Yea! I have struggled these last few weeks, I took a hard fall that bruised my knee and shoulder. I had to take short walks to get my miles in for the month of June and to reach the 900 mile mark. I did it, I worked through the pain. I did go to the doctor to make sure I didn't have any serious injuries, just bruises and a strained rotator cuff.

July will be a challenging month for me, I am having surgery Monday morning, at 7:30 (June 30) so I... Sun, 29 Jun 2014 11:32:24 EST Walking along the Carson River http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5718015 I had a lovely walk with my dogs Max and Cody along the Carson River this morning. I finally figured how to upload pictures to my computer from my phone so I can share them but I can't get them to attach to this blog. If you would like to see some photos they are on my Spark page in the photo gallery.

This mornings walk included an up close with the wild horses in that area. My dog was nose to nose with a colt but I had put my phone back into my pocket so I missed that photo. <B... Sat, 14 Jun 2014 18:57:19 EST A nice day for a walk at Sparks Marina http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5690045 I had a lovely walk around the Sparks Marina today; weather was perfect. I had to take my sister to the Reno airport so I decided to check out the Marina before heading home. This was my first time there and I wish I lived closer, I would be there as often as I could get there. I even took a detour to the Legends Shopping Mall to check it out.

311 Wed, 7 May 2014 20:24:07 EST YTD exercise goals met! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5686843 I ended April at 607 miles which is on track to reach my goal of 1800 miles for 2014. I had two days in bed in March due to food poisoning so I am happy that I was able to reach my goal. Staying focused is important. I am focused on my exercise but not my weight loss; I need to do a better job of planning my meals. I lost two pounds in March and gained them back in April. I feel successful in maintaining my weight but I am not reaching my goal of losing to reach my goal weight of 140 (or... Sun, 4 May 2014 00:43:46 EST A great day with family! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5681849 Yesterday was my grandson's 16th birthday (the best birthday present I ever received) tomorrow is my birthday, not telling my age! Today our family threw us a joint birthday party. This is the first time in years that I have had my family to celebrate with. We had such a nice day, lots of good food and family times and the cards were hilarious. I am so thankful I made the decision to move to Nevada to be near family.

I was suppose to walk in a 5K today with Knotary1,one of my R... Sun, 27 Apr 2014 19:32:40 EST Miles walked as of 3/1/14 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5637147 I am at 312 miles year to date; I am averaging a little over 5 miles per day. I am on track to walk 1,800 miles for the year! Some of those miles are from walking in place or just walking during commercials while I watch TV. The weather or my schedule sometimes keep me indoors. I have a daily goal of walking outside for a minimum of 10 minutes but usually do 30 minutes. Regardless of where I walked my miles, they all add up and equal body in motion and calories burned. With this extra e... Sat, 1 Mar 2014 19:59:13 EST Starting the year strong! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5582074 Since I moved to Nevada in July I have wanted to walk from our house to the community mail boxes, about at 1.75 mile trek one way; I took that walk this morning. When I got up I thought I would drive into town to the gym and then thought again. It is a beautiful day, 40 degrees with the sun shining so I donned some warm clothing and off I went. It was a nice walk, took me about 90 minutes (I have short legs) and I am so glad I did it. I feel good and I have finally accomplished that goal.... Sat, 4 Jan 2014 16:27:30 EST 800 miles + http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5577035 Just had a nice walk outside. It is still a bit muddy from the snow melt so I had to walk slower than usual. I have now walked 801.7 miles in 2013.

My goal at the beginning of the year was 500 than that changed when I decided to retire and move to Nevada. Although I am retired I am still so busy that I have to make time to exercise.

I am so proud of myself for accomplishing 800 miles. There were days that I had to walk in the house because it was too cold to go outsi... Tue, 31 Dec 2013 18:58:29 EST Moving forward http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5554697 Took the challenge to walk 300,000 steps in November; completed the month at 329,000. Moving up to 11,000 steps per day and a goal of 350,000 steps for the month.

I am at 648 miles walked year to date and so I am upping my miles to 750 miles by December 31.

521 Mon, 2 Dec 2013 00:31:36 EST Walking is my exercise of choice http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5550385 I started this year with a goal to walk 500 miles. I received a trophy for 600 miles at the beginning of this month. I walked 37 miles last week. I walked 5 miles today! I have quit my job to move to Nevada to be closer to family and to help care for my aging parents.

I am looking forward to these changes but they come at a big price, losing the security of a decent income and medical insurance, moving from my own home into my sister's home, leaving friends behind, leaving a great church and a ministry that I love. Fri, 21 Jun 2013 09:55:20 EST I climbed Potato Mountain http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5356109 I did it, I made it to the top, I climbed Potato Mountain in Claremont, CA. It is a 1000 foot assent in 2.2 miles. It was hard, there were times I thought about turning back. Times where my heart was beating so hard I thought I need to turn back. But with the help and encouragement of a friend and my own determination to not let this mountain beat me, I made it to the top!. It took me 1 1/2 hours to get to the top but I got there and I am proud of my accomplishment.

