DEWACHA's SparkPeople Blog DEWACHA's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Monday, Monday I think I love Mondays. Fresh start - clean slate. 41

Everyone has life challenges - everyone. Sometimes we hear things we don't want to hear - and have to accept things that we considered impossible possibilities. Such was last month for me. 27 54

Humbling, upsetting, raging and ranting and finally it is Monday, a clean and beautiful new slate.
437 67

One of the most important lessons I have lear... Mon, 6 Jun 2011 11:22:39 EST Scale independence or dependence? My journey is to a healthy body and healthy energetic life style. This I know, and profess on my Spark Page. And yet the goal of reclaiming my life is also measured by weight loss. My eventual goal is 135 lbs, a 95 pound weight loss. My goodness - that is pretty close to a whole person! I am currently by the scale 1/3 of the way there! It is exciting - and every morning - I eagerly step on the scale to see where I am. BUT what I have noticed is that scale can dictate my... Fri, 6 May 2011 08:41:41 EST Continuing sigh 46 I may end the week with a gain. Not a usual happening. I have been working consistently towards weight loss and my goal weight. 10 lbs at a time.
This past week, I had eye surgery- was two days not allowed exercising, was away from home for meals, celebrated my oldest daughter's graduation.... and on and on. AND NONE of these are excuses. 30
As I did my treadmill - 30 minutes this morning - I switched back to using it with my i-pod music - I hav... Tue, 3 May 2011 09:32:07 EST I learned this weekend We had a wonderful Easter Weekend. Family came from all directions and converged on a beautiful home we had rented for the weekend, nestled in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, on the edge of a golf course. The goats had come down off the mountains to feed on the new grass, the babies were soo cute, they were right in our yard and right off our back deck. We broke bread and we shared wine. We hugged and we laughed. We played cards and we hiked.

I had been exercising regularly... Mon, 25 Apr 2011 10:12:21 EST My Choice - my fault - learning curve. I was a little disappointed with myself this week. Friday is my weigh in day - and I only lost one pound. I had hoped for 2-3, I had done all my exercise and more - and I normally choose to be at the lower end of my calorie allotment indicators.

So what happened? I very often weight portions - so I am getting pretty good at judging them as well. The only thing I can think of is the wine - twice this week I shared a couple glasses of wine with my husband. (couple each time... Fri, 8 Apr 2011 10:51:54 EST Coping I am getting ready to take 12 women to a large convention on Friday, Saturday. As you might imagine - rides, rooms, dress code, meals all need a wee bit of co-ordination.
In the mean-time, during the weekend, I thought I would down load some more tunes for my i-pod. Opened a site called Share Bear - sounded nice enough. It took me about 15 minutes after I downloaded it to realize!!! MISTAKE!! I tried to delete it - but it had already put it claws in my hard drive. Yesterday - I d... Wed, 6 Apr 2011 12:14:04 EST I have the Key Over the years, I have bought so many diet books, expensive diet books, cabbage soup diet books, pretty diet books, purse size diet books, huge diet books!! ! Maybe I was not ready for them, many did not go past the word "diet" Most of them were never completely read, and most of them were never completely followed as evidenced by my current weight.
In February I purchased the Spark, as a supplement to joining the Spark People web site. I began reading the spark, chapter by chapter. ... Mon, 4 Apr 2011 10:49:12 EST Say Cheese! I am not sure this is where I should put this little tidbit but I wanted to share it.

Often we end up throwing out cheese or not being able to take advantage of the savings of the bigger package buy. I have not generated any interest in my family for "light cheese" sooooo

