Was a hard month with my training lacking and the fact that I couldn't seem to master a 20 mile run before the race. This fact worried me considerably. I got lots of encouragement from family and friends though which did help me. The week before the race I was filled with a lot of anxiety. I had personal issues going on, my hip bursitis was acting up and the night before the race I couldn't sleep due to my right leg hurting so bad from it.
... Mon, 14 Oct 2013 09:36:58 EST Marathon Training - Week 20 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5486495 I feel like I was beat up today. I had a horrible night sleep and my hip acting up so my 20 mile run today was more like 14 miles. Ugh. I was not a happy camper about that. The entire run felt just bad from the word go! I kept pushing in hopes that once I found my rhythm that the run would just fall into place. But, I never found it and I struggled the entire run. I was very disappointed.

So, I spent the entire afternoon researching 'bad runs' here on Spark and anywhere else on the... Sun, 15 Sep 2013 19:15:35 EST Marathon Training- Weeks 18 & 19 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5483067 I was very much looking forward to my 20 mile run. I am not sure how I have been able to keep up with these increases since my training hasn't actually been text book. Or, followed too closely to the plan. But, I somehow have been able to. I think because I start each run with knowing I need to begin slow and work up. I may not break any records but I am able to run the distance and with the exception of the last two miles each time, not with too much problem.

