Doing ok...back is good. Knee not so much, but the allergist cleared me for the synvisc injection! Need to get approval from the insurance company now. Dropped 6 pounds the last 2 weeks, so I'm happy about that. Headed to Florida for a long weekend with a friend. Will be swimming in her pool for exercise while there. Never been that far south...looking forward to it! Sun, 11 Sep 2011 20:22:43 EST Definitely NOT the summer of Kim! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4443856 So, was doing pretty well with recovering from moped accident. Made it back to the gym a few times, even. Then I moved Kate back to New Paltz, to college and managed to throw my back out while cleaning/rearranging her apartment!! Had to drive myself 2.5 hours home like that! And then it was late Saturday, so I couldn't get into the chiropractor until yesterday morning. It's better, but still not great and no working out for a few days. :( I guess the lesson for this summer is PATIENCE!... Tue, 23 Aug 2011 12:10:09 EST I suck at journaling regularly! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4419452 Sorry...I mean to write more frequently...just not good at it. Anyway, I'm healing so well from the accident.

Been back to the gym two days in a row this week and feeling stronger! Even managed a complete course on the elliptical, at a pretty intense clip! Doing planks again (lost a lot of ground here...was doing close to 2 minutes and now can manage 4 30 second planks. But I'll get it back again). Back on the machines, even if I had to move the weights back a little. I'll ... Wed, 10 Aug 2011 19:30:49 EST Mini set back http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4404405 So I was doing great...able to work out, for shortened lengths of time than before, but working out, nonetheless. Then I helped my son move out of his 2nd story apartment...going upstairs wasn't too bad, but going down, especially while carrying things, was very painful. Two days of this...too much. I'm not limping now, but I'm definitely feeling it. Think I'll give it another day of rest before trying to workout again. No more set backs! Wed, 3 Aug 2011 11:16:12 EST Getting better... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4384353 I swam in a lake for 20 minutes yesterday, with almost no pain! Today I'm going to go to the gym and try a gentle workout! I'm so happy to be healing as well as I am! My accident was 2 weeks ago today. I've made tremendous progress! My knee feels so much better and my road rash scabs are all so much smaller! Well on my way! Mon, 25 Jul 2011 08:54:04 EST 6-8 weeks... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4372417 ...that's how long the doctor thinks it will take for me to make a full recovery. Once the wounds (scabs) have healed, I can start swimming for exercise. And when I can stand it, going easily on the elliptical again. It could have been MUCH worse. MUCH! So I will try hard not to complain and just be thankful that I will make a full recovery! Tue, 19 Jul 2011 11:34:20 EST It's been a while since I blogged... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4367889 ...I had a moped accident a week ago. I'm in a knee imobilizer and on pain meds. I go for an ortho appointment tomorrow morning. The meds make me a bit weepy and I'm very impatient to get back up and around. I'm trying to listen to my body and give it the time and rest it needs. This is a lesson in patience for me!

I was very concerned that I'd gain weight while just lying around. But so far, 7 days in, I've not done that. Being very aware of what goes in my mouth, how much ... Sun, 17 Jul 2011 11:12:28 EST Quick blog entry... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4317151 ...it's been a long while, so I thought I'd drop a quick note...still hanging in there...still struggling with knee issues...still working with Echelle and journaling food and exercise. Still wearing 8's and 10's with a goal of 6 eventually. More when there's more to report! Thu, 23 Jun 2011 08:01:47 EST Long time without a blog entry http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4297425 It's been a long while since an update...because there's not a lot going on. My knee is still troublesome, I'm working out when it allows me to. My next appointment (rhumatology) is in a week. Because I've been doing more weight lifting while the knee is bum, I'm gaining muscle, which means the scale is going up a bit. But all my clothes still fit, some dresses a bit looser. so I'm trying not to freak about the number. Using my clothes as my guide. My arms are more defined. Don't want... Tue, 14 Jun 2011 07:28:56 EST Knee doctor today! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4229631 Fingers crossed that I can get the synvisc shot or something to help me!!!! Fri, 13 May 2011 08:02:16 EST change in workout routine http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4223732 Echelle suggested increasing weights and reducing sets from 4 to 2...so I did...increased weights by 5 pounds and decreased to 2 sets...feel exhausted today! Can't wait to see/feel results! Tue, 10 May 2011 18:22:35 EST Should NOT have run! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4219700 So I blogged that I ran a couple of times on the treadmill, with minimal pain. Well, I got all cocky and decided to run a 5K...on pavement. Not my brightest idea. This was Saturday morning I ran. I'm still paying for it. I will not be running, on pavement, treadmill, or otherwise, until after I see the ortho. I've got a call in for an appointment. Looks like I'm moving forward with the Synvisc injection. That's supposed to last about a year. Fingers crossed.... Mon, 9 May 2011 07:45:20 EST I'm running!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4210464 Not fast. Not far. But on Monday, I ran a mile, nonstop, on the elliptical in 13:20. My knee has been bothering me a bit and nothing seemed to make it better...here I was NOT doing all the things I want to do to keep it from hurting and it was still bothering me. So I decided to try a gentle mile and see what happened. Nothing. Knee still bothers me. But not more than before I ran. I didn't run yesterday. Did the elliptical, machines, stretches, planks and such. Still not any worse ... Wed, 4 May 2011 17:49:55 EST Happy Friday! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4198054 No real news here...still plugging along with some knee discomfort. Think I'll switch it up and swim for a while, for exercise, to give the knee a break from the jarring...although far less on the elliptical, there still is some.

