Long story to follow but I have said it before and I will say it again...a marathon is a helluh long time to run therefore the race report will be long too!

On Sunday I finished my third marathon in MA called the BayState Marathon. It is known for being a super fast course with most of the runners actually BQing for Boston. I needed a fast ... Wed, 22 Oct 2014 12:30:20 EST MARATHON 3 Training WK19 - MARATHON #3 is Tomorrow!!! So excited!
So SCARED!
So Ready!

YUP, tomorrow is the DAY! The stars are aligning perfectly for it to be a good race too! Every day this week as been unseasonably warm but tomorrow will be a brisk 50 degrees which is perfect running weather! I went yesterday to get my massage and my massage therapist Luann who is always such a burst of positive energy gave me a great pep talk about how spectacular I am going to be tomorrow...I actually believed it too! Feeling so fresh, the sun is shining and I feel SO GOOD in my new neighborhood!

39 (Yes - I am aware how corny this sounds...bear with me people, THIS is absolute crazy talk that comes out the minds of running when you are training for weeks and weeks for a marathon)

Anyhow, I am loving taper town! It's a nice place to be, super relaxing I must say feels like I am on vacation! L... Fri, 10 Oct 2014 15:09:12 EST MARATHON 3 - Training WK 16 - 22MILES!! Strategy ????? YUP - that's right, last Saturday on a beautiful morning that began at 0500, I set out for what was going to be my longest training run EVER...can I get a WOOHOO! It was not exactly part of the plan the plan was for 20 miles but I have been following this running blogger who is doing the same marathon that I am doing and she always does at least one 22 miler during her training. It is such a mental hurdle once you get beyond 20 miles for sure so I thought, why not try it. Well, let me tell... Thu, 2 Oct 2014 12:26:46 EST MARATHON3 Training WK13, WK14 & WK15 - Cooler Temps = #WINNING!! PRing a race that you've worked so very hard for weeks
Or buying new running sneaks
Or better yet, like EARNING a NEW super fancy medal bling
It's a WONDERFUL thing...
RUNNING in cooler weather is AMAZING!!!
(Super cheesy I am aware- but I seriously thought of this Ode to Fall Weather while pounding out my awesome 20M run last Saturday that made me remember that I can actually run and it can be rather pleasant when there is a nice breeze and the sun doesn't ... Sat, 20 Sep 2014 19:12:28 EST MARATHON 3 Training WK 11 & WK 12 - Well, I'm sticking with it! I seriously do NOT know what my problem is. Maybe I'm burnt out, maybe this summer heat is kicking my @ss BUT what I do know is that the last 2 weeks have been really sh!tty as far as running. My first long run, my 20 miler was an absolute joke as was my 19 miler the week prior. I started walking each time somewhat due to fatigue, probably heat but this is not giving me the warm and fuzzies that I need to stay focused and confident that my next marathon will be a good performance. The onl... Wed, 3 Sep 2014 19:29:30 EST MARATHON 3 Training WK9 & WK10 - Good Form Running & Narragansett Bay Half Marathon Just now catching up on this blogging thing after an exhausting day of running a half marathon. All part of the training plan no less but August halfs are no bueno no matter how you slice it! This was an inaugural race in East Providence, RI which I guess is the same race course as the Rock n' Roll Half which is now cancelled for the state. The race organizers hearts were in the right place and plenty of runners came out to support, 1200 for the half alone....BUT...I am a race snob! Inau... Sun, 17 Aug 2014 15:25:41 EST MARATHON 3 Training WK8 - Struggling What a week I tell ya! Glad I made it through but not my finest week of training...

The main reason for my overall tone is due to my lackluster long run today. On the menu was 16 miles. I decided to do it on the bike track nice and early this morning. Everything was going along fine in the beginning but it was hot and humid. It was threatening to rain all morning long and the humidity just sucked the life out of me. It was okay for awhile, I even saw a baby deer which I though... Sat, 2 Aug 2014 19:48:13 EST MARATHON Training WK6 & WK7 - Foam Rollin' I am getting so very bad at updating my training blogs here, not sure why but I am just getting lazy about it BUT on a positive note I have been consistent about my marathon training. My training run times have still not been stellar but I am chalking it up to the weather right now.

I went to my first session with a massage therapist named Luann, she is a magician I swear! Very informed individual who also happens to be an athlete herself. I cannot say enough kind things about... Sun, 27 Jul 2014 17:51:35 EST MARATHON 3 Training WK(s) 3-5 (& 1/2ish) - Long Overdue UPDATE I have SO been MIA, but NOT slacking for sure! Here is a recap what's been going on in my world...

