I am getting a handle on a healthier diet and some exercising some exercising at home. Though I think I was more consistent with everything when I was going to the gym regularly. When exercising at home, I get side tracked or find some excuse not to unfortunately. I know I feel better when I am going to the gym, and controlling the carbs. My physical activity is certainly better during those times. Sure day to day I d... Thu, 21 Aug 2014 12:23:58 EST Should I start fresh with a new account? I keep going up and down with my weight loss progress. I am wondering if I should scrap this one and start all over again. It gets really depressing seeing how I would do really good then slip back to old habits. Maybe a clean slate is what I really need to get things going again.

Opinions? Sun, 1 Jun 2014 18:51:52 EST Getting Back to Reducing Carbs Sometimes I just want to kick myself for getting away from the carb control way of eating. When I am eating the low carb way, I am less sluggish and feel better physically. Five days into this and I am down 6 lbs. I know some of it is water weight but, I feel better. I guess because I have done this before, the induction phase is easier. I have also been walking a half hour daily & hope to increase that soon. It feels nice having the energy to walk that half hour.

Til Next time... Sat, 22 Feb 2014 07:37:48 EST Hanging in there this time In August I restarted my journey to better health and it seems to be sticking. I am down almost 20 lbs and feeling great! I was even able to do well on our vacation to Wyoming earlier this month. I tried to make healthy food choices and got a bit of walking in on our visit to The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone! Sun, 29 Sep 2013 08:46:32 EST Closing in on the 40 lb loss mark! Just 2 lbs to go! When I first started over I weighed in a 253, that was just 2 lbs below my all-time highest weight. I am now down to 215!

What a difference limiting the "junk", eating healthier, drinking my water and getting in my workouts everyday makes! I feel so much better and hardly ever have that "sluggish" feeling! I might just reach that goal I set for the end of June! All my pants are starting to get so loose!

9

Til Next Time!
<... Fri, 3 May 2013 23:25:28 EST Target date set for my return to ONEderland I have set June 25th for my target for my return to onederland. That gives me 2 months to lose 18 lbs. Can I do it? I believe that I can.

If I lose 2 lbs./week I will meet that goal. I have become more aggressive with my workouts and am tracking my calorie intake, watching my sodium/ sugar/carb intake closer. Drinking lots of water too and being more consistent taking a multi-vitamin!

Stay Tuned!! Wed, 24 Apr 2013 16:19:15 EST Working outside is much more comfortable! This weekend I worked outside with my husband and I didn't get the achy ankles, knees and feet that I usually do! One thing I noticed is that when I walked across the garden, I didn't feel the strain in my "bad" leg that I have in past year. I call that progress!! Mon, 18 Mar 2013 18:52:36 EST 30 lb. loss mark reached After staying at the same weight for a week or so, I finally reached the 30 lb. loss mark!! I know part of it was due to a trip to Nashville and not sticking to my eating plan as strictly as I normally do but, I got in alot of exercise with a bit of walking.

I think I will be able to do more in the garden and yard this spring without tiring out so easily.

Tue, 26 Feb 2013 14:28:19 EST 3 lbs shy of the 30 lb loss mark! I am so excited. I am almost back to my weight that I was when my husband and I got married back in 1986 so, I am feeling a bit like I am back to even, so to speak.

On our wedding day I weighed 225, granted that is still way over weight but I feel good about my success so far. I would like to add that a couple of years into our marriage I dropped 60 lbs in less than a year. I was much younger then and it was easier but, I did it and feel I am capable of doing it once again. I cu... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 23:54:21 EST 25 lbs lighter since July Back in July is when I really started working on getting the weight off. I was at that time at a weight of 253 which was within 2 pounds of my heaviest weight of 255. I lost 10-15 lbs or so then it would go up and down and I also plateaued a bit.

Since late December I have been trying to step it up with watching what I eat(i.e. limiting the nasty bad carbs), drinking more water & increasing my exercise. I am down another 10 since December 19th, that brings my total loss since July ... Tue, 22 Jan 2013 17:42:38 EST One month down Things are going well and I am starting to feel a difference. I feel alot better physically. I have more stamina for workouts and also when doing normal chores. I am not tiring out as easily. I think that I will stick with it this time.

December 19, 2012

January 18, 2013 Sat, 19 Jan 2013 23:58:10 EST Flipping That Switch in My Head! As I often do, I am starting this restart off strong, I think the only difference is my total commitment to becoming healthy again. I have been even trying to come up with ways to cut the fat and calories in recipes. I think there is always things we can do to make our favorite recipes healthier. Also there is small things that I can do to get more exercise. I have been making it a habit of parking further back in the parking lot of the store. My hope is that it will stay this way and that... Mon, 7 Jan 2013 04:51:45 EST I Can Do This! Over the years I have tried getting the weight off but I seem to gain and lose the same 10-20 lbs over and over again. I need to get out of that vicious cycle.

