Didn't sleep at all the night before - went to bed at 10:30,and I think I got a little sleep, but not much... kept waking up constantly and seemed like the clock was NOT moving!! I finally got up at 1:30am and took a shower, dried my hair, sat in the sauna at a low temp (95) for a few minutes and got dressed. The alarm was set for 3am, but nope, I was all ready to go by 2am. I went back to bed at 2:15 and got up at 3:15am.

When I woke up, I started drinking my 32 ounce bottle of ... Sat, 27 Oct 2012 23:19:34 EST Getting nervous... My first marathon on Saturday!! I can't believe its so close!! And I'm starting to get those butterflies in my stomach. My first full marathon. I really am hoping to do it in 4 hours (at most 4:15). I'm a PE teacher and I have about 60 students running in the kids marathon that day (where they run the 25 miles in the weeks before and run the final 1.2 miles that day) Our 7yr old daughter is also running it.

The kids run starts exactly 3:55 after my marathon starts. If I can't be to the finish line in time to see ... Wed, 17 Oct 2012 23:50:38 EST 20 mile run today followed by .6 mile walk! Couldn't sleep last night and ended up with less than 4 hours of sleep. We're leaving tomorrow for vacation (9 nights) Our first "real" family vacation - farthest we've ever gone before was twice and only 3 hours away and both times only 1-2 nights. This time 9 nights and 13 hours away.

Got up, had some breakfast, ran my 20 mile run and walked .6 mile for cooldown. Then after my shower, took a 20 minute ice bath, then to the chiropractor, then petsmart for kitten food, then home -... Thu, 20 Sep 2012 21:20:57 EST 18 mile run today!! 18.16 miles to be exact - not counting the 1.19 mile cool down walk!

First 9.08 miles took 1hr 37 minutes, a 10:40 pace - then then 2nd 9.08 miles I ran in 1 hr 26 minutes, a 9:28 pace - average pace of 10:05. Very proud of myself.
I've been working very hard at training using the negative split (that means you run the 2nd half faster than the first... you want to run the first half slightly slower than your "goal" pace, and the 2nd half slightly faster than goal pace... and ... Thu, 13 Sep 2012 22:07:49 EST my 16 mile run today... Had a great run today. The first 8.06 miles I ran at a 10:47 pace and the last 8.06 miles ran at 9:25 pace (I think that is my best pace yet). I will say, I'm SORE!!! I then went on a 1.31 mile walk for my cool down at a 15:16 pace.

My total time for the 16.12 miles was 2hrs 43 minutes and my cool down walk was 20 minutes.

For my water - before I started running, I drove to the nearby Caseys and left two 16 ounce bottles of water hidden in a bush (which is right off the... Thu, 6 Sep 2012 21:29:33 EST Tomorrow I have a 16 mile training run... As my runs get longer (counting tomorrow, I have 3 more long runs before I start my taper for the 3 weeks for my Oct 20th marathon) This will be my longest run I've ever done (last week was also my longest run at 15 miles - which actually was a 14 mile run followed by a 1 mile walk... tomorrow will be a 16 mile run followed by 1 mile walk)
I'm still trying to figure out what route to run, as I live in a small town and I'm limited on areas to run since I will NOT run on sidewalks, desert... Wed, 5 Sep 2012 22:15:16 EST YA! This made my day :) If you read my last blog, you know that I teach a Health and Nutrition class to 7-8th graders. I also am a PE teacher for 1st-6th graders.

Today on facebook, one of the parents of one of my students in my H&N class posted:

"C had homemade split pea soup for his "after school" snack. We are taking this eating healthy stuff to a new extreme! :)"

Love hearing that!! Definitely made my day knowing that my class is having that kind of impact!
(I chose not to... Mon, 27 Aug 2012 19:59:44 EST Whats your favorite healthy recipe (that doesn't take long to make?) Yes, I know about the SparkPeople recipes and I use it often (especially to calculate the recipes I make) But I thought I would ask here what your favorite recipes are.

