COURTNEYANNEMT's SparkPeople Blog COURTNEYANNEMT's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community No sugar for a week Trying to get off the sugar rush I' be been on for weeks' Sat, 15 Feb 2014 22:27:06 EST 3 good things 1. Recharging
2. Working on the doctorate
3. Checking in with eating/exercise goals Tue, 10 Sep 2013 21:25:33 EST To me health means To me health means being active and confident in my ability to work on my goals Thu, 5 Sep 2013 18:21:02 EST Ski Season Challenge We are a skiing family and last week I noticed it was a big challenge to eat healthy coming off the hill. I plan healthy dinners and use the crock pot, but it's the après ski beer, wine, and snacks that get to me. My plan for tonight is to eat some protein before skiing, allow for 1-2 drinks and focus on hydrating. Wed, 9 Jan 2013 06:55:50 EST Exercise helps The motivational strategy that helps is having a long exercise session outside. This past week, I did a long uphill ski and felt like I could go forever. I need that long quiet time outside not only for my body, but for my spirit. It's almost as if the fresh air goes directly in my chest and the weight (physical, emotional) I carry with me is lifted. Wed, 2 Jan 2013 07:28:13 EST Believing that I could have an inspirational story Right now, my story is not inspirational in the least. I have actually gained since joining spark people. I'm taking this as a (very) slow learning curve and don't think it's a waste of time. I've learned that I don't have anything wrong with me (thyroid, hormones, etc); I simply eat too much. If I want to lose weight, tracking my food intake is essential. I exercise a lot, but not as much when I eat poorly. Tracking my exercise minutes has shown me this. It's the beginning of the year... Sat, 29 Dec 2012 07:18:24 EST Health goal Working with stress through the holiday. Each present should make a statement, not simply frantically checking off a list. Taking time for quiet evenings and smiling at my family. Wed, 19 Dec 2012 07:05:08 EST Let's skip it until after the holidays After returning from a trip where my mom gained some weight, and my own struggle to keep up during the holidays, this idea sounded very enticing. I realize now that this attitude is not going to help things, and may open the door to a binge. Instead, I'll start off the day with 10 minutes of exercise, more for motivation. I'll look at what my day brings, and try and adjust. Last night at a party, I did well to fill the plate half way with salad, but find myself regretting the pie. Today, ... Thu, 13 Dec 2012 08:25:39 EST Not what I expected Today's Sparkcoach video had us visualize the future 10 years from now. While it did not help my swimming program (I emailed my coach and said I would not be there), it did give perspective. My daughter has a minor surgery today, but I want to be here if she is scared, concerned, or just simply to be there. See, I realized that in 10 years, she is no longer going to be living with us, but out on her own, constructing her adult life. I'm grateful to spark people for bringing that into focus... Tue, 4 Dec 2012 07:18:09 EST Adventures in cooking I'm not a good cook. The spark people is helping me explore cooking more, but I have yet to find that great go to meal. Any and all (easy) suggestions will be tried as part of the adventure. Sun, 25 Nov 2012 09:19:03 EST Gearing up to swim Growing up, I was always into swimming. As I got older, it became more of an issue of scheduling and pool time. My daughter recently started swimming. I'm going to use her as inspiration to get back into the pool. Each time I swim, I'm reminded that this is truly my sport. Fri, 23 Nov 2012 09:17:23 EST Trying moderation I really need to slow down with work. I can accomplish this by taking a day off this week. Mon, 12 Nov 2012 07:55:05 EST Afraid of the scale I'll admit it, I'm afraid of the scale. Whether the number goes up or down, I have this long conversation in my head. I try to look at it as simple feedback, but it feels like it steers my day, so I have been mostly avoiding it. I recognize this and will do it.....tomorrow? Tue, 6 Nov 2012 06:59:19 EST Watching changes as I wake up I usually feel pretty positive when I wake up, but not today. I woke up tired and not feeling so good. I do a lot of work with mindfulness, so I am observing that by reading others blogs, posting to (hopefully) help someone else out, and connecting with others to gain support, I am starting to feel better. I feel ready to exercise and take care of myself by eating good, healthy food. Overall, I feel the spark! Fri, 2 Nov 2012 07:21:47 EST Why I'm mindful about getting healthy About 4 years ago I lost weight by learning how to eat healthier. I grew up in a household where bags of candy were hidden around the house, and I was a very good finder!! This worked and I loved how it felt, however, I did not know how to handle it when the scale crept then leaped back up. I tried the crazy diets that dropped 8 pounds, then regained 10 and even went back to my original weight loss plan....and gained weight!! Now it's about diet, exercise, and managing my mind and emotions... Thu, 25 Oct 2012 07:02:17 EST How do you cruise the blogs? Now that I'm starting to get the community thing, I don't quite understand how to browse through the blogs or engage with people who have helped with their comments...... Wed, 17 Oct 2012 07:32:44 EST Feeling healthier Last week was a week full of stress. In the past, this would have meant a date with Oreos, making cookies, or Ben and Jerry's. This weekend, it was asking, nay insisting on help and getting added rest. I am now ready to take on the new week. Mon, 15 Oct 2012 07:01:58 EST Who are you people and what are you doing here?! So, I went to follow my plan and there are people who responded to my blog. It's nice, just a little confusing. Why would people check out my blog when I'm just kind of babbling? Should I write something more meaningful? More thoughtful? I'm still trying to figure this stuff out. I'm supposed to be blogging about nutrition. I think the big shift for me is getting rid of the salad bowl. I tend to serve the meal on one plate and the salad as an extra meal. I'll let you know how it goes. Tue, 9 Oct 2012 06:47:47 EST Trying something new I know nothing about blogging and was curious about this. This post is just a step onto the diving board to see what it feels like......not too strange. Sat, 6 Oct 2012 08:02:25 EST
