A couple of geogal friends came over to help and we made a party of it.

Back from my 50 min walk/run. What a gorgeous morning to get out there in the forest and stretch some muscles, breath deep, get up a sweat, crank the rock and roll and suck up the gorgeousness of the day.

However, as soon as I returned home there wa... Tue, 4 Sep 2012 17:00:18 EST Get On The Bus

My title is appropriate for this Sep 04, our back to school day. As usual summer holiday was far too short.

An SP update blog. Writing, always feels good. My writing always needs rewriting.

Party hardy last night. Didn't quite get to tell off the preacher, but it was close.

Today, the silly scale is back at 131lbs. Has to be muscle, right? Running (o... Tue, 4 Sep 2012 11:48:43 EST Looking forward to some summertime R&R. This picture was taken on Thursday at Butchart Gardens. Loosing almost 40 lbs looks good, eh? ;)

It's already the August long weekend and E has the last of 25 radiation treatments on Tuesday. Then that part is done and we await surgery in five weeks. I didn't know how I was going to get through it, but I was there for every treatment. It will be wonderful to not have to go to the Cancer Agency every d... Sat, 4 Aug 2012 11:19:20 EST What doesn't kill you, makes you a better cook. It's about time... on my partner's battle with fibrosarcoma, some good news ... according to the CT scan done this week the cancer has not spread to her lungs. We are once again breathing, and even smiling. We've learned that after radiation and surgery, the odds of E being dead from the disease are 8%, with an 8% +/- error within 12 years. It's not perfect, but we are moving forward with the odds on our side. ... Sat, 14 Jul 2012 23:40:28 EST The Victory Room Defeat is not an option and the odds are still on our side. I've got a Victory Room in the making: white boards, cork boards, file folders, calendars, electronic journals, wish lists, must do lists, meal planner, etc. Last week was a myriad of phone calls to dr offices, support people, forms, and the ubiquitous 150 final report cards.

Next week ... the radiation simulation, meeting with support people, my 4th mri guided cortisone shot into my shoulder, and finishing the school's ... Sun, 17 Jun 2012 12:54:29 EST 180 degrees to sad This is a picture of Eileen a couple of hours after surgery in May. We hit the 1000 level on Jumbline 2.

Never a dull moment in my life.

So ... we went to Vancouver for E's little surgery and E's Mom was here for a month and she left a couple of Fridays ago.

Now, after the pathology report and the doctors holidays, the non-cancerous tumor in E's leg... is now cancer, a rare low-g... Wed, 13 Jun 2012 12:04:42 EST Catching Up - Almost May There is so much going on right now... full plate and it's not even calories.
Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.-- John Lennon

First, I'm still in the 130's, 132.6 this morning. I can't seem to get rid of these last 10 pounds, but I'm not quitting.

Second, E has to go to Vancouver for surgery to remove a tumor in her leg. It's not cancer, but it has a life of it's own and everyone wants it out. That happens on Friday, and with tests... Sun, 29 Apr 2012 21:22:22 EST The sun is shining and I'm going for a walk. After the freezing came out of the mri guided cortisone to shoulder injection, I took a couple of days to feel myself again. Friday wasn't as bad a pain day as I feared, although it was bad I was prepared. I had planned to take it easy that day, but Saturday was non-stop activity. There was a dinner out at the pub, with 50 other geocachers, where the best shepherds pie on the planet was devoured, with loads of yummy wine. ;) Earlier that day, after getting downtown early to browse the sto... Wed, 7 Mar 2012 12:10:09 EST Mar 1, 2012 Update The sun is shining and i'm going to relax today. Not sure how that is going to happen but I'm going to do my best.
I started the morning with a drive to the hospital for an appointment with a radiologist, an MRI, and a few cc of freezing and cortisone pumped into my left shoulder. This was the second go round, maybe it will work this time.

Back at home... It's a beautiful day here. Out my window the birds are chattering non-stop. And some crow wants to be the top talker. The... Thu, 1 Mar 2012 13:48:36 EST Smoothies - The Not Chocolate Chocolate Shake The SparkPeople Cookbook is a big book with a wealth of information and inspiring stories. We jumped right in to the recipes and hope to blog about our experiences.

This week we are talking about Smoothies.

We learned SparkGuy likes a veggie smoothie and Coach Nicole likes to keep it simply fruity. Smoothies are fine as a snack and as a meal replacement, but count the calories going into it. One can quickly add unwanted and unnecessary calories using the wrong kind o... Sun, 15 Jan 2012 15:56:37 EST Oatmeal This is the first of hopefully more observations on food, life, and getting healthy as E and I work our way through The SparkPeople Cookbook.

Stepfanie's Oatmeal.

E is a big oatmeal fan. Moi, not so much. Not even a little. I love an oatmeal cookie and oats in bread but pour hot liquid on it and call it a meal... I don't think so. I've never like the slimy stuff. And, as this recipe calls for nuts, the meal requires lots of chewing which means the slimy stuff must s... Mon, 9 Jan 2012 18:12:09 EST Plans for January and Health Update The SparkPeople Cookbook was under my tree this holiday! As well as Coach Nicole's most excellent first two videos, and The Spark, the book. I guess you could call us committed. 198

We are very A type people in our house. We watch very little tv. There is almost always time for a project in the kitchen.

New project: Creating every recipe in the SparkPeople CookBook.

I think it's ... Thu, 5 Jan 2012 16:20:23 EST I Wear Purple Day! Stop homophobic bullies. Bullying is never nice and the smallest of kids do it and are victims of it. Homophobic bullying does cause death. Remember the movie "The Children's Hour."
Wed, 20 Oct 2010 10:45:08 EST I had all my ducks lined up... I'm off to Vancouver to Drupal's Pacific North West Summit. Drupal is a 'must know' Content Management System. CMS, and it's server configuration, is my speciality.

Trips are exciting. When I'm excited I eat all the wrong stuff.
Well, I'm going to change that routine, somehow.

Vancouver is a half day away. It's a 15 drive up the Pat Bay Highwayto board the ferry in Swartz Bay. ... Fri, 1 Oct 2010 12:40:04 EST And then there was my health... My health has always taken a back seat on the bus of my priorities. I think life was way too interesting to mind anything more than ..... well, nothing. I was always mostly healthy... there wasn't a problem, until there was a problem.

Now, approaching 60, I'm changing my mind about my health. First, I quit smoking. That was huge. From that comes the rest of it, the nutrition and activity that wi... Thu, 30 Sep 2010 18:31:02 EST
