All synaptic activity previously engaged in such diversions has been diverted to imagining food. MMMmmmm....foooood. Foody food. Eat. Food. (food) Tue, 9 Sep 2014 00:01:13 EST Almost done with week two of revamped menu and exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5773579 Monday of last week I recommitted to exercise and controlling my diet. I setup a food plan with significantly less calories than my normal excessive amount and committed to 10k steps a day on my SparkTracker. I've lost over 10 lbs and am very motivated to continue. Thu, 4 Sep 2014 21:36:08 EST The lost blog entry... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5771294 I just typed a lengthy, brilliant, insightful, and inspiration blog entry. My internet went down, and when I clicked post, the entry was lost.

You'll just have to take my word for it--it would have changed lives. Mon, 1 Sep 2014 17:25:18 EST The Feeling of New Running Shoes: http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5670217 One of my favorite passages from Ray Bradbury's "Dandelion Wine" describes a young boy's experience getting new shoes after a long winter. Enjoy...

“Stop!” cried the old man.

Douglas pulled up and turned.

Mr. Sanderson leaned forward.

“How do they feel?” The boy looked down at his feet deep in the rivers, in the fields of wheat, in the wind that already was rushing him out of the town. He looked up at the old man, his eyes burning, his mouth moving,... Sat, 12 Apr 2014 01:18:57 EST Friday Night: Exercise or watch Netflix? Both! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5670204 I can't tell you how badly I wanted to just blow off my workout and watch TV all night. If I had done that I would also have made about 5 trips to the kitchen for snacks. Instead, I sucked it up, turned on Netflix in front of the machine instead of the one in front of the couch, got on the treadmill, and burned out 1 hr. 45 minutes of SparkTracker steps. I feel great and will sleep great.