Now here's the deal - I need a total of 9 recipes.... all must take less than 20 minutes start to finish to make (that includes bake time if it has to be baked)
Recipes must be semi easy to make and not cost very much.

I teach a Health and Nutrition class to 7-8th graders each week and I told them... Wed, 22 Aug 2012 00:09:28 EST Skipped my run today! Body needed REST!! Training for my first full marathon in 63 days (thats 9 weeks from today) I have done so well with not missing a single run - even running 6 miles when we were on our Omaha vacation (got up extra early and headed to the hotel treadmill before the family got up and before heading to the zoo - which btw, was NOT easy)

But yesterday we took our teens to Worlds of Fun (amusment park) We left the house at 8am, got there at 9am and gates opened at 9:30 - we literally went from 9:30am un... Sat, 18 Aug 2012 21:57:29 EST Would love your help: Health and Nutrition for teens! I am a homeschooling mother and a PE teacher at a Homeschool Enrichment Program. I was recently asked if I would take on a class for 6-8th graders on Health and Nutrition. I accepted. I will be teaching this class on Wed's and its only 25 minutes long (my PE classes are 55 minutes long)

I have so much I want to teach the students on health and nutrition, but yet at the same time, I am drawing a blank on what to do for the first class.

Would love ideas on what to teach ... Fri, 10 Aug 2012 21:15:59 EST Renamed blog - Not too low, but As I suspected, I found out today that my body fat is too low. I went to a personal trainer at a local gym to get my body fat measured and I came out as a 14.2% - which falls just below the "extra lean" category (extra lean was 15-19) As a marathon runner, from the books I have read, it says its best to be in the "ideal" body fat, and not in the "lean" (yet alone being below the "extra lean")
Due to the high miles that I run, my body needs that extra fat for fuel. The PT gave me some ti... Mon, 6 Aug 2012 21:44:06 EST What do you think? Great idea? Stupid idea? Ok whatever idea? I was born in Athens, Greece (hence my name, Corina - a Greek name) My dad was in the navy and we moved to the states when I was young, so I don't remember anything other than the pictures. My home is filled with lots of marble that my parents bought when we lived there. My kitchen table, china cabinet, telephone tables, coffee table, end tables are all made of thick marble - nothing that you can buy here (very heavy and not fun to move - my parents always promised all the marble to me when I... Sat, 4 Aug 2012 20:36:59 EST YES!!!!! Check out my 5K results! So excited about todays 5K. For those that don't read my blogs, I have been training very hard for my first full marathon which will be October 20th... but in the meantime, I signed up for three 5Ks and 1 half marathon this year as well. My HM time was 2:02:27 - and until today, my personal record for the 5K was last month and I came in at 26:41 and my husbands PR was 29:00
Today my PG (personal goal) was 25 minutes and my husbands PG was 28 minutes.

I came in at 24:19 YA! I... Sat, 21 Jul 2012 19:45:21 EST Love my bib# for tomorrows run! Just got home from picking up our race packets for tomorrows 5K. (our 3rd and final one for this year - I have 5 runs, the three 5K's, the half and then in Oct the full marathon)

Love my Bib# - I got #22 - very easy for me to remember, why? Because its the day of my bday! My husband got #23 - too bad he didn't get #21, as his bday is on the 21st. Wouldn't that have been something!

Looking forward to tomorrow. My PR is currently 26:41 - my goal is to beat that... my hus... Fri, 20 Jul 2012 11:38:39 EST Glow run update We were so excited to do this 5K with our teens (their first time running with us - my husband and I run together) Anyway, it cost $100 for the 4 of us for registration - not to bad, $25/each - it was advertised that the entire course would be lit up with black lits, glow cones ect. and a "beer garden" at the end (Been to a couple other runs that gave each runner a free beer at the end)

Well, 3 days before the run, I get an email. Problem #1 - they said that parking will cost $10 ... Mon, 16 Jul 2012 20:00:25 EST 100 days from today I'll run my first full marathon!! I can't believe only 100 more days!! I've been training hard for this and continue to look forward to the next 100 days of training.

