I've done more research on Fatty Liver and came across a few things that get better search results: one is metabolic syndrome, which includes fatty liver with diabetes, hypothyroid, obesity... I am thinking that all my hard work, exercising and eating well, may not have resulted in weight lose but it probably did prevent diabetes and thyroid problems. The other thing I found was a condition called NAFL non-alcoholic fatty liver. <B... Mon, 23 Apr 2012 07:02:55 EST Bit the Bullet http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4812035 Last year I decided that the Spark People plan sounded smart, so I did it for about 9 months faithfully and gained ten pounds... I became convinced my thyroid was shot or I was diabetic. I worked in a hospital, medical school and NIH doing research, so I wasn't thrilled with the quality of medical care in my neck of the woods. Too many lapband surgeries, friends getting bizarre serum injections from doctors. I decided to do some research and perhaps focus more on health and activity and not m... Fri, 30 Mar 2012 10:34:39 EST Swimming Meditation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4529901 When I started aqua aerobics a few months ago it was mainly a step to my first fitness goal -to do an hour of laps. That first day I was able 'nice to only do 2 laps! and it was hard. Today, I do 10 minutes after water aerobics on MWF and now I am adding laps on TTh -was able to do 30 minutes. I changed my goal to doing laps but keeping the water aerobics 3x a week. The water aerobics provides a lot of good stretching and some good exercise. It's always great to see improvement and look forw... Tue, 11 Oct 2011 09:12:49 EST Weeding as meditation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4423581 I read an article about being in the moment and they used weeding as a meditation. Since I can't get on the treadmill I spent 2 hours in the garden today, weeding! I was great exercise and I felt like I ran a couple of hours. I also felt zero stress and felt so calm for the rest of the day.

Fri, 12 Aug 2011 20:40:25 EST Dog is in doghouse! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4421355 Poor Mukki, he is in the doghouse and I am in bed with foot on a pillow -actually, that should be poor me!

Someone dumped a cat on our property last year, we have tried to get someone to take her but no luck. We had her spayed and shots but she has to stay outside, because we have 4 siberian huskies inside! These dogs have a high prey instinct, which comes from thousands of years in the Arctic in Siberia, eat what you can when you can or you do not survive.

Lately the c... A new day, new opportunities, a fresh start and new adventures.

This morning I saw my dogs run to the window as they do 100 times a day, a leaf fell, a squirrel, a bird... this time I joined them to find two young deer standing in the driveway watching us watch them. Mon, 8 Aug 2011 20:57:20 EST Well, let's burn some calories! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4377704 This has been one of those weeks that used to really upset me and make me feel a little taken for granted but this week I had the Spark!

Husband remembered late one night that they had a pot luck at work the next day and he promised my homemade bread... So I had to get up early and bake. Then he suggested we drop off stuff at our safe-ddepsoti box before we go on vacation... so I rounded up all the documents and met him at the bank... he forgot the keys to the box.

Now w... Thu, 21 Jul 2011 18:31:04 EST The other side of the coin http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4363266 So, lately I've been dealing with the emotional issues that have been plaguing me for a while. I do a lot of chakras work but took for granted they were fine. My emotional issues have made it clear that I have a few weak and closed chakras, so lots of meditations this week -seems to be working, life is getting easier. Thu, 14 Jul 2011 20:58:31 EST Started JulNoWriMo http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4335841 Started JulNoWriMo today, the goal is to write a 50000 word novel this month. I'll have to write at least 1666 words daily. Today, I wrote 1744 words. Of to a great start.

Spark People has me feeling more positive about goal oriented tasks. Fri, 1 Jul 2011 17:45:27 EST learning more each day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4327827 Yesterday I kept within my calorie intake but swapped out the recommended lunch for a mini binge of pickled herring and crackers. I'm calling it a mini-binge, since I didn't eat the whole jar! But I did eat about 4 servings. I noticed all afternoon, I wasn't feeling as energized or motivated as usual. I got a lot done and I am still feeling great but there was a shift.

I realized also I would have felt much better with one serving not 4! This is why I like the food tracker, I am n... Tue, 28 Jun 2011 09:57:13 EST Drop the Armor! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4323524 Stress, trauma, and hard times can often leave us feeling vulnerable. There was a time when I felt like a 'soft shell' crab. I was a very young widow; suddenly alone after seven years of care-giving. I was lost and confused by the single world of the early 90's. A therapist told me that I needed to build a tougher, thicker shell.

Recently, I have met several other women who are hiding from life behind a thicker shell, an armor of fat. I realized that I don't need a *thicker* shell... Sun, 26 Jun 2011 11:34:03 EST My Glass is Always Full! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4322538 I was recently asked if I was a glass half full or half empty kinda gal.

The other half of the glass is oxygen -so, my glass is always full!

It kinda puts a new spin on the empty plate... we aren't cows, chewing doesn't have to be a full time occupation and it doesn't need to become an obsession. An empty plate means get up from the table and get on with life! Thu, 23 Jun 2011 08:24:03 EST A very good day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4314299 Before I started Spark, I was doing Jillian iFit workouts on my treadmill and they were so hard! I started level 2 and it was killer! I stopped doing Jillian's iFit workouts when I began SparkP mainly to get more minutes.

Today I tried adding the workouts back into my schedule and I had to pause it to make sure I was doing the correct workout, it was so easy! It was a nice indicator that I am getting healthier!

