Tue, 7 Jan 2014 10:42:42 EST Feeling ready to go http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5562032 I didn't run Monday as per my schedule. I had run Friday, raced a 5k Saturday and did another 4k on Sunday. Shins were complaining a bit.

So I was good to me. Massaged myself, used analgesic cream, didn't run. Now I feel ready to go again.

My co-worker who's been training with me seems to be coughing a lot though. Don't know if the cold weather he ran in last week caused probs or he's just getting a cold.

If he doesn't go at lunch, I may not as well. I have my... Wed, 11 Dec 2013 10:22:13 EST My first Santa Shuffle & first 'winter' race http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5559194 I did it! I ran the whole 5k of the race and felt good doing it. At the fastest I went 5:52 and my slowest, I went 6:16 so that averaged to 6:09!!!
I ran the whole 5k in 30:47 244

All the slow training is really paying off!! If I keep this up, I'll have another good race at the end of December.

I think the race course helped though. It was on clean, dry roads. The sun was shining but there was a cold wind. Sat, 7 Dec 2013 15:48:42 EST Taking a break http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5558201 I WAS supposed to go running yesterday at lunch but decided against it. I ran twice on Wednesday, am planning to run tonight, have a 5k race tomorrow and also plan to run with the practice group Sunday morning. Yeah, I can take ONE day off!

Tonight will be 6 & 1s with the leader of my Wednesday night clinic. She said she'd go out at 6 pm from the store. Another clinic participant said she'd go too. I know it'll be an easy pace so I think I will join them.

I'm excited to... Fri, 6 Dec 2013 08:19:32 EST More running http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5557439 Someone at the clinic yesterday why I was running twice a day. I said I only do that on Wednesdays because I am helping a co-worker also prepare for a 5k race that we are both doing on the 31st.

I don't feel overly taxed physically but at the same time I feel I'm getting fitter. I was a touch afraid I was coming down with something. I work up at 11:30 am!!!

Felt better so went out for a run. It didn't last long. Fatigue swept over me and I went to bed again for a couple more hours.

Had to get up to go to the dentist. Tue, 3 Dec 2013 10:00:49 EST Organizing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5553369 Trying to get my art room/computer room/tack room organized. Since I left my old boarding stable where I was for two years, I went from having a whole room to store my horse gear in, to just a 2' by 2' wood box. It's been sitting in my living room for quite a while.

Decided to sell my drafting table/chair/lamp as a set so that I could get storage for the horse gear. Sat, 30 Nov 2013 10:53:41 EST Woot, woot - we are in training! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5552808 My co-worker came out with me today. I put my interval timer at 3 & 1. He found it still hard but then he's not run outside in this weather much at all. It was -10 C and sunny though.

I told him that at least he got out. We don't have to go far or fast, just get outside. And even if we did a little, it's training. When we do the 5k at the end of December, he can still walk/run. Fri, 29 Nov 2013 13:25:31 EST Another good practice http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5552151 We ran 5/1 for 3 sets last night, then run 2, walk 1 for the Learn to Run class.

I'll be going out again tomorrow noonish to do another practice (alone or with my co-worker).

Thu, 28 Nov 2013 10:36:55 EST Dumped on by Mother Nature http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5551324 10-15 cm of snow got dumped last night & is lightly continuing. Thu, 21 Nov 2013 07:52:27 EST Treasure hunting http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5545871 I took DD shopping at the Salvation Army Thrift Store this past weekend. I asked her if she wanted to go treasure hunting. I was going to find running clothes. Someone somewhere may have donated technical shirts or pants. Maybe. I thought she could find some track pants for kicking around the house.

And I did! I found a pair of running pants from the store where I am taking my running course. Wed, 20 Nov 2013 07:35:59 EST Running analysis http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5544969 The topic last week at the running course was injuries and bio-mechanics. The guest speaker was a physiotherapist. She had a slide show & talked about foot strike, injuries & their causes, lots of stuff.

Found out too that she does gait analysis. They video you running on a treadmill and view that to see where you can improve or change to avoid and/or heal injuries. It was very windy so we fought it going out.

I had my calculator for 4 & 1 (run 4 minutes, walk 1) and we would alternate. I could hear his breath being very laboured so I offered to switch the calculator to 3 & 2. As well I said we should talk so that if we couldn't we would know we were going to fast. It was training after all. And he was truthful in that he was grossly out of running practice.

I said I over did it this spring & had to ... I saw him in another cubicle having a meeting. I waited for a few minutes to see if he was wrapping up but no, I went out solo (not new for me) and did my workout.

I left him a note saying I had to go on ahead. Then he was in meetings the rest of the time I was still in the office so I didn't find out if he had gone out at all.

Well today we are supposed to go. It's on his calendar so we'll see. Well horses are number 1, cats are #2 and dogs are #3.

I'm a big fan of our new puppy, Trooper though. I took him to the barn yesterday. He sat or lay down on the passenger seat. No fuss, no muss. He's a good traveler now.

We're going to start Puppy K classes this month. So we chatted yesterday about form & dressing for running.

And I introduced myself to two of the faster runners in the group and ran with them during the class run. I suspected a colleague was re-assigning work to me but there was no tracking of changes like that. I was wondering why so many assignments were being assigned to me while this other person had 1/3 as much. Turns out that's what this person was doing.