I have read so many marathon training books - my favorite book is Marathoning for Mortals by Coach Jenny and "Penguin" (sorry I can't remember his name at the moment) They also cowrote the book Running for Mortals - I highly recommend both these books. They were by far my favorite 2 books of all the ones I have read.

My calendar has ALL my ... Thu, 12 Jul 2012 22:58:44 EST Our trip!! Fun but very exhausting! We left right after Church Sunday morning (well, actually before Church was over, as we wanted to get on the road) A 3.5 hour drive and we arrived in Nebraska. Checked into the hotel and then headed for dinner (ate at Burger King - kids sure enjoyed that, as we don't eat out, so it was a VERY special treat - we packed our lunch and snacks)
We went to the Pedestrian bridge and walked across - I have a picture of me in Nebraska and husband in Iowa and we're kissing :) Was a neat experienc... Tue, 10 Jul 2012 20:36:16 EST Going to the zoo!! I should be sleeping right now, but of course, I'm not!!

We are leaving tomorrow to head to the Omaha zoo. It will be the first time taking the younger children there. We went in Oct 2004 and had a great time.

We would leave first thing in the morning, but my husband and I both teach Sunday School (he teaches 4-6th grade and I teach babies-age 4). So then we were planning on leaving right after Sunday school, but our teens were at Church camp this past week and they wil... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 01:18:23 EST Attended a running form clinic today!! Got up at 4:45 and left the house at 5:15 to go to a running clinic this morning. It was not what I expected (I guess I expected to sit and listen/watch) But it was all hands on.
First off, they had us line up and start running as they video'd us running. Then they had us take off our shoes/socks and do it again.

Then we went to the grass area (still barefoot) and learned so many things about running. They talked about how we should be running at 180BPM and taught us form, te... Sat, 30 Jun 2012 21:01:32 EST update on my bike injuries I went to the chiropractor today and he said that my knee has lots of fluid/swelling in it. It still hurts like crazy. Today is the first day that its not been bleeding and oozing pus, so thats good! The back of my other leg sure does look nasty from from bruising and scratches from the bike pedal. My hand is looking much better too.
My neck, spine and hips were way off alignment (as I knew they were) from the accident. For the first time since seeing this chiropractor, he wants me to c... Tue, 19 Jun 2012 20:30:48 EST 5K results (even while injured!!) Had a great 5K today - definitely painful due to my accident yesterday (which btw hurts so bad, especially when I bend my knee - anytime I bend it, even to sit, it starts to bleed), but didn't let that slow me down. Beat my PR by 98 seconds. My previous PR was 28:19 (but for this particular run, last year I came in at 30:09) Today I came in at 26:41
I came in 2nd out of 25 for my age/sex (got a medal), and overall 17/105. Mike also earned a medal, he came in 2nd/7 for age/sex and overal... Sat, 16 Jun 2012 16:49:47 EST Wrecked on my bike today - ouch! I can't believe we (husband and I) were so stupid today!! We are both signed up for a 5K tomorrow (which seems so small compared to running a half marathon 2 weeks ago) But today is "rest" day from running to allow the body to recover for the run tomorrow... well, we decided to go on a nice bike ride around the lake. We've been wanting to do this for several months, but with young children, we don't want to have to have the older teens babysit while we do this (they babysit while we ride in o... Fri, 15 Jun 2012 19:27:34 EST My first Half Marathon with pictures! We left our home at 4:45am and arrived at 5:20 - We got the most amazing parking place (so thankful to God for that)
Walked around a bit to see where everything was.
Took this at 6am:

