CRITCHFIELD1's SparkPeople Blog CRITCHFIELD1's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Who's Counting on me to be my Healthiest While working with my coaching program this morning my motivational picture caused me to stop and ponder.

I don't have a spouse anymore who depends upon me, son and family are across the nation living their own lives and are not dependent upon me. Who is counting on me? That's a good question.

I do have people that have stated they look up to me. Yeh, I'm still pondering their statement. I... Wed, 26 Jun 2013 08:32:51 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ When the Goin' Gets Tough the Tough Hang in There Recently I am experiencing a little bout with my body and health. I had made some commitments which were easy enough to handle, but then a few wrenches got thrown into the works. Being one who doesn't take her commitments lightly, I fulfilled my commitments as well as taking care of the little emergencies that mosied their way into my life.

These are temporary set-backs and do not have to alter the ... Tue, 18 Jun 2013 09:08:59 EST UPWARD AND ONWARD ~ Moderation and Those Trigger Foods I learned today that “all things in moderation" does not always work for some people like me. In an article I read today listed in my Spark Coach Program, “How a 'Bad Food' Attitude Can Backfire- Make Peace with Your Cravings to Drop More Pounds”, Megan Coatley, Behavior Expert, wrote: “…Sweets, salts and alcohol all cause biological reactions in the body that are hard to ignore. And, if you’re someone who responds strongly to these reactions, even one small bite can trigger you to continu... Mon, 10 Jun 2013 12:31:19 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Weight Loss not a Priority Today on my coaching program it was discussed about the stress that the scale can bring while straining toward weight loss. There was a time in life where weight loss for me was a high priority and, yes, it created strain and stress in my life. There are many people who have been challenged with greater scale goals than I, yet for my small frame 194+ lbs on top of the serious problems with my back and neck seemed impossible to overcome.

Remember in another Blog I stated that atti... Mon, 3 Jun 2013 10:19:46 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ The Goal Continues There can be so many journeys in life. I bet you can name off a few that you have labored through and some you have danced through. I don't know about your journeys and how you tackled them, but there have been some journeys I sang all the way through; they were fun and enjoyable and came to a natural end.

Attitude is 90% of the battle. To win the battle in attitude, I am learning that I absolutely must put a song in my heart and a smile on my face. I have heard it said that la... Sat, 1 Jun 2013 12:09:46 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Avoiding Sabotage Where I go to church we have some of the best cooks! I knew someone had the talent because cooking is not my strongest forte. Every week there is a family meal on Wednesday and mouth watering foods displayed on the long table of the Fellowship Hall. The desserts are eye-popping with aromas that tantalize some of the strongest of wills.

When confronted with situations such as these; what's a gal to do (or fella)? Chocolate, not just any ol' chocolate, makes me weak at the knees.... Fri, 24 May 2013 18:41:35 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Lessons and Goals Inspired and intrigued by the challenges SparkPeople has proposed to me through the coaching program I am moving onward. I have learned I do not have to do it all at once and even with the diseases and condition of my body I can "DO" and should. I feel better and more alive. There really are no limits to a body in motion; we can move on even though it may be one small step at a time.

I have learned to listen to my body and I am learning to pay attention to it so I may continue i... Tue, 21 May 2013 09:13:03 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Little Steps at a Time Learning to pace myself and avoiding the temptation to over-do on a project is a challenging journey for me. It is one I find myself not fully successful at as yet. I have not given up and I will continue to pursue a healthy balance. In fact, I have placed a timer in the one room I tend to have my little mishaps in. I am learning that the only time I truly fail is the one in which I would choose to quit trying. Since I continue to pick myself up and move forward, I am still in the runnin... Sun, 19 May 2013 20:22:32 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Virtual Trek in Australia In this virtual jaunt we have some lovely accommodations. I'm writing my blog from what I call a sunny veranda, a tall cool glass of mint tea by my side, (with an umbrella of course and a sprig of fresh mint for garnish), and reclining with my laptop propped up.

Varied were our excursions today consisting of a leisurely walk through Perth, strolling on the beach, swimming and sunbathing with the sea lions, not to mention swimming with the dolphins and visiting the penguins. Don'... Sun, 12 May 2013 15:47:10 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Plateauing a little on that upward swing It's been a busy week with acute pain and I'm trying to follow the doctor's orders, so that means the exercise gets cut back to light stretching. On the up-swing, I've not been retiring to bed and I am continuing to move around. Sparkpeople has been instrumental in this positive mode.

Tracking my stress level in Stress Busters is helping me discover where my stressors are. I am reminded of something I've heard termed as The Serenity Prayer where it states changing the things I c... Sat, 11 May 2013 22:20:08 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Common Excuses to Avoid Exercise I guess my most common excuse would be, "I just don't feel like taking the time to do it today." Being disabled in the fashion I am doesn't mean I'm not busy. Often I have too many things on my plate. I'm involved in three studies, two of which I teach. I mentor three women and I'm involved in our Missions Team and play an active part in it. Every once in awhile like tonight I have a short talk that took two weeks of study and then two days to condense it to fit the time I am speaking. <... Fri, 10 May 2013 15:55:57 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ In Motion I moved all day yesterday. I was energized enough to start work in a room that I felt depressed every time I looked at it. It is what I call my multipurpose room. I sorted out old files, shredded old documents, pulled books from my book cases that I haven't referred to in a couple of years, and gave away those things that I thought, "One day I'll hem this or that, take this or that in, etc."

