COMEONMA's SparkPeople Blog COMEONMA's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community July 30 Day Squat Challenge July will be the month I focus on activity other than running. I can't stand the heat, and so far, Rochester has been loaded with it!

So, my very successful sister-in-law of sticking to workout plans sent me the 30 Day Squat Challenge. I started it yesterday and am excited to get it going. I even built up to it a little bit over the weekend knowing that I hadn't done a squat in so long, I didn't want to jump right in and start with 50! I can already feel the burn, so I know I'm... Wed, 2 Jul 2014 12:20:03 EST Crushed my last record! I spent this weekend in Cincinnati with family and friends to watch them do the Half Marathon and run the 5K. I have had trouble breathing (I actually stop and hold my breath) when I exercise because it hurts too much. I finally went and got an inhaler and was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma.

I used it to train a couple times and felt better. The day before the race, I took my brothers dog for a 2 mile walk/run and PR'd (personal record) on my second mile. On race day, I... Mon, 21 Oct 2013 09:17:44 EST P90X Day 1 UGGH! I made it through the Chest and Back video, somewhat keeping up, but had to modify like crazy! By the end, I tried to do a pushup on my toes and fell flat on my face! Went to my knees and then to the wall, but I at least did some of everything.
I then spent the next 20 minutes laying on the floor trying to get the strength to sit up and not feel like I was spinning!
Hydration, shower and sleep and I'm ready for my run tonight!

Probably not the smartest one to pic... Fri, 6 Sep 2013 12:54:26 EST Almost started P90X! I borrowed the videos from a friend and watched the preview on Tuesday. I had full intentions of starting last night, but when I got home, I noticed we must have had a huge wind because my cherry blossom tree which had been dropping leaves was bare. The leaves were blown all over the neighbors yard as well as ours.
I went outside at 7pm and didn't come back in until 3 hours and 10 bags later!
I would say I got a great workout, but not exactly what I had planned!

Tonight... Thu, 5 Sep 2013 09:12:05 EST Weight Loss Food Drive We at Fleet Feet just did a challenge in Rochester to Lose a Ton of Weight in 12 weeks. At the end of it, we celebrated with a party in the park where we offered a 2-mile hike, or yoga. We put out healthy snacks and water afterwards and honored the people with the highest percentage. All in all, we lost over 3600 pounds!
We asked everyone to come to the party with food for the local food bank to equal the pounds they lost. That was a huge hit! We had a few people who carried in 30... Mon, 2 Sep 2013 12:31:47 EST Incredible day at the museum I had the most unique experience today. I have been reading a fantastic book by the same auther as The Historian, one of my favorite books ever. It's called The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova.

Her writing style pulls you in so deeply that all I could think about as I read it is how much I loved Art History. The book talks about a modern day painter and goes back to Impressionists and other era's of art. The last few days I've really felt like the best way to really enjoy th... Sun, 16 Jun 2013 22:36:13 EST I got the job! What a great day! I sent one of those " just checking in" emails and she replied right away asking if I had time to chat today. I was all ready to run over there and she said she would call me after 3.

I was getting nervous even though I figured she wouldn't call me to say she wasn't going to hire me, she would have just sent me a nice email.

I decided that to kill time, I would get ready to go for a workout. No matter what happened it would either have me psyched a... Mon, 7 Jan 2013 22:20:07 EST Not at all what I intended to start my 2013 workouts! I got all this new stuff for Christmas, including cold weather gear for walk/running. I geared up tonight and went for a walk. The road was dry in all the areas I was walking. I was out across the street and a car came up behind me. I moved over a little to let the car go by and totally wiped out. I came down on my knee, tore my pants and shredded my knee pretty bad. The young couple was nice enough to stop and help me get up. The drove me home and got me inside where I now sit with ... Tue, 1 Jan 2013 18:30:30 EST One word answers... Mon, 22 Oct 2012 23:42:36 EST Beautiful moment on my training along the canal today I am in the process of training for my first 5K. I'm going to be going to Disney with my sister-in-law, brother and group of friends to celebrate her 40th. Her goal for this year was to run 4 Half Marathons, and finish at the Wine and Food Festival Half at Disney. I'm not at all a runner, and am so short, even a fast walk is tough for these little legs, but so far I seem to be doing alright.

