DESIROCKS's SparkPeople Blog DESIROCKS's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Ditching the Scale I am not going to weigh myself anymore. I am going to keep up with my healthy lifestyle and when I fit into my medium shirt nicely, (meaning it is snug but not tight), then I will weigh myself. Otherwise, it's too discouraging not too see the numbers move hardly at all when I KNOW I am wearing 3 sizes smaller than I was. It's super frustrating and discouraging and makes me want to give up. BUT I WON'T GIVE UP! Instead, I'm going to kick the scale out of the way and keep journeying toward my... Tue, 7 Oct 2014 22:09:43 EST Haha My rear is smaller today ;D Sat, 4 Oct 2014 18:09:17 EST Made it to Week 11! Week 11 of my new active lifestyle, and I am loving it, except anemia's got me down right now. I get to use my new sparkly nail polish this week, it was my reward, and I started fresh and took off the last ten weeks' nail polish this morning. Feels good to see my toes again! I am still working on my amigurumi dolphin, but it's coming out rather nicely, and next week's reward will be the urban jungle beanie. Excited! I have a neck strain I am working on healing, and an allergy reaction above o... Sat, 4 Oct 2014 17:00:05 EST YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! :) I was walking in town today and saw myself in the reflection of a store window. I was thinner! I was really thinner! I am really changing, and my new lifestyle is really working. I just have to keep it up, I'm doing this for me, and other people will adjust along with me, hopefully. Because I am changing. And I am going to KEEP changing. I am going to keep going. I CAN DO IT!!!! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! :) Wed, 1 Oct 2014 18:54:24 EST Owl City "Welcome back, Winter, once again...put on a warm fuzzy sweater 'cuz you'll feel much better..."

Warm fuzzy sweaters and thick fuzzy socks just make everything better. Hot tea doesn't hurt, either. :)
Mon, 29 Sep 2014 22:16:22 EST Week 11 Thoughts I really love exercising. I never thought I'd say that. I am so glad I am leading a more active lifestyle.

My ami dolphin is running into some issues, I'll work on that tonight.

I love my owl manicure. They're so cute! Mon, 29 Sep 2014 17:25:36 EST Improving My Performance! :) This past week I had 5 out of 7 days where I burned 1,000+ calories from daily activity and exercise. This is a lot better than what I had been doing, 1-3 days per week. I still need my rest days, but that was pretty amazing to me. I am also trying not to let other people's decisions andfeelings affect my good behavior. Stick to the course! Mon, 29 Sep 2014 05:13:30 EST Exercise and Rest Today I am resting. I had a great workout yesterday, and I am enjoying my time putzing around. I'll probably go in the pool later for some stretching out and cold water muscle therapy. I feel really good about my workout because I did a couple of things:

1. I really pushed myself and didn't let my mental blocks overcome me. Thank you God for making that possible and helping me believe in the abilities You have given me!

2. I did not push myself too far. Which I have had ... Sun, 28 Sep 2014 19:09:31 EST Bwaaahahaa! I leg pressed 390 for reps today! Sun, 28 Sep 2014 05:33:53 EST Slimming Down I can definitely tell I am thinner than I was, and stronger. I am so glad that my current lifestyle changes are such that I can maintain them for the rest of my life. I am looking forward to being physically able to do things that were once impossible. Fri, 26 Sep 2014 05:23:55 EST Restraint and Patience My family is getting a gym membership and we took a tour today. I am so excited! Kettlebells, medicine balls, dumbbells, bosu balls! I can't wait. But then I started to stress out about doing my whole workout in the gym, getting overtired, and wow. I really need to slow down. I don't have to use the gym as my whole workout, it's a supplement. It works for me. I can go straight to the kettlebells and swing them around if I want to. The biggest thing is to do my own thing and KEEP LISTENING TO ... Fri, 19 Sep 2014 17:34:11 EST Feeling Crappy Ugh! Anemia, I need a shower, I'm tired today, and I feel like I should be exercising more. I need to let my body rest and give it the time it needs to cope with all the stress it is under. I need to give myself a break and not push so hard! And not be so critical and perfectionistic on myself! I am also going through a lot of food temptations with a birthday going on right now. I can have some fun foods in moderation without making my body feel bad from overload!

