Mon, 12 May 2014 21:41:38 EST Getting Back on Track After Vacation Just took my first peek at the scale after 8 days on vacation in Florida/Walt Disney World...oh it wasn't too bad, looks like 2 pounds gained. I'm still kinda disappointed because I walked between 6.5 to 8 miles a day! The kids both have Fitbits and I was walking right beside them so I know that's accurate. I figured that much exercise would offset the extra calories I was ingesting, you know, like those Mickey Ear ice cream bars and the Mickey waffles (Belgian waffles with powdered sugar). ... Sun, 11 May 2014 19:44:46 EST The Post Christmas Blues :) Here's an oldie but goodie...hope it isn't the reality for any of my SparkFriends but if it IS, please feel free to join us in the Panther den for Biggest Loser Challenge 24. Fri, 27 Dec 2013 15:23:28 EST What's On My Mind For my BLC Weekend Challenge, I need to blog about what's on my from a health perspective, here goes:

364 I'm on the last day of the last week of the 5 Week 5K Your Way Spark Challenge. This means I am supposed to run a 5K (3.1 miles) tomorrow. While I have seen a great improvement in my ability to run for several minutes at a time, balanced with gradually less time walking, I'm pretty sure that it will take me an hour to run 3 miles!

For example, ... Mon, 11 Mar 2013 17:06:45 EST Thoughts for 16 year old me Well now Panthers, this is a very interesting weekend challenge for me...when I was 16 years old, I weighed about 105 pounds. My father had kicked me out of the house and I was living with my boyfriend's family. His mom was NOT happy to have me there but since BF told her we would get married if I couldn't stay there, she grudgingly agreed to let me stay. I was SO sad and unhappy. The food they ate was different so I ate very little, I couldn't see my own family and I didn't know what was goi... Sun, 27 Jan 2013 17:25:36 EST 12 Week Challenge So...twelve weeks. Hmmmm.

This challenge to create a success plan for BLC20 made me realize that I don't actually have a plan. I have a goal, yes, or a desire. I want to reach close to my comfortable/correct weight and strengthen and tone my body. And, I have a vague idea that joining the challenge is going to help me get there. Oh dear, none of that really sounds like a plan for success!

Questions like "how can you fit in the minutes" and "how will you be sure to have... Mon, 17 Sep 2012 08:00:45 EST Easy Apple Dessert This is a SparkRecipe! Found here:

tail.asp?recipe=11935

It is very easy to make but tastes so good. You can start it before dinner or whatever meal and have it cooking while you put the rest of the meal together. What a happy smell it makes!

Slice three baking apples very thin.

Add 1 tsp cinnamon and 2 tbsp sugar.

Mix well and put in a 9" square baking dish.

In a bowl m... Mon, 21 May 2012 07:38:54 EST Favorite Summer Time Veggie Grill This is the easiest thing ever but until a friend brought some asparagus to work to share, I had never, ever grilled any vegetables. I asked him how to cook it and he couldn't believe that I didn't know.

20

Now we do this all the time with asparagus and have expanded it to squash as well.

Rinse asparagus, snap off stems.

Pat them dry with a paper towel or kitchen towel.

Lay them on a plate and generously grind black pep... Mon, 21 May 2012 07:21:59 EST Day 31 So the Christmas season and the year have come to an end. Are you hopeful or wistful, looking back with regrets? I'm one of those people who LOVE the new year. I love January, love the new start, the fresh opportunities, the new pages for my day planner! the possibilities, the fun times I know we will have.

I looked back to the beginning of my challenge to myself, beginning on December 1st, to make this Christmas season one that would not be driven by impulsive eating and beating ... Sun, 1 Jan 2012 14:25:03 EST Day 30 Busy day, running Big Momma to dr appts and such plus trying to work 8 hours. Ate a healthy breakfast and drank lots of water. After snow flurries the other day it has now turned absolutely balmy for this time of year. We cooked out brats for dinner!