6:30 made a last trip to the porta potty (long lines as expected) and then at 6:45 headed to the start. They had a staggered start, which I really liked. I was in corral D (although I now realize that with my speed, ... Fri, 8 Jun 2012 21:28:48 EST YES!!! I ran my first half marathon today and did great!! GREAT news!! My time was 2:02:27 WHOOOHOOO!! Only missed my goal by 2minutes 27 seconds! I was very pleased with that time. Although let me say, I am SORE! OUCH! I was doing really good until about the 10 mile mark and started loosing momentum. A call to my husband helped (I called him twice - once at the 7 and then again on the 11 markers - I wanted to keep him updated on how I was doing - probably the only one running a half marathon and talking on the phone HAHA!!) When I reached the 12 I ... Sat, 2 Jun 2012 19:23:43 EST only 12 more hours!!!! Actually only 10 hours until we leave the house to drive to the Hospital Hill half marathon that I'll be running in tomorrow. Longest race I've done was a 5K (two of those last year) I'm fully ready for the milage - infact, I've done up to 13.8 miles in my training... but what I'm nervous about is the hills. This is a very hilly race - several very long/steep hills the entire race. At the expo today when I told them what my PG is, they warned me that this race has its own PR all of its own. S... Fri, 1 Jun 2012 19:38:01 EST Official Spring Into Shape Bootcamp Challenge a success!! I'm happy to say that for the last 4 weeks, I have 100% tracked everything I ate (ok, make that 98%, as there were 2 nights that I didn't track a very small binge on those 2 nights - but even those 2 nights, I was only slightly over my calorie range) I stayed in my calorie range, as well as tried very hard to keep my protein, calcium, fat, fiber and several other nutrients in range. I did all the SP videos each day, and got my cardio in (thats not hard, as I've been training for my first half... Mon, 28 May 2012 20:20:14 EST Running with someone vs running alone As a marathon runner in training, I've been building up my weekly miles... with every other Saturday being my long runs. I always run alone. A good thing about that is I don't have to worry about going to fast for others, or them going to fast for me.... and I can take my walk breaks/water breaks when "I" want/need (I'm a run/walk/run runner... I'm slowly increasing how long I run before taking a 1 minute walk/drink break - I'm currently worked up to 19 run/1walk)

Anyway, a friend... Sat, 12 May 2012 19:41:58 EST Help/Question - how to track - anyone?? I love juicing - we bought a nice masticating juicer for Christmas (Omega 8400). We (husband and I) usually juice 4-6 times a week for our breakfast. I'm wondering how do I go about tracking that at Sparkpeople?

Today we juiced for lunch (I'm a teacher and today for home-ec, we had juicing class) I joined a SP challenge in which I need to track all my foods (which I used to do alot, and one of the reasons I don't like juicing, as I don't know how to track it)

So today, I... Wed, 9 May 2012 21:41:37 EST One week fully back at SP and it shows!! YA! So happy to be back and sparking!
I have been tracking my foods on/off the last couple months - but 8 days ago I joined the Official Spring Into Shape Bootcamp Challenge... The last 8 days I have tracked EVERY bite of food, and have done the challenge. The last year I have been keeping up on my running and biking, but I slacked off doing the sparkvideos (which I always loved and can't believe I stopped) With this challenge I have been doing the required video daily as well as one other ... Mon, 7 May 2012 20:42:06 EST runner shorts vs bikers shorts... I always wear biking shorts - whether I'm running or biking. But today I wore "running" shorts on a 13.07 mile run. Will be the last time I do that. About the 9-10 mile point, and with the heat (85 degrees) and my sweating, the shorts started bundling up between my legs :( I ended up doing more walking the last part vs running, as it was uncomfortable. I kept pulling them down, but anytime I would run, they would bunch up again and started becoming painful.

I now have a not so pre... Sat, 5 May 2012 21:30:08 EST Ran 13.4 miles today!! I can't believe that its been almost a year since my last blog post...

