COTTONTAIL62's SparkPeople Blog COTTONTAIL62's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Relapses So sick of relapses, but I guess that is part of being human. With every new beginning there is hope. Sending positive vibes to all. Mon, 9 Mar 2015 09:34:10 EST Small Achievement Through most of last year I stayed in the 24,000 point range, which meant I was not doing much in terms of staying connected with the Spark Community, and in turn, falling backward in my goals. In January I set goals, one of which was reaching 25,000 points by the end of this month, which happened today, much sooner than I anticipated, which I demonstrated to myself you can achieve, if you put the time and effort forth. Moving on to other goals. Progress not perfection. Wed, 8 Jan 2014 10:14:53 EST My birthday goal! In a few days it will be a new year 2014, in which I will turn 65 in August. My goal is to lose 65 lbs by my birthday in which I can say this is the healthiest I have ever been. Health is the biggest treasure one can have at my age and it is up to me to take the steps needed to attain. This past year I was sidetracked with a knee injury which has become chronic, so it is time not to let that get in my way. A day at a time, I plan to meet my goal. Happy New Year. Mon, 30 Dec 2013 14:24:15 EST Fresh Start in 2014 n reviewing the past year 2013, the first 6 months I was doing well, until a knee injury became chronic and threw me completely off track. I became depressed with lack of exercise which I was enjoying, in retrospect I could have done something but I choose to be the martyr I guess. Then the holidays came along and gave me a excuse to use food as a comfort, so now added back the weight I had lost. So I decided to set forth on a new path, I will be turing 65 in August, so my goal is to lose 65... Fri, 27 Dec 2013 21:43:13 EST Thought provoking ! This week since Spring is almost happening here in the Northeast and I mean ALMOST, I decided I had some time to change out the closets from winter to spring-summer, what I did not expect to happen was the thoughts that went through my mind. Last year I went down a size, so my lighter weight clothes were 18-20's, through the winter I was slowly getting back to the 22's due to decrease in exercise due to a knee patella issue, and the holiday eating extravaganza's which continued through March,... Sun, 14 Apr 2013 09:46:45 EST A new level This morning I finally got to 20,000 points, I have to admit I should have gotten here sooner but over the winter months I just slacked off into a hibernation mode. I have been back in the groove for the past 3 weeks, tracking, reading and finding I am noticing a big difference. I have been battling a patella knee issue since last Nov. which has hampered me from doing my typically exercise routine, so after researching online, I think I have found a solution to help my problem in the form of a... Mon, 25 Mar 2013 11:31:22 EST Coming out of HIBERNATION......... Finally after several months of comfort food, lack of exercise and lack of daylight, and a knee injury, I am turning the corner as Spring is almost, I say almost here, it has been a long cold winter here in the Northeast corridor not that I am making excuses but it affects me in the form of hibernation.

So even though it is still cold, the daylight is longer and the snow is melted enough to see lawns re appear I have started up walking again, which has got me back on positive grou... Sat, 2 Mar 2013 10:02:18 EST Learning about flax seed Yesterday I was at the local nutrient store purchased some flax seed. Today I have been reading all about the benefits it offers, and plan to incorporate into my daily use, hoping to reap some of the benefits it offers. Sat, 16 Feb 2013 11:13:38 EST Day 9 Todays focus is drinking 8 glasses of water, it sounds easy but for me it can be challenging. Wed, 9 Jan 2013 10:08:25 EST Day 8 Today I am focusing on doing walking 3 times for 10 minutes. It seems this is how I am getting around my knee problem of patella tendonitis. If I try to do the whole 30 minutes at once it triggers the problem. After 8 days of changing little bad habits one by one I am seeing my energy level build up. Little changes can bring big results, so onward and upward. Tue, 8 Jan 2013 11:07:19 EST Day 7 Focus Today my focus will be continuing not to eat after 7 PM, so far so good. Positive Vibes to all ! Mon, 7 Jan 2013 08:30:02 EST Day 6- Focus Here it is, day 6 of my FOCUS, I am going to use this word instead of streak. Each day I am going to zone in on one thing. Today