CLRWILLIAMS25's SparkPeople Blog CLRWILLIAMS25's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Hello from the Trail! Just in case you haven't been following along, I thought I'd post in here that we're still alive and hiking! We are a few days past the 800 mile mark- less than 1,400 miles to go! We are more than half way through our home state (Virginia).
So far, Jimi has lost over 20 pounds and I have gained about 5 pounds. Some of my gain is muscle (hello definition in my legs!), but some of the gain is definitely noticeable in my stomach, and not in a good way. Working on eating healthier foo... Wed, 17 Jun 2015 09:33:05 EST Link to Trail Blog- 13 Days Until We Start! As of now, I have roughly 12 hours worth of work left until I am officially unemployed! I wanted to let you all know that we FINALLY finished updating our trail blog, and can share the link!

We are flying to Atlanta on the 19th and start walking on the 22nd. I'm so excited to get going, I can barely get anything else done! We had a going away party this weekend, and were pleasantly surprised at the number of people who ... Mon, 9 Mar 2015 12:13:52 EST Gearing up! (with gear pics!) I have been needing to write a blog on here for a while, but have been super busy (who isn’t lol). My time has been spent either cutting/prepping, cooking and dehydrating food for the trip or trying to organize and pack our stuff. We are moving on Saturday, so naturally, I’m freaking out. Lots more to pack, need more small boxes etc. We also had a decent amount of snow (around 8 inches, which in southeast VA terms, is like a blizzard!). Thankfully, I had a snow day yesterday, so we manag... Wed, 18 Feb 2015 08:38:17 EST It’s official We are getting to the point in our Appalachian Trail plans where turning back isn’t really an option. We gave notice to our landlord before the first of the year that we won’t be renewing our lease on March 1. We bought one-way tickets to Atlanta last week. Yesterday morning, I told my boss and coworker that March 6th will be my last day with the company (unless a work trip moves to the following week. Then, I will work an extra week to not leave my coworker in a bind doing a data collect... Wed, 14 Jan 2015 08:57:23 EST New Year's Resolutions/Goals I always get all nostalgic at the end of a year and the beginning of a new one. I love looking back and thinking of all the great things that happened, but I also look forward to the great things that will happen in the new year.

Looking back on last year, I had 4 main goals:
-Switch to buying all organic meat and dairy products
-Follow the 52 week money challenge
-Train for and run another 1/2 marathon race
-Find a new job

I think I did pretty we... Tue, 6 Jan 2015 22:00:38 EST Super Awesome Life-Changing News! Prelude...
I'd written in my New Year's Resolution blog that I wanted to try to do the 52 week money challenge. It is a challenge to put a $ amount into a jar for each week, adding $1 for week 1 and increasing by $1 each week, culminating in adding $52 to the jar for week 52. DH and I faithfully added money to the jar every week (2x the amount listed, as there are two of us participating). About a month ago, we decided what we're going to use the money for, decided to count what we ha... Mon, 24 Nov 2014 08:02:30 EST November Update Being true to Christy form, I haven't written a blog in awhile, and I don't have too much going on at the moment! First, a follow-up to my previous blog for those who want to know how my experiment went:

Alcohol and sugar:
I managed to make it to my goal date without added sugar! It was hard and sometimes I hated it, but I made it! As far as alcohol goes, I still consider it a success. I did have a few sips of bourbon while on our backpacking trip (like .5oz total for the ... Tue, 18 Nov 2014 08:24:58 EST No Sugar and No Alcohol Update I made it through a full week! 104

Sugar: Well, the cravings are still here. I’ve switched to eating sweet foods without added sugar, which I guess, is better than eating a ton treat foods (eg, having a frozen banana blended with plain greek yogurt or eating an apple/strawberries/grapes instead of _____). My cravings are happening at night. Not sure if there’s something else triggering it, or if it’s because prior to last week, I used to eat my treats sometime aft... Mon, 20 Oct 2014 14:19:09 EST The Time Has Come I’ve been whining a lot about what I’ve been eating, but I really have no ground to stand on because I’m not doing anything about it! I am literally complaining about eating too many sweets, and then going and buying (or getting DH to buy) more sweets! And this all culminated in us going to Sweet Frog in lieu of having dinner last week. Yes, we did that.

