I haven't eaten gluten since February 23, and I'm giving up sweets for Lent. I've been good with sweets. I'm getting all my steps in and going for runs 3 times a week. I'm drinking Slim & Sassy (SparkMail me if you want more info, otherwise I'll have a blog post in the future) in my water and it is really helping with cravings. It's great!

Then on Tuesday we were doing sprints in my running and jogging class. I must have started w... Fri, 7 Mar 2014 18:12:57 EST I'm Back and Ready to Get Started http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5624762 Wow...It's been 8 1/2 months since my last post. Since I was last active on SparkPeople. That makes me very sad. I love this site and the motivation it brought me. I left last summer because it was too hard to track all of my meals. I was on an elimination diet and I was not repeating meals. I felt it would have taken too much time to input all of the recipes I was making. The diet was really good for me, though. I really worked on my self control. I ate whenever I was hungry, yet I lost quit... Sat, 15 Feb 2014 12:38:48 EST End of May Update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5370629 I didn't realize how long it had been since I posted! Things have been really busy. I had final papers and exams, then I had to move back home from college. I have gone on an elimination diet to cure my eczema and teach myself to eat more clean food. I'm learning a lot about real hunger and what makes me feel good. It is nice to have a strict diet for me, where if I mess up I have to start all over from the beginning. It keeps me from eating things I shouldn't be eating ever, let alone on thi... Tue, 28 May 2013 16:59:57 EST New Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5352530 Like so many other people, I bought the Spark Solution. It inspired me to re-evaluate my goals. Most of the goals on my page have become habits. I just check, check, check at the end of the day. Hooray! That's great! Unfortunately, by not updating this, I'm neglecting the things that I actually do need to work on. So it's update time:

Staying On - These are goals that I have long streaks for and I enjoy the reminder (sometimes I need the reminder). These goals still keep me motivat... Fri, 10 May 2013 20:44:49 EST 33:42 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5346438 Today I ran my second 5k. It was hard, I was tired, sore for some unknown reason, and I may have not waited long enough after lunch. I really wanted to go at 8 this morning, but the gym doesn't open until noon on Sundays. But I pushed through and I did it in...

33:42!

That is 2:05 faster than my time back in March when I ran my first 5k. I only walked one minute and I picked up the pace after that. I was really hoping to get below 34 minutes, and I did. I'm very proud of... Sun, 5 May 2013 16:50:29 EST Reminder: A little is enough http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5341703 Lately, I've been working really hard on getting enough exercise in. I achieved my goal to reach 1000 April minutes (first time I've done that...ever) and I would like to do it again. Past few days, though...I haven't even been hitting 30 minutes of exercise. Not good enough, I tell myself. I'm suppose to be getting 30-40 minutes in to really reap the benefits.

Slow down there, Chloe! You did those shorter workouts for a good reason! You ended up having a physically intense rest d... Wed, 1 May 2013 08:53:11 EST 35 Minutes: I did it! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5333187 Today is day one of week 4 of my 5k Running training. Today is the day I needed to run for 35 minutes without stopping. I knew I could do 20. I knew that, with two rest days, if there was a day this week I could do it, it would be today. But I was still really nervous that I wouldn't be able to. I told myself I needed to do at least 25 minutes.

I started running and the first 10 minutes flew by. Around minute 16, it started getting harder, but I kept plugging along. Minute 25 came ... Tue, 23 Apr 2013 16:46:53 EST Wanted: Meal Suggestions http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5331925 So my eczema is still giving me issues. I've read that eczema can frequently be caused by undiagnosed food sensitivities, so the time has come for me to investigate that. The common sensitivities and the foods of those I eat the most are wheat and dairy. Which I like live on. But for at least a week I'm going to cut them out and see what happens. The gluten I'm not going to be super strict about, but I'm going to avoid pasta and bread, etc. I also am avoiding processed foods as much as possib... Mon, 22 Apr 2013 15:22:27 EST Running a 5k...Still Plugging Along http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5325507 I haven't posted in awhile. Things have been really busy. Lots of school, work, things to do, etc. I haven't been doing superb on the eating front, but I'm committed to making this week better and I have been doing well so far. One thing that has been constant and going well, though, it my 5k training.

Last week was fine, and this week is to be my last week before I start running for 30+ minutes straight. Tuesdays, which come after 2 rest days, are always my best days, so I decided... Tue, 16 Apr 2013 17:44:59 EST I'm back and ready for April! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5309136 As you all know, March was rough for me. I had to stop running and spring break (plus my anniversary with my fiance) brought a change in schedule that made it hard to keep up with my program. I managed to do something every day in March except the last two - a travel day and Easter. Now I am back at school, back to the same ol' routine for the next month and a half, and I am ready to use that to my advantage!