I was supposed to run... Wed, 11 Sep 2013 20:51:07 EST Marathon Training - Weeks 16 &17 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5466043 I hate set backs. Ugh. After my last long run, getting my training in through the week was challenging. Then, Saturday hit and my back began to spasm. I was in so much pain just walking. So, I didn't do the shorter run scheduled for last Sunday in hopes to get my back better for todays long run. Again, a week of no training except for Friday where I was able to go out and get some mileage in. Thank goodness, because I don't think todays run would have been very successful. So, I made sure to ... Sun, 25 Aug 2013 19:53:13 EST Marathon Training - Weeks 14 & 15 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5454489 Had to write for both weeks because I missed last week and for good reason, I didn't run. I had a car accident and was letting my body rest before stressing it with a run. So, two weeks off and it didn't do me good but I did manage to get my run in two days ago. I did 15.5 miles. Whew. I remember a time when running for 4 minutes without stopping was a big deal! LOL Now, I run for 3 1/2 hours. Of course I take walk breaks while I take in my nutrition and water, but for the most part, I run. ... Tue, 13 Aug 2013 22:26:46 EST Marathon Training - Week 13 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5439083 Well, I am a few days late on this entry but, better late than never. It wasn't a bad week for training. Got a good run in during the week, some swimming, and I got my long run of 14 miles in on Sunday. I felt good through the whole run, until the last couple miles. I am at the point of now needing two weeks of recovery after my long runs because they have become so long. But, when I do my long run, I am adding 2 miles from the last now. So, I went from 12 to 14 this time. Wasn't so bad. I hi... Tue, 30 Jul 2013 21:29:43 EST Marathon Training - Week 12 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5428456 Well, a very nothing week for training. The humidity and the heat wave was too much. I mean, it just sapped the energy out of you just walking to the car from the front door. :P Now, last week with the pulled hamstring I had decided to take it easy anyhow, which I did. Gave it time to get better. It wasn't a bad pull, but enough to feel it when I would walk. But, by the end of the week I was feeling much better in that area but the heat wave kept me from doing anything. I did manage though to... Sun, 21 Jul 2013 17:27:19 EST Marathon Training - Week 11 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5421041 So, a slow week for training. We did have a dry day but I woke up with a sinus headache so didn't get out for a run on the only best day of running this week. I did get my 12 mile run in today though. It was tough during the second half and I couldn't figure out why. I thought it was perhaps I didn't take my last nutrition gummies and perhaps that was why. Or I thought maybe I wasn't drinking enough water though I thought I was. I got home, did my usual stretching and then icing of my legs an... Sun, 14 Jul 2013 19:59:55 EST Marathon Training - Week 10 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5413573 Well, it would be nice if the weather was better for this training. Two weeks running now of heat and humidity and no relief in sight. The only thing I keep telling myself is that with training in this weather, running in October ought to be a lot easier. Only one training run this week. That was on Thursday, and I did 6 miles. Not a bad run. Then, today I did my long run and logged in 11 miles. I am still amazed that I can actually run that far. :) And today, even with the humidity, I actual... Sun, 7 Jul 2013 20:28:37 EST Marathon Training - Week 9 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5406596 So, the week began okay, but still having a hard time working in the training runs with this humidity so strong. So, I did get a run in but not as long as I wanted because the weather just did me in. So, I decided that people do run in this, so I had to read up on how they do it. So, with that research, I felt confident enough to get my long run in today outside rather than resorting to the gym's treadmill (also known to me as the 'dreadmill' because I hate to run on a treadmill). I didn't ha... Sun, 30 Jun 2013 18:42:29 EST Marathon Training - Week 8 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5399437 So, not a bad week. I did get some training in though not all of it due to my schedule being thrown off with my car out of commission. Needed a ride to work so getting the full runs in was difficult. I ordered new shoes as the last ones I got didn't do well for me. I changed brands and I probably shouldn't have. Need to stick with what I know works for me. So, my new shoes arrived on Friday along with all my new running stuff like my running shorts. It is amazing how just those things can mak... Sun, 23 Jun 2013 19:34:39 EST Marathon Training - Week 7 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5391236 So, not a bad week though I didn't do all my training runs. I need to work on that more especially with the increase in my long runs on Sundays. Used my new shoes today on my run but I can tell they aren't going to be the shoes for the race. Tried on some at the store, thought these felt good after jogging around the store. But, running in them has proved different. I loved my old shoes which are too broken down to use for running so I am going to see if I can find that model online to purcha... Sun, 16 Jun 2013 21:29:59 EST Marathon Training - Week 6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5383803 So, the week didn't go too bad. I managed a short run on Tuesday though it should have been 4 miles, I only got 2 1/2 done. I did do 4 miles on Wednesday. No run on Thur, Fri or Sat. But todays long run was very good and I completed 7 miles. Yay me! I have had to switch up though and I no longer carry my water bottle with the strap and now wear my hydration belt. I also tried for the first time Cliff Shots and I find that I like those better than gels. I will pick up more of those for future ... Sun, 9 Jun 2013 21:26:17 EST Marathon Training - Week 5 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5375904 Well, I started out the week pretty good with a run on Tuesday of 4 miles, but, with the first heat wave of the season this week, that is where it stopped. I tried to go out on Thursday and lasted 1/4 mile and walked some before going home. Disappointing but, I know weeks will be like that. So, my goal was to make sure to at least get my long run in for the week which I did do today. Took my time, took some walk breaks and drank my water and I got in 6 miles today. Very pleased considering it... Sun, 2 Jun 2013 19:28:29 EST Marathon Training - Week 4 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5369784 So, a real bust of a week. Bad weather, and no motivation. Life threw me a curve ball and I it hit me hard. Spent the weekend in PA enjoying family time. Got some renewed energy. This weeks long run was a repeat of last week so I don't feel like I have fallen behind by not doing it. Tomorrow I begin the next week. I must get my runs in if I am to make an increase on Sunday. Moving forward now and feeling good about it. Mon, 27 May 2013 22:15:04 EST Marathon Training - Week 3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5361041 So, with the week I just had, I didn't do any training. Saying goodbye to my dear friend was emotional and took a toll on my whole self. Sleepless nights and long work days kept me from doing any runs at all. But, today, my long run day, I did get up and get myself moving and did my 5 mile run today. It felt great and was something I desperately needed. My focus for this next week is to get my training runs in and get back on track.