Well, the time has come for me to do something about it, starting today and going through the end of the month.

My... Mon, 13 Oct 2014 11:00:05 EST October Check-In So my goals are going okay so far. If you count the end of September, I did complete my 10 miles, did two yoga videos, tried out IF on the weekend and made a new recipe! I had 14 hour fasts on Saturday and Sunday, which is more than normal. Much easier to control when I eat when I am home. I would also include 'what I eat,' but that is not my strong suit right now...

Everything else is pretty blah. I think I need to eat more food during the day so I don't get so ravenous when I... Mon, 6 Oct 2014 20:54:34 EST October Goals Well, it's been awhile since I started the month off with some concrete goals! Happy to report I thought of something things I want to achieve BEFORE the start of the month.

Goals for October:
- Run 10 miles per week
- Do yoga video 2-3 times per week
- Aim to stick to IF on at least one weekend day this month (and all of the weekdays)
- Make 1 new recipe per week

I think two fitness goals and two healthy eating goals is a good start for Octo... Wed, 1 Oct 2014 09:24:52 EST Backpacking Trip! I have been meaning to write a blog, and keep putting it off for some reason.

DH’s internship did not turn into the job he had hoped it might, and he is still looking for jobs in his field. Therefore, he is back to bartending. This is good financially right now because the internship really cut into our income all summer. He is actively looking for something new (if you know anyone who needs an entry-level GIS person, we’re open to moving!).

DH and I celebrated our 3... Mon, 22 Sep 2014 20:02:12 EST Exercise! And Weekend Plan In my blog on Monday, I posted that we were trying to finish the Fitnessblender 5 Day Workout Challenge (Link to Day 1 below). Wed, 27 Aug 2014 11:37:31 EST Another "What I've been up to the past month" blog Trying to keep it short and sweet. My main goals for the week is to exercise every day (even if it is just a short walk) and to make good food choices at every opportunity.

Not so Positive:
Another weekend in the bag, another without the structure that helps me to maintain my fitness/eating plan. I still struggle with eating too much or having too many drink calories when I do anything outside of my normal weekday routine. It's a problem because the fun parts of life are u... Mon, 25 Aug 2014 12:08:21 EST Blog blog So after posting exciting photos for everyone, I kind-of promised a workout/food blog was coming. As usual, it's easier for me to post a blog when I have something exciting to say.

Unfortunately for you, today is not that day 100

Since getting back from Vegas, I've actually been eating really well. We’ve made dinner every night and packed lunches for the next day. Lots of salads and lean protein. It’s great. I’ve kept my carbs way down (like, lowest ... Fri, 18 Jul 2014 14:35:25 EST Vacation Blog with pics! (workout blog to follow) Sorry I’ve been MIA for so long! I do have a smartphone now (yay!), but it didn’t work in Germany and I wasn’t really on it when I was in Las Vegas. Life recap for the past month:

Germany:

I LOVED Germany! The food was great, the wine and beer were great, and I got to walk to do things, which is something I can’t do where I live now. Running was awesome, because I constantly had new things to look at. I actually gain zero weight while I was in Germany b... Mon, 14 Jul 2014 19:57:05 EST How is it already June?? Made it through a weekend with friends visiting and a holiday weekend. Weekends are my tough spots, so that is an improvement.
I've been trying to follow the exercise plan my sister and I made, but had to mix it up a lit... Mon, 12 May 2014 12:12:44 EST April Goals Recap and New May Goals I always feel like a new month is a great time to re-evaluate what you're doing and to try to push yourself a little bit more.

