CONFIDENTLY_FIT's SparkPeople Blog CONFIDENTLY_FIT's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Catching up :) Hello, hello Spark buddies:)
Another school year comes to a close. As I reflect back on my practices this year, I would say my skills in trouble shooting and management were tested the most. This year was comparable to my first in terms of stress. I nearly walked away mid year. Feeling defeated, unsupported, and at times worthless; to say it was a "bad year" is an understatement.
This was my 12th year teaching. I was split between two schools again. I also taught most days a... Mon, 22 Jun 2015 07:55:37 EST October recap Hello hello!
I hope everyone has a great October:) Things here have been going really well and busy!
Last weekend I had my body pump training. I was required to memorize two tracks to present to the trainer (that Les Mills sent) and the rest of our group. There were 17 of us total:) if you are not familiar with Body Pump, it is a whole body weight training program. There is set moves that instructors are required to memorize to present to their classes. You may not use your n... This course was designed for those who had some sort major injury and are now looking to get back into the gym. Lots of pre-made plans by doctors and chiropractors were al... Sun, 14 Sep 2014 13:02:23 EST September Fall is my favorite time of the year:) I love all the colors and foods fall brings! You would never know it's fall by the temps we are going to have this week:) One last round of summer??

I found three interesting workout plans in my latest Muscle and Fitness For Hers one for each style of figure competition. I have no desire to enter this type of competition. I think the eating plan would be way too strict, but I love all the workouts that were published so I am going to giv... Sun, 31 Aug 2014 12:31:20 EST 2000 miles:) Today I hit the 2000 mile mark! Three miles on the treadmill before teaching class:)

Summer has been going so fast. I can't believe in two weeks I'll be back at school. For the first time in a very long time, maybe as long as I have been teaching, I really don't care about going back. I'm not stressed about it. I don't have a nervous stomach about it. I just really am looking at it as something to do during the day instead of being at the gym.

Two weeks ago I had... Thu, 7 Aug 2014 10:55:03 EST Resistance training tips Over the weekend I had the chance to attend two more workshops held at the Y. I wanted to share some tips on resistance training that I thought were worth mentioning. If you have any questions or wanna know more, drop me a line:)
*Form over anything else. I know for most of us this is a no-brainer, but I hear more and more members of the Y talking about low back pain and joint pain. If your spine is not neutral, back is rounded, or shoulders are hunched you are going to pull somethi... Mon, 21 Jul 2014 08:53:21 EST Summer update 5 *No new fitness achievements. Surprisingly everything went very smoothly:) The kids had a lot of fun playing games, signing yearbooks, and just relaxing with their teachers and friends.
No sugar cravings for me, in fact it's been over a month since I have had any sugar except fruit. The fruits I have been eating are berries and green apples, low glycemic so they don't spike blood sugar and lead to crashes.

Time for a sum... Tue, 27 May 2014 12:41:20 EST 21 DSD week 3 And that's a wrap:) Perfect eating week:) Feeling great! I really had zero sugar cravings this week. Looking forward to continuing with this eating style as long as I can. There are about 3.5 weeks til school is over. So I am challenging myself to follow this eating plan the next few days. I feel so much better, I can think clearer, I don't get down on myself about anything, and all I did was change what I was eating.

Clients cancelled today so I get to head to the Y:) Been... Sat, 24 May 2014 07:13:47 EST 21 DSD week 2 Ahh this was a really bad week eating wise. Way too many Quest Bars were eaten:) Just gotta cut them out once and for all. They replace any type of indulging treat for me, and I cannot eat just one. My hubby already knows he can have the rest of the box I just got. I will say I noticed an immediate difference the day I did not eat one. Stress plays a major factor in my treat eating. So onto week 3:)

Positives this week:
*Got our kayaks out again for the second week in a... Sun, 18 May 2014 06:23:55 EST Size vs weight Two topics I have been thinking about since meeting with a client earlier this week. She is getting married soon and is very focused on losing weight. I was trying to explain to her that she really wanted to lose inches to get into a smaller size dress. There is no weight limit on her wedding dress, there is a size that is based on inches. You want a smaller size, you have to lose inches.