I could ... Tue, 14 May 2013 09:55:26 EST Exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5319467 I know some people struggle with exercise, I struggle not having enough time to exercise. My job is the biggest obstacle to exercise. Getting up at 4:00 am to start work at 6:30 doesn't leave me time to exercise in the morning. Working until 4:30 pm and sometimes as late as 5:00 doesn't give me much time after work. So I have to squeeze in exercise. I really enjoy walking and I enjoy going to the gym. I would like to be able to go and swim too but the demands of family make it all diffi... Thu, 11 Apr 2013 09:57:10 EST Smiles http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5314765 Wow, I noticed I am number 5 in spark points on one of the teams I belong too! WooHoo! Earning those points through exercise and checking in each day.

I am getting lots of complements these days, people telling me, "you look great." I feel great too. Eating healthy and walking at least 8 miles a week; last week was over 10 miles.

I pulled a pair of old jeans out of the drawer to do some yard work and discovered that they were almost too big! My goal was to walk 100 miles by the end of April so I am 30 days ahead of my original goal.

For some this may not seem like a great accomplishment but for me it is. Last year at this time I was using a walker to get around. I injured my knee 9 years ago, had surgery that did not heal well and developed severe arthritis that made walking difficult. On 2/29/12 I underwent a complete knee replac... Sun, 24 Mar 2013 17:31:10 EST Busy schedule http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5286320 I tend to fill my life with activity and as a result don't have much down time. My biggest challenge for exercise is that I have to plan to do it. By keeping the thought in the back of my mind, just 10 minutes, helps.

Things I have done to fit exercise in, take time out of my lunch break to take a walk or pick up my weights while I am watching the news and do upper body strength training. I'm now using the 10 pound weights, yea me! Some times I roll the exercise ball out and pr... Thu, 14 Mar 2013 09:54:08 EST To Exercise or not http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5155759 I was sitting on the couch after a long day of work and errands after work and I wanted to just sit. I was tired! But that little spark said just 10 minutes. So finally at 9:30 I got up and grab my barbells and started working on arms. I did everything I could think of with my upper arms. I ended up completing 15 minutes of exercise and felt good about that choice. I knew I was going to the gym after work tonight so I could have rationalized myself out of that short work out. I am so g... Tue, 4 Dec 2012 09:42:41 EST What does the future hold http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5147657 The reason I am here is to get myself healthy. Mon, 26 Nov 2012 21:25:29 EST Size 12, here I come! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5136243 I started pulling the size 12 clothes from the back of my closet, even found a size 10 in there that I don't remember even buying. Pants are still a little snug, muffin top to big. Maybe another week or two, need to do more crunches to firm up the belly. The tops are fitting and the blouses I use to leave unbuttoned are now being buttoned up! YES!!!!

It's fun to have a new wardrobe waiting for me. Thu, 15 Nov 2012 10:49:23 EST Blowing it http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5117751 At first I was upset with myself for eating the third cookie (they were small) but I am learning that I just need to adjust my eating for the remainder of the day. Yes I fell short on protein for the day and was at the top of my fat for the day but I adjusted dinner and came within my calories. It wasn't the best day on record but I am proud of myself for not giving into the "well I blew so just continue to eat everything you want" mentality. Tue, 30 Oct 2012 10:19:06 EST Slow but sure http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5114590 I am still trying to find the right formula. Do I weigh myself every day, do I weigh once a week. This week I have weighed every day and find that it helps me to be conscious of my weight. This morning I felt bloated and so I knew my weight would be up from yesterday. Also, it seems that the day after I have a good workout my weight is up, not sure why that happens. I'm thinking it is inflammation. I have also tracked my differential in intake to output and I am over 3500 calorie differ... Tue, 16 Oct 2012 09:29:04 EST Exercise endorphins http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5089964 Yesterday was a busy day doing housework, laundry and shopping. When it came time to take my walk I sat down and started making excuses to not go. I had a time frame window to take a walk and if I sat on the couch long enough I wouldn't have time to walk. Afterall I have been busy all day with lots of activity. However, since I am a Sparkpeople I put my shoes on and went out the door thinking I would just walk around the block. Once I started walking I realized how nice it was outside so ... Sun, 7 Oct 2012 12:08:51 EST Love to cook http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5079419 Cooking and meal planning are something I have done most of my life. I have to say that I do get lazy and or too busy to take the time to do this. This week was a good week, meals planned, all necessary foods bought and a good week of calories in line with my eating plan. I had time to exercise and time to relax. This weeks menu included new recipes for using up my abundent zuchinni crop. I cooked a sweet potato, not yam, for the first time this week and my husband and I both enjoyed tha... Sat, 29 Sep 2012 10:52:30 EST Planning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5066057 I left work yesterday with good intentions of going for a walk when I got home. However, when I got home I realized I did not have everything I needed for my dinner so instead of walking I was grabbing the keys and driving to the store. It was dark by the time dinner was cooked so the walk never happened.

Goal: Plan my meals and go grocery shopping one time per week. Wed, 19 Sep 2012 09:41:09 EST