HOT WEATHER!
This marathon training has started off a bit rough, I have had all kinds of aches and pains and truly have not felt 100% thus far. I feel as though I am hacking it every single step of the way. I have a sneaking suspicion that I know the reason why - it's HOT!! I am seriously like a vampire and I am literally SCARED of the SUN! I wake up for my long runs when it... Sat, 12 Jul 2014 20:41:56 EST Marathon 3 Training WK1 & WK2 - A ROCKY Start And NO by Rocky I do not mean like Sylvester Stone, Rocky Balboa start, I mean that getting back to training for my next marathon is not leaving me with the warm and fuzzies. However, happy to report that I am pushing through. I have had quad pain since the end of my training with my last marathon. I have been stretching and icing but for the first and second week of retraining, things were not going so swell. It was quite iritating to say the least. However, I did figure out this week b... Tue, 17 Jun 2014 14:00:56 EST Looking Ahead & Game Plan! SO, my last blog was all about my BEAST of a goal in completing MARATHON #2. Still super happy that I did it but the cards did not entirely go the way that I hoped.

OH - and for accountability purposes because I LOVE being able to go back and look through my old blogs and see the numbers...I completely forgot to track my last week of training for it...

MARATHON WK20 - STATS
Monday - cross train
Tuesday - 3M, treadmill 7mph
Wednesday - 4M outside, 34:03 ... Wed, 4 Jun 2014 11:20:06 EST KeyBank Vermont City Marathon - Race Report! SPOILER ALERT: I had every intention of making my second marathon the spectacular one in which I got a sub 4 hour finish. Did NOT happen, tried my hardest but came up short with a 4:08:35 finish, close...but not quite there! HOWEVER, the silver lining in this is that even though I did not meet my goal, I had an AMAZING experience, would NOT have traded it for the world, feel STRONG about accomplishing my goal of FINISHING another marathon AND I know now that I will try AGAIN and this was ... Wed, 28 May 2014 16:52:29 EST STUFF that crazies running a marathon on Sunday do... OMG, I am officially going off the deep end, I slightly remember this feeling last year of losing my ever loving mind the week of my marathon...but I think that this is worse, I will attempt to list the reasons why...

#1. I am now contemplating taking ice baths just because I read in a book that elite marathoners do this for soreness and I am beginning to believe that the soreness that I claim to have may be as a result of just being crazy right now

#2. I have re-read ... Thu, 22 May 2014 12:32:06 EST MARATHON Training WK19 - Almost There...I can FEEL it! Well, hello - Sunday is my marathon, AH!! I *think* that I am ready. Last week I still had a bit of soreness in my left quad but I think that I am feeling it way more since I am tapering and my mind is going crazy. My run times though have not bee affected. I am excited but nervous for race day and hopeful that I have enough gas in the tank. This week my runs will be extremely minimal with my last 4M run scheduled for tomorrow. I am supposed to carb load but not until like Thursday whic... Tue, 20 May 2014 14:27:52 EST MARATHON Training WK18 - Sore! 5K Success & Where I'm at... Really sore, because marathon training has officially whooped my a$$
I am scared because I had two extra weeks of training built into my schedule unexpectedly and now it is too late and a dollar short to do anything about it!
I am stressed because my training schedule is jacked up and I am just winging it
I am losin... Sat, 10 May 2014 19:26:59 EST MARATHON Training WK17 - "Imaginary" Training Week & AHHHH!!! Well last week of training was purely made up, a "padding" week if you will. Reason being is that my full marathon is not scheduled until 5/25/14 and as it turned out I started my training too early...silly right? I mean who would not use an extra rest week before jumping right in there on marathon training? Well, I figured one extra week would not hurt and because I have gotten smartAH in my old age, I decided instead of adding one more *INTENSE* training week which in the end I do not th... Wed, 7 May 2014 11:39:15 EST MARATHON Training WK16 - Celebrating the TAPER with BLING! I am really, really in the home stretch here PEOPLE! And I am SO excited! My second marathon is only 3 weeks away and I am feeling really good about it! So good in fact that this week even though it was the beginning of my taper time which is really a glorious time, I decided to celebrate by adding in a bit of a challenge. SO, I decided that this morning that instead of trotting along with my typical run that I would challenge myself to a 5K! Nothing makes you shake out the cobwebs more ... Sat, 26 Apr 2014 19:26:32 EST MARATHON Training WK14 & WK15 - Bringing it in to the FINISH! The end of last week concluded the intense portion of marathon training...can I get a WOOHOO!