My eczema has not cleared up due to various other things triggering it, b... Tue, 2 Apr 2013 16:27:52 EST Self Control http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5297465 I am so proud of myself. As I posted, I have not been doing well with food lately, and yesterday was no different. To be fair, the pizza was a margarita pizza and the snacking was on peanuts. But still not great. After having cold pizza for breakfast, I decided I wanted today to be different. I did two workout videos, I walked around town with my dad, I've walked up and down the stairs in his house so many times, and I had a fairly healthy lunch.

Then I got hungry. It was about 4:3... Sat, 23 Mar 2013 17:52:28 EST Official 'Eat Better, Feel Fitter' Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5291373 So, as you know, I have not been running, or really doing any cardio (walking to and from the bar doesn't count, neither does walking through town after sampling different olive oils). I also haven't been good with my food. Bar on Saturday, giant ice cream cookie sandwich and half a pizza yesterday, and eating too many cookies that my prof brought to class after having a terrible morning. Yeah...not doing great. Also feeling really crappy physically.

I have my meals planned out ver... Mon, 18 Mar 2013 16:14:22 EST Taking a Break http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5286448 After a lot of thought, pain, and a scolding by my fiance, I have come to a very difficult decision: I am going to take a break from running. My goals to complete a running program and run a 5k? On hold. I will continue to walk, do yoga, and light strength training, but aerobic exercise that causes sweating is off the table to an undetermined amount of time.

This was a really hard decision for me. I have been doing so well lately, and I don't want to stop. Momentum is what keeps me... Thu, 14 Mar 2013 11:20:46 EST 5k Running Training: Week One http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5284196 Today was my first day on my NEW 5k training plan. As I mentioned in my last post, my goal for the next 5 weeks is to be able to run a 5k straight through. Since the first 3 weeks of this program are the same as the last 3 in my previous program, I have decided to use this as an opportunity to increase my speed. If I can hold a faster speed, then hopefully I will be able to sustain a run on a slower speed. Plus, a 10 minute mile is my eventual goal.

So I'm doing 4 mph/6 mph walk/ru... Tue, 12 Mar 2013 16:49:39 EST 5k! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5280055 I did it! After 9 weeks of training, from having never run before, I ran a 5k. I did it in 35:49, which I am happy with. I predicted that I could probably do it in under 36 minutes, and I did! I had to walk 3 minutes and speed walk another 3, but the rest of those 36 minutes (I ran for an extra 11 seconds to get an even number), I was running. I did better the first half. I may have pushed myself too hard or eaten too soon before going out (I wasn't feeling good at the end), so the second hal... Sat, 9 Mar 2013 11:55:22 EST Just Do It http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5277443 Today was a bad day. I was feeling guilty about all the gummy bears I ate last night. I was tired. I didn't want to work out. I complained to my fiance about all the reasons I needed to work out, and all the reason I didn't want to. He told me to just go do it, but it didn't help because HE never works out, so why should he tell me to?

So I sit on the computer and do my computer stuff. I read my SP articles and come across "40 Things to Try When You Don't Want to Work Out." Hey, ma... Thu, 7 Mar 2013 12:55:07 EST 5k Training: Week 8, Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5274619 Last week! WooHoo!

This week is the same as last week, but one interval longer. However, the email said that this week we are suppose to taper our exercises, so we should be doing less time. I don't know, but I decided I would do the 40 minutes. Then I got to the gym and my body was TIRED. It was a struggle, so I decided I would taper this week. I did 20 minutes of intervals, then 5 minutes of power walking. I hope to do 30 minutes on Thursday. Although this workout didn't leave me... Tue, 5 Mar 2013 16:40:22 EST February Progress, March Program http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5268862 I did well at sticking to my program throughout February. As you all know, I've been keeping up with my 5k training and I feel great! A week from tomorrow I will be running a 5k! I also kept with my abdominal work until the last week, when it just got to be too much and I cut down on it. I have definitely improved, but I am happy to be done with this. I didn't see any improvement (different from being able to do more improvement), so I'm going to find new ab exercises to do.

I unfo... Fri, 1 Mar 2013 17:45:20 EST 5k Training: Week 7, Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5264962 Almost there! Just two weeks to go!

I was actually really worried about this week. Last week was hard. But I got through the first day pretty decently! There were times where I wasn't sure I would make it to the end, but I did. I ran 1/4 walk/run intervals for 35 minutes! That is way more than I ever thought I could do. Not only that, but I am at less than a 12 minute mile average pace and, including my 5 minute cool down, I made it 3.18 miles! So, not going to make my goal of a 10... Tue, 26 Feb 2013 16:25:07 EST 5k Training: Week 6, Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5256417 Week 5 was good. I did increase my walking speed for two days, but not my running speed. This was a good decision. I finished the week very strong.