One more day and my Christmas gift to myself will be complete. I have learned so much and can't help looking forward to what I'm going to make as a new year resolution. I'm trying not to set myself up, but I have to say that this mont... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 12:06:41 EST Day 29 Had a good physical therapy session, I am starting to get much more mobility in the shoulder and the pain is only noticeable every once in a while. Two more sessions then I go back to the orthopedist.

Came home and decided to take down one of the Christmas trees. The real tree in the family room had turned very quickly into a decorated matchstick! I've never had a tree do this before. It smelled so fresh when we bought it and we did the needle test to make sure the needles were sta... Fri, 30 Dec 2011 06:47:33 EST Day 28 So it's back to work and the wind-down from the Christmas festivities begins. I work from home Wednesdays through Fridays so managed to get in some home tasks while catching up on tons of work emails.

We use Christmas dinnerware from Thanksgiving until New Years but I decided to put it away while the house is quiet. It will make it easier taking down other decorations to have the dishes done. Also packed away the Nativity from the fireplace. I love that Nativity set, it is so beau... Thu, 29 Dec 2011 07:05:31 EST Day 27 Took Mom home and the house was EXTREMELY quiet with just me, Ken and the dog. Our neighbors had given us some extra spaghetti sauce so we put that in the crockpot, meaning there wasn't anything for me to do for supper. I decided to make the Christmas cookies that Sarah and I never got around to before they left to visit Daniel's family. Made a bunch of sugar cookies that I'll ice tomorrow and one batch of oatmeal raisin cookies. Didn't even eat one! just enjoyed having something to do with m... Wed, 28 Dec 2011 06:38:51 EST Day 26 Since the kids were gone visiting their in-laws, Ken and I and Big Momma made a crockpot of homemade sausage and sauerkraut, definitely not a kid-friendly meal LOL! Truth be told it is not a fav of mine either so just had a small portion.

I think I did great all day. Enjoyed being with Mom alone and not having to talk over kids running and leaping. Cleaned up some of the gift boxes, bows and wrapping paper. Did a good vacuuming before the neighbors came over for a very nice visit.... Tue, 27 Dec 2011 08:06:29 EST Days 22 thru 25 I'm so thankful that the rest of this month prepared me for the last few days. We have been celebrating non-stop and I'm not complaining. Taco night on the 22nd, cold cut sandwiches and chips on the 23rd, an egg, sausage, breakfast burrito brunch on the 24th, followed by the full turkey dinner, stuffing, sweet potato casserole and all on the 25th! Is it all about food? no, but it is a large part of the enjoyment of being together and celebrating the birth of Christ and the continued blessings... Mon, 26 Dec 2011 15:32:23 EST Day 21 Ooohhhh the Christmas train is on the track and rolling! Do you have everything ready?

My darling husband thinks I'm crazy but I do like to have just a few things to pick up at the mall on the day before Christmas. Not critical gifts, you understand, some fun stuff that wouldn't matter if I couldn't find it. What I enjoy is the hustle and bustle, the tons of people, the excitement in the air. I pray for the mommy dragging around three hungry, tired children (been there, done that!... Thu, 22 Dec 2011 07:00:53 EST Day 20 Healthy breakfast, light lunch and one small helping of supper! Is this so easy just because it's Christmas and I'm so busy?

A co-worker brought in homemade cupcakes to share and by that I mean, brought it right to my desk on a tray and offered me one. She smiled while she told me she made them with this spice and that spice, and that it was a favorite thing for her to do at the holidays. I thanked her so much for sharing with me and enjoyed every bite.

In the past, I... Wed, 21 Dec 2011 07:03:53 EST Day 19 Had to go to the main office today and ended up going to the deli/buffet for a working meeting. See? It's hard to believe how many times work and food get wrapped up together. I chose tiny spoon-sized portions of a few chicken dishes and chose the rice with vegetables and some seasoned fresh kale. The rest of the vegetables were floating in miscellaneous sauces so I passed those by. Resisted the Pepsi and got Perrier instead.