Here is what I do. Buy the big pack, save the money, grate the entire block and freeze it. Place it in a Tupperware container or airtight container. Add a TABLESPOON of Cornstarch and shake it. Th... Sun, 20 Mar 2011 13:45:11 EST Paradise Lost Well, not quite. 334
My husband and myself just returned from a beautiful week away at an all inclusive in the Caribbean. I committed to record my food and to walk 5klms/3 miles a day. What do you know - I did both! Thank you SparkPeople! I know committing to it in a previous blog - made the difference for me. The hotel must have known I needed the exercise because they put us on the fifth floor - with a beautiful stair case to climb. YUK lol.
The food choices di... Mon, 14 Mar 2011 15:06:02 EST Holiday Week We will be on holidays for a week, starting Saturday. Where we are going there is little or no access to computers, both a good and a bad thing! 41
24
My challenge and commitment is to record my food intake and to walk 5 klm a day. My thought is to walk an hour – lst thing in the morning and then sprinkle additional energy expending activaties during the day, to I hope compensate for additional food that might 18 t... Thu, 3 Mar 2011 20:51:42 EST Perspective Some may remember I was recently organizing and cleaning my home office. While there, I discovered many photos that had not made it into albums. I passed a stack of them(with out looking through them) to my husband and daughter in the living room, then when back to my office to finish some business. From the living room I heard “Exquisite!”, “Stunning!”(observations coming from a biased daughter - lol) The picture was of me some 25 years ago. I looked at the picture and saw a heart shap... Thu, 3 Mar 2011 10:53:57 EST Winter is long Here it is the lst day of March - and here in Alberta Canada - it is -30 celsius(25 below Fahrenheit, with lots of snow still and again. Winter seems long this year! 39 On the positive side - as the saying goes about March "In like a lion- then out like a lamb" The warm days will come!

334 On the other hand - I just finished my 30 mins cardio - 10 minutes at a time. What a gift for all areas of your life - 10 minutes at a time! I started organizing my... Tue, 1 Mar 2011 09:59:03 EST Spark People When you look at other people's Spark Pages, when you read about all the triumphs - in weight, in attitude and in life, it makes me very humble and grateful for their examples. So many people here have learned to "walk the talk", with grace and with humor. When you stumble you get up. When someone else stumbles - you lift them up. Victories are cheered, challenges supported, people are empowered.
I have purchased the Spark book and am on chapter 5 right now, the insights, observati... Thu, 24 Feb 2011 10:07:24 EST Scale Knowledge My goal is to lose weight, become healthy and comfortable with my body and my lifestyle.

Last Wednesday I ran into my first challenge along the way. I am pretty much a "newbie" here and was racing towards that quick start of lbs lost. My focus was on remaining consistent with exercise, drinking my water and with recording calorie intake honestly and within the recommended framework. And then I found out about the SCALE! Geez. Pounds were coming off quickly, as a direc... Mon, 13 Sep 2010 11:36:34 EST Funny how things work when you are focused on a goal. My first goal when starting with Spark People was and is to make the 30 days in the program, to become involved in the community and to add my voice of support to those who have chose the journey to health and activity.

It is always easy to find excuses to not exercise "today" or to not record what you eat, or to choose unwisely with regards to food. Sometimes you have to dig deep to find that commitment that you had yesterday! Only two weeks in and I already know this.
... Thu, 2 Sep 2010 12:23:57 EST Annual Golf Tourney Well, I survived the weekend. Okay truth out - I enjoyed the weekend and I am just darned tired!
Each year my husband and I host a golf tourney for his work group. Over the years it has grown from a Saturday tee off and barbecue to people coming to hot tub and camp fire on Friday, golf the next morning, bocci ball in the afternoon and poker in the evening, All accompanied with fun, food , laughter and liberal libations. It was especially important this year because of the down tur... Mon, 30 Aug 2010 09:37:18 EST weekend It's end of my business month today at midnight, finishing final orders, making sure goals are met, making sure team members don't miss their goals. AND.... my husband I are hosting our annual golf Tourney, people start arriving today and leave Sunday. Last min. stuff is everywhere! And I am scrambling.
HOWEVER - why I am writing here is I am still taking time for my 1.5 miles on the tread mill today. And I think what I will do tomorrow is get up before everyone else and go for a wa... Fri, 27 Aug 2010 12:57:48 EST Are You Afraid? I have committed to many diet attempts , usually with some degree of success, but never permanent. I have tried Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, paid programs, extreme paid programs, programs on my own, cabbage diet(lol yes did and more than once!) and Spark people. I have supported the economy in my purchasing of diet books! I have always done these attempts on my own - tired of friends or husband saying "she is on another diet" My husband is very supportive and likely my friends would be... Mon, 23 Aug 2010 10:09:15 EST Consistency 30 days makes a habit. And my Mantra will be " Do or do not - there is no try" I am here today at this obese weight(that is a difficult word to type and even more difficult to say) as a result of my actions and choices, both in food and lifestyle. I know that sounds like a hard line but I am sincerely and clearly looking in the mirror. And I choose life. And I choose that person who has so skillfully hidden herself under 80 lbs of excess weight. I want to be healthy and I want my chi... Thu, 19 Aug 2010 12:15:49 EST