Running - good for the soul. Something I need ri... Sun, 19 May 2013 11:37:43 EST Marathon Training - Week 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5354352 So, considering the week I just had, I didn't do to terribly bad. I unfortunately had to deal with an untimely passing of a coworker. So the week was a very sad one for me along with the 20th anniversary of my own mother's death. So, given that, I had a few days of non running. Monday of course was rest day and Tuesday I ran 3 miles before work. Wednesday I couldn't seem to get myself moving for a run. Not feeling well that morning and tired. Thursday however I was back to myself and ran 2 m... Sun, 12 May 2013 20:13:55 EST Marathon Training - Week 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5346503 So, I finished week 1 of my training and I think it went pretty well. Monday of course was my rest day so that goes without saying. LOL Tuesday and Wednesday are my challenging days because I work a long 10 hour day each of those days. So, running before work is essential since I don't get home until 8pm. I think I did well. Got up in enough time to have something to eat well before running. Ran 2 miles each day before work. I have to say, I felt very energized when I got to work. I made the ... Sun, 5 May 2013 18:16:29 EST Marathon Training - Begin http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5338441 So, I begin with my training. Actual training begins tomorrow which is funny because Monday is a rest day. I plan to blog weekly so I can keep focused on my progress. I am giving myself 6 months to prepare for this. So, since it officially starts tomorrow, I thought I would go ahead and go out for a run today as I did last Sunday. Last Sunday was hard because it had been the first time in months since I had ran. So, I did a walk/run thing to ease back into it. I was able to get through 3 mile... Sun, 28 Apr 2013 16:54:13 EST Moving forward http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5216103 So, 20 days have passed and I feel I am making some progress in my life in many ways. I am staying focused and even though I am not always able to make it to the gym, today I did and was pleased that I was able to jump on that treadmill a run 5K with ease. So, now, moving forward. Next step will be to continue this weekly run and begin adding to my miles. I will officially begin my training program in April. By mid February I expect to run 10K and that will give me a good base to begin my m... Sun, 20 Jan 2013 20:53:49 EST New Year - New Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5184857 A new year brings on new goals. Last year I had a few and even with the setbacks I went through, I managed to accomplish one of them. As much as I would have liked to done all, I am happy that I was able to run and finish my first half marathon.

This years goals will be similar. Last year I had a setback after a great start when my father passed away on Feb 1st. It was unexpected so very much a shock. I wasn't ready for that and I let myself fall into a setback that I have not been... Tue, 1 Jan 2013 21:24:50 EST A successful week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4105857 So, after getting serious, I had a successful week. I logged every day my food, I kept with my schedule for training all week. Even though I came in low with water intake through the week, I hope to change that this next week.

I discovered this week that if I plan the same breakfast all week, it help me stay with logging. I just logged my breakfast the first day, then copied it all week to the following days. One meal I didn't have to worry about jumping on here to log. Then, dinn... Sun, 20 Mar 2011 21:28:05 EST Time to be serious http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4089625 Well, I am finally deciding I must become serious about my fitness and eating if I am ever to get to my goal. When I joined Spark I set specific goals. Then reset them. Reset them again. Never actually reaching any of them. Has this made me frustrated. Yes, it has. So what did I do, but just say, 'oh well'.

With that mindset, a person will not reach their goals. So, tonight I have decided I must now really become serious. I have blamed many things on not being able to reach those ... Mon, 14 Mar 2011 00:29:20 EST Planning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2455562 For the last month and a half, I have spent that time planning. Planning to see my daughter leave yet again for her last year of college. Planning to see my son go off to his first year of college. Planning to go out time and again to shop for school clothes for my youngest daughter for yet another year in middle school. I have planned to redo my living room, planned to redo my daughters bedroom. Planning how I am going to teach "old school" opticians how to turn on a computer and input infor... Mon, 5 Oct 2009 22:33:45 EST Weight Control Buddies http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2247166 I say "weight control" because I don't like to think I am on a road of "weight loss" all of the time, and let's face it, we will always need the support of a buddy or buddies to maintain our efforts in weight loss.

I have many times over many years tried to lose weight. Sometimes with success and sometimes not. But my journey now has been enlightening. I realize that having a friend to embark on this journey is important to stay focused. I have read over and over that people have ... Tue, 21 Jul 2009 12:12:16 EST Log or Not to Log....That is the question http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1921659 Just as the title says. That was the question for myself today. Saturday's are the hardest for me to log my nutrition and fitness. Mostly because I work all day. I have access to the computer, but sometimes it just isn't feasible to get on here.

So, log or not to log. Today was even harder. We celebrated my son Chris' 18th birthday, which was actually last Saturday. But, he wanted to spend his actual birthday with his friends. Well, of course he would. I don't blame him. So, we tol... Sat, 28 Mar 2009 22:05:27 EST Day 4 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1874823 Well, I am just starting Day 4 and feeling pretty good! I have kept to the plan and find that staying organized and planning my meals is keeping me on track. I am much more aware of how much I am eating which was my biggest downfall.

As I go into the weekend, I hope to get outside and do some walking as the weather will get better.