Hoping all have a fabulous weekend! Fri, 29 Apr 2011 07:48:15 EST Must not freak out... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4181578 ...tell tale signs...blemishes, puffy fingers, craving junk, "snappish", scale crawling upward despite working out like crazy and eating right...it's coming! After nearly 3 weeks of being sick and finally feeling better and getting back to the gym every day...Rationally, I know I'm good. Pants all fit still. Yet I find myself, increasingly lately, having internal battles about when I have that PMS upward swing on the scale. I fully recognize it's hormonal crap that makes me feel this way.... Thu, 21 Apr 2011 12:03:03 EST It's been a while... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4177122 ...not a lot to share lately, so I haven't written. Was sick as can be for almost 3 weeks (upper respiratory infection and sinus infection). But I'm better and back at the gym. Working out regularly again and feeling great. Went through my clothes and donated 9 large garbage bags of clothes. Now I have an empty closet!

Anyway, on vacation this week, doing all sorts of little projects. Planning a 25th anniversary party/renewing our wedding vows for next month. That's been k... Tue, 19 Apr 2011 15:15:59 EST Recovery http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4151092 I'm getting there...little nagging cough still hanging on. But my energy is returning and I'm sleeping better at night. I even managed a little workout yesterday. 35 minutes on the elliptical. Nothing record-breaking, but at least it was a return! And I plan to go back again today, and do a little more...baby steps! I'm getting there... Fri, 8 Apr 2011 07:47:16 EST on the road to recovery...headed back to work...maybe the gym! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4146039 I'm feeling a lot better. Not 100%, but certainly around 85% better. I'm going back to work today and very optimistically packed a gym bag. I'm not sure I can handle a full day back to work, no naps AND working out, but it is my plan. (Subject to change, should I crash early!)

I still feel quite weak and feel like I've actually lost muscles mass while being sick so long! Feel like I may have to adjust the weights on the machines at first! But I'll be glad just to be back ther... Wed, 6 Apr 2011 07:27:55 EST Still sick! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4143454 I finally went to the doctor. Upper respiratory infection and sinus infection. I'm on meds and slept the best last night I've slept in 9 (or more) days. Although I'm feeling pretty cruddy right now, mornings do seem to be the worst. So I'm hopeful that I've turned the corner and will soon be back at the gym! Tue, 5 Apr 2011 08:21:02 EST sick... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4138974 I give! I'm calling the doctor tomorrow! I've been sick for 8 days now. It's time...think I have a sinus infection and need an antibiotic to kick it. I worked out yesterday...first time since the week before. And today I'm not. MUST get better!!! Sun, 3 Apr 2011 15:09:02 EST Echelle's coming! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4116914 My fabulous long distance fitness coach will be in the area this weekend!!! We're spending Saturday together, working out together and going to breakfast on Sunday. I'm so excited!!! Fri, 25 Mar 2011 07:28:27 EST Less Buoyant? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4109283 I went swimming Sunday...first time since the middle of December. I went in, expecting it would be a piece of cake, because I am in much better shape now. Well, to my surprise, losing more weight, converting more fat to muscle, I found it so much harder to keep afloat!!! I guess that layer of fat really made swimming easier for me! I may be leaner and more fit, but clearly I'm less buoyant, too! A trade off I'm willing to deal with! ;) Tue, 22 Mar 2011 07:41:15 EST natural weight http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4102474 I'm wondering what my "natural" weight is. I've hit another plateau...Between 182 an 187, generally right around 184.6. Not the number I really want to see on the scale. I'm squeezing into some 8's and wearing 10's mostly. My goal is size 6, so if/when I "bounce" back up a bit, it would be into 8's.