My boss shared her Christmas candy dish with me and I se... Tue, 20 Dec 2011 06:21:14 EST Day 18 Hubby and I took an early morning drive to watch our truck's odometer turn 200,000 miles, enjoying a nice Starbucks coffee. Yes, we are a car family and love our cars just like our babies.

Then church, a quick trip to get some more stocking holders for the fireplace from the craft store. Built a nice toasty fire in the fireplace and watched football with the children and grand babies while supper cooked away in the crockpot.

Jane is three doses into the antibiotic and i... Mon, 19 Dec 2011 06:12:28 EST Days 16 and 17 Oops! missed a day. Not surprising considering all the Christmas hustle and bustle.

I am not a blogging type person but making myself stop by every day to comment on the good choices I make for my health has been such a blessing for me. Turning my mind from the "oh I shouldn't have had that piece of pie" negativity and guilt to "how sweet that she made that for us" gratefulness and joy...well all I can say is I am just overflowing with the blessings of the season instead of worryi... Sun, 18 Dec 2011 07:07:52 EST Day 15 What a crazy, busy day! First I got to go see Carly's pre-school Christmas play. Fun! Then drove 25 miles to take Mom to Costco to buy some Christmas presents, then to her doctor's appointment. Her mobility issues make every outing take a long time but I just know that in advance and try not to let it stress me. Had to rush back to the home office for two important meetings in the afternoon.

My beautiful daughter packed up the two babies after naptime and drove in rush hour traffic... Fri, 16 Dec 2011 07:10:11 EST Day 14 I tracked food halfway through the day because I wasn't sure if I was going way overboard. That tracker is a great tool even if you don't use it every day! It really helps bring the day in focus if you are busy and can't visualize the impact of what you've eaten. So helpful.

First physical therapy session was painful but the therapist said the anti-inflammatory had worked well and I had more mobility than the doctor noted on his report. While my regular MD thought I had frozen shou... Thu, 15 Dec 2011 06:45:01 EST Day 13 Consistency! Healthy lunch and only one plate of supper, even tho I was so tempted to eat more. Had bible study breakfast group and ate a wonderful orange scone at Panera. It was delicious and I enjoyed every bite.

Checked my weight for the first time in two weeks and I am maintaining.

Yay!

134 Wed, 14 Dec 2011 06:58:36 EST Day 12 Back to work, cold all better. I love Zicam!

Packed a very healthy breakfast and lunch. Enjoyed both and munched an apple on the way home so I wouldn't be tempted to graze in the kitchen while making supper. Had only one reasonable portion of meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy and fresh green beans that had been canned by my son-in-law's sweet mother.

A good day all the way around. Tue, 13 Dec 2011 12:45:08 EST Day 11 Church, football games and decorating the last Christmas tree. We have three in our home just because we love to have the spirit of Christmas overflowing around us.

Those LED lights just had to go back, we strung the whole tree and even with 300 lights the tree was dark! I tried LED Christmas lights when they first came out and had the same experience but after reading reviews on how nice they were and safe and energy efficient, I thought maybe they had improved. NOT! So the old-sc... Mon, 12 Dec 2011 07:45:48 EST Day 10 The cold had me dragging around all day, just not feeling up to par. Little appetite to speak of and my wonderful hubby made me a nice bowl of chicken soup after the week's grocery shopping was done.

I made it a point to alternate weekend tasks with resting periods and went to sleep early.

282 Sun, 11 Dec 2011 12:32:32 EST Day 9 Lovely oatmeal for breakfast then got really hungry right before my 11am meeting so ran down to the kitchen for a nice bowl of homemade vegetable beef soup...yum! Thought I would be starving from eating lunch so early but I'm starting with a head cold and just didn't feel hungry.