I saw a beautiful sight today that I had to share with everyone. It's almost heartbreak... Fri, 5 Oct 2012 10:38:31 EST I gave up EXCUSES for Lent! I was looking at all the reasons I seem to find that I “can’t” get things done. Simple, weight loss basics like getting in my water every day, eating my fruits and veggies and getting at least 10 minutes of exercise a day. I decided that for Lent, I’m giving up Excuses.

There can’t be any kind of excuse that justifies most of these things, so to turn around the “giving up,” I decided to make it a positive twist and find a way to make these things happen.

Yesterday wa... Thu, 23 Feb 2012 10:32:52 EST Prayers Needed One of my coworkers lost his 10 year old daughter last night to a rare neurological disease.
Please keep John and his family in your prayers.
Thank you.
220 Tue, 15 Nov 2011 12:36:03 EST Dog Mourns at Casket of Fallen Navy SEAL This is such a touching (and tough) story, I had to share it. Fri, 26 Aug 2011 12:26:56 EST Happy 88th Dad! Today my family and I will celebrate my Dad's 88th birthday. He's still up and moving around and is truly an inspiration. Both of my parents are.

Dad goes to aerobics Tues and Thurs and hates it when his hip hurts him so much that he can't go. He doesn't look at it as an excuse, even though the doctor tells him to give it a break for awhile. All he wants to know is "Hey doc, when can I get back to my exercises!"

My Mom needs a walker, and is not as mobile. She needs... Sun, 15 May 2011 09:25:04 EST Nature's way of making me smile I am at my brother's ranch in the country dogsitting while he and his wife are out of town. I always love coming here because it's like going to a retreat. They are so far off the road, that there is very little to hear other than what's around you.

This morning I woke up and looked out my window. At first glance, I thought there was a dead deer on the side of the hill in the trees. I could see a snow-white stip in the woods. As I looked closer, I could see that it was actual... Mon, 2 May 2011 15:37:18 EST The Crunch Dilemma A couple weeks ago I went to a Kickboxing Class for the fist time. My favorite Zumba instructor was taking the day off so I thought I would try something new. I loved the class and after seeing how Zumba had given me more strength than I thought, I decided I was going to wake up every morning and do 100 crunches before I started my day.

Well, that worked great for four days. Then the weekend came and I had this and that thing going on and didn't do it. Tuesday rolled around and... Wed, 20 Apr 2011 16:51:24 EST 2 Banquets in One Day Survival Plan What a day!

Both girls have their basketball pizza party today. One is from noon to 2, with the other one right after. Then, when we are done with that, it's time for Sunday dinner at my brother's house with the whole family.

Here's my plan:

Breakfast- egg/ham/low-fat cheese sandwich on dry wheat toast

Lunch- take my own lunch with me to the first banquet. Eat that and then when the pizza comes out, sneak out the door and take a walk up and down... Sun, 20 Mar 2011 11:01:50 EST Difficult week but wonderful weekend I've been sick since I got home from my trip to Disney World. I went with my boyfriend and his kids and another family we like to hang out with.

I walked into their house on Saturday morning to find the kids buried in the computer again. We had at least 17" of gorgeous new snow on the ground and their wasn't a footprint out there. I thought about what a gold mine that would have been to me and my brothers as kids and I snapped. I told them to get off the computer and get read... Mon, 1 Mar 2010 11:11:21 EST Weight Loss After 40: Why it's so hard and what works (article from I just received this article from a friend of mine. I'm not sure why, but it's just one of those things that shows I need to focus, get organized, and set my priorities in order.

First the medical update. I had doctor appt last month that didn't go too well. I found I definately have a thyroid problem and my blood pressure is through the roof. The scariest part of it all though, was the EKG. He found 4 things that he circled and said we need to take care of.
<... Sun, 3 Jan 2010 10:15:58 EST In memory of Seth, a Marine I never knew I was driving home last night listening to NPR (National Public Radio) and hoping to find a way to refocus my plan to achieve my goal of weight loss. I didn't have a very positive weekend and really needed to motivate my way to sticking to it and making it happen.

As I was driving, I heard a report about a young Marine who had died in Afghanistan last week. He was a helicopter pilot who did what he needed to do to achieve his ultimate goal of becoming a Marine.

His f... Tue, 3 Nov 2009 10:29:21 EST Refocus Monday Once again I had a very busy, and out of my control weekend.
I babysat my brothers dog, so I slept and ate there a good chunk of the time. I did well with breakfast since I took fruit and Activia to be safe. I had a turkey rollup (with too much cheese) for lunch on Saturday.
After baking all morning (and not even licking my fingers!) I was out and meeting up with the kids. We had a huge Halloween party to go to that had a pot luck dinner. I probably shouldn't have had the pasta ... Mon, 26 Oct 2009 16:47:46 EST From the mouths of babes... My 9-yr old said the funniest thing last night after dinner.

