During the trip I succumbed to fudge. I wasn't happy with myself but it did help me understand how dangerous sugar is for me personally. It is almost like a drug. One piece of fudge sent me over the edge. I ended up eating at least 1/4 pound in 2 days. Fortunately I was also hiking and getting plenty of outdoor exercise, but I felt physically sick from the sugar. I ended up throwing out what was left. I just can't have that stuff around. In many ... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 13:42:45 EST I DID IT!!!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4945879 I made my goal! It took 10 days longer than planned, but this journey included quite a few "vacation" days away from home. Each time I returned home I had managed to keep the weight off that I had lost prior. So now that the big day has arrived, I feel even more energized.

Two things: 1) our boat's anchor weighs 21 pounds and I can barely lift it; 2) a large container of kitty litter weighs 20 pounds and it, too, is a struggle. Both are clear examples of what I was carrying around ... Thu, 28 Jun 2012 09:03:54 EST I'm Almost Overweight! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4917534 I am within a few pounds of my first goal weight. When I reach it, I will be considered overweight! I am so excited to reach this goal because I have be categorized as "obese" for years. Just this pending change has me revitalized! When I joined SparkPeople a little over 2 months ago I had planned on an elaborate reward for myself when this first goal was met. But now I realize that I have already been rewarded far beyond anything material. My energy levels have doubled and my happiness has r... Fri, 8 Jun 2012 10:20:23 EST I'm Worth 10 minutes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4885587 I've had a major breakthrough. For years I have been trying to lose weight off and on. I get very focused, start to lose weight, and then have roadblocks thrown in my path. I give up. Not this time.

My husband gives oodles of verbal support. But....he is quick to offer to get me some fast food or take me out to eat. He says I can "just have a salad". He tells me to cook whatever I need to make for my "diet" and he will eat it, but then he offers carryout. When I get ready to exerc... Thu, 17 May 2012 11:13:47 EST It's About Being Realistic http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4871986 I'm coming to the realization that my weight loss has to be realistic. My husband and I traveled out of state for 4 days. We stopped at Subway twice because I knew I could make good choices from their menu. I brought along some food to satisfy the munchies and make quick lunches that were healthy. But I'm only human. We ate at a favorite pizza place. Instead of a medium pizza, we ordered a small. Another time my meal came with fries. I ate half of them. They were wonderful, but I stopped. The... Tue, 8 May 2012 10:01:53 EST Boredom's the Culprit! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4864365 I had an eye-opener yesterday. I'm retired and have steadily put on weight since leaving my job. I've been faithfully using Spark for almost a month and have had great success changing my routines to include tracking food and doing exercise daily. Yesterday my husband was out of the house running errands. I had everything done around the house that needed to be done. And then it hit. I wanted to munch! I stopped and thought about it. I wasn't hungry. I waited. More urges hit. I ate a grapefr... Thu, 3 May 2012 09:16:47 EST A Sense of Control http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4849707 I sought out Spark People because I was feeling a loss of control in my life and knew I needed to get it back. I had looked at Spark several years ago but never actively participated but remembered being impressed with what I saw. I joined the Thursday before Easter. The very same day my darling hubby decided we were going out of town for a few days. That meant eating out the entire time. I was ready to quit then and there. Once again, I felt I had no control over my life. My grown children ... Tue, 24 Apr 2012 11:10:08 EST Just Discovered Black Bean Chips http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4842769 I was roaming the health food section of our grocery store and came across black bean chips. They're like corn chips but are a low sodium, no cholesterol alternative. They have 4g protein and 5g fiber and were actually good! No corn in them. It's fun to find new things to try to jazz up my menu. Who knows what other things are out there. Thu, 19 Apr 2012 14:48:56 EST Rough Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4838519 This was my worst day since I started 12 days ago. I think I have been eating too little too quickly. For the past 3 days I have been at the lower end of my food range which is considerably lower than what I had been eating. Ate more today and made good choices as well as did some exercises. Heavy stress day. Mon, 16 Apr 2012 23:15:16 EST Making Stock http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4833301 Checked out a bunch of Spark recipes and see that many use vegetable stock. Sooooo, I decided to make my own this weekend to avoid the high sodium count. Figure it can be frozen into smaller amounts for the future. If the temps cool down I'm going to do the chicken stock also. Should be interesting. 100 Fri, 13 Apr 2012 11:16:40 EST Big Save at the End of the Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4832369 I really need to plan my meals ahead of time or read the suggested menus before I'm ready to eat breakfast. I went overboard on a snack this morning and started thinking I'd just be eating celery and water for dinner. Fortunately a comeback was made at lunch and a veggie-filled egg white omelette with Ezekiel 4:9 bread (love that stuff!) finished off the day's meals with a few calories to spare. So, I'm off to focus on my plan of attack for tomorrow. Thu, 12 Apr 2012 19:13:31 EST Eating Well http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4830222 Once I decided to lose weight I also decided to eat "clean" or at least as much as possible. It makes the whole journey so much more difficult but I think it will be the most beneficial in the long run. I'm checking labels for everything before making a purchase. I don't want to use up my daily allowances of carbs and sodium on just any ol' thing. Thinking about food so much is also annoying. I wish i could just eat and be done with it. It can't happen just now, but it will. I continue to be ... Wed, 11 Apr 2012 11:29:36 EST
