Maui!!!! <img

This is what my journey has been like. NEVER NEVER NEVER a straight line and not an easy trip. The reward of all that hard work and healthy eating paid off the last week in Sept. when we took a trip to Maui. My dream trip. It was amazing. And because of the weight loss (almost 90 pounds) I was able to do some things I would have never attempted before.

Things like stand up paddle boarding. Yep, ... Fri, 21 Nov 2014 18:34:32 EST Sea Bands. Has anyone heard about or used these?

My husband and I are going on a trip for our anniversary---Hawaii!!!! Wheee!!!
Anyway, I have problems on airplanes and was doing some research and discovered these acupressure wrist bands that are supposed to help with motion sickness. Has anyone out there tried them and did they help? It's the landings and take offs that get to me. I've tried over the counter meds, but they make me really drowsy and I don't... Tue, 16 Sep 2014 20:24:34 EST Crown

I love that! On a more serious note, I did go to the dentist the other day for a regular check up and found out that I have a loose wisdom tooth that I may have to have removed. Because it's loose he told me that suggests bone loss in the jaw. I'm thinking that since there could be bone loss there, it could be all over my body. So I'm upping my calcium intake, lifting heavier weights and trying to help things out ... Mon, 4 Aug 2014 23:08:34 EST Screaming Calories

Wouldn't this be awesome??? Or maybe scary? LOL! Wed, 4 Jun 2014 16:38:12 EST A Birthday Trek

This is Hanging Lake in Glenwood Canyon, Colorado. I wanted to load more photos, but it's taking forever on SparkPeople, so settled for just one. I had photos of the ice/snow fields we had to cross, the 18 to 24 inch boulders we had to climb and the steepness of the trail. Also had some shots of Spouting Rock just above Hanging Lake and Rifle Falls, a few miles from here, you can actually hike to the top an... Thu, 8 May 2014 23:54:03 EST Colorado is Drunk

This is tongue in cheek, but true all the same. Saturday was a beautiful day here, warm, sunny, no wind, and 65*. We were able to work outside all day and enjoyed every minute of it. Sunday was cold and blustery. It snowed, it rained, it blew and the temps. hovered around 35*. To go outside I needed my winter coat again! Colorado springtime is always an adventure!

So I'm just holding on because I kn... Tue, 1 Apr 2014 17:33:14 EST Say Whaaaat? This past week was one of those weeks that you're just down on yourself. No weight loss, the weather is gloomy, and you can't do anything with your hair.

I lacked confidence all week. Since we were starting a new marriage class Sunday night, I really needed to get over the "blahs" but try as hard as I might, I just couldn't get over that hill.
My husband and I are greeters at our church Sunda... Mon, 3 Mar 2014 17:25:49 EST Stupid Scale ; ) I need to keep reminding myself of this:

I weighed for the first time in a couple of months and the scale had not moved. While I really wanted to be able to post the blog "GOAL!" instead of "Stupid Scale" it was not to be. But, given that it is the first time I weighed since the holidays, it could have been worse, a gain instead of staying steady. But I really want to get those last five pounds. I ne... Fri, 7 Feb 2014 21:56:42 EST "Equipment..?" I ran into a good friend yesterday when I was working. She had just come from the gym and gave me a hug and I noticed something pretty important. Hence this blog.
There are certain important pieces of "equipment" you truly need when you begin working out.
Two of the MOST important, at least in my opinion are:

1) A GOOD pair of shoes. Don't go to the big box stores and try and save a few bucks. They won't last as long and they won't do your feet, ankles, knees, hips, ba... Fri, 10 Jan 2014 23:27:45 EST To Work Out Or Not Work Out. It's Not A Question.

I heard on the radio this morning (this time of year it's all about the "resolution" shows) that it takes three months for something to become a habit. I missed a few days working out with Christmas and New Years company. It felt so good to get back to the rec center these past few days. I feel better and because I feel better, I act better! Can you say attitude adjustment?

<img src="http://photos-a... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 21:45:49 EST Christmas Tree Hunting Photos We have gone out for years and cut our own Christmas tree. Depending on the weather, we can take hours and pack a picnic lunch or if it's really cold are a lot less picky and can find one in under an hour! This year, we spent maybe two - two and a half hours before cutting our tree. We had a beautiful sunny day, but it was cold and as the sun got lower, it got colder. The first photo is the area where we began the search.