First off, I was so proud of her. She said she didn't have pizza like they usually have on Friday, because "it looked so greasy, even if I used a napkin like you do on the stuff you get us at home, I still think it would be nasty!" WooHoo! It's working! She knew to wipe off the extra calories, and chose not to eat it still..yeah!

so the funny part....
She said she had the macaroni and cheese instead. ... Fri, 23 Oct 2009 15:37:01 EST Best lunch ever! I met a good friend of mine today for lunch. I haven't seen her in two weeks. During that time, I have refocused my energy into doing things rignt on SP.

I had my hair in a ponytail and had a red shirt on. She kept looking at me kind of weird and finally said "OK, it's not that your hair is back or that your shirt is causing it... How much weight have you lost since I saw you?" YEAH!!!!!!!!!! She said she kept analyzing things before she said anything.. no, it's not that her h... Tue, 20 Oct 2009 16:55:27 EST I just blew off a banquet for my new Wii Fit Plus! I was reading about the new Wii Fit Plus today and decided to go get it. I love my Wii
Fit, but this sounded like a great addition, and a lot of fun.
I was supposed to go to a banquet tonight. I was asked last week by a woman I am volunteering with. She never gave me to details so I decided if she called I would go, if not, I would play.
Well, the word is that I got a great workout and didn't have to worry about the kind of food that they were serving! I never heard from ... Mon, 19 Oct 2009 18:06:41 EST A well planned weekend I was able to keep myself in line all weekend for the first time in a long time.

I took Saturday and stayed home to get caught up on things that I haven't had time for. I had a light lunch and breakfast and then joined Jerry and the kids for soup and sandwich for dinner.

today they all wanted pizza for lunch. I made myself a wrap and avoided it completely.

My brother is making a big dinner for everyone so I'll just stick with making good choices tonight an... Sun, 18 Oct 2009 15:50:19 EST I guess I really didn't want that! I cheated a little at lunch yesterday and had a half sandwich and caesar salad from Panera Bread Co.
My downfall is their potato chips, so instead of asking for an apple, I got the chips. I figured I'd only eat a few (yeah right!), that I could control it.

I ate the first one, and honestly it tasted horrible. Too salty and greasy. One of the girls asked if she could have one so I held out the bag for her. As I reached back to pour them onto my plate and decide if I even w... Fri, 16 Oct 2009 14:13:03 EST And the winner is..... ME!! I knew this meeting was going to be a tough one.
It was scheduled for lunch, which means gourmet pizza and wings from the wonderful place around the corner. (I'm in Rochester, NY, so when I say wings, I mean the REAL thing here!!)

I had a banana about 20 minutes before I had to leave. I then drank an Activia on the way there. I got a water as soon as I walked in the door.

The seat next to me remained open, so where does the pizza go? Right there next to me. The ... Wed, 14 Oct 2009 14:43:56 EST 8:30 AM Cupcakes? Really? My break room is the most dangerous room I know of.

I was walking to my desk at 8:30 this morning, and MW walked by me carrying a container filled with Halloween decorated cupcakes! It's 8:30 in the morning!

My boyfriend and I had the rare opportunity to go out to breakfast this morning, so my lunch is a Healty Choice soup and an Activia to balance my calories out. Now I have to avoid the cupcakes too!!

There is no room in my calorie count for a cupcake, so ... Mon, 12 Oct 2009 10:10:43 EST 3:00 and all's well ! 3:00 always marks a group of coworkers headed to the breakroom for a snack. We usually have ice cream in the freezer, and all the goodies to go with it. This week I was proud of myself for not giving in and eating it. Instead I sat and had a cup of tea and just visited.

Most everyone has gone home for the day, and I realized at 3:00, nobody came by. I starting craving a snack, so I thought about the Milano's in the breakroom. Fortunately for me, I also remembered I had some su... Fri, 9 Oct 2009 16:27:08 EST Did I really just do that? There I was sitting in the breakroom drinking tea and reading a magazine. All of a sudden, 4 people come in and say "oohhh, you're here for the party! It's leftover time."