315 104 Tue, 21 Jun 2011 22:06:53 EST Getting to know me better! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4310980 I've been Sparking now for 3 weeks.

I have really been fussy about tracking my meals, calculating serving and converting my recipes. I study the reports daily and monitor how I 'feel'.

I am slowly coming to understand what my body needs and what makes me feel energized. Mon, 20 Jun 2011 15:06:52 EST Those 8 hours of zzzzzzzz sleep! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4306378 I love getting up and watching the sunrise, listen to birds, just relax with a cup of coffee. Normally, I get up at 5:30 but thanks to Thursdays full-moon husky-mayhem, I was very sleep deprived. I discovered that now my new exercise and portion-control lifestyle requires those zzzz's, I really need those vital 8 hours of sleep! I felt terrible yesterday.

A yoga nidra session in the morning helped for a while, but after lunch I was miserable. I had no energy or motivation, everyth... Sat, 18 Jun 2011 09:12:26 EST Yoga Nidra for My Friday Morning! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4304413 Our home was like a children's book plot last night! A family of raccoons were playing under a little bridge near the dog's fenced area, which kept our not-a-baby-anymore-but still-acts-like-one, Quinn, barking all night! Finally, at 1 am I put a leash on him and got back in bed falling asleep with him attached to my wrist.

Somewhere over the last three years, I developed this technique -I tell Quinn he's 'grounded' and as soon as he quiets down I eventually remove the leash. Fri, 17 Jun 2011 08:52:14 EST Thursday a good day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4303793 Yesterday I felt my energy and motivation slide, I just let it go and woke up this morning feeling great and ready to get back on track. Thu, 16 Jun 2011 22:26:56 EST Inching my way along http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4299118 Awesome day! I felt full of energy and accomplished everything on my to do list, which is a first for a long time! I was so energized I had a hard time doing my yoga, I wanted to jump up and do other things. But that is one thing I like about yoga, it forces em to center myself and get control.

At least the dogs were sleepy. I was cooler last night so they all slept outside, which is not really sleeping since they chase things in the dark!

Tue, 14 Jun 2011 21:26:26 EST A Little Perspective, Please http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4295651 I mentioned to a younger person recently that when I was her age I ate whatever I wanted and never gained weight, she seemed surprised. It occurred to me later that I had left out a lot. I had been very active for most of my life. Even my first jobs involved standing and running. The last job I had in Boston, after changing careers was temping. I sat in front of a computer for 8 hours but still didn't gain weight.

Why? It had a lot to do with my commute: Walk several blocks to bus... But, since I started SparkP, he eats what I eat (except milk products, he's allergic) and to his delight his normal lunch fits into his caloric range. It's nice to share this with him. He's even added a 30 minute treadmill run to his evening.

Rich is one of those lucky guys who is 6'3" and weights 170, he never really gains more than 5 pounds and when his pants get tig... I usually hate taking days off but I have to remind myself that my body needs to recuperate.

Had a nice walk with my two female huskies, they were so happy, it was contagious!

200 Sat, 11 Jun 2011 20:58:34 EST Spark's Smart, keeps an eye on me! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4289375 The week ended with me feeling very tired and hungry. After I inputted my treadmill miles, I received an alert to edit my fitness goals and calories burned, I was warned that I was burning too many calories for how much I was eating. I did as instructed and Spark automatically adjusted my nutrition tracker and increased my calories!

I lost 6 pounds this week, which was too much for a healthy weight loss, so I am very happy. Fri, 10 Jun 2011 07:17:11 EST Thursday on the side http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4287441 Yesterday was all about taking it easy on myself! I was tired, feeling weak and unmotivated. I was expecting too much too soon. One of my stumbling blocks has always been doing too much. If I am told to do 30 minutes of exercise I'll do 2 hours and get hurt or too sore to pick up the next day.

I also have to reign in my "child-christmas brain" –I lose 5 pounds and wonder why I don't look like a super model yet LOL When changing your life, not every morning is going to be Christma... Thu, 9 Jun 2011 10:09:03 EST Gentle goes it! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4286332 I started the day feeling motivated and happy but by 11 am I was very hungry and weak. I started craving all kinds of fast food. I was able to use breathing exercises to calm down and realized I was still just getting used to the new calories and more exercises. I decided to 'take it easy' and relax. I was able to get on the treadmill a few hours later and do a good 90 minutes.

It took me over ten years to get this overweight, I need to be gentler about my activities, concentrate ... Wed, 8 Jun 2011 19:56:36 EST wow, first 5 pounds gone ...forevah! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4282436 After that shaky first week when I set my start up wrong, I am now on track on the diabetics diet plan (not diabetic but like the plan) I've lost 5 pounds! In fact, I was! I messed up setting up my account and this morning I decided to enter my weight and saw that my goal was my starting weight! OMG! no wonder i was eating so much and no wonder I didn't lose anything! LOL

I reset my program and put in my real goal weight. Sun, 5 Jun 2011 06:19:13 EST I am liking Sparkpeople http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4277053 So this is a week and I feel more energy and I have learned a lot! Some sad lessons were I have been eating way too much gumbo! Portion control has always been my achilles heel but I like that with Sparks you can enter your recipes or find someone who has already entered a recipe and it calculates your calories per serving! very cool!