<img src=" Thu, 12 Dec 2013 22:29:44 EST Flip Flops We ended up with somewhere between 8 and 18 inches of snow last night. Not really sure how much as the wind was blowing, so in places the ground is bare and in other places it's 3 feet deep. Tomorrow morning I have to go work in a town (an hour away) that's supposed to get to 40 below zero tonight. NOT looking forward to going, but it's only twice a year and the heater works great in my car! I wonder if shivering can be considered aerobic exercise? hmmm...

<img src="http://phot... Our daughter and her husband were here, as well as in-laws, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, etc. I loved having a full house! I did indulge a bit, but didn't go crazy. I missed some workouts as well. So I'm ready to get back on track and focus on those last five pounds. And those last five have been really stubborn!
I saw the above poster and thought it was fitting for the time b... I've been thinking about this for some time, but need to know if it's the right thing to do.
Since joining SparkPeople, I've lost 45 pounds, but I've lost 85 pounds total since beginning my weight loss journey some four years ago.
So, here's my dilemma, I'd like to have my ticker reflect my actual weight loss, but I'm not sure it's the right thing to do since I didn't lose all the weight with Spark.
The SparkPeople web site, trackers, and especially member support has been i... Tue, 19 Nov 2013 14:51:53 EST Too Funny Not to Share I ran across this the other day and couldn't resist sharing, make sure and read the small print at the bottom of the sign, I almost missed it and wouldn't have posted it without that addition.

Tue, 22 Oct 2013 15:09:01 EST More Alaska At CharterDawns suggestion, I'm doing another blog on our trip to Alaska. Thu, 3 Oct 2013 17:16:42 EST Alaska-Mostly photos with some commentary Our trip to Alaska was a once in a lifetime experience. I don't really know where to start on this blog about the trip, so I think I'll just post a few photos with some short comments so I don't bore everyone! I will say though, it was an amazing trip.

My husband and I hiked up to Exit Glacier on the Kenai Penisula. Mon, 23 Sep 2013 13:15:40 EST Knickers in a Knot
My husband and I are leaving for vacation in Alaska Friday morning. This is a trip we've dreamed about for years. This spring we sold an old tractor my husband had since he was in high school for enough to pay for the plane tickets and car rental, so decided this is the year! Since making that decision, we've had so many people tell us "We always planned on doing that when we retired, but our health won't allow us to go... Photos from the Top! Three years ago I attempted to hike a mountain that was over 14,000 feet tall. I failed. Altitude sickness got the best of me. Dizziness, nausea, finally at less than 500 vertical feet from the summit, I began blacking out and had to go back down. It's the only "cure" for altitude sickness. I was so close I could see the summit, could see people walking around, hear them celebrating their success and knowing I'd failed.
This past Saturday, my husband and I made the attempt again. This t... Mon, 29 Jul 2013 19:39:41 EST Photos of trip to the Hills We went to the mountains with our daughter and son in law for a picnic and short hike. Thu, 25 Jul 2013 15:23:17 EST I am NOT a Dog

There was a time that when I would do something physical, a walk, a bike ride, really anything where I moved my body, I figured I did that, I can have a treat! The problem with that kind of thinking was that I needed to lose weight desperately (to date I've lost 78 pounds) not maintain the weight I had. I had to change the way I thought about food. It shouldn't be a "reward" for good behavior.
I am NOT a d... Mon, 15 Jul 2013 16:43:44 EST NO DIET!

I have friends and family who ask me this question when I don't take something offered at a mealtime gathering: "Whut are ya on a diet or somethin'?" And it's almost always asked with a touch of sarcasm. I have to admit, when I started the whole process this question bothered me. For me, getting healthy (ie losing weight) was very personal. I shared with very few people what my goals were. I felt like what I chose... Tue, 25 Jun 2013 23:12:01 EST Thinking I've been feeling like I should blog for a while now, just unsure about what to blog about. So, I'll start with some pretty awesome stuff!