The main thing for me is going to be to stay motivated in other words, consistency & not to be going strong for a couple weeks and then have it fizzle and go back to old self-defeating habits. I know I have the support of my family & that really helps.

I realize my husband asking how much I lost this week, or ha... Wed, 26 Dec 2012 10:38:11 EST Day 1 of my 2013 goals complete This year I have lost over 20 lbs. though I haven't stuck to the weight loss efforts as much as I should have and I still have a long way to go. My motto for this coming year is A New Beginning.

This morning my husband and I took a half hour walk. I am getting more stamina now to walk at a good pace. We took our dog along with us. Zoey(A Chow/ Goldie mix) loves going too & she needs the exercise too, after all on her last vet check up she had hit 50 lbs.

I am including... Thu, 20 Dec 2012 00:18:26 EST Getting through the holiday season with little damage One of my major goals since Thanksgiving has been to do minimal snacking. Last night was a big test. My mother always has candies, cookies and snack mix. I limited myself to 1 piece of candy and 1 peanut butter cookie. I call that progress. Normally I would have sampled one of everything. LOL Sun, 16 Dec 2012 17:15:45 EST Sparking works!! My daily vists to to log my workouts and food has helped me so much. Since July 16th I am down 25 lbs!! I have more energy, less joint problems so am getting around much better!!

Thanks so much to SP and my sparker friends!! Mon, 15 Oct 2012 12:24:24 EST Time for a new goal! As of this morning's weigh in I am down just over 20 lbs! 224

Now time to start striving for a 40 lb total loss. I know what works for me as far as eating, carb control. By following the principles of the South Beach Diet coupled with regular exercise the pounds are starting to come off. Now to see if I can keep them off and stick with this.

Mon, 1 Oct 2012 09:13:42 EST Almost 20 lbs lighter Back in July I rededicated myself to getting healthier and 2 months and 4 days later I am 18 lbs lighter. I am hoping hoping by Monday's weigh in it will be a 20 lb. total loss.

9 Thu, 20 Sep 2012 14:52:25 EST Making good food choices has gotten easier These days I don't feel so deprived as I go through the process of getting my extra weight off. My portion control has become second nature as has opting for fresh fruits & vegetables along with lean meats etc. I also no longer feel like the carb addict I once was. Mon, 17 Sep 2012 09:05:54 EST Need to kick things up a notch! I pretty well have my eating and portions under control now I need to work on increasing my workouts some. I think maybe that will get the scale moving more. Mon, 10 Sep 2012 14:54:09 EST 13 lbs down since 7/16 I am happy with my progress and am feeling so much better and can feel a difference in my clothes. It is amazing what portion control coupled with workouts can do!!

332 Mon, 13 Aug 2012 08:39:13 EST Progress!! I have lost almost 10 lbs in the last couple of weeks. I feel so much better and more energetic! That energy will help me make progress with some decluttering I have been working on. Thu, 2 Aug 2012 11:44:52 EST Worked out 5 days/week 3 weeks straight!! I am so proud of myself for the consistency. It is so easy to try to find a reason/excuse not to work out but, when you hang in there you feel so good afterwards about the accomplishment. With making some dietary adjustments. I think I might see the scale start to move more.

Til Next Time
Barb Mon, 21 May 2012 11:12:15 EST So close to my first short term goal I started this journey on December 24th. Today is February 6th and I am down a total of 17 lbs. My energy level is rising, I think about something before mindlessly putting it into my mouth. Errands and eating out is no longer a big problem, I instinctively look for healthier choices. I do have one meal each week that I have anything I want within reason but it hasn't derailed me. Mon, 6 Feb 2012 13:55:01 EST Great start to 2012 I have really been making a strong effort to get the weight off this year. Though I am watching my carb intake, I wouldn't really say I'm on a low carb diet. I wouldn't say I am on a diet plan at all, I am simply making better food choices and exercising more.

I think making changes to my lifestyle will help me keep it going rather than being on a "diet." I feel that is where I have went wrong in the past. I have always had a weight problem as my family and friends are well aware ... Fri, 13 Jan 2012 17:41:39 EST What a difference a week makes!! :) I am one week into my current weight loss attempt and am down almost 4 lbs. My official weigh in isn't until tomorrow. I am feeling really optimistic and it has been relatively easy to make the changes to my meals. I have also been getting in 2 30 minute exercise sessions the last few days. I know that will really help move things along. Mon, 2 Jan 2012 11:07:55 EST I was reminded by a wonderful SIL I can do this!! A few nights ago I posted the link to my last blog entry to facebook and my SIL reminded me that a little more than 20 years ago she and I shared the success of weight loss and that we can share that success again! She is right.

