I mean really, where else do you go to purchase something and you have to spend hours, ugh, hours dickering back and forth for an item.
I don't go to the grocery store and barter over the price of a can of beans. I don't go to the department store and argue over the cost of a pillow. I don't spend time at the pharmacy debating the price of aspirin. It's like purchasing a chicken in a third world country for crying out l... Fri, 9 Mar 2018 23:27:13 EST Well Now! I've been taking Pilaties for more than six months. It's been a challenge. When I first started I couldn't even do a Plank. Yesterday we were using Gliders (think plate sized flat disks made out of fabric that slide along the floor), whenever the instructors get these out the entire class groans.

You place your hands on two of the Gliders or your feet. We did both--- no, no, not at the same time! Tons of core control is needed to hold and change your positions. For the first time ... Tue, 6 Feb 2018 15:43:59 EST If We Were Having Coffee...... If we were having coffee I'd be honest and tell you how I miss my best girlfriend, that she moved a couple of months ago and even with cell phones and Facebook and Skype, (does anyone else think of George Jetson when they Skype?) it's been lonely without her. And I wish I could have coffee with her.

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you how much I appreciate the people who send little notes of encouragement on Spark and how it's strange the safety I feel sharing thoughts of eating... Tue, 10 Oct 2017 17:42:39 EST I'm Six Again I keep up with my workout routine really well. I'm almost obsessive about it. And I'm not going to apologize. I like working out. HUH? Me? Yep. Me. I LIKE working out. It's taken a long time for me to get here. I look forward to Spin class and that feeling mid class where I ask myself if I can push through. If you've ever taken a Spin class, you understand. I enjoy sweating and knowing I CAN DO this. I've been lifting weights and getting stronger and I relish that feeling. I've picked up Ball... Wed, 8 Feb 2017 22:18:21 EST What'd ya know? Since the sun is up a bit later now and the shadows are long, I noticed something this morning as I walked into the rec center that made me pause after I saw it.
My thighs no longer rub together when I walk. I know that's a crazy thing to notice in your shadow, but dang, it was a fun thing to see! After seeing this I got to thinking that I no longer wear out my jeans on the inside of my upper legs first, they actually fade to a soft almost white blue and get thinner and thinner over th... Wed, 2 Nov 2016 18:56:53 EST The Views Since I write often of the amazing views from the Rec. Center windows, I thought I'd take this opportunity to share some of the beauty I get to enjoy while working out. I do need to tell you though, these were taken as I walked around the park not through the windows. So much prettier that way, no water spots or streaks!

This is Grand Mesa, the largest flattop mountain in the worl... Thu, 1 Sep 2016 18:46:11 EST 3. 2. 1.....Meltdown Saturday was rough, really rough. I totally lost it. Really lost it.

I've been having problems with my thyroid since the beginning of the year. My doctor has sent me for blood work and changed my medication four times. The last time was just over three weeks ago. I'm having typical symptoms of, tiredness/inability to sleep, freezing hands and feet, constipation, dry, itchy skin, unexplained weight gain (this has been tough to take as I worked so stinking hard to lose the weight),... Mon, 22 Aug 2016 17:03:02 EST Fawn Photo We went to the mountains this past Saturday, did some hiking and had a picnic. It was a beautiful day to be in the hills. There were abundant wildflowers blooming in yellows, blues, and pinks. Awesome. On the way down, we saw this little guy about to cross the road. As soon as he saw us he immediately dropped to the ground and "hid" from us. I took a couple of quick photos and left before any other cars came around the bend so he could catch up with his momma. I love where we live!

... Tue, 21 Jun 2016 20:44:26 EST The Funniest Things Happen at the Gym... The funniest things happen randomly and give me the giggles.

I belong to a cool community recreation center that in the cardio room are large, oversize windows on the north and west side of the building. There are four T.V.'s mounted between the windows, but I find myself looking out the windows as the views are gorgeous.

On the north, I look up at Grand Mesa, the largest flat top mountain in the world. As the sun rises, it kisses the Mesa and washes down its sides ligh... Tue, 16 Feb 2016 16:08:28 EST Motivation? I think not. I was in the locker room at our local rec. center last week and overheard two women talking. They were both new and were telling each other "If we can just stay motivated...." There was a question on the end of their statements that made me think, is it a matter of motivation or something else? I really wanted to interrupt their conversation and say "No! Ladies! It's NOT a matter of motivation! If you're relying on motivation, you're not going to be here in a month!" But I didn't. Sometimes ... Mon, 1 Feb 2016 12:36:23 EST Not a Marathon, A Trail Run A Spark Friend inspired this blog, it's a quote I've heard often since being on Sparks:

"We're in a marathon, not a sprint".