Once again I finished my 20 mile long run just under 3 hours which means...dare I say it...I am on the right path to get a sub 4 hour marathon come the big day. I hate that I have even quantified that as my goal, which is a popular goal to say the least but really I do not want to put so much pressure on myself especially because I have been reading lots of blogs about this marathon and m... Tue, 22 Apr 2014 07:22:28 EST MARATHON Training WK12 & WK13 - Adventures in Zumba, Chasing Sk8ters & Scaling Bridges! Doesn't that title sound OH SO exciting!

I am just now catching up with my last two weeks of marathon training and unlike last year in which I was thoroughly exhausted from the process, this year I am making the training work for me and as such am enjoying myself more so than ever! Biggest difference is forcing myself to deviate from the ho hum of strictly running miles after miles and adding some fun stuff when possible to keep things interesting. So before the reporting of my s... Tue, 8 Apr 2014 19:11:31 EST MARATHON Training WK10 & 11 - Peak Training! Man, the mileage these last two weeks has been pretty crazy but I am hanging in there! Last year during the peak mileage time I was burnt out pretty much, it also did not help last year that I was in the middle of moving and buying a house whereas this year there are far less distractions going on. I am proud to say that I did every single training run as ordered by my Hal Higdon traing chart which is a beautiful thing. When I originally started training I was not too sure if the Intermedi... Mon, 24 Mar 2014 10:13:11 EST MARATHON Training WK8 & WK9 Tracking & HM PR! Well I totally slacked on tracking my training and my weekly goals last week but that does not mean that I was not busy! Yesterday I completed another half marathon which was part of my training and I did surprisingly well! There weather is cooler than what I would typically like for a half marathon in general so I was so surprised when I actually PR'd the event!

Yesterday I did the Ocean's Run Half Marathon in South Kingstown, RI. With the race being right on the water I knew t... Mon, 10 Mar 2014 18:32:08 EST MARATHON Training WK7 - Increased Mileage = DEcreased Weight Reporting quite late on my training from last week but right now I am approaching the high mileage portion of my marathon training which is a bit exhausting but I remember distinctly last year that it gets worse and then when you think you cannot take it anymore the taper begins. Right now it has been okay, the only runs that are causing disruption have been my long runs which I reserve for Saturday mornings. Last week I woke up really early to tackle my 16M run and I have to say that it we... Thu, 27 Feb 2014 09:59:10 EST MARATHON Training WK6 - The COLD is Killing My Swag & New SNEAKS! Here I am reporting back after a week that proved at least last week anyway that I am committed to this marathon training through both good and bad times...Let's start with the good!

I bought new sneaks, I was WAY overdue that is for sure and I am ashamed to admit that the last sneaks that I bought were during LAST year's marathon training - huh, and I wonder why my knees are kicking my @ss! Anyhow, I went to my fav running store Rhode Runner, whined about my knee issue and my ove... Wed, 19 Feb 2014 18:14:10 EST MARATHON Training WK5 - Knee Pain, why? Last week's training mileage was definitely up there and even though it was frigidly cold around these parts I did 3 of my runs outside. Last year I avoided the winter conditions with training but I know that nothing beats an outside run, even if it is inconvenient, even if you have to dodge snow banks, even if the temps are in the single digits, even if it all around SUCKS! AND tomorrow I am being Ms. BRAVE and waking up at the crack of dawn to do my long run of 10M all before work - and g... Tue, 11 Feb 2014 18:37:48 EST Marathon Training WK4 - IN Training Shirt TOO Last week's running went well, I went back to my usual schedule and the weather was actually fairly decent for my long run on Saturday. Friday night though I came down with some sort of cold symptoms which made for a dismal aftermath on Saturday's run. I ended up taking DayQuil for most of the day which made me woozy but I still did it! The only thing that I did not do which was really disappointing is that I did not get my sorry butt to the gym on Sunday for my cross training day. I have... Wed, 5 Feb 2014 16:21:06 EST Marathon Training WK2 & WK3 - DONE - Getting Back on Track I am a week behind on my tracking here but I have been plugging along with my marathon training. I was out of town for 3 days earlier this week for job related stuff which threw my healthy eating off track big time but not necessarily my workouts. Even though I am putting in my scheduled runs, I am not feels so fantastic because I am still heavier than I was last year during training time. I really need to buckle down on my nutrition and keep it consistent. Of course that sounds easier th... Sun, 26 Jan 2014 13:36:55 EST Marathon Training WK1 DONE - And I Feel Better for IT! Can I just say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE having a training plan. It felt SO good this week to actually put effort into my workouts knowing that I have a marathon scheduled and ready to go. I haven't yet clicked the button to sign up but I will do so before the price increases by 1/15. Not only have my workouts been on track but my nutrition has fallen in line as a result as well. I know sometimes people have trouble eating right during training but sometimes I am the opposite because I gene... Mon, 13 Jan 2014 18:54:49 EST I'm Starving! This week's goals... Man, this whole "eating the right thing thang" has me STARVING! I know what Sparkers will say...I'm not eating enough etc. etc. etc. Fact is this - my body has gotten accustomed to eating absolute CRAP over the last um 4 weeks or so and that crap is high in calories and when you reduce those calories, guess what you "feel hungry." I am not depleting my body of nutrients or even close to starvation mode by any means but it IS all about the deficit no matter what you wanna believe...powerful... Tue, 7 Jan 2014 13:42:05 EST December Goals - Coming Clean/Moving Forward to 2014 I hate when I do that thing in which I set really great goals and expectations for the month only to give a half-hearted attempt. I start the month out strong but then somewhere in the middle I start falling off. But the worst part is that I never come clean and come back and actual note the progress I made or didn't make. It makes me feel like a big ol'phony. So I figured I would come back and fess up.