Back in the late 80's I lost 70 lbs and was able to be active outdoors and do more than I can at the moment. Looking back on it, I remember doing what I could to lose that weight, I pushed myself and made myself control what I ate and ride a minimum of 5 mi... Fri, 30 Dec 2011 11:58:56 EST Getting started on my New Year's Resolution!! Yesterday both my husband and I started back on South Beach. We had started it awhile back but really didn't stay with it. I hope to this time, I know we both want to lose the extra pounds though he will reach the weight he would like to be at long before I do.

My mom gave me a cute outfit and It is a little snugger that I would like so, tomorrow I am going to put it on, have my hubby take a picture of me in it, then do the same once a month through my weight loss process.
... Wed, 28 Dec 2011 22:16:32 EST Feeling rejuvenated Lately I have just had this low energy no motivation feeling. Last weekend we left on a brief winter vacation to Pigeon Forge, TN. It seems to be just what I needed because I am now feeling more energetic and motivated to do things. I guess getting away was what I needed. Now we will see if it holds up and that I will get the things done I want to do. Sat, 24 Dec 2011 10:45:25 EST Low-Carb eating has gotten easier My husband is also tired of being in bad shape so he has joined me on my carb control lifestyle. It really takes all the guess work out of menu planning now that he is eating in the same manner that I am. We are also going to start walking together. I know with the walking I will need to start slow because of the foot and leg problems I tend to have. At the moment my primary exercise is my stationary bike, it puts less stress on my joints and problem areas. I think that as the weight starts c... Wed, 12 Oct 2011 13:40:48 EST 365 Fitness minutes away from my yearly goal I have been putting in more time on my stationary bike than I thought I would and I am so close to meeting my current goal. It looks like I need to adjust that number or at the rate I am exercising now I will go way over my yearly goal of 2160, as of my workout this morning, I am at 1795. I am on a roll with my exercise and am doing pretty good with my eating. I have really been working hard on my consistency and have lost 6 lbs since last Monday. Tue, 4 Oct 2011 21:48:11 EST Good weigh in today I am down 3.2 lbs. over my last weigh in. I call that progress. I did get a work out in yesterday morning and have already got today's workout in. My workouts for now is mainly my exercise bike, it is easier on my joints. I hope to soon start walking again soon.

Tue, 27 Sep 2011 11:15:23 EST Struggling with constistency This roller coaster I am currently on is so frustrating. I do good for a while then I falter and backslide to old eating habits. My schedule gets thrown off, I get sick, it seems it is always something. I have made some dietary changes and it has helped me becoming more active but there are aspects of this that is still a problem for me. The main issue is being consistent with my exercise I feel that if I could get that going I will be more successful with the whole process. I won't give up. ... Mon, 26 Sep 2011 12:54:36 EST Day 5 back on South Beach...feeling much better!! Today marks my 5th day back on South Beach Diet and I feel so much better and have been able to get more done throughout the day. I know I have said this before and always slipped back to my old ways. I guess the difference this time is that we recently went on vacation and seeing myself in the vacation photos left me feeling thoroughly disgusted with myself. I am already feeling less bloated and as of yesterday was down 5 lbs. I know I can do this, I just have to keep my commitment to going ... Sat, 9 Jul 2011 12:49:28 EST Trying again....Send positive thoughts my way!! It seems that my previous weight loss attempts have fizzled big time but I refuse to give up. Yesterday I started another attempt at trying to get all this weight off. A few years ago, I has moderate success with carb control so I am giving that a try again. I did see a rise in my energy level yesterday by avoiding certain carbs. We will see how it goes. I am determined to do it this time, I want to be more active and to be able to help my husband more outside. Though I do some things outsid... Wed, 6 Jul 2011 23:40:28 EST Survived our mini vacation with no damage done I didn't exactly watch what I ate but, I did do alot of walking and actually had a 2 lb loss this week. I was honestly expecting a gain. Fri, 27 May 2011 12:45:51 EST I am really enjoying my daily workouts It has been such a long time since my workouts hasn't seemed like such a chore. I look forward to getting on my stationary bike each morning and am gradually increasing the length of the workouts. Thu, 19 May 2011 08:16:33 EST Feeling like I am on a roll Working out so far has become a new habit for me and I feel I can keep it up. I know time will tell but, I am going to keep it up and I hope the day will come when I will feel guilty for not working out. I want it to become a big part of my life. I know it will be better for me in the long run. I have certainly already started feeling the benefits simply because it is helping me to be more productive in my day to day life. I am striving to make positive changes in all aspects of my life. <BR... Tue, 17 May 2011 17:45:04 EST 4 days and counting It has now been 4 straight days I have exercised and I feel great. I have also had more energy to do all the stuff around the house that before I had to really work up the energy to get done. I really like the way I am feeling and hope that it continues. I have also began tracking things and that should help me pinpoint my problem areas in my diet.

