Part of my silence is because I've been very busy lately and I'm about to start grad school, but it's also because I've taken my eye off my goal a bit and I feel like I haven't had much to say.

I did something amazing earlier this year. In May, I completed a challenge in which I cycled 31 miles and then walked 42 miles (in the same day) for Maggie's, a local cancer care charity. It took me 21.5 hours to complete the event and I h... Fri, 6 Sep 2013 06:24:10 EST Nearly ready to go http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5323890 Yesterday was a great day of training for my Maggie's challenge: a 13-mile hilly hike plus a 7-mile bike ride. I had hoped to do more on the bike, but it was ridiculously windy in Fife where I did my training yesterday, so I crapped out earlier than I expected! I'm not sure I even mentioned it on Spark before, but a while back I signed up for the Maggie's Monster Bike and Hike challenge, which takes place in three weeks. It is a 31-mile cycle followed by a 9-, 23- or 41-mile hike. I will ... Mon, 15 Apr 2013 11:11:55 EST Big challenge ahead http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5318722 The biggest threat to my new lifestyle is right around the corner; my touring season is about to start. I work seasonally as a tour director, which means that I spend about three months of every year on other peoples' vacations. It's great work and I love to be able to travel, but it's REALLY HARD to stay on plan when I'm leading a tour. Imagine spending 2-3 consecutive weeks eating restaurant meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner with very little personal time for extra fitness...this is ... Wed, 10 Apr 2013 17:40:13 EST Little changes everywhere http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5290161 Here is my first "20 pound difference" picture. The picture on the left was taken on Christmas day and the one on the right was taken this morning. I put on the dress especially for this pic and then I changed out of it and went for a run, hahaha!! I'm very pleased with the way things are going. On to the next 20...

And look at our Theo photobombing my new pic - what a ham! He's also in the "before... Sun, 17 Mar 2013 18:31:39 EST The view on the way back down... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5286084 Hi all! Thanks for your encouragement about Berlin. I'm back from the show and everything went well, including my eating! I did have a couple of treats here and there, but it was nothing I feel too uncomfortable about. On my first night there, I managed to do a nice long night run. That was the extent of my formal exercise...and my sightseeing, since this trip was all work. However, I walked several miles each day just getting to/from/around the conference center, so I was hardly a bump... Thu, 14 Mar 2013 04:59:04 EST Wind in my sails http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5273767 Just a quick one today...I'm off to airport for my big trip in a couple hours, but I have a little something to celebrate: nearly 18 pounds lost!!!! The little strawberry in my ticker is now in the second quadrant of my total goal! I am going to work as hard as I can to make sure that I am STILL in that second quadrant when I get back from Berlin. I really hope I can steal a bit of time in the evenings for a bit of city running. And I'll stay away from "das Bier."

Have a good w... Tue, 5 Mar 2013 04:51:56 EST Danger zone http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5267636 Spark friends, I have entered the danger zone. All of a sudden, I have become overwhelmed with work (my work is like this...I'll have nothing for a while, then several big things all at once). Though it's nice to be gainfully employed and all that, I worry about sticking with my program through these busy times. It's so much easier to plan meals in advance and be mindful about what I'm eating when there's not so much stuff fighting for top billing in my schedule!

Another thing I... Thu, 28 Feb 2013 19:37:16 EST 29 again... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5260941 Big victory today! I'm back in my "twenties!" No, I'm not lying about my age (my real twenties ended a few years ago)...I'm talking about my BMI. Today I stepped on the scale and saw the little numbers I've been trying SO HARD to see since I started in December: 29.9!!!!! Though this is far from the BMI attached to my goal weight (21.5), it's still a big milestone and I'm so happy to be 29 again. Roll on 28! 192 Sat, 23 Feb 2013 11:06:03 EST Returning to normal http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5251861 Dad left this morning and life will finally get back to normal for the first time since Thanksgiving. This has been the craziest holiday season ever. We hosted Thanksgiving AND Christmas, then I had a birthday, followed by New Year's and a two-week visit from my mom in January, a big party at ours in January and finally, a two-week visit from my dad in February. I am sure that if I had not started my diet and exercise plan when I did, I would have gained at least 14lbs so far this year, ra... Fri, 15 Feb 2013 17:12:19 EST Dad's here! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5234209 My dad has arrived in Glasgow!!!!! It's been nearly three years since I last saw him, which is a long time, but it felt like not a minute had passed when I saw him walk into the arrivals hall at the airport today. He's trying to sleep off a little bit of the jetlag just now, but for lunch I gave him some of my "checkerboard chili" from the SP Cookbook with a bit of quinoa to soak it all up. He loved it! It's such a blessing that both of my parents are really into healthy eating - it makes... Sat, 2 Feb 2013 08:58:34 EST Stress eating http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5232616 I have too much going on at once right now and it's disrupting my meal planning. Yesterday was terrible - I didn't have a lunch planned out and I was too busy with work to just drop everything and cook a nice meal, so I just ended up snacking ALL AFTERNOON. It was mostly healthy snacking, mind you, but it just never stopped. I had an entire plate of veg with 1/2 cup of my LF yogurt dressing, two big spoonfuls of natural peanut butter (a weakness...), some leftover vegetarian haggis from Bu... Fri, 1 Feb 2013 05:05:19 EST Is it really this easy? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5227418 This is my Spark blog?!! I can't believe it! I thought I had to set up a blog somewhere else and import it here in order to have my blog on Spark. The thought of having yet another separate blog or social network to keep track of really turned me off, but now that I know it's not such a fuss to do, I'll definitely be blogging here!

For my first blog entry, I'm going to plagiarize part of my own "introduce yourself" post from the Spark People Cookbook forum today...

I...