High intensity workouts, short but all out effort, is what gets the results. As I refle... Fri, 9 May 2014 14:24:33 EST 21 DSD round 2 Another round:) I think so! Just saw on Instagram that the lovely lady behind The 21 Day Sugar Detox is kicking off another round of 21 DSD. It is basically strict paleo eating. For 3 weeks you cut out sugar, wheat, and dairy. You can look for meal ideas on Instagram and Twitter by searching for Balanced Bites. There are also two resource books available on Amazon: The 21 Day Sugar Detox and The 21 Day Sugar Detox cookbook.
This time around I am staying off the scale, no batterie... Sun, 4 May 2014 06:43:16 EST MAY!! I love the month of May. It is my birth month, we are almost done with school, I can walk to the gym when it's not raining, and I can run and walk the pups outside more!
Outside snack time also occurs! The light at the end of the tunnel is so bright right now for school. It helps that I am counting by weeks instead of days:) Single digits, baby!
My challenges have been going great so far!
*Creating new recipes has been fun! My hubby made a BBQ sauce that I have been eati... Fri, 2 May 2014 08:26:08 EST Dear scale, Our relationship has been a rocky one. It has been full of ups and downs. For way too long you determined my mood, what clothes I would wear, and how I would feel about myself for the day. IT IS OVER. I am done with you. You cannot tell me how much I can lift, how far or fast I can run, how many pull ups I can do, how hard I push myself, or how fast I can do any of the workouts I do on a daily basis. You cannot tell me how I good I feel when my pants are loose and you certainly cannot... Sat, 19 Apr 2014 07:10:54 EST Anxiously awaiting summer Today was one of those "summer workout" days! Everything felt great, I got to joke around with my fitness buddy, and I did not have to think about what time I had to leave the gym. I really wish every day could be like this:)
In 9 short weeks it can!

*My cooking challenge is going well:) I made a new sweet potato crust pizza last week and tonight squash pizza crust is on the menu:) Loving weekly pizza nights:)
*Packing left overs for lunch has been going really well... Fri, 11 Apr 2014 08:22:39 EST On to April! So excited to start another month.
Eating clean and training as hard as I can are the plan for this month. Sounds like a good balance, huh?
Workouts for the month:
Monday: SWEAT and pup walk
Tuesday: SWEAT, bootcamp, spin
Wednesday: SWEAT, Tabata
Thursday: SWEAT, spin
Friday: SWEAT and pup walk
Saturday: spin and pup walk
Sunday: run, abs, pup walk

I am also participating in a cookin... Sun, 30 Mar 2014 10:37:14 EST 9-5 workout When I woke up to about 6 inches of snow this AM I knew I would not head to the gym. The AM classes were cancelled and I really did not want to go at night. So that left working out at home as my plan for today:)
The plan was to do some sort of fitness every hour on the hour from 9-5.
Here's the break down:
9: Legs-50 rear leg lifts, 50 pulsing lunges, 40 squats
10-arms- 30 bicep curls, 30 tricep lifts, and 30 tricep kickbacks
11-core-100 twisting crunches on the ... Sun, 2 Mar 2014 10:39:14 EST Moving along So happy to be starting March. So far neither January nor February has been my favorite month. Maybe March will be better:)

Started the month off right with spin at the Y! I also found a really yummy smelling candle at Rite Aid:) It's the little things right?:)

542.03 miles for the year!
Looking forward to movie night:)
Sat, 1 Mar 2014 16:51:29 EST The wagon Most of the time I am 100% committed to living a very healthy lifestyle. I have no problem eating lots of fruits and veggies. I love salads and fruits as snacks. Unfortunately stress, anxiety, over-excitement, boredom, eating the same things over and over, etc. come into play and I am knocked right off the healthy lifestyle wagon. Processed foods fill my cart and empty calories try to fill my belly. Neither of these is ideal for my bank account or overall health.

I took th... Fri, 28 Feb 2014 10:23:11 EST March Madness Yes, I know it is not March yet. But I am ready to post goals for the next month:)

Started out today with egg whites, spinach, ground turkey and a sweet potato.
Ran 4 miles, deadlifted 185 and did a fun little circuit of pull ups, knee ups, box jumps, burpees, rows, and curls.
Looking forward to getting the pups out in a bit:)

Goals for March:
*Stick with my running plan created with my Nike Run App. I missed a 6 miler this past week. Although I am not ... Sun, 23 Feb 2014 10:10:45 EST Thoughts on balance I am always up for a fun experiment. I love a good challenge. For 21 days I ate no sugar. I read every label, ate low sugar fruits, ate LOTS of nuts, and had no problem saying no to any sugary treat that came my way.
Pros:
Clear skin
Energy up f(or the most part)
Slept well (for the most part)
Scale down
Cons:
I could not eat enough- I was hungry all the time.
Lasted exactly 21 days and then I started craving sugar like crazy.

Trying to ... Fri, 14 Feb 2014 10:29:00 EST Username change It's still me:)
The username thing is something I wanted to change for awhile. When I registered for Spark all those years ago and was asked for a username, I picked the easiest thing I could remember. CGG111 was my college email address (

Now that things have changed so much since college that I wanted something to reflect where I am now:) Working at the Y has really opened my eyes to the whole fitness/healthy eating world. I have some pretty good ideas and... Sun, 9 Feb 2014 07:55:01 EST Yoga round 3? I have tried yoga a few times, maybe three? I have tried videos, and they have almost put me to sleep. I have tried hot yoga and I liked it. Some of the poses were hard, but there were plenty of modifications that I could do. My hamstrings are so tight! Today's class was at the Y and I was able to take it because my client was running late.
It was a good class. Nothing too challenging. Lots of stretching and breathing. I have tried over and over to love yoga. I know I need to ... Sat, 1 Feb 2014 17:00:01 EST Another snow day! Woke up to 6+ inches of snow:) NO SCHOOL!!
All am classes at the gym were cancelled so I had the morning to call appointments and get some plans ready for members later this week. Have I mentioned how much I love my part time job:) I mean really LOVE it:)