2014 has started off on the right foot. I feel very motivated. I looked a... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 13:39:40 EST 2014 Here I Come! PLUS 2013 Year in Review. I do not think that I have every been so excited to FINISH and end a year and start out with a clean slate as I am today. I think I probably have the same infectious attitude as most people do on New Year's beginnings, which is frankly very exciting. Each year I pick a word that I hope and perhaps will foreshadow what the new year will possibly bring. For 2013 that word for me was GROWTH. And well...I had some of that...

GROWTH could mean many many things and for the ... Tue, 31 Dec 2013 18:46:38 EST December Goals - UPDATE WK 2 Well at the very least I am keeping up with my weekly updates which is very impressive. I am starting to get in the Christmas spirit finally and things are chugging along. Still no shopping done at all but I plan to do that on Saturday. Last week after our office Christmas party, my eating became disastrous and I pretty much gorged myself until Monday. All of this lead me to feeling pretty d@mn bloated and terrible, but I am happy to report that I am back on track and fighting hard to stay... Wed, 18 Dec 2013 10:02:22 EST December Goals - UPDATE WK1 Well I came back after week 1 which is good, which means I am starting to not feel so d@mn miserable, this is GOOD! Since last time, DH has received two job offers, one of which he is negotiating but the $$ of course if the huge deciding factor. I have been starting to get in the Christmas spirit but I have to tell you that it is all because I have not bought any gifts yet for the holiday and I won't until at least the 20th. Right now it is all about enjoying Christmas lights, etc. vs. sho... Wed, 11 Dec 2013 14:35:56 EST December Goals... First and foremost I GOTTA snap out of this funk I am seriously in!

UGH!

This time of the year is annually a tough time for me no matter what anyway but this year I think that I am downright depressed. Thanksgiving was good, but I almost felt that I was just happy to get through it. I woke up this morning at a 5 day eating binge at the highest weight I have been in probably a good year. So not good. I have to snap out of this and my whining from a couple of weeks ago ... Mon, 2 Dec 2013 11:49:18 EST In Need of Spark - NOW More Than Ever... I was once I weekly blogger, always blogging about something and always motivated on the road to wellness. Well, I have fallen off of that a bit, I still eat fairly clean most times, my weight is pretty stable so this is not one of those - I gained X amount of pounds back and now must begin Spark to get back in shape blogs. In fact, most of what I have to share really isn't that health related except for the fact that I see the positive benefits of being active here and having goals nutriti... Wed, 20 Nov 2013 09:56:42 EST Wicked Half Marathon - PR...booyah! This race took place this past Saturday in Salem MA and even though I PR'd, it took me forever to write this blog!

Well this race from the very start seems to go my way, big time. The night before the race DH surprised me with a Priceline hotel reservation to stay in Peabody, MA so that I did not have to wake up at some ungodly hour to travel on race day. There was lots of traffic heading through Boston the night before the race but it was so lovely to have alone time to prepare,... Race start for this half marathon was at 9AM. Accompanying me as always was my always faithful sidekick and partner in crime, my mom - AKA The Evil Coach Villainess. WOW, I just looked at my Sparkpage today and realized that I have not written a Sparkblog since July, I skipped the entire month of August. Hmmmmm, disappointing. I mean I know that there are plenty of active Sparkers out there that never blog and that is their MO which is fine, but for me it is a strong indication that I have lost my Spark. Truthfully, that is what's up. Reflecting back over previous years - cannot believe that I even go that far back on this website, I kind of go throug... Fri, 6 Sep 2013 10:22:04 EST Jamestown Half Marathon - I did the RIGHT thing! Well, if you check back to my previous blog you would understand that I was torn about this race. I knew that July was a bad time to do a race of half marathon distance at all AND it happened to be a race that my co-worker, really my friend - who I will henceforth call Ms. Newbie, wanted to do as this was her first half marathon.