April Goals Recap:
**Cut out weekday drinking!
** Go to abs class at the gym on Mondays
** Keep up with intermittent fasting on weekdays
** Exercise outside at least 2 days per week
** Track food and exercise every day

Minus the camping trip that started on a Thursday, and the hanging out with BFF this past Monday, I s... Wed, 9 Apr 2014 07:57:11 EST Race Report and April Goals Remember when I had new goals for every month and reflected on my monthly goals at the end of every month? Yeah, I do too. And it worked well!

Race report!
I ran the Monument Avenue 10k in Richmond this past Saturday. The day started out misty then changed to rain, but temps were nice (55* early, up to 67* later on). My wave started around 8:45am. I was in a seeded runner wave (8:40something pace) , which was totally new to me. Since I have really be struggling to get ... Thu, 3 Apr 2014 09:32:35 EST I Need to Blog More- Episode 2 Once again, I keep putting off blogging until I have something profound to say, which of course hasn't happened yet lol

So once again, here is my "this is what Christy's been up to" blog...

Last week was a bad week for workouts, but before that, I was working out on a decent schedule and most of the time, DH joined in, or we at least did the same video if we weren't going to see each other that day. Small victory!

I've started easing myself into testing out i... Wed, 5 Mar 2014 20:37:36 EST These are my confessions Yeah, sing it like Usher lol

Ugh, I guess I'll start a the end of last week when everything was going well. I had commented to DH that all week I hadn't really had an appetite. That may be normal for some people, but I am one of those bottomless pit people. Always hungry. Anyhoo, I was at the very bottom of my calorie range every day for the week and exercised almost every day (thank you new garmin lol). I felt good, I felt in charge and I felt like I was in a good position to... Wed, 22 Jan 2014 18:38:31 EST Getting to Know Me Stole this from IAMZBEE. Fri, 17 Jan 2014 15:14:56 EST Need to blog more often I've actually had 2 partial blogs written during the past 2 weeks, and ended up scrapping them. I keep waiting until I have something profound to say, and yet here I am giving you all the usual 'this is what Christy's been up to lately' blog.

-I'm trying to get back into tracking my food. I've tracked everything this week, which is a huge improvement.
- I got an entry to a 10k as a Christmas gift this year! Race is March 29th. My mom also registered for the race (she is... Wed, 15 Jan 2014 12:19:01 EST New Year's Resolutions I know a lot of people think they're stupid, but I like to have a little list of goals for the new year. I keep the list in my wallet, so I see it often and actually remember what my goals are!

2013 Goals:
-Pay off credit cards 248
-Call a friend/family member 1x/week
-Run a 1/2 marathon 248
-Make weekly meal plans

I met 2 of my goals and worked towards the other two. Mon, 23 Dec 2013 08:40:25 EST 30 Day Yoga Challenge I came across this video last night when I was looking for a bedtime yoga sequence to do. I did the first video today. Thought I'd share it with you all just in case you wanted to join in. All of the videos look to be between 10 and 20 minutes long. There's 30 different videos, all by I'm hoping to stick with these videos, especially with holiday travel coming up. Nice way to get a short, stress-busting workout in.

Mon, 16 Dec 2013 20:37:42 EST Quick Update We had a huge project due Thursday at work. Lots of hours last week leading up to it. I FINALLY went to the doctor Friday to see if this cough was more than just a cough (after 12 days, I'd guessed as much!). I have bronchitis :( It's viral, so I just have to wait it out and treat the symptoms. I also have pleurisy (which I'd never heard of) where the lining of your chest wall and lungs becomes inflamed. The inflammation causes friction when they layers rub against each other, which hurt... Sun, 15 Dec 2013 10:53:33 EST Fit2Feast Days 11-13 I need to admit up front here that I did not do a workout after work on the 11th. I have a ton of excuses lined up, but I will spare you. An excuse if just an excuse.