In a nutshell, since that 5K that I ran, I really got a strong urge to run more. A couple months later, DH and I ran another 5K - I got 2nd place for my age/sex (ok, so it was 2nd out of 3, but still LOL) I'm proud of the plaque that I won that day (and my DH got 1st - um out of 1 LOL and also got a plaque)

Anyway, I decided that this year I'm running the half marathon - I signed up to run the Hospit... Sat, 21 Apr 2012 20:37:23 EST Ran my first 5K - and pictures!!! When I found out about the Teri Mathis Zenner 5K, I instantly knew my husband and I would participate. Teri was a social worker that was brutally killed a few years ago. Before we moved, I was friends with the wife of one of the police officers that was first on the scene. It was so horrific, that all the officers that worked the case ended up in counseling and time off work. Talking with the wife, it really messed them up...

Fast forward a couple years - we had moved and the smal... Wed, 22 Jun 2011 23:11:20 EST We bought a sauna!!! I’m so excited – we’re getting a sauna!!

Over the last 12 years we’ve slowly been building a full home gym. Our gym now has: precor (the gym model – I wouldn’t settle on the smaller home version – this is the large one that you’d see in most gyms – and I’m so happy we didn’t “save” and get the home version – this was the first item we bought for our gym and we use it several times a week and its still in excellent condition). We also have a bosu ball (and stand – however we rarely ... Wed, 1 Jun 2011 21:47:59 EST I'm MOD? But in reality, all of YOU were my MOD's - Thanks to all :) Imagine my surprise to find out I was MOD today and all the comments and goodies I recieved today.

As usual, it couldn't have happened at a better time. Seems like SP always knows when to throw this at me. Just 3 days ago, I was really frustrated as my weight has gone up to a 120. My maintaining range is 110-112.... ok so to many, I know they'd love to see a 120 - infact, when I joined SP, my GOAL was 125. But then I not only made my goal, but I passed it. I even got to a 107 (und... Thu, 31 Mar 2011 19:00:40 EST 15 pound gain in one week - and 11 pound loss the next.... I've not been around much at all the last couple of weeks, only to get to my page and see the "beautiful woman" awards - the funny thing is, I really needed those at this time.

I had my surgery (for those that don't know, I nursed 4 children for a total of 9.5 years - which really did a number of my already tiny chest - and yes, I got a breast augmentation)

My surgery was 1-11-11 (what a cool date, right!! LOL)

I always do a WI every Monday - the day before ... Thu, 27 Jan 2011 12:19:39 EST Annual physical today - no food for 17 hours (OUCH) We (my husband and I) had our annual physical's today. We had to go 14 hours before the appt on a fast (no food/drinks - other than water) But since that time would have started at 7pm last night, and the last time we ate was a little before 6pm, it would have been 15 hours... then our dr was running behind (there was a problem in another room) By the time we got our lab work done, we were starving!
Thankfully I packed each of us a Fiber One bar to eat as soon as our labs were drawn. <... Fri, 12 Nov 2010 20:47:11 EST Survived Applebees Had a great time at my sis' 40th birthday party "girls night" at Applebees. We had 4 generations there: My grandma, my mom, my aunt (moms sister), my sister, me and my 15yr old daughter...

I was really dreading it, but hey, its ONE meal, right!! I am at my goal (if I loose any more weight I will be considered underweight) So I enjoyed my meal... but wow, I have to say, I have NO desire to go back to Applebees ever again. What upset me the most is the high fat and sodium content. I... Fri, 5 Nov 2010 22:48:03 EST ug, Applebees - I do NOT want to go - but I have to :( My sister turned 40 yesterday and we are celebrating with a "girls night out" on Friday night (aka my Grandma, my mom, my aunts, my 15yr old daughter and myself) and they chose to have it at Applebees. Honestly, I've only been there one time and that was 12 years ago...

When I was looking up the nutrition on the menu items, it about made me sick to my stomach!! Oh my goodness, if you've never looked at it, I'm sure looking will make you never want to go there.

I was s... Tue, 2 Nov 2010 21:35:10 EST Children's Mercy Hospital today... I've not mentioned this before, but last month when we took our annual trip to the Great Wolf Lodge (a water park) we noticed that our son (who turned 13 on the 14th of October).... his sternum was protruding out of his chest.