I'm feeling tired a bit. Perhaps need to start taking a multivitamin again. I used to be great about taking them. But have slacked in recent months. Maybe iron, too. Could be... Sat, 19 Mar 2011 08:22:48 EST Plugging along... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4092634 ...although life occasionally throws curve balls my way, I'm doing ok! I'm not eating over crisis. Not using crisis as an excuse to not exercise. In fact, finding that I NEED, more than ever, to exercise when I'm upset. I'm not disenchanted that problems still pop up. Sometimes bad things just happen. It's how you deal with those bads things that defines a person. I will not hibernate and eat. I will continue on with my exercise and healthy eating. I will keep plugging along! Tue, 15 Mar 2011 07:33:27 EST How no progress can really be progress... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4087785 I keep a food and exercise journal and send them to my fitness coach every two weeks. Today, when I weighed in, Day 14 of this phase, I was exactly where I was two weeks ago. This thrilled me! No, I'm not at maintenance. But I had one heck of a difficult, crazy two weeks! We had to do some traveling, we got snowed in by an unexpected storm, our son had some medical problems and was hospitalized. CRAZY two weeks. I managed to get to the gym, even if not as often as usual. I didn't eat ... Sun, 13 Mar 2011 09:47:21 EST wrong direction!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4080791 Scale's going in the wrong direction...I seem to be losing inches still...gone from 12's and some 10's to 10's and some 8's. Wearing a pair of 8's right now. Yet the scale has gone up almost 7 pounds since my all time low. ?! I know muscle weighs more than fat. I know my arms are showing more definition. But I'm getting scared. My goal size is 6...am I going to weigh 189 pounds (or more) and be a size 6?! I can't imagine that I could...I had thought I'd be about 150 or 160 in a size 6... Fri, 4 Mar 2011 14:00:24 EST I'm so over winter!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4053371 That's it! I'm done. I'm officially THROUGH with winter!!! Yesterday I fell on the ice...jamming my wrist, elbow and shoulder, twisting my knee AND getting my iPhone wet! Fortunately, nothing (including the phone) appears to be broken. Just sore. Very sore.

But I'm so tired of it...the snow, the ice, the cold...the snow, the cold, more ice, and much more snow...and did I mention the cold?! Mon, 28 Feb 2011 07:30:13 EST Doing the bounce, watching the numbers http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4043553 So adding snacks helped me lose 10 pounds in about 2 weeks...then a period and I bounce up 2 pounds. Been kicking it at the gym and I'm up a couple more. Clothes all fit. In fact, they might even be a bit looser. Am I kidding myself if I think it's me converting fat to muscle? I went from 182.2 at my lowest about a week and a half ago to 186 this morning. I'm trying to not make it all about the number on the scale. And to gauge things by how clothes fit. I've been lifting weights and ... Thu, 24 Feb 2011 08:17:07 EST Who do I think I am?! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4036307 I did TWO back to back cardio classes at the gym tonight! Kick & Sculpt, which I've been doing and I really like it. And another one called cardio sculpt & abs. My gosh, I almost left when I saw all the serious hard bodied people coming in for the class! I mean, yikes! But I was all set up, up front...and it would have been a big hassle/scene for me to leave. So I stuck it out. Would have won "Most Spastic", if they gave out prizes, for sure. But I did it. 120 minutes of cardio madne... What a difference it makes when you get enough calories, huh?! Who knew? (well, likely a great many of you knew...I didn't know...that's who!)

On the workout front, I've been trying all sorts of classes at the gym. Zumba is done for now. Hoping they bring it back soon. I LOVED it! My second and third favorites, so far, have been kick-n-sculpt... Sun, 20 Feb 2011 14:40:35 EST Menstruation/PMS/weight gain http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4024516 There! That title alone should be fair warning to any men or women uncomfortable with that topic...so consider yourselves warned!

