but you know what? I enjoyed every.single.bite.

So I went over, I knew I would but I did track it all. It was eye-opening to see the total calorie count. I learne... Sat, 4 May 2013 00:24:46 EST Going meatless... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5337699 I've been thinking about going vegetarian. I do like pork and chicken a lot. But there are so many reasons, moral, environmental, health-wise to going meatless. I have many friends who are vegetarian and they all say they feel so much better without meat.

If you've gone vegetarian, how did it go for you?

Tonight I had a delicious meatless meal. Black beans with red pepper and onion, baked tortilla chips, mango salsa, avocado and spinach. So fresh and yummy.
... Sat, 27 Apr 2013 21:25:59 EST Ethnic Fest http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5336714 Today at my school was a huge annual event, Ethnic Fest. All the student groups bring in food, there are performances. Today we saw belly dancing, spoken word poetry, Irish dance and songs, a bboy crew, traditional Mexican dance, bachata dancing, etc.

Many of the student groups also have booths where they sell traditional foods of their culture (or things that will just make money). For example, here's the Black Student Union selling soul food:

<img src="http://photo... Fri, 26 Apr 2013 19:46:40 EST Wasting Time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5335636 I have been spending too much time on the computer! I love social media and SP. I can spend hours on youtube and just get lost in music and documentaries. Luckily I'm walking 30-60 minutes a day now and then at least I feel I've earned that computer time.

It's really rewarding to come on SP and keep track of the minutes.

56 Thu, 25 Apr 2013 19:46:25 EST It felt like spring... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5334572 Went for a beautiful walk along Lake Michigan. It was only 50 degrees or so but felt downright balmy. Everyone was down at the lake, biking, walking, running. It almost felt like spring in the city!

434 Wed, 24 Apr 2013 20:30:11 EST Caught up! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5333256 I am a teacher. I teach in an urban school and class sizes are large. My smallest class is 32 and my largest class is 39. I love my job very much but at times the grading gets overwhelming. Over the past few weeks, I've been putting 6-8 hours in on weekends to try and get caught up. I finally am!

Woot!

The thing is tomorrow, two classes turn in essays and Friday three classes turn in projects. I won't be bored for long.

150 Tue, 23 Apr 2013 18:15:23 EST Cold... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5330609 I'm really not a weather complainer but this spring has really frustrated me. It's hard to want to walk outside when it's snowing, raining or just simply cold. Fortunately I have a small gym in my building that has some bikes, treadmills and ellipticals. I just really dislike looking at a wall while I workout.

I live about a block from Lake Michigan and this morning I went out to walk and the wind just cut through even my walking gear (the stuff that is super thin so you don't h...