And that's very true. However, I'm thinking it's more like a trail run. What's a trail run you ask? I've become familiar with them as my daughter has taken up running them.

A trail run is in the outdoors, because of where we live, usually in the mountains. It's at least marathon distance, but often is much longer due to the terrain and n... Fri, 8 Jan 2016 18:56:35 EST More Wedding Photos Okay, Sue! You asked for it! Here's some more wedding photos.

This is the bride watching me sew her grandmother's locket that her grandfather had given her when they were young into the wedding gown. I loved doing this for her as it was a way for some special people who were no longer with us to be included.

This is my wonderful husband holding Maggie.
<img src="http://... Mon, 4 Jan 2016 21:48:03 EST Wedding Photos!!! Finally! I'm going to post a few photos from my son's wedding, I could post hundreds, but I'll control myself and put a few up I think you'll enjoy.

Our first look at the bride.

The Bride and her Bridesmaids (that's my red headed daughter on the far left)

The Groom and his Gro... Mon, 4 Jan 2016 16:49:47 EST Proud Mama Since my son's wedding photos still aren't available, I've decided to write about my daughter and how amazing she is. The below is a photo of her doing a trail run. Twenty-seven and a half miles on a mountain trail. I love this photo of her for so many reasons. She is so happy being in the mountains and running. She's a lover of both the outdoors and running. And look at her, she's fierce!

... Wed, 9 Dec 2015 20:38:04 EST AHHHHHHH!!!! This is entirely tongue in cheek, laugh at it, I can ... now.

I was driving home from the rec center yesterday when I saw something move just above my window right in line with my eyes. Something small and black and ack! A spider! In my car as I'm driving.

Okay, I say to myself, calm down, just roll down the window and it'll blow out and everything will be fine. So I roll down the window and the crazy thing blows TOWARDS me! Ack! Ack! Ack! I quickly look around for a ne... Tue, 10 Nov 2015 15:34:20 EST Storm This past Wednesday, we had an unusual storm that tore everything to shreds. Devastating hail that lasted for fifteen minutes. We seldom have hail here, but this storm was so violent, I couldn't see out the windows as it raged. Our tomato plants are leafless. The melons, pummeled. Potatoes, trashed. The potted flowers that were doing so well, pink and white and so beautiful, turned over, blown apart and ruined. And my roses, oh my roses.

BUT, I went out to the garden today and n... Thu, 16 Jul 2015 22:08:38 EST Thankful I"m going to make an effort to make a long story short, we'll see how it goes...
In a previous blog I related how my doctor had found something she didn't like during my annual well woman exam, so I had to go in for a biopsy. The biopsy led to an ultra sound. The ultra sound was done at 3:30, at 5:30 that same day, I got a phone call from my doctor telling me she was forwarding my files and the results of the biopsy and ultra sound to a gynecologist/surgeon, at the end of this call she ... Thu, 2 Jul 2015 23:21:10 EST The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Let me start with the good, my husband won a trip with his company so last week we took off for North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina. We had a wonderful time. We spent time around the Asheville area, hiking, strolling the downtown, and yes we toured the Biltmore Estate. I'm not a fan of overly pretentious mansions and to be truthful, the first five or six rooms viewing the over the top décor of the place bothered me, but once I got past that and began to focus on the craftsmanship, I... Thu, 7 May 2015 15:38:01 EST Crap The company I work for is "reorganizing" and there's not a place for me due to my "geography". I've been with this company more than 10 years and this just feels awful. awful. awful.
Here's my problem right this minute, before the infamous phone call, I worked out this morning (treadmill, lifted weights, and did a spin class) and haven't eaten since six a.m. It's now after three p.m. I'm hungry, (and slightly sick to my stomach), but I'm afraid to eat as in the past when something... Tue, 24 Feb 2015 17:10:16 EST He PROPOSED! Our son proposed to his girlfriend this past Sunday. They've been dating for around three years, and we knew he'd bought a ring, so it wasn't exactly a surprise, but it was still so much fun! They called us via video chat (does anyone else think of the old Jetsons cartoon when they do that?), and broke the news together while showing us her ring. They were both glowing with sheer happiness and contentment. It was so special. And yes, I screamed, jumped up and down and then cried. She said h... Tue, 20 Jan 2015 18:27:25 EST Little Cutie

This little guy was just so cute I had to share!