A year ago in December I had uterine oblation. I haven't had a "real" period since then. But I do get some very, very light spotting, mild cramping, tender breasts, a couple of pimples, a little moody, pick up a little water weight and get just a little weepy. Until this month. Although the very light spotting is the same, the cramping, bad mood and... Thu, 17 Feb 2011 07:57:12 EST Changing my goal...AGAIN! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4018870 So I'm comfortably in 10s and squeezing into 8s...and can see that there is plenty of "reserve" left. So after discussing with Darryl and Echelle...and sending her photos of me in bra and undies...we've all decided a goal of size 6 is doable, reasonable and healthy. So I'm committing. I'm going for a size 6 now. Wish me luck! Nothing major, but something I'm just tired of hearing about. So I've decided to take a day, maybe two, off. Lengthen my weekend a bit. I've got a lot of sick time. And I'm taking some. By the time I go back, all the drama should be done/gone/over.

My only concern...tomorrow is Kick & Sculpt at the gym...some work people go. I'm thinking I'll just go to it and if they say anything, I'll just say I'm feeling much better...?! ... Sun, 13 Feb 2011 20:12:28 EST 8's...right around the corner!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4012477 I own two pairs of size 8 pants...got them both up, on and zipped...but they're way too tight to wear in public just yet...but I'm getting there!

I went to a clothing swap today and picked up two more size 8's...for the future. Some sweaters, some jewelry and a couple of tops, too. It was fun. I took two large bags of stuff that was too big and came home with one large bag of new stuff!

We plan to do it again in May, which will be great...I won't have anything that ... Sat, 12 Feb 2011 18:17:06 EST Zumba is over :( http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4008782 Last night was the last Zumba class...but almost 70 people have signed up, saying they're interested in another class...hope that means they'll work hard at bringing someone in to do it! I really enjoyed it!

I'm going to try a new class today. I think it's called ABC cardio. Not sure what it's all about...I'd like to do three classes a week. I've been doing kick and sculpt on Mondays. And now Zumba's over. Have to work in swimming, once I get a suit that fits...keep changing ... Fri, 11 Feb 2011 07:52:49 EST Numbers are moving again! :D http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4003152 Echelle was right...eat more, lose again! I started eating snacks and the weight's coming off again! I was stuck between 194 and 191 for 2 months. Only change...2 small snacks a day! And this morning I was 187!

So hard to wrap my head around it. I worry as I'm eating the snack...worry when I get on the scale...but am please, so far, with the results! :D

Had my second cortisone shot last Friday. As I approached it, I changed it to a 10. As that approached, I changed it to an 8. When I hit the longest plateau ever (about 10 weeks), I began to wonder if I should still go on for an 8. Maybe 10 was good enough. But I stuck with it. I persevered. I eventually broke the plateau and I'm losing again. Slowly, but that's ok.

And now, although comfortably in 10's and not even close to 8's yet, again I find myself wondering about changing my goa... Sat, 5 Feb 2011 08:38:15 EST Headed to the doctor today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3989426 After another nearly sleepless night, I'm off to the doctor in a few minutes. I'm anxious and hopeful that I'll get another shot of cortisone. I don't relish the idea of being shot full of steroids, but I really did like the results of the last one.

My sister, a nurse, suggested I ask about Ultram for pain management. So I will ask and see what they say. I'm cautiously optimistic that I'll be feeling much better in a few days! (Took about 3 days after the shot last time...) <B... I prepared by using icy hot, wrapping my knee and taking arthritis strength Tylenol before the class and then doing the sauna after my work out. So far, I'm ok...but the true test will be about 20 minutes after I lie down. That seems to be when it's worst, if I've overdone it. I'm really hoping I can continue, as I really like it. I'm terrible at it...not graceful or anything, but it's tons of fun.

And tonight, I felt like I had more in me,... I absolutely loved it! It was great fun and pain-free while I was doing it. I forgot my wrap at home, so I didn't wrap it. But OMG, my knee was AWFUL all night long! Next Thursday I'm going to wrap it well beforehand, use the IcyHot stuff, and maybe take some Arthritis strength Tylenol and see how that works. If not, I'll give up the rest of my session. I've been qualifying that with, I can fit into SOME size 10's...I'm not really a size 10...I'm more like an 11. Well, I tried on 8 size 10's last night and every single pair fit me! I'm really a 10 now!

And I bought my "goal" pants last night, at Salvation Army, for $1.50. Size 8.