it is eating 5 veggies and or fruits. If I can focus on just one positive change a day, then over time all the gradual changes should lead to big results. Positive vibes to all ! Sun, 6 Jan 2013 15:12:10 EST Day 5 of my Streak ! SO taking baby steps, I am focusing on 1 small change each day. Today portion control and walking for as along as I can. Last November from overuse I developed patella tendonitis it has not been easy to get past. Positive Vibes to all ! Sat, 5 Jan 2013 09:55:39 EST Fresh Start My first blog of 2013 and it has been quite awhile since the last. I started 2012 with great strides which lasted well into the Spring, but life happened, so the end of the year was not what I hoped for, I can list and give all the excuses, but the fact of the matter is I went off course, but no sense looking in the rear view mirror, what is important is today, a new year a fresh start, it is not how many time you fall it is how many times you get up, that is where I am today. I have charted... Fri, 4 Jan 2013 19:46:29 EST Nature, healing effects. Today I am walking amongst the colored leaves , crisp air, and azure blue sky, I have learned nature can provide more than just the physical aspects , it can also nourish the mind, body, and soul as well. I have learned over the years how much I took the beauty of nature for granted, matter of fact I never really paid attention, until several years ago when I had a bout of depression, everything seemed either black or white, mostly black, now I live my life in COLOR, one day at a time. I h... Tue, 25 Sep 2012 09:26:47 EST Just a hour earlier, can matter I joined the Spark community mid Feb and was well on my way with a 22# loss, then May came and summer happened, lots of yard work and house renovations by the end of the day I was too exhausted to do my regular exercise routine, and felt I needed a energy boast from all the manual work, so my progress stopped. WHY, b/c I began eating the wrong things, although I was logging in everyday to Spark, I was not doing what was working, reading the articles, tracking all my food intake, etc. I gues... Mon, 24 Sep 2012 08:14:40 EST Forward, not backward. The last time I blogged was in June things were going great with exercise and healthy food choices, I was down 22 #'s from Feb when I joined, then summer happened with all kind of events and renovations of our home not to mention the heat and humidity, so the progress I was making halted. I did log in to Spark everyday, but was not keeping track of things as I was previously doing. Although I was doing a lot of yard work and renovating my food intake slipped and then I was so exhausted at the... Fri, 21 Sep 2012 10:19:41 EST Realizing just how many steps = 10,000 Got a pedometer late Feb when I started Spark, and was amazed to find out just how many steps consist of 10,000 steps. Since Feb I think I have only reached that goal 15 times, I can hit 3,000 to 5,000 with no problem, it does get frustrating b/c I don't always have the time, but I keep striving, with the nicer weather I am starting to get to 6,000 more frequently. Today was a good day b/c I did alot of yard work, errards and just plain walking, so far totaling 6800, I am just going to keep o... Sat, 23 Jun 2012 20:01:35 EST It's been awhile Found out today I lost a few pounds. I purchased a top awhile ago that was not comfortable, yesterday I wore it for the first time it felt great, so I decided to take a peek at the #'s on the scale and happy to say I was a few pounds lighter. I have finally conquered not to be sabotaged by the scale, I weigh in every few weeks, that way if I go up and down I don't get down, I focus more on how my clothes fit, my energy level, I try to focus on making healthy food choices, I do have a treat... Mon, 18 Jun 2012 10:42:42 EST Catching up Have not blogged in awhile, life has gotten a bit busy. Keeping up with Sparking each day is a bit more challenging, but I still have not missed a day since I joined in February. Each day I try to make the best food choices, and exercise at least 10 minutes a day when life gets really crazy. Since Spring has arrived and summer is around the corner I do a lot more work in the yard, I have noticed I was starting to slip in my routines so I re-grouped and back on track, I have not gained what... Wed, 6 Jun 2012 18:29:03 EST Great Weekend Sunshine and warm temps finally, 2 days straight. Did a lot of outdoor things on Saturday took advantage of the weather, and got a lot of exercise as well. Spent the evening with my daughter and family, great time.