Take a break. Des... Fri, 19 Sep 2014 17:15:37 EST I Am So Encouraged! I am a definite stress-eater. Thank you to Sparkpeople for helping me define and remedy this!

Today I had a stressful situation come up. I had already eaten a (filling!) dinner, and I was going to go wash dishes in the kitchen. I felt like I really wanted some Reese's Pieces or something, but I knew it was probably because of stress.

I was able to bypass the candy, but when I walked into the kitchen, there was a large plastic grocery bag filled with vine-fresh red tomato... Tue, 16 Sep 2014 23:54:02 EST My Progress I saw a picture taken of me last week, and it was really depressing. To me, it looked like I had never lost three sizes and I was just as big as ever. I tried to remind myself that it was a bad angle and I was wearing pretty baggy clothes. Well, I needed a little more reassurance than that, so I decided to write a blog post about what things PROOVE I am significantly smaller!
-My shirt that used to ride up over my stomach all the time DOES NOT DO THAT ANYMORE!
-My 2x shirt is REALLY... Mon, 15 Sep 2014 18:46:05 EST Not Even a Wildfire! I am in week 8 of my first set of ten-week healthy lifestyle blocks. There has been many roadblocks to my stress levels, which makes it hard for me to make healthy food choices and choose to exercise. There's even a wildfire dropping ash and burned pine needles outside, preventing me from using the pool right now. But with God giving me the strength and the will to keep going, I WILL SUCCEED. I AM! Mon, 15 Sep 2014 18:30:55 EST Two weeks away I am two weeks away from having had a healthy lifestyle for ten weeks! I have really enjoyed it and can see the results. Can't wait to see what changes the next ten weeks bring. Mon, 15 Sep 2014 00:19:19 EST Completed Rewards! I finished beading a keychain and bookmark for my last two weeks' healthy lifestyle rewards. I love them! Mon, 15 Sep 2014 00:11:24 EST Learning from my Mistakes Last week, in my rush to burn as many calories as possible, I burned myself out. I need to remember to alternate hard working days and low-key days. Balance! Sun, 14 Sep 2014 16:23:50 EST My. Stomach. Is. Getting. Smaller! What more do I need to say? Yay!!!!!!!!! Sun, 14 Sep 2014 16:15:09 EST Yesterday's Success! Yesterday I blogged about how I had a major lack of sleep and wasn't feeling up to healthy eating or exercising. Well, I went ahead and decided to do 5 minutes of housework. That 5 minutes turned into 50, then 55! I ended up with an hour and five minutes of housecleaning, and after about ten minutes I was starting to feel better. The tiredness was pushed to the back burner until that evening, when I was able to get to bed earlier. It was a major change from my last weight loss effort, when I ... Sat, 13 Sep 2014 12:31:18 EST Keep Going! I can't see the progress right now, but I know if I keep doing my healthy behaviors, the results will come! I get to design my matching water bottle keychain and bookmark today! Sat, 13 Sep 2014 12:24:34 EST Ugh, Tired I am so tired today and I am not able to take a nap right now. And I haven't been swimming in days. Maybe I can do some house cleaning or take the girls out into the pool. Last night I was having such bad carb cravings-I was just hungry all the time! It isn't pms, either. I don't know if it's because I was still sore (arms and legs) from my "Brave" workout two days before. I don't know if the muscles need carbs to replenish or not. Thank you all for listening. My major hurdle last time I rega... Fri, 12 Sep 2014 15:45:57 EST Feeling Gross Okay, so now I've lost enough fat that I have new fat rolls in areas that had smoothed out. I have skin I can pinch and fold over on itself. Everything is jiggly. Jiggly. Jiggly.
I have weird sunken spots in my arms and, unfortunately, my chest got smaller so now my body looks disproportionate until my stomach goes down again. But I guess that's the good thing. That my stomach WILL go down, again. It already did before, and it will do it again. Eventually my arms will be toned and they w... Thu, 11 Sep 2014 06:26:47 EST Weight Loss Rewards I'm having a hard time figuring out what I want to do for a weight loss reward this week or in the coming weeks. I guess I should just worry about this week. Well, I'm not sure if I should get something, I know I absolutely do not want to use anything edible (except tea) as a reward. I would like to put $5 toward a kayak, but I think I need something more concrete until that goal is closer. I think I might make a beaded bookmark to go with my beaded water bottle bauble. That will be a fun wee... Wed, 10 Sep 2014 14:50:50 EST Losing Weight! I am actually losing fat! I can see my body changing after seven weeks of active living and healthy eating. Wed, 10 Sep 2014 14:18:36 EST Brave Today I was brave and siezed the moment, and walked around the Safeway strip mall, the whole way around! I ended up walking, with the baby, for 50 minutes. I just need to take things 5 minutes at a time and not worry about the end of the workout! Wed, 10 Sep 2014 13:50:34 EST A Shadow of a Skinny Me Today I looked in the mirror and I could see a shadow of my skinny self. I have always been very overweight, but looking at other people's weight loss progress pics and a see-my-diet progress website has given me a good idea of what I might look like at a healthy weight. My face looked a little thinner today, and I can see my upper back is getting flatter and more muscular, and in my arms a little bit, and my legs a little bit. It's happening! Mon, 8 Sep 2014 18:00:37 EST Praises! Thank You God for giving me
The strength to stand and move,
Thank You that Your love for me
Is daily, love that's proved.