Today was hard. Of course it was, it is my first week with only one minute of walking. Thankfully it was still just 3 minutes of running! I struggled a bit, but I pushed through and now I feel AMAZING!

One thing that has aided in this feeling it the realization that I am improving. I don't feel like it. My body looks the same... Tue, 19 Feb 2013 16:11:58 EST Fighting Temptation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5254994 Today I got my Spark Diet email about overcoming obstacles and one thing it suggested was to write a blog post about a large obstacle of mine. I wasn't going to, but then I faced a big one at lunch, so I decided to share.

Food wise, my obstacle is carbs. I love carbs. Pasta, potatoes, bread, pastries, yum! I tend to not notice I'm feeling full, or not care, and I will eat a lot. Portion control is very hard, but critical for me when it comes to carbs.

Today, I planned my... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 14:35:23 EST Ash Wednesday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5248975 Since I was not raised Christian and only learned the rules for fasting/abstaining during Lent last year, this will be my first year intentionally participating. Therefore, my main goal for the season is to intentionally fast and abstain for meat when necessary.

My "giving up" goal is to eat healthier and smaller portions. Hopefully I will lose 4 pounds, but weight loss is not going to be the focus. Eating smarter is going to be.

My spiritual goal is it read some of the ... Wed, 13 Feb 2013 11:15:36 EST 5k Training: Week 5, Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5248034 WooHoo! I made it to week 5! Today went well. I little difficult, but I got to the end with no problem. Repeating week 4 really helped. And since I am not worried about making it through at my normal pace, this week I am going to work on preparing myself for week 6, when I will only have one week to recover. I plan to increase my walking speed on Thursday to do this. If that goes well, I may increase my running speed on Saturday, but we'll just play it by ear. Tue, 12 Feb 2013 16:40:45 EST 5k Training: Week 4, Take Two http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5241680 This is my second week of Week Four of my 5k training. I reduced my running speed to 5.5mph and that has actually helped a lot for getting me through. It is still very difficult, but since Friday I have been able to finish the workout for the day. I plan to finish out the week with this speed and take next week to increase the intensity.

Thank you to everyone for all the support last week. It made me feel so much better, as did talking to my dad, who runs regularly but still has th... Thu, 7 Feb 2013 14:06:21 EST February Program http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5231958 Since I joined SparkPeople in November, I haven't had much of a program. It started out that I would go to my aerobics class (required to graduate), do the elliptical on Saturday, and do 10-minute videos every other day, resting on Sunday. Then class ended, I was home for two weeks, and I stopped with my routine.

When I got back to school, I started my Rookie 5k training that I've been blogging about. I do that 3 times a week, on a schedule. I don't have a plan for the other days o... Thu, 31 Jan 2013 15:51:26 EST 5k Training: Discouraged http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5230228 Today went even worse than Monday. I was only able to complete 3 2 min walk/3 min run intervals at 3.5/6 mph. But I did push myself, in that once I realized I couldn't continue as planned, I made myself walk at 4 mph. I did that for 3 minutes, ran for 1 and felt okay. Then I walked for another 3 minutes and got a really bad side cramp for who knows what reason. I tried to run the last 3 minutes, but could only do two and walked that last minute.

I'm really discouraged. I'm really n... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 12:20:58 EST 5k Training: Week 4, Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5227476 Well, I am very glad I decided to increase my walking speed and incline last week. It was difficult, but it went very well.

Today was really hard. I really struggled running for 3 continuous minutes. It was extremely hard on my legs, heart, and lungs. I ended up only being able to do 4 of the 5 intervals before I started to feel sick (although that could be because my monthly visitor arrived in the middle of the workout), so I finished out the last 5 minutes by walking at 4 mph (ve... Mon, 28 Jan 2013 16:39:17 EST The Power of Positive Thinking http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5223348 Every once in awhile, I decide to stand in front of the mirror, completely naked, and look at my body to see if I notice it changing. Sometimes all I see is the fat I still want to lose and the reduction (real or imagined, not sure) in breast size.

But sometimes I choose to notice the awkward bumps above my hips are shrinking. Or my waist is slowly appearing. Or that my skin has been looking fantastic. These days usually go much better than the days I notice the negative. These day... I never woke up and felt ready to go to the gym. I always struggled through the running, particularly the last interval. But I moved on to week 3 anyway. I felt my endurance had improved enough for me to add another interval.

And I'm glad I did! Today went wonderfully! I got through my first two intervals no problem, and the second two were difficult on my body, but I was able to maintain my breathing. The 5th interval, which killed me last... I know my limits. I promised myself I would start today and I did.