1) When moving my in-laws to their new place, my jeans kept falling off and I kept jerking them back up, my daughter (the marathon runner a size 4/6) handed me her belt and said "here mom, put this on" I told her no way is YOUR belt going to fit me! Well my spark friends, at her urging and I mean lots of urging, I reluctantly put the belt on k... Fri, 7 Jun 2013 11:44:49 EST Emotions Running Rampant It's been quite the month. My in-laws sold their farm, they've been here most of their married life, 54+ years. They have-----had--- the place across the road from ours. The emotions of them downsizing and moving to a smaller place surprised me. I thought I'd be the "strong one" for this change, but have spent quite a bit of time crying. It's hard to think of them growing older and having to make this move.
Because they lived so close to us and we farmed together for years, we have so m... Thu, 16 May 2013 13:55:10 EST Closer <img src=""

Keep pushing. Keep trying. Keep at it. Do NOT give up. Wed, 1 May 2013 20:21:08 EST Marathoners
My daughter ran the Boston Marathon this year. She finished at 3 hours 24 minutes and had just left the family meeting area when the bombs went off. I am so thankful she and her husband are safe. So very, very thankful. She was able to call me with a lot of difficulty (it took her somewhere around a dozen tries as phone lines were jammed), but managed to get me before I saw the news reports. My husband however, wasn't ... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 20:51:29 EST Self Defense

I took a women's self defense class this weekend with a friend of mine. And no, that's neither her or me in the photo above! All kidding aside, if you're a woman and have never taken a class, I urge you to take one. It was eye opening for me.

I've always considered myself strong for a woman. I grew up bucking hay bales and carrying 5 gallon buckets of water to care for the animals. The job I currently ... Mon, 8 Apr 2013 18:54:52 EST Stolen Sparkle
I've had a rough week. It's always a hard lesson when a "friend"....well, I won't bore you with the details but it wasn't long ago that as soon as I got home I would have eaten the house down. This time, for maybe the first time in my life, I didn't turn to food for comfort. (It probably helps that I don't have anything in the house that's "bad" for me, but I could have easily pigged out on "good" food). I did a LOT of... Wed, 3 Apr 2013 21:50:31 EST Turtle in Peanut Butter I don't run, old softball knee injury, but this was to funny to keep to myself!

And who knows, maybe someday I WILL run again! Even if it is slowly! Very slowly! lol
211 Wed, 27 Mar 2013 22:06:50 EST Accident on the Interstate My husband and I left Friday morning to go see our kids, one is 5 hours away, the other 6 1/2 hour drive. We had a great time with them, it's just always so short. We left from our daughters home Sunday morning after breakfast taking I 70 home. When we got to Glenwood Canyon we came upon a truck/car accident. If you're not familiar with Glenwood Canyon outside of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, google Glenwood Canyon Highway Images, several photos will give you a clear image of it. It's considere... Mon, 18 Mar 2013 18:32:14 EST What I Learned For the Peak 313 challenge we're supposed to blog about how we're growing, physically or spiritually. What I learned this week was to stay the course and not give up. I had hit a plateau and had been stuck at the same weight for more than two months, this week I finally dropped some weight again. I also realized that as I get closer to my goal, the weight is going to come off much slower and I need to change things up. For me this meant changing my workouts and my nutrition.

This ... Thu, 14 Mar 2013 21:23:09 EST I Shape Me

No one can do it for me. This is the same knee I've hurt three times in the past, only this time it's on the back of the knee not the front. The problem is I don't know what I did to hurt it! I woke up with it a little sore yesterday morning, but nothing serious, so I went ahead and did my work out, no problems. Until that afternoon, ouch. By evening I could barely walk.
I've been icing it regularly, which helps a lot and I didn't wor... Thu, 31 Jan 2013 14:36:26 EST You asked for it, I BOUGHT THE JEANS!! photos following!
Okay, folks, you asked to see me in my new size 12 jeans, so here it is! And...the stores had started their winter clearance sales, (seems crazy to have them in January), but I got a new coat too. ; ) Just call me fancy pants! lol Mon, 28 Jan 2013 21:18:12 EST I Couldn't Buy Them.... I went shopping for some jeans last weekend and ever since then I've been trying to figure out something. I have a friend who has been after me to and I quote her "You need to stop wearing such baggy jeans! They look terrible on you!" Really, she is a good friend, just not so tactful at times.
So off to the mall with my husband I went. Here's the awesome, insert happy dance here news:
355 356 354 353
I tried on between 20 and ... Thu, 17 Jan 2013 18:36:31 EST Anorexic? Are you kidding me? I was working this morning and a friend I hadn't seen in a long time came in, looked me up and down and said "Wow! You're so skinny!" and went on and on from there. I told her thank you and said "Yeah, I've been working at it really hard and have 20 to 25 pounds left to get to my goal weight". She said, "You'd look anorexic if you lost that much more! You're so skinny now I don't think you should lose any more!" I think she was being sincere and not just being nice. And my son's girlfriend m... Thu, 10 Jan 2013 17:54:47 EST Snowshoe photo Okay, cut me some slack on these photos. I have to admit I'm terrified about posting a photo of myself to start with. And.....I'm wearing insulated snowboarding pants that fit last winter but I have the waist tightened as much as I can here and the rest is pretty big. Plus, I'm wearing long johns, nylon top, and a puffer vest. See, I told you I was terrified about posting a photo of myself. So please don't judge. However, I ... Fri, 4 Jan 2013 21:23:06 EST Glitter in the Sky We were able to go snowshoeing three times recently. Once with all the kids on Christmas Eve, which was so much fun. My sons girlfriend had a "photo shoot" featuring my son and I on the trail. I found out later it was part of my Christmas gift, so sweet, it made me cry when they gave it to me in a silver frame engraved with Proverbs 31:28a-29.
My husband and I went up New Years day again with our snowshoes on Grand Mesa (the largest flat top mountain in the world). It was cold, sunny an... Wed, 2 Jan 2013 21:27:54 EST Three things. And one more. With my last weigh in, three things were accomplished that I've had my sights on for a long time.