I made an appt with our doctor - the dr did xrays and said it looked like Pectus Carinatum... and told us we need to take him to Children's Mercy Hospital to see a pediatric general surgeon. In the weeks waiting for our appt today, I had done lots of researc... Wed, 27 Oct 2010 22:44:22 EST Let the difficult phase begin... I am officially back to where I was a few months ago (before I "got off track" and gained a few pounds)... I maintained a 108-110 from December 2008 through December 2009, then I let myself get up to a 115.6...

Well, I am officially back into that range (today's WI was 108.8) I changed my goal back to maintain... it added 300 to both the low and high end of my calorie range... since I was only loosing a pound a week, I changed it to only a 150 increase....

Over the las... Mon, 25 Oct 2010 21:12:44 EST today's WI + my Guess I should enter a new blog, since my last one was 21 days ago.

My last blog mentioned I was down a full pound (from a 112.0 to a 111.0) Well, the week after I went back up to the 112 - but that was due to the most AWESOME weekend ever. My husband got free tickets to Nascar... not only tickets to see the race, but since we were in the first 75 to check in (was up before 4am and out the door by 4:30am) We were #28 to check in YA!! We got upgraded packages... I really should make... Mon, 18 Oct 2010 21:15:56 EST Most awesome day today!! Could not have been any better!!!! This day couldn't have been any better.
1) This morning (as always) I started the day with my workout - I ran 6.88 miles and then did 30 minutes of upper body strength (Love the SP videos - I usually do 3 when I do my ST - Monday's is my upper body day and I did 3 of the upper body workout videos)

2) When we (dh and I workout together) were done working out, he got a call from his boss.... he got a RAISE!! And a nice one too - a 7% raise! He hasn't had a raise in almost 5 ye... Mon, 27 Sep 2010 21:21:04 EST Lost 2.2 pounds I really did not expect that at all... as my daughter's 15th birthday was Saturday. We had a bigger than normal lunch - I made homemade lasange (made with turkey meat and fat free cottage cheese) and homemade bread. Also made brownies (our family doesn't like cake that much, so we usually do brownies for most birthdays - or a big chocolate chip cookie). Then we went to a friends 5yr olds birthday party (My daughter babysits for them - and the 2 girls share a birthday 10 yrs apart) At her par... Mon, 20 Sep 2010 21:33:15 EST lost 1.4 pounds and 16.38 mile bike ride... Very happy with my progress. Lost 1.4 pounds (now down to 114.2) Only 4.2 pounds to go to get back to the maintaining range that I was at for more than a year before I let myself gain 15 pounds. When I reach my goal (again), I am going to STAY there - I was so proud that I maintained a 108-110 for over a year and half... WHY did I let myself get off track and get to a 125?? Whatever the reasons, it wont happen again. And DH was maintaining a 180-185 for the same year and half, only to get to ... Mon, 13 Sep 2010 21:53:39 EST gained .6 pounds! How ironic that last week I lost .6 pounds and this week I had a gain of .6 pounds!

DH also had a gain of .6 pounds! Almost too funny - too bad its NOT funny. Oh well, here's to another week. Only .6 pounds - could have been all the water we drank today. We both have had over 16 cups of water (I'm not at 18) Here's to hoping next week we'll both see a loss!

On another note - we've been biking ALOT - especially me. I've been going on hour long bike rides every day and l... Mon, 6 Sep 2010 20:26:30 EST Lost .6 pounds! I'm happy. I changed my goal to loose only a half a pound a week and very happy with my loss. Today's WI wa 115.0 (last week was 115.6)
I love the SP app - I've been keeping track on my daily "calories differential" (I don't see that anywhere on SparkPeople, but its one of the cool features on the SP app) and I've been making sure my end of the week difference is between 2000-3500 - last week it was 2754 and I lost .6 pounds - the week before it was a 4109 and I lost 1.6 pounds - after ... Mon, 30 Aug 2010 21:23:59 EST YA!! Read yesterday's blog for the background for this blog...

So happy to say, todays WI was 115.6 - I lost 1.6 pounds! WHOOHOO!!