Was on grandbaby duty this evening because my daughter and son-in-law had the staff Christmas party. Had fun watching them wrap each other up in Christmas paper. Then we put the ceramic Nativity set on th... Sat, 10 Dec 2011 06:57:43 EST Day 8 Healthy breakfast, healthy lunch and only one helping of stuffed peppers at supper! and a snack size Snickers bar while watching the football game.

244

Why does this seem easy? I'm so tempted to put some stress into this situation by setting up a harder goal or demanding a certain behavior. Nooooo, not going to do it. This is my month to celebrate the small decisions I make every day to live a healthy, happy life, choices that will become habits.

<... Fri, 9 Dec 2011 07:04:23 EST Day 7 Running behind all day it seemed, from drs appt to offsite work meeting with executives...still made myself take the few extra minutes to pack up a good breakfast and good lunch that satisfied, filled me up and left me feeling proud.

I also rejected the little voice that whispered "starbucks, starbucks, you deserve it because of this crazy day." In reality that little voice is nothing more than me trying to soothe my stress. If I really wanted the caramel macchiato and could have ... Thu, 8 Dec 2011 06:52:34 EST Day 6 Prepared my breakfast and lunch in advance so had good, healthy food to eat.

I also hit the treadmill for a short time. Would love to have done a Leslie Sansone DVD but ran out of time so instead of giving up on the idea of exercising, I hopped on the treadmill and moved my feet there. 315

Hope you have a happy, delightful day SparkFriend! Wed, 7 Dec 2011 06:38:46 EST Day 5 Since I did eat extra goodies over the weekend while celebrating, I wanted to bless my body with some good nutrition. Packed a yummy lunch and some 474 265 for snacks.

One night a week we have a vegetarian night and this was the night. I had one bowl of my daughter's delicious SouthWest Salad and later a single Oreo Truffle (size of a choc covered cherry) made by my daughter-in-law.

Good decisions aren't so hard after all...I can't believe I've kept... Tue, 6 Dec 2011 06:51:48 EST Day 4 Sad Redskins and GO Steelers and Packers! It was fun lazing around after church watching ball games with the family. Even though I felt full from lunch I kept finding myself in the kitchen opening cupboards and the frig for something to munch. It just seems like you should be snacking when watching games and enjoying being together, right?

I held out and didn't give in to what is really a habit and not a need for food. Just asked myself every time I was moseying around the food, am... Mon, 5 Dec 2011 07:39:36 EST Day 3 Other than choosing a light, healthy breakfast I didn't think about food today much at all.

Me and hubby, daughter, son-in-law and their two little girls invaded my mom's house and when we left, Christmas had arrived. Christmas tree up and sparkling, window decorations done, front door covered with festive paper and a beautiful wreath on the inside of the front door so she can see and enjoy it every day.

Finger foods are usually a part of this event so we baked little f... Sun, 4 Dec 2011 08:02:19 EST Day 2 I'm sure you've experienced this situation or something similar...morning meetings ran late, there was no time for a lunch break before the next meeting. My boss says "let's send someone out for Chipotle and we'll eat while we have the next meeting."

Yike, Chipotle! Love, love, love Chipotle. Decision point!

I had packed a delicious lunch: a cup of hamburger casserole from last night's dinner and some steamed seasoned zucchini. I also had an orange, already peeled and qu... Sat, 3 Dec 2011 06:52:48 EST Day 1 I chose a healthy lunch that I really enjoyed ~ being happy with the choices is key to making this month's healthy decisions successful. My choices need to be ones that I truly like, not just something I am doing on a temporary basis. When I choose something because it's the right thing to do, inside I'm annoyed and mad that I couldn't have what I wanted.

I loved my sandwich of multigrain bread, tomatoes, dijonnaise and thin sliced deli turkey. Instead of Pepsi I had lemon-lime se... Fri, 2 Dec 2011 07:00:38 EST Christmas Gift for Me December is here! I love everything about the Christmas season. We already have two Christmas trees up and decorated, one more to go. Family, friends, food and a quiet spirit of peace, what's not to like? The excess, of course. Spending money impulsively and eating way more than necessary...these are the two things that cast a shadow over my celebrations in the past.