I love this time of year for the deals there are on fitness clothing. I just found a bargain on a pair of workout shoes I've been wanting to try for more than a year. At $159.00 there was no way I could justify buying them, way too expensive. This morning in my email box appeared an ad for them for $49.48! And I had a coupon for an additional $10 off, S... Wed, 7 Jan 2015 18:16:55 EST Thanksgiving Funny

Have a blessed Thanksgiving everyone! Tue, 25 Nov 2014 21:38:29 EST A Winding Path Leads to Maui. Maui!!!! <img

This is what my journey has been like. NEVER NEVER NEVER a straight line and not an easy trip. The reward of all that hard work and healthy eating paid off the last week in Sept. when we took a trip to Maui. My dream trip. It was amazing. And because of the weight loss (almost 90 pounds) I was able to do some things I would have never attempted before.

Things like stand up paddle boarding. Yep, ... Fri, 21 Nov 2014 18:34:32 EST Sea Bands. Has anyone heard about or used these?

My husband and I are going on a trip for our anniversary---Hawaii!!!! Wheee!!!
Anyway, I have problems on airplanes and was doing some research and discovered these acupressure wrist bands that are supposed to help with motion sickness. Has anyone out there tried them and did they help? It's the landings and take offs that get to me. I've tried over the counter meds, but they make me really drowsy and I don't... Tue, 16 Sep 2014 20:24:34 EST Crown

I love that! On a more serious note, I did go to the dentist the other day for a regular check up and found out that I have a loose wisdom tooth that I may have to have removed. Because it's loose he told me that suggests bone loss in the jaw. I'm thinking that since there could be bone loss there, it could be all over my body. So I'm upping my calcium intake, lifting heavier weights and trying to help things out ... Mon, 4 Aug 2014 23:08:34 EST Screaming Calories

Wouldn't this be awesome??? Or maybe scary? LOL! Wed, 4 Jun 2014 16:38:12 EST A Birthday Trek

This is Hanging Lake in Glenwood Canyon, Colorado. I wanted to load more photos, but it's taking forever on SparkPeople, so settled for just one. I had photos of the ice/snow fields we had to cross, the 18 to 24 inch boulders we had to climb and the steepness of the trail. Also had some shots of Spouting Rock just above Hanging Lake and Rifle Falls, a few miles from here, you can actually hike to the top an... Thu, 8 May 2014 23:54:03 EST Colorado is Drunk

This is tongue in cheek, but true all the same. Saturday was a beautiful day here, warm, sunny, no wind, and 65*. We were able to work outside all day and enjoyed every minute of it. Sunday was cold and blustery. It snowed, it rained, it blew and the temps. hovered around 35*. To go outside I needed my winter coat again! Colorado springtime is always an adventure!

So I'm just holding on because I kn... Tue, 1 Apr 2014 17:33:14 EST Say Whaaaat? This past week was one of those weeks that you're just down on yourself. No weight loss, the weather is gloomy, and you can't do anything with your hair.

I lacked confidence all week. Since we were starting a new marriage class Sunday night, I really needed to get over the "blahs" but try as hard as I might, I just couldn't get over that hill.
My husband and I are greeters at our church Sunda... Mon, 3 Mar 2014 17:25:49 EST Stupid Scale ; ) I need to keep reminding myself of this:

I weighed for the first time in a couple of months and the scale had not moved. While I really wanted to be able to post the blog "GOAL!" instead of "Stupid Scale" it was not to be. But, given that it is the first time I weighed since the holidays, it could have been worse, a gain instead of staying steady. But I really want to get those last five pounds. I ne... Fri, 7 Feb 2014 21:56:42 EST "Equipment..?" I ran into a good friend yesterday when I was working. She had just come from the gym and gave me a hug and I noticed something pretty important. Hence this blog.
There are certain important pieces of "equipment" you truly need when you begin working out.
Two of the MOST important, at least in my opinion are:

1) A GOOD pair of shoes. Don't go to the big box stores and try and save a few bucks. They won't last as long and they won't do your feet, ankles, knees, hips, ba... Fri, 10 Jan 2014 23:27:45 EST To Work Out Or Not Work Out. It's Not A Question.

I heard on the radio this morning (this time of year it's all about the "resolution" shows) that it takes three months for something to become a habit. I missed a few days working out with Christmas and New Years company. It felt so good to get back to the rec center these past few days. I feel better and because I feel better, I act better! Can you say attitude adjustment?

<img src="http://photos-a... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 21:45:49 EST Christmas Tree Hunting Photos We have gone out for years and cut our own Christmas tree. Depending on the weather, we can take hours and pack a picnic lunch or if it's really cold are a lot less picky and can find one in under an hour! This year, we spent maybe two - two and a half hours before cutting our tree. We had a beautiful sunny day, but it was cold and as the sun got lower, it got colder. The first photo is the area where we began the search.