Mon, 16 May 2011 13:32:03 EST Consistent with exercise 3 days in a row. Exercise has always been my downfall when it comes to weight loss I will be doing good and then for whatever reason, miss a day. It is hard for me to get back in the groove of working out daily. My goal this time around is not to fall into that bad habit again. I know that being active is the key to keeping the scale moving along with good eating habits. We will see how it goes this time. Sun, 15 May 2011 18:26:07 EST Sparkin' again I just find myself being more consistent, more active and more aware of the kinds of foods I am putting in my mouth when I am checking in here at sparkpeople. The support here is unbelieveable. Sat, 14 May 2011 12:43:01 EST Back to what is tried and true, South Beach! At the beginning of last week I started back eating the South Beach way and wow what a difference. I am scratching and shaking my head for getting away from it to start with. It isn't like it is a difficult way of eating. I think it is just that I was LAZY!! I have more energy and the sluggishness is gone.

Yesterday I took a walk with the hubby and dog and it was so nice. I am working on picking up the pace and hope to be jogging or at least walk/jogging soon. I hope to one day b... Mon, 25 Oct 2010 15:20:01 EST Progress update Here it is almost October and I am about where I was in January. I have made progress since my last blog post in August. Although it has been a roller coaster ride with my weight going up and down. As of this morning, I am 16 lbs lighter than back in June when I started again & 9 lbs. lighter than I was in my last blog post on August 10th. I do know when I come to spark and track my food and nutrients and my exercise, I tend to do better.

Wed, 29 Sep 2010 12:50:58 EST Making some progress since recommitting Back in June I recommitted to getting back on track. It's been an up and down thing so far. Although the last couple weeks, I have been doing alot better. I am down 7 lbs since starting over in June. I "seem" to be getting into a groove. We will see if I can stick with it.

Til Next time...
Barb Tue, 10 Aug 2010 15:28:41 EST Here we go again.... I really thought these days were over with. When I decided to go the carb control way again back in January, I was doing well. Over the course of 2 months, I had dropped 25 lbs and was thrilled.

Back in March, I had a problem with my back, had to go back on my meds and that started the weight gain. Shortly following that, my depression which I have battled for years reared its ugly head and I had to go back on my meds and the weight continued to climb. I am now 15 lbs heavier than... Sun, 6 Jun 2010 13:32:38 EST Down 25 lbs. in 2 months! I recommitted myself to getting some weight off at beginning of January with a beginning weight of 220, this morning for my weekly weigh in, I was at 195. I am so thrilled with the results. For the most part it has been via carb controlled way of eating but, I do have little splurges so I don't feel deprived, it really does help to keep me on track. This past weeks splurge was going out for mexican and it was so good!! We did that on Friday night and Saturday morning I was right back on my u... Mon, 1 Mar 2010 16:16:22 EST Fell off the wagon again!!! I really don't have a good excuse for doing so either. It has just been pure laziness I guess, to many holiday goodies and mindless eating. So here I am again, attempting to stop the bleeding. I never learn!! UGH!! There I said it, claimed it and now it is time to move on.

I do have a plan though. I am going to make use of our Y membership, they remodeled and expanded recently and have some great new equipment. With my eating plan while I have done Slim-Fast in the past, I am not ... Thu, 7 Jan 2010 16:44:41 EST The good.... the bad... and the ugly! I have quite a mix in today's blog.

First the good--I went back to the orthopedic surgeon yesterday and I am healing as I should be. I can walk some without my boot as long as it isn't long distances, I can also drive again as long as it is a car with automatic transmission.

The bad...I was so busy getting things done yesterday that I threw something together quick for dinner, I don't think teriyaki marinade was the best choice to put on the chicken breasts, way too hig... Fri, 25 Sep 2009 11:47:01 EST Back to Ortho today This afternoon I go back to my orthopedic surgeon to see how my leg is healing. It feels fine and the walking is improving everyday. I am hoping to be able to give up this lovely"boot" soon and actually wear both shoes for a change. LOL I am feeling much more normal now, doing normal activities.

I feel back on track with the weight loss plan and am increasing my workout time daily. My body, especially my leg seems to be adjusting really good. It feels good to be back in the groove ... Thu, 24 Sep 2009 10:05:19 EST Back on my feet...literally It has been a long 3 months since my accident when I broke my leg. I am now walking again without the aid of my walker and getting in 20 minutes of exercise most days on my stationary bike.

This whole experience has shown me how much I took for granted before, especially the ability to walk. I have basically had to learn to walk again and it has been a bit of a struggle but is getting better each day.

Barb Mon, 21 Sep 2009 17:46:28 EST