Physically it was the right thing to do, but I also feel good emotionally too. It makes me fee... Sat, 12 Apr 2014 00:51:52 EST Just don't buy it if you shouldn't eat it... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5665445 Went grocery shopping and bought something I shouldn't have, rationalizing that I'd eat it a little bit at a time over several days. Was lying to myself. I'm throwing the rest out right now. Good bye ice cream. Someday when I have the will power we can be friends again.
39 Sun, 6 Apr 2014 04:00:56 EST I wonder if I get a faster computer if I'll lose more weight? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5665193 Perhaps I can get my SparkPoints even faster with a faster computer, and then I'd lose weight quicker. Then again, perhaps I'm just trying to justify getting a new computer... Sat, 5 Apr 2014 18:01:23 EST Lousy weather = Treadmill + Netflix Marathon! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5665140 Gonna log a ton of treadmill mills and cram in as many episodes of House MD as I can today! Going to climb the Spark Activity Tracker Overall Individual Leaderboard and make my family crazy as I brag about it. Here's to going to bed exhausted at the end an active Saturday! Cheers! Sat, 5 Apr 2014 16:01:49 EST Just leveled up! Now to kill some goblins...oh, wrong site... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5664698 I'm "Level 9" now with all the attending privileges & honors. I look back on when I was just level 8 and think how awkward and innocent I was. Fri, 4 Apr 2014 23:59:22 EST Wrapped up the month with a 2 hour workout! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5661317 I feel great and am looking forward to another month of hard work. I also got the 2500 Fitness Minutes trophy and start a new job tomorrow. What a great start for the week! Mon, 31 Mar 2014 23:51:52 EST Will walking backwards take steps off my workout? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5658217 I'm just wondering. Thu, 27 Mar 2014 23:18:53 EST 154 SparkAmerica Team Points today - Personal Record http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5657345 154 SparkAmerica Team points is my personal record so far. What's the most you've ever gotten? Is it completely random, or is there something you can do to influence the algorithm? Wed, 26 Mar 2014 21:34:21 EST Spark Activity Tracker is delivering results http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5656647 Since I received a Spark Activity Tracker from my sister, I've hardly missed a day of getting 10k+ steps. I'm getting 25 to 75% more workout hours than I did prior to using it. (I also have to admit that I talk to it, and call it "Sparky") This think has really pumped up my fitness routine, as I really, really want to get all the little LED's lit up. Great gift! Wed, 26 Mar 2014 00:13:56 EST Time for a day of rest http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5654496 I worked very hard on my fitness this week and now get a day of rest. I worked hard on my other health goals too, but I don't get a day of rest from eating right. The hard work is paying off, as I've lost 4 lbs and am averaging 1 lb/week. Sometimes it's hard to step on to the treadmill, but SP motivates me every time, as I don't want to go to bed at night having not reported success for the day. I'm less than 10% of the way to my goal, but I've had three false starts previous to SP, and just ... Sun, 23 Mar 2014 10:45:22 EST SP is working for me http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5653913 What are the differences between my past failures and my current success with SP?
* I have written goals, and excellent tools to track my progress
* Each time I report progress against a goal I get immediate positive reinforcement in the form of a written record of my progress, SparkPoints, Trophies, level advancement, SparkGoodies, and community feedback.
* I have a support network of friends and family that I know who are on the site and anonymous users that are empathetic an... Sat, 22 Mar 2014 12:46:21 EST I think I made it through a 3 week plateau http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5653260 I've been working out 90 to 120 minutes a day and staying within my nutritional guidelines for 3 weeks without losing a single pound. I suspect any fat loss was offset by muscle gain. I finally lost a pound over the last few days. Please let it continue, please, oh pretty please! Fri, 21 Mar 2014 13:34:04 EST I always laugh at the "map my route" button... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5652833 ...when I finish posting my treadmill workout fitness activity. Wouldn't it just be a map with a big dot? That's pretty much the same thing it would have looked like if I had sat on the couch and ate a family size bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos and a bucket of KFC. Fri, 21 Mar 2014 00:20:32 EST My sister gave me a Spark Activity Tracker! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5650406 My sister originally introduced me to SparkPeople, and now she bought me a Spark Activity Tracker. Today is day one of a new streak wearing my new toy. Being a bearer of the Y chromosome, I like things with blinking lights. THANKS SIS! Tue, 18 Mar 2014 00:21:39 EST I keep telling myself I'm putting on muscle weight... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5648422 I've gone a few weeks without losing a single pound in spite of 90 minutes on the treadmill 6 days a week, staying at the low end of my calorie range, hitting the right carb, protein, fat ratios, drinking my 8 cups of H2O, etc.. I must be growing lean muscle on my legs...yeah, that's what it is.