Today I was tempted to treat myself to waffles, but after having 2nd thoughts, I had a egg white omelet, that is progress. Spent the afternoon buying flowers amidst the sunshine and warm temps, had a great dinner, haven't used the grill in awhile, or sat on the breezew... Sun, 13 May 2012 19:57:17 EST Rain, Rain go away I know we need rain, but every day is a little much. I enjoy being out in the sun and doing yard work, it is a added plus to my everyday exercise routine. I have being able to maintain my bouts of comforting eating, when it gets rainy and cold I just want to hibernate. Today I took the focus off all of it, by changing out the closets from winter to summer, I discovered clothes that were too big, so I guess added exercise + a change in my eating habits are making a difference, that brought... Wed, 2 May 2012 15:03:32 EST Feeling better Starting to feel better after a miserable few days of a sinus infection and allergies, I did not fall totally off track, I still tried to Spark everyday to keep connected and ate as sensibly as I could or I should say what I could tolerate with a bad sore throat, which was pretty much soup, crackers, and toast, all of which I stay away from on healthy days, but it sure helped the sore throat. my exercise routine fell flat, I did a little elliptical and some stretch moves, now that I feel I am... Wed, 25 Apr 2012 13:11:27 EST Not feeling well and off track Yesterday I wrote about allergy problems, today it is body aches and now a fever, so far soup crackers and jello, I feel not only like crap but thrown off track. Don't know if I will get any exercise done today or much sparking, plus a added bonus of winter like weather here. 39 Mon, 23 Apr 2012 16:11:34 EST Disgusted Did not sleep hardly at all last night, my allergies finally kicked in causing a sore throat, muscle aches, got myself together to go to a baby shower today, did pretty well there avoided the cake, but I did have some potatoes and ham, not normal foods for me lately. It was a brunch so I did not really have lunch, so when I got home I had crackers and cheese, again not my normal, then after dinner I had some vanilla ice cream, now that the day has just about ended, I am disgusted, not only wi... Sun, 22 Apr 2012 21:03:21 EST A new number It was beautiful day, did a lot of yard work, and my cardio routine, which allowed me to reach new heights, 11, 240 steps a new high for me. I am maintaining 8,000 steps from 5,000 so this was a new high. It is always a good feeling to reach a new # whether it is on the scale, in a dress size, in the gym it all comes together. Sending positive vibes to all for a great weekend. Fri, 20 Apr 2012 21:30:04 EST It's been awhile A few days have passed, have not been online much, but trying to spark as much as possible to keep me on track. I have been watching my daughters cat, she has been away since last Wednesday on a trip to San Francisco, arriving home tonight. I decided to surprise her with a clean house, that is where I was all day , my cardio for the day, I guess I really worked hard, a little sore at the moment. Jack the cat will be going back home tomorrow, so my life should be back to normal, I love doin... Wed, 11 Apr 2012 23:09:15 EST Tidbits Monday, a new month, a new week, a new weight. Last week I had a few miss steps but got back up and keep going. I am able to maintain 8,000 steps a day now which is progress, also keeping on track with my cardio, so making progress one day at a time. Mon, 2 Apr 2012 16:25:15 EST My Confession Well I joined the Spark community mid February and really have stayed on track, UNTIL
yesterday. I awoke had a healthy breakfast, did my sparking as a call it before starting my day. I am a designer by trade, so I had a order to get done and shipped which provided some stress as a result I missed lunch and was out of the house for most of the afternoon, on the way home I was feeling a bit exhausted, I stopped to buy a mega million ticket, which I usually do not play, except when the ja... Thu, 29 Mar 2012 11:41:05 EST Almost Yesterday I surpassed the 5,000 steps and I am finally in the 8,000 range.I never thought reaching 10,000 steps would be that much of a challenge but I am getting there a day at a time. Positive Vibes. Fri, 23 Mar 2012 16:24:42 EST Spring has Sprung Awoke to daffodils blooming, grass greening, trees budding, this is a real treat in the Northeast, we are about a month ahead of schedule due to a mild weather. It is a nice incentive to get outdoors, while challenging a new healthy lifestyle. One of my goals is to maintain 10,000 steps a day. Positive vibes to all. Tue, 20 Mar 2012 10:00:12 EST Friday Goals Since my back is feeling a bit better today, thinking about at least doing the treadmill so my exercise routine can somewhat keep going, looking to eat healthy, and maybe be a bit more productive . Fri, 16 Mar 2012 10:25:38 EST A step back Overdid it on Tuesday, result sore lower back, frustrated to say the least. Hoping for relief soon, so I can get back on track, instead of off track. 