For breakfast I wanted something a little different than I usually eat and was craving cranberries and oranges. So I whipped up:
Paleo Protein Clementine and Cranberry Breakfast Squares
1.5 cups almond flour <... Wed, 29 Jan 2014 14:26:52 EST Holy Vacation, Batman! So last week we had school for a half day on Tuesday and that was it. It was a professional day so there were no kids:) That afternoon we got 4 inches of snow and frigid temps. We didn't go the rest of the week.

Wednesday I was snowed in and slept almost all day:)
Thursday I did not make it to the gym. Too many appointments and I really did not feel like getting out at 5 with all the snow.
Got back there Friday for some running, spinning and SWEAT.
Saturday I hi... Sun, 26 Jan 2014 11:22:40 EST Back at it:) Having back to back rest days made me realize how much I love the gym and working out. Fri, 24 Jan 2014 09:29:38 EST Rest Days Our school has been closed for the past two days due to icy, snowy roads. I have not been to the gym since Tuesday. For the first time in a long time I am ok with that. Yesterday I slept. Apparently I really needed to catch up. I also drank over a gallon of water. Apparently I was dehydrated as well. Today i had an early appointment and really did not feel like going to the gym at 5:30 especially since I did not "have" to. So I got some laundry and cleaning done.
Now I have a few... Thu, 23 Jan 2014 13:11:10 EST My dream job? I often wonder what I would do for a career if I stopped teaching. The stress really gets to me. The disrespectful kids really get to me. The demands placed upon us gets to me. Oh but wait I get my summers off right? Yeah, right after I am done taking classes or attending the many "not mandatory" workshops offered in the county.

Since I started my part time Y job, I have had something to look forward to most days after school. It is so rewarding to hear "thank you" after work... Tue, 21 Jan 2014 04:54:57 EST 21 Day Sugar Detox Complete I found this challenge much easier than the last 21 day challenge I followed. At the end of the last one, all I could think about was cookies and cake. I ended up eating both and way too much of each. I ended up craving it for three weeks straight. It was all I could think about. Sugar is addicting, right? Yeah, I really think so.

This time I feel great! I did have some cravings, but found that green apples with cinnamon did the trick. I really wanted to see if I could eli... Sun, 19 Jan 2014 07:44:11 EST Week 2 21 Day Sugar Detox Still going strong:)

I had some sugar cravings this week. I am not sure what caused them. The meals I have been making are great:) My hubby even had enjoyed some of the things I made. Some of the things he did not care for, which is typical:)
Some things I have noticed:
*I am back to my "happy" weight.
*Energy is up:)
*I am back into a running routine:)
*I am happier and more relaxed. This could be majorly influenced by having two weeks off from school. I am really... Sun, 5 Jan 2014 10:16:08 EST Two a days Two a days are something I incorporate into my weekly fitness plans. I love working out and there are some days I just have more energy than others. Some would probably say this is extreme or unnecessary, but to me it's something fun:)
Today was no exception. I went to SWEAT in the AM and then a little while later I headed back to the gym for spin. This is typically how I work out on Tuesdays and Thursdays; however, this month I won't be able to spin on Thursdays due to taking on ... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 11:26:11 EST Away we go! Another year! Another chance to make gains in many aspects of my life. Things were so quite on my walk to the gym this AM:) It was great! There was just enough frost to give everything a little shine to it:)
Since there was no SWEAT class today and I really did not feel like lifting, I decided to run:) I remember running the last few years on Jan. 1st and thinking that it would be a great way to start the year!
2.75 total on the treadmill.
I did something new to prevent ... Totally doable!

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening! I'll catch ya in 2014! Tue, 31 Dec 2013 10:35:41 EST More progress:) Saturday I started following the 21 Day Sugar Detox eating guidelines, which are very similar to the Primal eating guidelines on I feel so much better:) I was finding that I was eating way too many "healthy " bars, so I was looking for something as an alternative. The guidelines have many recommendations for substitutions for protein bars. I made a really yummy coffee cake yesterday and had to share the recipe.

1 cup almond flour
2 chopped apples
1 ... Mon, 30 Dec 2013 10:42:47 EST Squat it out:) One of my co teachers and I have a saying when the kids start driving us nuts, "Squat it out". We will stop everything we are doing and just start squatting. Some times the kids laugh, sometimes they stare, and sometimes they join in:) When they join in of course we start doing jumping jacks or lunges also:) Can't wait for the day we are observed:)

Back squat today: 180#...up from 160#!