39 Sat, 15 Mar 2014 12:57:57 EST Risk management and morning exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5647293 I didn't exercise in the morning yesterday. I had a few hours scheduled after work before I was to go pickup my daughter at the airport, but she arrived an hour sooner than expected so I had to leave. Since I was going all the way into the city, we added a few errands, plus eating out. Got home at midnight and missed the exercise window. Also broke a two week perfect exercise streak! Ding Dang. Started a new steak today. Thu, 13 Mar 2014 22:07:07 EST A day off from exercising, but not from health http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5644111 I started thinking of Sunday as my day off because I don't exercise on Sunday, but SP has helped me to put much more emphasis on the big picture. So today I still watched my calories, nutrition, water, sleep, and salt intake. Tomorrow, 6:00am, back to the treadmill! Mon, 10 Mar 2014 01:58:02 EST It all starts with getting the right shoes... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5643175 Take the time to try on several pairs until you find a pair that feels perfect. Spend as much as you need to. Exercising with good shoes lets you train longer and harder in greater comfort. Bad shoes discourage you from training at all, make you miserable, cause blisters, and possibly lead to injury as you contort your body to favor the blisters and aches. GET GOOD FITTING QUALITY SHOES! Sat, 8 Mar 2014 21:26:17 EST 5:30pm and I done et all my calories already! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5643119 I didn't mean to, but I had a big bottle of Simply Apple pure pressed apple juice chilled down near freezing and begging me to chug it down. It was soooooo tasty that I kept going back for more. I drank about 500 calories before I snapped out of the euphoria and put the bottle down. At least it wasn't some artery clogging treat or fermented cider. Now I just have to stay out of the kitchen. I need a distraction that isn't normally accompanied with snacking, like how I like to eat chips and wa... Sat, 8 Mar 2014 19:43:06 EST Making progress on all fronts... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5642567 SP is really helping me to exercise daily, watch my calories, watch my nutrition, get enough sleep, lose weight, get my bp down, drink enough water, and more all the time. I've referred three other people, hoping they'll get some use out of it. Sat, 8 Mar 2014 00:40:38 EST Yet another great day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5641773 Hitting my exercise and diet goals (though I could use a few more vitamins). Getting sleep, drinking lots o' water, getting my fruits and vegs. And FEELING GOOD! Fri, 7 Mar 2014 00:09:08 EST Actually had to force myself to eat to hit minimums today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5640936 I felt like I ate plenty today, and was not hungry, but it got to be 9:00pm and I hadn't hit my minimums in all categories. I hit the kitchen looking for some healthy snacks. Eating 1000 calories of HEALTHY snacks is HARD. I'm actually still about 600 under for the day, but I'm too full to eat any more, and it's bed time. Thu, 6 Mar 2014 00:17:11 EST Not to brag or anything, but I'm leveling up tomorrow http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5640933 Just in case anybody out there has been asking "When is CTICKET going to level up again?" I can tell you with high certainty that "tomorrow" is the correct answer. Perhaps SP will make that one of their true/false trivia questions. Thu, 6 Mar 2014 00:14:51 EST Staying up late working. Hard to get my 8. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5640045 I have to get a system installed before the normal work day starts tomorrow, and it looks like I'll be up until quite late. Wed, 5 Mar 2014 02:33:19 EST Got it done early today! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5639990 After several days of putting my exercise off until the evening, and having trouble sleeping because of it, I did my exercise at lunch today and feel totally ready to go to sleep now. Wed, 5 Mar 2014 00:05:55 EST Have a giant headache...but want to keep up my exercise streak http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5638981 I have a huge headache right now, but am on a good exercise streak and don't want to blow it. I'm just going to get on the treadmill and do as much as I can. If I can't do the full 90 mins, at least I'll have made my best effort. I had to stop taking one of my BP meds due to a bad side effect, and can't see the doc for a replacement until tomorrow. I've been off it since Friday and the headache, as well as my BP has been going up every day. I also need to go a bit easy in the treadmill becaus... Mon, 3 Mar 2014 21:18:26 EST Day of rest http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5637935 It's been a great week, and I'm both tired and sore in a good way. Now it's time for a day to rest. I look forward to feeling rested tomorrow, and having another great week. Sun, 2 Mar 2014 18:37:17 EST Almost blew off exercise today...but didn't! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5637339 I intended to do my exercise first thing this morning but made the mistake of picking up a book in a series that I'm currently chewing through in addict-mode. I read for a few hours, ran some errands, came back and did some cooking, then went back to my reading. Suddenly it was 9:00pm! I got all down on myself, and was ready to just call it a day, when I picked up my Kindle, increased the text size so it's easy to read from a distance, and got on the treadmill. The 90 minutes flew by as I fin... Sun, 2 Mar 2014 00:51:17 EST My solution for getting a full night's sleep http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5635942 For once I actually got a full night's sleep. The problem isn't getting out of bed, it's getting to bed on time. I keep reading until I can't keep my eyes open. Fri, 28 Feb 2014 10:10:52 EST Back on the program http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5635637 I got back on the program this week after being down with bronchitis. I was miserable, and realized that my weight is probably at the root of most of the ills I suffer. I really want to stick with it this time. My goal is to get down to 200 by July 31. I haven't weighed 200 for 10 years. That is the half-way point to my goal. My final goal is to get down to 165 and maintain 165 to 170 year-round. Thu, 27 Feb 2014 22:39:00 EST