39 Thu, 15 Mar 2012 11:06:11 EST Maybe today Still trying to reach 10,000 steps, but making progress. It seems 5,000 steps is easy for me, but beyond that is really a challenge, but I am making progress, yesterday I got past 7,000 steps, we will see what today brings. Positive Vibes. Wed, 14 Mar 2012 09:41:31 EST SPRING HAS SPRUNG Today's forecast is 70, first time since last fall here in the northeast. This weather really encourages being outdoors, hope to get some exercise in while doing some outdoor cleaning. Nice to see the daffodils emerging. Maybe today will be the day I can hit 10,000 steps. Positive vibes. Tue, 13 Mar 2012 12:02:00 EST Forging ahead Today being Monday and a week of sunshine ahead, planning on doing a lot indoors and out. My biggest focus will be on getting closer to 10,000 steps in a day, so far I have no trouble hitting the 5,000 range. I also would like to see movement on the scale Saturday when I weigh in. If I can just focus on one day at a time instead of the week. Positive Vibes. Mon, 12 Mar 2012 09:52:42 EST Sunday Just going to go with the flow today, a little sore from the beginning of strength training, something I added this week which I never did before. Positive Vibes Sun, 11 Mar 2012 13:32:57 EST Expectations Well it is Saturday weigh in day, I expected to see at least a pound down, but it is the same. Trying to think what I did different this week, well I added weights and resistance bands, could that be the reason, or could it be the York Peppermint Patty I had mid week, whatever it was, my expectations weren't met, so I am forging towards next Saturday without any expectations, I think that is what set me back in the past. The weather next week is showing glimmers of mid 60's, so thinking I wi... Sat, 10 Mar 2012 11:25:53 EST The Pedometer This week I used my new pedometer and was surprised to find out 5 days later I have not accomplished 10,000 daily steps yet. It seems I can get past 5,000, so looks like I have work ahead of me. Fri, 9 Mar 2012 18:52:07 EST Making another change ! I guess I can say Spark is becoming part of my life as I made another change to include Spark, as my Homepage. I find it saves me a lot of time and is more user friendly. Also by adding it on my cell, these are all reminders to stay on track, so when life throws me a curve ball or triggers set in, I have these tools to use. Positive Vibes to all. Thu, 8 Mar 2012 08:21:16 EST At home and on the Go After reading the insider today, I decided to download the Spark App on my cell, another surprise to this new way of life. Now I can keep track on the go, this way if I find myself in need of knowing any info on the day I will have it with me. Also another feature I discovered is the bar code offered, will come in handy at the grocery store as well. I love, really love what this site offers, the info, the tracking, the point system, it all makes it fun and a challenge which never played int... Wed, 7 Mar 2012 11:09:00 EST Positive steps forward So far this week purchased a pedometer, used for the first time yesterday, was surprised at the end of the day it tracked almost 6,000 steps, but I do have to add yesterday was a more active day then most. Also bought a new blood pressure gauge, which replaced a very old one, at 62 I am very grateful I am not on any meds, except allergy pills when needed. I also bought a set of resistance bands, never used them, but after watching some video, thought I would give it a shot, all of these were ... Tue, 6 Mar 2012 09:13:39 EST New Purchase Was out and about today and bought a pedometer, anxious to see how many steps I take in a day. Sun, 4 Mar 2012 18:59:30 EST Reflection Here I am this Saturday evening relaxing ,while reflecting on this past week of ups and downs as life usually goes. Gratitude comes to mind as I think about where life has taken me, and taught me as well. I say this, because I always believe life takes you places that you might have never gone, or found, such as the Spark Community. I am member of only 3 weeks, but the knowledge and support I have been already shown is overwhelming, looking forward to this journey. Positive Vibes to all. Sat, 3 Mar 2012 21:53:05 EST Almost Well got through the day yesterday, then about 9 PM my old habit of raiding the fridge for something yummy occurred, in the past I would always give in to the urge. This time I kept on thinking about the Spark community and all they overcome, so I had a glass of water and went downstairs to exercise, I was amazed to find out that urge had disappeared. This morning I weighed in with another pound loss, so 2 pounds so far. Yeah. 41 Sat, 25 Feb 2012 11:58:14 EST Staying on Track Today I awoke to a dismal day here in the northeast, snow on the ground, cold and damp, this is the kind of day I think about comfort foods, the warm and yummy kind, so today will be a challenge to stay focused, hopefully with the help of Spark I will be successful at day's end. Positive vibes ! Fri, 24 Feb 2012 10:51:16 EST