Day 12: Woke up at 3 to get ready and head to the airport. The only positive was that the plane was ridiculously empty, so I got the row to myself. I couldn't fall back to sleep, but I did rest, so that was nice. I ate a Kashi bar waiting for my connection, and also walked around a lot. If you've ever connecte... Wed, 13 Nov 2013 18:10:55 EST Fit2Feast Days 6-10
I want to wish our past and present military members a happy Veterans Day! Mon, 11 Nov 2013 12:07:54 EST Fit2Feast Day 5 A Voluntary Butt-Kicking and Hiking Pics Ever have one of those days where you say to yourself, "Man, I really need a good butt kicking today!"? Yeah, most people don't lol

Well, I had one of those moments today. Tue, 5 Nov 2013 20:25:35 EST Fit2Feast Day 4 I started Fit2Feast a bit early, but figured it would be better to be on the same day as everyone else in the blog world, hence day 4 today.

We spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the mountains (link to trail below). We hiked for about an hour Friday night. We were hiking with headlamps and made it somewhere near the notch along the southern end of the loop. We would have seen an epic sunrise from the ridge, but slept in till 8:30 and missed the exciting part.
Saturday... Mon, 4 Nov 2013 19:24:35 EST HCC and Fit2Feast Day 3 Took some advice from GREGGWEISBROD and put my workout clothes on right after I got home. Still had a snack, played candycrush (I know! I'm addicted...) and read some of my book. And like magic, I had to do my workout because I already had the outfit on!

I had originally planned to do some relaxing yoga, but Fitnessblender and Blogilates just posted new videos, so I did them both.

Links:

ail/Abs-Boot-Camp-Wor... Wed, 30 Oct 2013 20:43:20 EST HCC and Fit2Feast I've joined a few challenges to get me motivated to finish the year strong. Thankfully, they go hand in hand!

The Healthy Christmas Countdown (conceptualized by my sparkfriend Maria) focuses on drinking plenty of water, eating clean, controlling portions, squeezing in as much exercise as possible and getting enough sleep.

Sparkpeople came up with the Fit2Feast Challenge. The goal is to get 10 minutes of exercise every day up until Thanksgiving.

Hoping ... Tue, 29 Oct 2013 20:17:32 EST Ah, I work out! And now that's stuck in my head lol

Didn't do so well yesterday. I managed to stick to my plan for the wine, but didn't exercise at all. I got home from work at 4:30 and our out of town friend was already here with DH, so I didn't do my workout.

Side note: Every time I make an excuse like the one above, I always think about "If you want it, you'll find a way. If you don't you'll find an excuse."

^^ Major excuse alert^^^

So today, I did t... Fri, 25 Oct 2013 19:19:50 EST New Pants, New Outlook I was dropping a few bags of items off at the thrift store this week and decided to go in an look for some new work pants. This store has clothes separated by size, which is nice. Apparently, my long lost twin just donated like 15 pairs of pants- I had over 10 pairs that I brought to the dressing room to try on! I ended up buying 4 pairs ($22 total!). And I'm wearing a pair right now. And I feel awesome and important-looking lol.

Anyways... here's the pilates video t... Thu, 24 Oct 2013 09:00:22 EST Small Steps I think I may start posting a few small steps for each day to get me on the right track, one day at a time. I need something to hold me accountable. Ideally, I'll do this the night beforehand instead of while I'm procrastinating at work 334

1. Make an actual dinner. And eat it in the kitchen.
2. Do the pilates video I've had up on my computer for over a week.
3. Make some tea instead of snacking.
4. Knock some chores off of my to-do list.
... Tue, 22 Oct 2013 15:19:26 EST Whitewater Rafting Trip (with pics) Back from our whitewater rafting trip on the Gauley River! OH MY GOSH it was so fun! Everyone managed to stay in the raft the entire time. The group camped next to us had 4 people get knocked out of the raft and one of them got his front teeth knocked out by a paddle, so we definitely consider ourselves lucky!

We went with one of my friends from high school (actually middle school) and one of his coworkers. The weather in WV is actually less predictable and crazier than in VA. ... Mon, 14 Oct 2013 09:17:29 EST It's Already October?!?! Seriously, this year is flying by!