This week is HARD! I am so glad that the 3 minute walk/2 minute run is for two weeks (going for a longer period of time the second week). I had a lot of trouble sustaining a run for 2 minutes, and I got really scared that I would not improve. But I will. If I stick with the program, I have to improve. It's basic physiology, right?

To... Tue, 15 Jan 2013 17:37:44 EST 5k Training: Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5199235 Today was my second day this week of training, and it went well. Yay!

I'm not going to post my measurements because, to be honest, I'm tiny. I don't want to lose weight, and it's hard to know how many inches I want to lose. But that is what I want to do. My goal for SP is to lose my waist/torso/lower abdomen fat. Obviously, I'm not going to magically accomplish this through this training program, but I'm hoping to see an improvement in my body shape and image by the end.

... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 18:02:52 EST 5k Training: Week 1, Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5195276 Well, I did it! I started! My alarm went off at 8:30 and you should have heard my groan when I realized I had to get up (Just wait until next semester when I have to get up at 6:45 every day, I tell myself). But I got out of bed, ate a Fiber One bar, got dressed, and headed out to the gym.

I was quite pleased with how I did. My walk/run was at 3.5/6 mph. The walking pace kept me feeling like I was actually doing something (as opposed to my strolls through the park), and the running... Mon, 7 Jan 2013 15:18:26 EST Stretch! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5191910 I am very inflexible, so I am not a fan of many stretches. Since I started stretching regularly, it's gotten better, but I still have a long way to go. But in my Week 0 research, I researched good stretches for runners and I found the two best stretches ever.

One is a hip stretch (I love hip stretches!). Lay on your back with your left knee bent. Place your right ankle across your left knee and pull your left knee into your chest. Awesome.

The next one is even better. Al... Sat, 5 Jan 2013 17:17:50 EST 5k Training: Week 0 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5182528 Next Monday I am going to begin training for a 5k. Therefore, this week is going to be dedicated to doing research on running. What should I wear (hopefully my 4-year-old running shoes will do)? What is proper form? How should I stretch? What should I eat before/after? What type of cross training am I going to do? I'm excited to be getting so close to this next big commitment and goal. Mon, 31 Dec 2012 16:43:39 EST Not Sick! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5175313 Thursday, my fiance (official as of last Sunday!) picked up the stomach flu at work, but didn't realize it until after he kissed me hello and drank out of my water bottle. Luckily, my symptoms were pretty mild, no throwing up or diarrhea at all. I thought the stomach ache was from eating junk Thursday at first, but then I felt crummy for 3 days. Did not eat much at all, but still managed at least 1000 calories every day and even got into my calorie range 2 of those days. No exercise at all, n... I very rarely actually felt hungry.

But now, I am exercising regularly and watching what I eat. I only eat the calories allotted for me based on my weight and activity level. Woot! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5152774 Motivation-wise, this past week has been bad. I've stuck with all my SparkPeople plans; that motivation is still going. But it is the first week after Thanksgiving break and I was so not up for doing anything. At all.

But today has been great! I didn't get out of bed until almost 10, but that's okay. Sat, 1 Dec 2012 16:12:34 EST Oh, boy. What did I just decide? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5148450 Today I took the "are you ready to run" quiz and then something on the message boards got me thinking about running a 5k. I searched SparkTeams and found multiple 5k training groups. In particular, a SparkPeople run, 8-week training program with no experience needed. I have never run before. In fact, my endurance is terrible and running aggravates it more than anything else. But I've always wanted to be able to run because it's an easy thing I can do anywhere and I really see it as the best w... Tue, 27 Nov 2012 13:42:51 EST Craving Everything! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5147401 I've been craving food lately. Nothing specific, just food. I've already had my afternoon snack, so I need to wait until after dinner to determine if I have enough calories for a snack. I also have a list of things I really want to buy from Amazon. I'm craving the purchase and getting mail! But in 3 weeks I will be getting about $70 in Amazon credit, so I have to wait until then.

Resisting cravings is super tough. For some reason, today was different.

My dad is a member of Life Time Fitness and always wants me to go work out there. Finally, thanks to SparkPeople, I am motivated and held accountable. Fri, 23 Nov 2012 17:25:21 EST I'm off today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5142597 I am so happy to be on break, but I knew coming home would throw me off. I am not eating as well and I'm not walking. Yesterday I only logged 3600 step. 1900 of them taken before leaving campus at 11am. Yeah. In 4 hours, I walked more steps than I did in the remaining 12 hours I was up (although I did have to remove my pedometer when I worked out).

I did work out, though. If you're interested in reading that, here it is:
healthypeoplehealthyplanet.wordpress
.com/

I don't know if I'll ... Wed, 14 Nov 2012 17:10:03 EST
