Sun, 28 Jul 2013 11:01:48 EST Food stamp restrictions? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5434929 On the Spark start page this morning was a link to a newspaper article in Charleston SC about legislators trying to put limitations on what food stamp recipients can buy with their stamps (now actually a card). They think that by restricting "junk foods" just maybe they can help the obesity problem in our state, which is a very big problem. Fri, 3 May 2013 07:03:15 EST What a difference in 2 months - photos! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5336792 I made a Lenten sacrifice this year of giving up these three things: diet soda, sugar and bread. Also, I added many more minutes of exercise to the mix, did more walking, adding in some intervals of higher inclines and some running. Also did more cardio and my usual calisthenics (old school style). During that 6 weeks I lost around 6 lbs, and a couple of inches here and there, nothing really astounding, BUT... Inside, I walk at an average of 3mph-3.5mph, then kick it up a couple of notches until I am breathing rather hard then slow down , then back faster, then slower, then raise the incline etc. I have been doing it this way for a few weeks. And I believe it is helping me.
Now, I can walk faster longer, and 3mp... Tue, 26 Feb 2013 21:21:56 EST My inner Jillian is screaming! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5257970 Monday night I watched the Biggest Loser while walking with "Buddy". If you didn't see it, Jillian had a fit when two of the women would not, saying they could not run 5 minutes on the treadmill at 6 mph at a low incline. They quit after 1 minute, each time they tried.

She was saying rather emphatically to the other coaches and everyone around that they should be able to do it after having been working out as hard as they did for 8 weeks. They should have progressed to that poi... Wed, 20 Feb 2013 20:58:42 EST I love Spark People! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5255496 I"m not sure how I found Spark People. I received an email about it, from I don't know who. But at that time, last July, I had already lost weight by eating right and exercising. So I was in the mood to check it out, to see if it offered anything different.

It surely did offer something different - it offered all of you! I have interacted with some of the most interesting people, the most fun people, and for sure, the most amazing people I had ever read about.

The ... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 22:15:35 EST Stagnant - but not for long!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5253702 I have hit a huge plateau. I have been at 170 for what seems like forever.

I have been eating healthily, for the most part. Okay, when I come to think about it, I must confess that I have made some lousy food choices off and on, but not in huge quantities and not often either. I guess I have proved to myself that I can maintain. But I am not satisfied with where I am, so I am going to get going.

Well, actually I have upped my activity this month quite a bit, and I ... Sun, 17 Feb 2013 14:50:09 EST A perfect vacation... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5249517 would be to visit my Spark Friends! I would have to go all over the world to see all I'd like to see.

Starting in the South Carolina, I'd have to go as far north as Maine, as far east as Washington State and let's not forget Alaska. Then south along the West coast to San Diego and other points in CA. I'd make pitstops in Indiana, Ohio, Vermont, Connecticut, Minnesota, and many, many others in the USA. Then Canada, of course for several stops. Then hop a plane to New Zealand,... When I was young, that was ancient. As a young adult, that was pretty old. Now, that is young!

What does it feel like being 58 you ask?

No different to me than being say - 18. (Except for a few physical differences like eyesight, and knee noise)!

I feel young, I am young at heart and mind.

While I like almost all music, I like metal the best!

I still like to play any kin... Wed, 6 Feb 2013 19:53:19 EST Fall in Love with Life http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5239349 I love me! I love me, unconditionally.
I am smart, strong and in good health. I have a marketable talent and am a self-starter. I have a great family, terrific friends and a nice sense of humor.

I have challenges in my life, just like everyone else. I have had great times and horrible times, I just choose to focus on the positives and throw out the negatives with the trash. I like being happy.

I REFUSE to let anyone or anything get me down - it is just ... Tue, 5 Feb 2013 21:27:03 EST Lenten tradition http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5235626 From as far back as I can remember, we were told by our parents that we needed to sacrifice something for Lent. We had to give up something we liked for the entire Lenten season, then we were released from our sacrifices on Easter Sunday. Usually we gave up candy, or talking back, or promised to do household duties - without complaining.

As a young child, this was a big deal, it was very hard to keep quiet sometimes, as I always had a bit of a smart mouth. So I wound up givin... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 11:38:27 EST