September started of really strong. Workouts every day, with Jimi participating when he was off work. Life happened and regular exercise and healthy eating went by the wayside. I was probably 50/50 with healthy eating. I still get into this all or nothing mode, which I really need to work on. I did manage to drink the recommended amount of water each day and didn't go more than 2 days without some form of exercise. I'm still maintaining on t... Thu, 3 Oct 2013 14:33:43 EST Mini Update First- Fitness and Food

I've been doing really well with exercise so far this month. Doing different workouts, doing yoga when I need to stretch out and rest from more intense workouts. I really need to step it up with my eating. I did okay last week, but went a little overboard over the weekend during our camping trip. I think I did fine on food and alcohol for the weekend, minus an ungodly amount of cake.

Other stuff-

DH got into a really bad car accid... Tue, 17 Sep 2013 11:45:06 EST My Week in Workouts (with links) Well, for the first time in awhile, I'm really proud of my workouts for the week! I actually did different workouts and finally got some intensity to my workouts

Sunday: 3 mile run at the beach with J
Monday: did this short pilates video in the morning (J slept in)

detail.asp?video=96

Tuesday: This workout KICKED OUR BUTTS!

ail/Total-Body-Tabata-Workou... Fri, 6 Sep 2013 11:24:55 EST Quick Update Before the Long Weekend
August recap:
Well, I did slightly better with meal planning, got a few runs under my belt and cut out some of my “go to” processed foods. A major theme during the month was my lack of exercise. The only reason I came closer to my 1,000 fitness minutes goal was because of our backpacking trip. I think I did 3 morning workout for the entire month… And maybe 3 HIIT workouts…

For September, I really want to have a workout schedule written down. Last night Jimi told me ... Fri, 30 Aug 2013 12:56:33 EST First Excursion on the AT (w/ pics) Ok, well it did rain on our parade, but that didn't stop us from having a great time! Rain held off until about 10:30 pm Saturday night, which was great.

This was our first time hiking on the Appalachian Trail, started just outside the southern end of Shenandoah National Park. We hiked about 8.3 miles in about 4 hours, with a stop for a break/lunch around mile 5. We crossed over a few (east coast-sized) mountain, so there was a lot of ascending and descending, with very litt... Tue, 20 Aug 2013 10:11:19 EST Not Gonna Rain on Our Parade AKA- we're still going camping/backpacking this weekend.

Jimi already took off work for Saturday and Sunday, so we're going, despite the impending doom of a soggy weekend. We've pretty much mastered camping in the rain, but have yet to deal with rain while backpacking. I did a lot of research online on what gear we would need to at least be decently comfortable this weekend. Our plan is to buy pack covers, wear our moisture-wicking quick-dry pants and shirts that we already have... Fri, 16 Aug 2013 12:57:12 EST Sometimes, the Truth Hurts I am going to be blunt here.

I have been overeating (by a lot) and barely exercising. As in, counting my walk after lunch as my daily exercise and then coming home and eating pretty solidly from 4:30 until I go to bed. And stopping tracking once I get home. I'm not even exaggerating. I was at 116 at the end of the day yesterday! Yeah, a full 6 pounds higher than I was last week! What is going on here???

Yesterday was gorgeous outside, and yet, I packed my running cl... Thu, 15 Aug 2013 08:35:35 EST Goooooooooaals for August July Goals
I did okay. I haven't been putting forth major effort, so I can't really get mad when I don't reach all of my goals. More effort= more goals accomplished.

Things I did do:
I RAN! I actually ran 3 times. I've lost a lot of my endurance and was super embarrassed about it. I did get the awesome "I'm so hot" feeling afterward 344 (pretty much consists of "my legs look awesome" or "oh yeah, look at those abs" etc)
I started my Groupon gym mem... Fri, 2 Aug 2013 09:06:52 EST It's All Good I've been really MIA this summer on here. Sorry guys! We have had a jam-packed schedule of activities. And I’ve also been really on and off with following my exercise plan and healthy eating. Same old, same old, so I haven’t really felt up to blogging lately. Anywho…

I'm pretty sure I had the best weekend of my life this past weekend. We went to a music festival in Ohio with 7 of us total from VA and met up with some friends of ours in Ohio.