1) I weigh less than my husband. He's tall, fit, and wonderful.

2) I weigh less than my drivers license says I do. Okay, to be totally honest, my drivers license has never said what I really weighed, I'd always taken off several pounds (wait, wait, I said I was being totally honest, more than several pounds), so this is a way to make myself an honest woman! Only problem he... Thu, 29 Nov 2012 11:56:53 EST Whoa baby! Woot! Woot! My last blog was expressing my frustration about not losing anything in a month. I weighed Thursday, Thanksgiving day (yes, it was by design to weigh BEFORE dinner was served--and Thursday is my usual weigh in day, nothing tricky going on here!), and I'd lost 5 can you count them?-- FIVE pounds! Woot! Woot! I have NEVER lost more than two pounds in a week, (and I think that only happened once), a pound to half pound is doing well for me. I think maybe the good Lord was trying to help me get t... Mon, 26 Nov 2012 17:47:33 EST Frustrated. It was my weekly weigh in day today. In four weeks that needle has not moved. While I'm thankful it hasn't moved up, I've been working so hard and really want to see it going down again. I've upped my workouts, adding an additional 20 minutes on a new cardio machine - a lateral trainer, ( pretty awesome fun, reminds me of ice skating and the inner thighs and butt-ouch!), I'm doing more inclines on the treadmill, more time and resistance on the elliptical and am still lifting three times a we... Thu, 15 Nov 2012 18:10:44 EST Is this Gross or am I too "sensitive"? The first two times I "thought" I saw this I was pretty grossed out, but I wasn't sure I was seeing what I thought I was seeing. There's a guy at the rec center who is a runner. He has gotten on the treadmill next to me a few times and as he's running his nose runs. No big deal, my nose tends to run too when I work out. But instead of grabbing a tissue he takes his hand, blows in it and wipes it on the front of his t-shirt. Okay, I'm a mom and a country girl, I've seen lots of pretty gross ... Wed, 14 Nov 2012 17:10:13 EST Sunshine and cattails There is a row of cattails growing along the northern bank of the canal where I took our sons dog for a walk this morning. We (sons dog and I) got to the canal just as the sun rose. The cattails were bursting open and little bits of fluff were drifting slowly over the water as the sunlight caught them. The sun was striking them as they floated just over the gray/blue water, the blue sky and mountains in the background. They almost looked like they were glowing. It made me feel so content. I... Sat, 20 Oct 2012 13:04:03 EST Bored..... I'm not good at waiting, I never have been. I'm sitting here at home while a contractor tries to fix the leak in the back door they installed earlier in the spring. This is the fourth trip trying to get this resolved.
This makes me think about how impatient I am with others things, mainly my weight loss. While I'm glad the weight is coming off, it seems so slow. I watch those shows, (you know the ones) and the trainers are upset with the participants if they don't lose at least 5 pound... Thu, 4 Oct 2012 15:53:23 EST 60 pounds I weighed today, I am down another pound. This makes 60 pounds lost since I started this journey three years ago. I joined SparkPeople in August because I'd been stalled out for about a year (okay, maybe longer). The encouragement and helpful tools are invaluable. I guess I just want to say "Thanks guys, you're a blessing to me". Aww, man, now I'm getting sloppy! 46

Blessings! Thu, 27 Sep 2012 15:23:58 EST