<img src=" Thu, 12 Dec 2013 22:29:44 EST Flip Flops We ended up with somewhere between 8 and 18 inches of snow last night. Not really sure how much as the wind was blowing, so in places the ground is bare and in other places it's 3 feet deep. Tomorrow morning I have to go work in a town (an hour away) that's supposed to get to 40 below zero tonight. NOT looking forward to going, but it's only twice a year and the heater works great in my car! I wonder if shivering can be considered aerobic exercise? hmmm...

<img src="http://phot... Our daughter and her husband were here, as well as in-laws, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, etc. I loved having a full house! I did indulge a bit, but didn't go crazy. I missed some workouts as well. So I'm ready to get back on track and focus on those last five pounds. And those last five have been really stubborn!
I saw the above poster and thought it was fitting for the time b... I've been thinking about this for some time, but need to know if it's the right thing to do.
Since joining SparkPeople, I've lost 45 pounds, but I've lost 85 pounds total since beginning my weight loss journey some four years ago.
So, here's my dilemma, I'd like to have my ticker reflect my actual weight loss, but I'm not sure it's the right thing to do since I didn't lose all the weight with Spark.
The SparkPeople web site, trackers, and especially member support has been i... Tue, 19 Nov 2013 14:51:53 EST Too Funny Not to Share I ran across this the other day and couldn't resist sharing, make sure and read the small print at the bottom of the sign, I almost missed it and wouldn't have posted it without that addition.

Tue, 22 Oct 2013 15:09:01 EST More Alaska At CharterDawns suggestion, I'm doing another blog on our trip to Alaska. Thu, 3 Oct 2013 17:16:42 EST Alaska-Mostly photos with some commentary Our trip to Alaska was a once in a lifetime experience. I don't really know where to start on this blog about the trip, so I think I'll just post a few photos with some short comments so I don't bore everyone! I will say though, it was an amazing trip.

My husband and I hiked up to Exit Glacier on the Kenai Penisula. Mon, 23 Sep 2013 13:15:40 EST Knickers in a Knot
My husband and I are leaving for vacation in Alaska Friday morning. This is a trip we've dreamed about for years. This spring we sold an old tractor my husband had since he was in high school for enough to pay for the plane tickets and car rental, so decided this is the year! Since making that decision, we've had so many people tell us "We always planned on doing that when we retired, but our health won't allow us to go... Photos from the Top! Three years ago I attempted to hike a mountain that was over 14,000 feet tall. I failed. Altitude sickness got the best of me. Dizziness, nausea, finally at less than 500 vertical feet from the summit, I began blacking out and had to go back down. It's the only "cure" for altitude sickness. I was so close I could see the summit, could see people walking around, hear them celebrating their success and knowing I'd failed.
This past Saturday, my husband and I made the attempt again. This t... Mon, 29 Jul 2013 19:39:41 EST Photos of trip to the Hills We went to the mountains with our daughter and son in law for a picnic and short hike. Thu, 25 Jul 2013 15:23:17 EST I am NOT a Dog

There was a time that when I would do something physical, a walk, a bike ride, really anything where I moved my body, I figured I did that, I can have a treat! The problem with that kind of thinking was that I needed to lose weight desperately (to date I've lost 78 pounds) not maintain the weight I had. I had to change the way I thought about food. It shouldn't be a "reward" for good behavior.
I am NOT a d... Mon, 15 Jul 2013 16:43:44 EST NO DIET!

I have friends and family who ask me this question when I don't take something offered at a mealtime gathering: "Whut are ya on a diet or somethin'?" And it's almost always asked with a touch of sarcasm. I have to admit, when I started the whole process this question bothered me. For me, getting healthy (ie losing weight) was very personal. I shared with very few people what my goals were. I felt like what I chose... Tue, 25 Jun 2013 23:12:01 EST Thinking I've been feeling like I should blog for a while now, just unsure about what to blog about. So, I'll start with some pretty awesome stuff!

1) When moving my in-laws to their new place, my jeans kept falling off and I kept jerking them back up, my daughter (the marathon runner a size 4/6) handed me her belt and said "here mom, put this on" I told her no way is YOUR belt going to fit me! Well my spark friends, at her urging and I mean lots of urging, I reluctantly put the belt on k... Fri, 7 Jun 2013 11:44:49 EST Emotions Running Rampant It's been quite the month. My in-laws sold their farm, they've been here most of their married life, 54+ years. They have-----had--- the place across the road from ours. The emotions of them downsizing and moving to a smaller place surprised me. I thought I'd be the "strong one" for this change, but have spent quite a bit of time crying. It's hard to think of them growing older and having to make this move.
Because they lived so close to us and we farmed together for years, we have so m... She finished at 3 hours 24 minutes and had just left the family meeting area when the bombs went off. I am so thankful she and her husband are safe. So very, very thankful. My husband however, wasn't ... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 20:51:29 EST