Thank You God, You lift me up
To sing another day,
You give my body heart and soul
To dance,
To move,
And sway. Mon, 8 Sep 2014 05:46:05 EST A Great Revelation I found out yesterday that the virtual hike I am doing, the Pacific Crest Trail on, burns 131 pounds of fat to complete the hike. That is almost exactly how many pounds I need to lose, total! So if I complete the trail, my weight loss journey will be complete too! I know there will be some road blocks and bumps along the way. But now I have an excellent motivation and a very visual, real progress tracker. Watch out!
Mon, 8 Sep 2014 05:37:17 EST Need a Different Healthy Week Reward This week I opted for a healthy choices reward of 15 minutes doing word searches with some tea. A nice thought, and something I really enjoy, but it felt too forced for me to enjoy it properly as a reward. It's more of a spontaneous activity. Anyway, I am going to get a new water bottle charm instead. Live and learn! Mon, 8 Sep 2014 03:05:03 EST Feeling Great Today! Today I have I have been exercising in little bits throughout the day. I have been waiting for this for so long! Now all I have to do is write my future goal reached cards. Sun, 7 Sep 2014 03:06:54 EST What is Working for Me After three years of weight loss ups and downs, I decided to take inventory of the helps and tips I am currently using for successful weight loss:

Eating clean 90% of the time, whatever I want 10% of the time (from Nia Shanks)

Eating only whole grains (except for the 10%)

If I am really craving something particular, that is out of my 10%, like cheetos or ice cream, I try eating some high-quality protein or a piece of fruit first. If I still really want it, I ... Sat, 6 Sep 2014 22:32:00 EST New Clothes Motivation I bought a wonderful, super-soft, teal heather hoodie in size large, my next size to get to in clothing. I also bought a bright blue Columbia Sportswear t-shirt with Oregon on it, in medium. I hung them both up in my closet where I can see them. I am going to decorate the hangers with ribbons and bows like a gift, and write a card to myself to include with each size of clothes. When I am able to fit large, I will "unwrap" my delectable, sporty hoodie, and read the card. It will say something ...