Within 2 minutes, the leftover chocolate cake, white cake, heavenly hash ice cream, peanut butter swirl ice cream, chocolate chip ice cream, rainbow sprinkles, hot fudge, whipped cream and peanuts were on the table.

And I just sat there!
I really did, I just sat there!

I read my mag... Wed, 7 Oct 2009 15:18:22 EST I'm surrounded by junk food eaters! What a day to test my will power!

I went to a meeting this morning after breakfast and got a glass of water to sip during the meeting. Jeannie is sitting at her desk eating a bag of chips and says, "man, I'm starving!" She gets up, goes to the vending machine and gets a full size 3 Musketeers bar and a Sprite. Then Jeremy shows up and he's got a Pepsi and a bag of Pork Rinds! Are you kidding me??? This was 10:00 in the morning! They asked if I needed to get anything before we... Tue, 6 Oct 2009 15:18:23 EST Double dose of bad news` Today I went to my doctor because I think I have plantar fasciatus again. Oh lucky me, he's pretty sure I do, and is sending me to a podiatrist so I can work on it again. If it's as bad as last time, it mean very little, if any exercise... so here I am again with another reason why I can't work out.

then he says he wants to talk about my bloodwork, and that it looks like there might be a problem with my thyroid. He said the results are "slow, steady weight gain." Hello!! What... Wed, 30 Sep 2009 17:38:53 EST Thank you Starbucks! I have been going back and forth with trying and not trying to get back into my program of eating well and exercising. The summer got away from me with my boyfriend and his kids and how many other things I let pile up to use as excuses.

Last week, Wednesday, to be exact, I had to leave my office to pick up something down the road. On the way back I decided to treat myself to an ice tea from Starbucks because I had done pretty well the day before with getting back into control. W... Wed, 9 Sep 2009 14:42:34 EST I'm addicted to Another Sentence Game OK, I admit it! I'm addicted. I find myself trying to come up with different words, or looking at odd things and thinking I need to remember them in case their letter comes up! It's insane.

It's gotten so bad, that 2 of my friends at work are now doing an internal email at the office in a rotation. One of my friends is also on SP, so we would tell each other if we entered a particularly funny one, and when Kelli heard about it, she wanted in, but isn't on SP, so we started our... Wed, 11 Mar 2009 00:39:24 EST V8 V-Fusion Light... yummy! I am NOT one who likes any kind of vegetable drink! The thought of it turns my stomach!

I tried South Beach awhile back, and they kept wanting me to drink Tomato Juice or V8 juice for breakfast. I ended up having carrots on the way to work. I couldn't even get the glass to my lips!

Then they came out with V-Fusion so I bought a bottle. It wasn't supposed to taste anything like the veggie drinks so I figured it would be an easy way to get some veggies in. It was horr... Thu, 12 Feb 2009 17:06:28 EST 9- year old migraine Poor Bethany. On Saturday she threw up 5 times. She said it wasn't like her usual headaches, but she missed out on a great meal, and going to the museum with her cousins and sister.
The doctor today told us it was migraines that did it all. She's on a new med to try and block them and we'll see him in a week.
I hope that helps.
Today she was back to normal for the first time in a long time. She looked better and her adorable personality was here, and you could see it in her... Mon, 26 Jan 2009 21:46:13 EST My Fitness Trainer Just got home from getting the Fitness Trainer game and got it set up on my boyfriends Wii. I did the first workout and it seems like it will be a great tool to help out.
the hard part is fitting it into the tracking system for points. I'll have to play with that a bit. Tue, 30 Dec 2008 16:46:10 EST wow did that feel good! I did mine, did you do yours? Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I got up this morning and headed out the door at 8 AM with about 36degrees to do my personal 5K that I mapped out.

Everyone I passed looked happier to be exercising than I've ever seen them. I'm sure they, like me, were seeing their dinner plate and knowing it was worth the effort we were putting into our morning!

I made record time for me, so I was even happier! I made a quick call to my brother in Dallas to tell him to have a Turkey ... Thu, 27 Nov 2008 09:29:52 EST Willpower wins this week! I am so excited today! I've been hit by all kinds of challenges this week, and I've made it past all of them.

My boyfriend and his daughters wanted chicken wings on Tues night, so I made that for them (Tyson, 160 calories for 2!!!), and grilled myself a turkey breast and made a big salad to put it on. They thought I was crazy but were very happy that they all got to eat my share!

We had a birthday party at work yesterday. I had to go and get a Triple Chocolate Cake alo...