Luckily I managed to corral the reasons I over-spent in the past and now can enjoy buying or making gifts for frien... Thu, 1 Dec 2011 07:38:56 EST Nothing Changes Unless I Do On June 27th I was on the second week of a Spark Challenge and weighed 161.7, on my way down the scale towards my goal.

Today I weigh 164.2.

There is absolutely nothing to be said about that, that hasn't been said a million times before.

Something has to change. Mon, 1 Aug 2011 07:05:52 EST How'd That Work? Not too good! That's a common phrase on my hubby's favorite radio show and though it's meant to be funny, when I use it today - it definitely isn't.

I said that I wanted to maintain my weight over the long July 4th weekend and I didn't. I gained 1.8 lbs. I guess I could say that it must be water weight because of eating salty foods. The reality is I "said" I wanted to make good food choices but I didn't plan or do anything to support what I said. How silly of me to run to the scale this morning... Tue, 6 Jul 2010 07:34:50 EST Starting Over today Sat, 19 Jul 2008 07:09:33 EST Revising My Goal Well it's July 1st and my goal was to hit 150 by today.

In looking at my weight loss chart, I see that I have stayed basically the same through the month of June. In all the previous months since beginning Spark I have gone slowly but steadily down.

SO! I have revised my goal and put back on my happy face because I know that I will definitely be posting success in a few short weeks.

I am so thankful for Spark, the people, the tools and the great way it makes ... Tue, 1 Jul 2008 08:03:31 EST Seven Days 'Til I Should Reach My Goal Today is May 16th and my "revised" goal is to reach 159, which would be a 10 pound weight loss, by the 23rd. Since I'm at 160.2 lbs now that should be easy, right? I sure hope so!

I leave for vacation on the 22nd and will set a new goal when I return on the 28th. I just hope I haven't gained so much weight while away that my new goal is the same as my original one. 211

Actually I think I have learned enough about myself, eating and nutrition since I joined S... Fri, 16 May 2008 22:15:38 EST Okay so it's a Plateau 24

Well when I once again had not lost weight on weigh-in day, it really got me so down!! I have been working out every single day as designed and was so sure that last week was just a fluke. But two weeks running and not losing was a real disappointment for me.

I'm trying hard to put it in perspective. After all, it's only been 7 weeks and I have lost 7 pounds. I just got used to losing at least one pound a week. In the past I would have freaked out if I di... Mon, 5 May 2008 21:12:43 EST Thoughts on a Weight Loss Slowdown Well, I guess this had to happen.

I've consistently lost one pound a week since starting SparkDiet but this week when I got on the scale for the weekly weigh-in, I had stayed the same. I decided not to record my weight since I had had a high-sodium meal the night before and maybe it was just retaining water. But today when I weighed in again, it shows me actually gaining a pound!

39

I'm trying really hard not to be down about this. Still keeping up ... Tue, 29 Apr 2008 10:23:26 EST Back from Vacation Hubby and I returned from our seven day jaunt yesterday and I had already decided I wasn't going to step on the scale until I'd had a week to "be good" and lose some of the weight I was sure I had gained. But it's part of my morning routine and my sleepy self automatically went to the scale this morning.

Let me tell you how fast I woke up when I realized I had not gained ONE OUNCE on vacation!! Believe me when I say that has never happened before. I was speechless and just so deli... Thu, 10 Apr 2008 23:29:09 EST Blah!! I weighed in this morning and I only lost 2 oz. Waaahhhh! I thought I was doing so good. I exercised every day and tried to keep my calories within range. O f course I messed up on two of the seven days but I was soooo good on the other five days.

And next week we go on vacation...not good timing at all. :( Mon, 31 Mar 2008 20:46:26 EST Stage 2 I started Stage Two today!
