CNELSON5411's SparkPeople Blog CNELSON5411's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community December has not been kind For that matter neither was November. It shows how easy I can jump down the rosey path of self indulgence and lack of exercise!

It started with the weather change and the fact I am now babysitting my grand kids several days a week. found lots of excuses not to get out and walk, been getting better about that or finding alternate indoor exercise (cardio dancing, stair stepper etc) but no where close to the shape I was in this summer. I feel it not only physically but the emotiona... Sat, 15 Dec 2012 16:37:24 EST Feeling like I will never catch up I feel so far behind! My daughter was in the hospital for 7 days and during that time I was at the hospital 12 to 16 hours a day and at night was caring for her 2 month old daughter. Needless to say I got nothing done, except a lot of baby cuddling and a lot of worrying about my twenty year old!

Good news is she is doing much better and the crisis has passed due to some very expensive medicine (Panhematin) which is used to treat the disease we have in our family (porphyria). Thi... Thu, 15 Nov 2012 01:22:29 EST Yeah got to enjoy a wonderful walk today! My daughter and I loaded up the baby and her stroller and went down to the bike path since the rain went away today and enjoyed a 3 mile walk along the river! It felt so good to get to go out walking after two weeks of back pain followed by hip pain!

We pushed the stroller along the bike path down to the old dam, enjoying the scenery along the way.

If we get more days like this we will be going again for... Thu, 25 Oct 2012 22:37:04 EST My struggles this week My son in law went back to work (thank you God!) this week but this impacts my schedule severely and I had a tough week finding a balance. I usually walk as soon as its light enough to be safe and if I miss that window I have to wait till 9am as the road is way too busy to be safe. Well I have had a 4 year old and a soon to be 2 year old all week starting at about 6 am which means walking has been gotten in (if at all after then go home, praying for light and one day in the dark which was k... Sat, 6 Oct 2012 21:17:05 EST Home by Philip Philips Home by Philip Philips has become one of my favorite walking songs. It has a good beat to walk with and helps keep me on pace, but that is not the main reason. When I walk to this song I think about the US women gymnastic team. Their ups and their downs, how they stuck together and pulled each other along. They had individual highs and lows. The low for Jordan for not qualifying for the All Around, the success for her to be the one who brought home the team Gold for them with her final f... Sun, 9 Sep 2012 12:00:39 EST My journey I was never a skinny minny All through high school I was about 150 lbs, was considered fat by my mother who had no problem saying "stuff " about my weight. Can't you suck in that stomach etc. Actually she still does, usually in front of as many people as she can. Or her other one is to tell complete strangers that she doesn't go to my house its too dusty or other slaps at my housekeeping skills. Looking back the weight was probably a good weight for me. I am a big girl, 5' 10" and other ... Mon, 3 Sep 2012 21:46:14 EST I think my carbo loading of last week has caught up to me Last week when I had to carbo load for a couple days and increase my calorie intake some I thought I got away with it. Today I think it caught up with me. No this was my bathroom scale and not the WII scale I use for my official weight but it shows me up about two lbs today. I am hoping its water weight as I tend to hold water during full moons (how weird is that?) and I hope it sheds quickly but it was discouraging lol.

So this am even thought I was already above my fitness mi... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 15:31:44 EST Gonna pull myself out of funk Am feeling a little better today and planned myself a busy weekend to pull myself out of my funk. I got enough tomatoes to make a lot of Spaghetti sauce, and some blackberries for Blackberry pie filling (made with splenda of course :)

The problem with porphyria attacks is they can also mess with your moods, and I totally know my not feeling well this week has lead to my blue mood and its time to slap myself and get with it! Fri, 24 Aug 2012 15:10:41 EST Food decisions So its mid morning and I am hungry so I decide it snack time. I wander into the kitchen and look in the fridge deciding what to have. So I find a string cheese, okay not bad 80 calories however I know that it wont be that satisfying or last very long, so I pull out my favorite bread, San Juan Island 9 grain and have a piece of toast with the smallest slather of marj (less than 1/2 a serving) which is more calories however with the fiber in it and the amount of "chew satisfaction" I know it ... Wed, 15 Aug 2012 12:58:52 EST Of Smoke, Red Tailed Hawks, and Wild Turkeys Living in the country always has its interesting adventures while walking. The smoke is hanging in the air which makes the air yucky. We have serveral wild fires burning in southern oregon and the smoke always settles into the valley where I live, so we have "chewable air". I set off on my walk today determined to go a bit further and a bit faster as I have not made it out in several days. The first couple by my choice as my hips and right foot has been bothering me, yesterday I had been... Sun, 12 Aug 2012 13:24:00 EST Observations Six days a week I get up at the crack of dawn and walk for two miles. Its my time with my music, my time for me. I started it about three weeks ago and I have discovered how much I enjoy it. I noticed today a few things. I live in the country and I walk on one of the main roads out here, homes with some property, fields mostly. I have gotten used to, the last three weeks being squawked at by these three Red Tailed Hawks that hunt in the various fields. One day there was one sitting on t... Mon, 23 Jul 2012 12:48:38 EST