So, Sparkland provided some solid advice. The advice was to pace my friend and just enjoy the experience. But then I asked some other people around m... Wed, 17 Jul 2013 18:18:30 EST HM in JULY?!?! no bueno. NO I haven't actually done this race yet, no I am not here to write a race report detailing this adventure in absurdity. NOPE, this race is coming atcha this Saturday, 7/13/13. What a dumb @ss idea is all I need to say about this. Okay so it has officially been a heat wave here in Rhode Island and I am dying out there in these streets trying to plug in my piddly little runs. But Saturday was the worst yet, 6 miles. YUP, 6 miles in 90 degrees, no bueno! AND I woke up early to get it done... Mon, 8 Jul 2013 16:44:19 EST Been Quiet for SO Long! Kind of dramatic title and introduction into this but I have been rather quiet around these parts lately. I have not blogged about anything at all since Memorial Day. I have been checking in with Sparkfriends and spinning the wheel but beyond that not much else. Well, I have to tell ya there is no real big revelation to share at all, I have just been really really busy. I have not trained at all for triathlons this year. Not one swim, not one training bike ride. This makes me sad but I... Wed, 26 Jun 2013 11:35:40 EST 5K - DS#1 is TOTALLY a BAD SPORT!...and it's all my fault... Where do I start? Well I perhaps I should provide a bit of background for what would otherwise seem like a *harsh* statement to make about my beloved first born son. You see, my boys, my two children are extremely competitive, have always been so really and some would even go so far to say that they suffer from a bit of um...."inflated ego syndrome" as most kids do really now-a-days (or so I would like to think when I rationale their bad behavior). Anyhow, it started out for both of my chi... Sat, 25 May 2013 20:34:16 EST Long Island Marathon - My FIRST MARATHON!!! This blog has been a long time in the making. As of two minutes ago I just completed my last 2 mile run before the big day. This is it. No more running until then. I hope I am ready but I cannot say 100% that I am. I said that I would LOVE tapering, well I lied, I don't, ya know why, it makes you doubt yourself since you are not actually running the race distance.... Sat, 4 May 2013 09:00:05 EST MARATHON WK16 - Feels SO Good Last week was week 16 of 18 weeks of marathon training and it feels so good! I was seriously getting to my breaking point with the crap loads of mileage and scrambling to fit in runs that lasted for hours, and just when I thought I could not possibly take it anymore...ahhhhhh, taper time! I almost felt like I had an actual LIFE this past Saturday morning when I got to sleep in until 8AM and NOT have to run at all. Loving it! Although tapering always makes you feel weird and makes you ques... Mon, 22 Apr 2013 18:58:08 EST MARATHON Training WK14 & WK15 - The case of the niggles... What a funny word niggle is right? I read that word in one of my running books - can't quite remember which one but lately this word pops into my head frequently. This marathon journey has been a long one seriously and I am inching closer and closer to my actual race. In fact, this Saturday was my LAST 20 mile training run...can I get a woohoo! I was so ready to be done with it and now I am, bring on the taper.

Anyhow, back to this niggle subject. Ever since I started training... Sun, 14 Apr 2013 17:31:38 EST MARATHON Training WK13 - This marathon IS happening! I finally felt back in the training game during my runs last week. It has still been hectic and crazy in my personal life with this house purchase business but I seriously ended last week with the distinct feeling that this was actually going to happen and with that burden lifted I also resolved myself to the fact that this marathon was actually happening too. Then the spring weather descended upon Rhode Island and the wonderful realization that running is actually a FUN pastime came about.... I am still feeling stressed mainly because of the pending purchase of my potential new home. Such an unsettling feeling! Anyhow, you see - here I go, this blog is supp... Sun, 17 Mar 2013 18:09:55 EST MARATHON Training WK9 - Plan Deviation It was a whirlwind training week last week for marathon training. Because of my unscheduled 20 mile run, I was at least smart enough to scale back my training week to accommodate the longer run than expected. It all turned out okay and I am finally starting to not dread this marathon training process or the actual marathon itself.

Here are the stats...

Monday - rest
Tuesday - 5M run outside, 44 minutes
Wednesday - 4M treadmill run, 33:20
Thursday - res...