I did learn something from all that activity. Pay more attention to the doctor's orders... Tue, 7 May 2013 13:41:41 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Moving out of the Sick Bed Stomach bugs and Fibromyalgia can be buggers together. I can choose to let it take me down, or I can choose to be tough as nails with it. I do find though, that making that happy medium is usually the best choice. Let the body regain strength and composure at a moderate pace so I don't aggravate all the other little challenges my body brings to bear.

Sparkdom helps me make the right choices. I'm learning to take the suggestions and helps in a manner that they are guides and n... Mon, 6 May 2013 15:00:11 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Healthy bound I am so excited to have found some teams for people challenged by pain and physical limitations! There are great people in SparkPeople land. I know that I will benefit from the teams I have joined and I so hope they will benefit from me and my journey. Thanks for all the great comments and making me feel welcome!

My goal today was to eat vegetable and fruits. This picture from Sparks is my motivation... Tue, 30 Apr 2013 22:56:28 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD Ideas for myself that require very little effort.... I hate to cook

1. Mon, 29 Apr 2013 20:02:20 EST ONWARD AND UPWARD ~ Sill on the Move Life on the move is challenging for many people world wide. I am inspired by people who take on that challenge and succeed. There are many who suffer great pain on a daily basis and yet find ways to overcome and succeed. I am grateful to these over-comers for the inspiration they give me on my journey.

Have you heard of people loving others to death? We all have well meaning family and friends that love us so much they don't want to see us in pain, go hungry, and a myriad of ot... Wed, 24 Apr 2013 21:57:41 EST ON THE MOVE - UPWARD AND ONWARD Some of us ladies got together today to make 270+ meatballs for a student event coming up. We mixed together 20 lbs. of hamburger; I lost count of the pounds of sausage and other ingredients. There was lots of moving going on in that kitchen as we sang old songs, laughed and traded work stations from mixing, rolling the meatballs, cleaning, etc.

It felt good to be in motion in a way that not only benefited me, but also some college students.

Those students are going t... Tue, 23 Apr 2013 18:30:42 EST CONTINUING ONWARD AND UPWARD I made the blunder that many do when beginning exercise. I overdid, but being the stubborn mule I am I continued to go to a rally that was going to be challenging at best. All those wonderful little physical challenges that wake with me each morning and lay down with me in bed each night decided to have a party. My body decided to let me know there are limits of which it will not go beyond.

I had fun though, but for the meantime, this little gal will cool her heels and check tom... Sun, 21 Apr 2013 14:25:11 EST S.M.A.R.T. LIVING I want to be more flexible, strengthen my knees and build endurance so I can move through my day to be more independent and be able to get 15 min. of weeding in my flower bed done in a day.

I believe this is attainable and realistic. It is something I should reasonably be able to accomplish with stretching exercises and the seated exercises I have chosen for my daily routines.

I continue to move ONWARD AND UPWARD. Wed, 17 Apr 2013 16:11:05 EST STILL MOVING FOR LIFE I certainly didn't think I could do it today, but I did! I did my stretches, my warm ups and the modified exercises. To the average onlooker my little routine would seem easy and mundane. In my healthy days it would have looked to me that way too. Today I congratulate myself and say WELL DONE! I am pleased with my achievements today. I still find it impossible to get all my nutrients in, especially my protein, but I will find a way and I will improve in that area. All in all, I give my... Tue, 16 Apr 2013 21:29:50 EST MOVING FOR LIFE CONTINUES Oh Boy! The rain stopped this morning and the temperature was warm enough that I was allow to go out. My friend and I went walking together. She's my little stabilizer so when I'm off balance she makes sure I don't fall. FRIENDS ARE GREAT. We all need them. What is the saying? I think it goes something like, "Friends are the flowers in the garden of life." Well, if it doesn't say that it should. This is what my friends are to me. They are fragrant flowers in my life.

Our ... Mon, 15 Apr 2013 21:21:03 EST UPWARD AND ONWARD I'm just about done with my day. I have eaten healthy and I have exercised a little bit more than yesterday. Usually when I begin to exercise I try to do too much and too quickly. This time I have chosen to be good to myself; move a little more slowly, more deliberately, pain attention to my pain level, and pace myself. We all have different limits and I'm finally listening to mine. Fri, 12 Apr 2013 20:01:52 EST Moving for Life THE DIFFICULTY: When doctors report complications that are unrelenting and growing worse, I ask what are my options will physical therapy help. There are not options and physical therapy will make it worse.

THE QUESTION: Do I now choose to roll over and play dead? Ha! Me?! Not this girl, that is not an option for me. I've never been a quitter. There are times I have stepped back a few paces and there are times immobility was forced on me, but I must move, I must interact wi... Wed, 10 Apr 2013 17:36:10 EST
