Just got back from a ten day vacation in South Florida where I could wear shorts and a t-shirt every day, take walks at night without putting on boots, gloves, coats, and a hat. I can't wait to retire and be a snow-bird. Sun, 10 Feb 2013 06:01:54 EST Visit the Scale today It's been about ten days since I last weighed in before I went on vacation. I'm hopeful that I've lost at least two pounds. I did great on my excercising and fairly well on my eating, so I'm hoping it will pay off. Sat, 9 Feb 2013 07:38:40 EST A Fair Week Hit my 500 exercise minutes, ate fairly health (mostly fish) and my belt is about one notch tighter, so I feel okay about this week. I did allow myself a few desserts throughout the week and over did it on the mixed nuts, but overall, I give myself a solid B. Tue, 5 Feb 2013 08:52:10 EST Struggling To Get It Right Yesterday was a great day with lots of exercise and eating very good. After dinner, however, I lost control and munched out on almonds, chips, and malted milk balls. Sounds gross, I know. I think I worked out so much (7 miles hiking) that my body needed more calories. So, I could have done better by chosing fresh fruit or ANYTHING healhier than the crap I chose. Today's resolution is to do much better and to make BETTER choices. Sun, 3 Feb 2013 07:45:20 EST Overcoming Bad Choices This mornings choices: breakfast at a restaurant or going to the grocery store for Greek Yogurt (100 calories), fresh fruit (banana) and granola. Did the healthier choice rather than the bacon and eggs, home fries. Did get 6 donut holes and enjoyed every last bite of them. Nice 60 degree day so did some yardwork, took a walk, and stayed on track with the Spark regimen. What a day! So far I haven't accompished much of anything that I'm proud of - and I'm fed up with that, so today, I'm going to start changing things by starting some very introspective look at myself. Did well on the exercise and calorie fronts and someone asked me at work if I had been losing weight. Woohoo! A very good day! Mostly due to the stress of starting class and trying to get things caught up and ahead at the office. Feeling a little more at ease, but I really am going to work on keeping within my calorie range instead of blowing it off at the last moment. Wed, 22 Aug 2012 22:45:17 EST A Week's worth of Cheating The worst week I've had since I restarted my Sparking. Mostly due to going out to eat and not being able to "count" calories. Plus it was a very stressful week and I ate into the high range and a little beyond on several days, so I'm not that thrilled with myself. I'm planning on making today and the rest of the new week a much better one. Sat, 18 Aug 2012 10:26:56 EST Goal Met and Goals Set Got below 190 pounds finally (188.8) and now my new goal is 185 pounds by September 1st. Then I'd like to get to 180# by November 20th. Ultimately, I want to end up weighing between 172 and 175 pounds, which is what I weighed when I was 22. Total weight loss will then be approximately 40 pounds. WOOHOO! Sun, 5 Aug 2012 21:13:21 EST Two Days of Hiking Yesterday was tough with a lack of energy, but still hiked 6 miles at altitude. Today had much more energy and did three miles at altitude. Sat, 4 Aug 2012 22:21:34 EST Passed Up the Donuts again Seems like there's a birthday every day at my office with everyone bringing in donuts and other junk food. Takes a bit of discilpline to keep my fingers out of the box when my natural inclination is to wolf down two or three. So far, so good, so I give myself kudos. I've wanted to binge several times this week, but managed to control my impulses. Got my workouts in early and met my goals. sparkwise, so I'm looking forward to my weigh-in tomorrow. One good sign is I can finally no longer use one of the belts I usually use. It doesn't have enough holes for all the weight I've lost so far! Feeling better and being more active and engaged. Short term goal is to be 190 by August 20th - very doable. Longer term is to be 185 by November 20th, also very doable. Went to a wedding reception and didn't have any appetizers and only a 3 oz glass of red wine. Ate a very sensible lunch. Ate a very late dinner, but kept it in check. Thu, 5 Jul 2012 22:52:34 EST Week 3 Done Down nearly 10 pounds and feeling and looking alot better. Picked up a ten-pound weight just to see what it was like - that's alot of fat! Took a nearly 3 hour hike in the mountains today - what a workout. Definitely need work on my cardio. Tomorrow, my plan is to really start hitting the weights and doing body exercises to get the rest of me in better shape. So far, counting calories has not been a bother and really is working. Stupid me said yes without considering or questioning how many calories that would be.. Ended up being 240 for the two tablespoons of virgin olive oil and 250 for the pasta noodles. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I can only rely on MYSELF to count my calories and not my wife. It just won't work that way and I got lazy. So, now I will be on double-guard. Tough to get in the outdoor exercise since we've been over 100 degrees for the last few days and it supposed to last for a few more. And they had a desssert tray that had half a dozen kinds of cookies, fudge, and other junk. I didn't come prepared because I thought for sure there would be salad or a veggie tray. BIG Mistake. Thu, 21 Jun 2012 22:44:27 EST A Small Triumph for the Day Someone brought boxes of donuts to work today to celebrate their birthday. Then there were boxes of pizza in the break room, too. One part of me wanted to consume mass quantities, but I left them both alone and stayed within my calorie range for the day. The amazing thing is that today was an extremely stressful day at the office and I usually gorge myself when I'm stressed. So, a couple of small triumphs for the day! I'll take it! Didn't obsess like I did the first time, but I am toeing the line. I feel a lot better and think I look better, too.
