Some good, some not so good.

First for the good! I have been marching right along my plan with little deviation from the path. Weight loss has been slow but ongoing. It looks like I was around 235ish the last time I posted in February but now I'm at 218 and still losing, just slowly. In April I jumped back on my bicycle and started riding in e... Wed, 16 Jul 2014 14:08:05 EST Whoa! It's been too long between these posts! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5616009 I have just been cruising along and kind of left the blog posts off to the side. I really need to try to be more frequent in my posting if for nothing else having some kind of documentation of the journey from fat to fit.

Some updates:

Weight loss
As of last week I think, I have officially lost 60lbs since October of last year. A little over four months. That is amazing to me, but the hard part has just begun. As I lose more I can tell that its becoming harder to sh... Wed, 5 Feb 2014 14:16:35 EST Update plus a little on motivation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5589228 Today I'm home from work recovering from a minor hernia surgery I had done yesterday. I was initially apprehensive about getting this fixed now, because I felt it would throw a monkey wrench into my overall get healthy plans, but I came to the realization that getting it repaired now is actually one step in the direction of being healthy without future pain. This hernia did not bother me at all until I started to do push-ups, planks and try to do pull-ups a month or so ago. Those are activiti... I have a lot of catch up work to do today for "The Man". I'm an instructional designer and create online courseware. I have a new course launching next week and promised to have it ready for initial reviews tomorrow. Damn procrastination! So,looks like no fun for Don today :-(

Anyhow, its been really cold, snowy and nasty the past few days, but yesterday as the snows were beginni... Sun, 5 Jan 2014 11:52:25 EST My weight loss habits and tricks so far. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5581850 I haven't posted on my blog for a little while, so be prepared this could be a long one. I have had a few friends ask me how I have lost so much weight, so I figured I'd document it here. Some of this may be redundant from my other earlier posts but I wrote this for another blog post for a friend.

2013 kind of sucked for me and I feel 2014 will be a significantly different year, and I'll explain why. Please forgive my wordiness.
Over the years I have yo-yo'd all over the place... Sat, 4 Jan 2014 12:03:34 EST Down 40lbs this week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5557661 My official (to me) weigh-in day is not until next Monday but I did weigh myself this past Monday and I have unofficially lost 40lbs since the beginning of this journey in October. I know that a lot of people will say that is too much too fast but I have slowed considerably over the past few weeks and am only losing about 3-4lbs each of those weeks.

I feel like I am adjusting really well to my changes in diet and enjoying the healthy foods that have replaced the old poor choices th... Thu, 5 Dec 2013 13:50:06 EST Seeing 50's now!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5551067 That is... I broke into the 250's on the bathroom scale!!! A few weeks ago I posted that I was seeing 60's and Bill60 said to hurry up and see 250's. Well it has happened and I hope to be out of this segment and into the 240's soon. I'm trying to not let the holidays thwart my efforts as well!

It's been pretty hectic again at work the past few weeks and evenings seem to have been busier than most with club meetings and stuff on many weeknights. Bike riding is almost totally out of ... Tue, 26 Nov 2013 22:11:32 EST Seeing 60's http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5533859 Seeing 60's doesn't mean the decade I was born, or the wild hippy days either! It means that this morning when I got on the scale I'm now seeing 260's. Just a month ago I was feeling really crappy, my knees were always hurting, my few jeans and dress pants that I own in my "fat" size could barely be buttoned or snapped and almost every shirt that I owned was either uncomfortably tight or it was large enough to make a tent from. I knew that I had to make some changes because all of this was br... Wed, 6 Nov 2013 11:30:55 EST "Mike, what day is it?" That's right, it's hump day!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5527140 Good morning and welcome to the middle of the week. I'm just going to make a short entry here this morning as I'm at work and need to get started. However, on the way in to the office this morning I was listening to the latest Spark People Radio with Lily and Karen. I listen to podcasts almost every morning during my commute from Southern Maryland to just south of Baltimore. It's a little over an hour drive and listening to podcasts about photography or my other varied interests whiles the ti... Wed, 30 Oct 2013 07:36:39 EST Two Weeks in http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5525325 Well, today marks two weeks since I started to begin making changes. I visited the good doctor on Oct. 14th and weighed in at 293. My scale here at the house is kind of erratic in that it takes forever to actually decide on a weight and that doesn't seem consistent, so I'm curious to see what I weigh-in today. According to my scale here I should be around 278 on the doc's scale today. That would mean a 15lb loss in two weeks. Cross my fingers.

I got rid of most of the soreness in... Mon, 28 Oct 2013 09:18:24 EST Quick Monday Night Post - Ouch! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5519843 I planned on my next posting to be about riding bikes and what I love about cycling.... but I'll save that for when I have some more time. I'm just going to be quick here this evening before I get off to bed.

For several weeks now I have had an ache in my left Achilles perhaps even further up into my calf muscle. I'm not really sure if its actually the Achilles tendon that is inflamed or just my calf muscle itself. Anyhow, the more activity I put to it, the worse it hurts. Cycling... Mon, 21 Oct 2013 22:43:05 EST Sunday Morning - Optimism for health and well being http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5518499

Do you have a sunny disposition, or do you sometimes think like Debbie Downer?
This morning I woke to a sunny Sunday morning and slipped downstairs to make a healthy breakfast and catch some news before getting into my day. It just so happened that I turned on CBS Sunday Morning program and the news vignette playing was the "Science of Survival"; what makes us resilient to disaster or hardship.

In a... Sun, 20 Oct 2013 12:29:36 EST My First Bog Entry - Climbing back on the wagon http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5518050 The past several days I have spent a good deal of time just re-acquainting myself with the SP website, nutrition and fitness trackers and most of the other features that I have never even looked at over the past few years that I have been registered on this website. Yes, you read that correct. It's pretty pathetic that someone would register for a site like this and then rarely if ever visit and use it. Well, I'm a prime example. But, hold it. I'm allowed a few setbacks right? I'm back again... Sat, 19 Oct 2013 21:15:06 EST
