My program includes running roughly every other day, hula hooping and some light weight work. Also I'm trying hard to eat well and keep my carbs in check. The scale absolutely won't budge!! My weight fluctuates day-to-day in a 3-lb range and I've been still in that range.

Now the positives - i've taken an inch off my wa... Tue, 27 Aug 2013 10:17:19 EST Not so goddesslike today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5457494 While I'm feeling committed to really trying hard to eat well, exercise and lose some weight, today was one of those days when my body just felt tired. It always seems that when I start a strength workout after a long hiatus, two days later I pay for it! My arms and legs ache!! adn to top it off from some of the hula-hooping work I've done trying to spin in my non-natural direction I have a whopper of a bruise on my hip.

But on the upside, my evening run was a little faster time... Fri, 16 Aug 2013 19:18:44 EST Trying some new things http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5455405 Trying to mix it up a little and hula hoop every day. There is some lore on the web that it is a quick way to flatten your stomach and get a beautiful hour-glass shape! Wed, 14 Aug 2013 19:57:09 EST Trying to get back on track! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5428162 Doing this in small steps, but managed to get two 30 minutes runs in this weekend. The best part is that unlike when I've previously gotten back into running, these two runs were easy and I felt strong! Sun, 21 Jul 2013 11:08:14 EST Can I do it again? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4087842 It's been nearly three years nice my last blog post and a serious exercise and eating regimen. I'm feeling rather gross at the moment. My weight has been holding around 145 lbs over the past two years and I've been ok with that. In the past 3 months, though, I've been seriously hungry and eating everything in sight. My weight has crept up to ~150 lbs, ugh! This morning, I've decided to try to re-turn over that leaf. I redid my measurements (only slightly horrifying) and immediately afte... Sun, 13 Mar 2011 10:19:50 EST I want a new trophy! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1135182 When I joined SparkPeople I was obsessed with Sparkpoints and would come in everyday and log all my food/exercise/water drunk etc, and was rewarded by seeing those point totals increase. There was also a relatively low barrier to getting the next trophy! I've now gotten lazy and think, since I generally eat pretty well - I can't be bothered to enter in all my food/daily goals - it just takes too long! I'm somewhat satisfied by just entering in my exercise and taking login points. I also s... Fri, 11 Apr 2008 08:03:24 EST Spring is around the corner http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1074194 So I thought it was a little goofy when the government decided to move daylight savings time. But I'm really thankful for it now! I'm just so much more at peace getting home from work while its still light out! Last night, I even got in a run outside after work since it wasn't too cold. Now even though I managed to finish the run (just over 3.5 miles) without stopping, I felt old and slow all the way - at no time more so when one of those uber-running jocks blew by me. Seriously, I ate d... Fri, 14 Mar 2008 07:49:04 EST Those Girl Scout cookies are killing me! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1056991 Up until last month, I had been doing great on weight maintenence and managed to keep my weight hovering between 134-6 lbs even through the holidays. Although over the past month, its crept up! I'm now 139-40 lbs! Ugh! It feels like its all come in around my middle and I only have two and a half weeks to go until Florida and donning a bathing suit!

I'm trying hard to motivate myself to get back on the wagon. I had a small victory last night by getting in a run mid-week. That ... Thu, 6 Mar 2008 08:15:20 EST Slow Steady Progress http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=691116 I joined SP in late June and last took my measurements on July 5th. My goal was to get to 135 lbs (getting those last stubborn 5-7 lbs off!!)When I joined, my weight was bouncing between 142 and 140 lbs, and now I'm bouncing between 137-136 lbs - losing on order one lb/week. I was more surprised to see the change in my measurements - my waist (which I've been complaining about bitterly) is 2 inches smaller and my hips are 1.5 inches leaner. Thanks again SparkGods! Its so cool to see some... Tue, 7 Aug 2007 22:14:52 EST Not in control of lunch today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=680484 We had a retirement luncheon for one of our chemists who is moving on to hopefully less stressful endeavors and one of the senior people at the lunch ordered the all the food for our group - it was buffalo wings, onion rings and pizza! Not a lot of options and the only green thing I saw was the celery that came with the wings! But it was so yummy!! Sometimes you just have to roll with it! Somehow I even managed to stay within my calorie limits for the day.

On the positive side ... Tue, 31 Jul 2007 22:07:17 EST Getting close to my weight goal, what's next? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=676887 For the past couple of days, my weight has been 137 lbs and I now feel as if my 135 lbs weight goal is within reach. (Thanks SparkGods!) Even before attaining it, I'm already wondering whether I should then lower my goal to 130 lbs. On one hand, as a 40-yr old, 5'8" woman - 130 lbs seems a little light to me (although I did weigh that or less all through college+grad school) On the other hand - I still seems to have fat surronding my belly. Its looking a little better this month with the ... Sun, 29 Jul 2007 21:03:15 EST New 5K time - WooHoo! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=673131 A BIG, BIG thank you to Tibbiterri who gave me some training tips for my run today! It totally worked and I ran my fastest 5K to date!

On advice from TT, I timed each mile of my running route and used that as motivation to pick up the pace. So I called up my running route on on gwmap-pedometer and noted where the 1 and 2 mile marks were, as well as the 5K finish. I used my running watch to time each leg of the run. I ran the first mile at what I thought was a fairly comfortable... Thu, 26 Jul 2007 22:33:57 EST Pizza for dinner http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=671542 Busy day today - went to work this morning, then picked up my husband and kids at noon and headed off to my department picnic for a few hours. Left at 4 pm to head over to my son's preschool for a farewell party for one of the teachers. Dropped DH and the little chicks at home and went back to work for an hour to set a few things up in preparation for tomorrow. Got home and then biked over to the pool to catch up with the family. Needless to say when we got back home again, neither DH or... Wed, 25 Jul 2007 23:22:11 EST Tired, tired, tired http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=669671 I don't know why I'm so exhausted today! My 3-year old and alarm stand-in slept in until 7 am this morning, giving all of us an extra hours sleep. As a result, I did not make my morning run today. No time before work. But as a plus, I did discover that if you run immediately following dinner - it completely kills your desire for dessert. Of course, I didn't feel so great afterwards, but still got in my 3-miles.

On a related note, I think I need a new running goal. My last coup... Tue, 24 Jul 2007 22:50:21 EST Back from vacation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=667813 I just got back from spending a week on the beach with my DH and 2 wonderful kids. I have to say, back in June, I was kind of dreading donning a bathing suit for 7 days in a row. But now that its over - it wasn't too bad. I think following the Spark strength training plan over the past 3 weeks has begun to show some results. I'm not sure that it has translated into any weight loss but overall, my body feels much more toned - particularly my abs, which are a constant source of discomfort f... Mon, 23 Jul 2007 22:10:15 EST Tricked my body today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=650635 It was such a beautiful evening (the humidity finally broke here on the east coast!) that I decided to trick my body and attempt an after-dinner run, in lieu of my first thing in the morning routine! Went 3 miles easily - maybe my body wasn't so fooled.

The sad part of it is though after I got home and showered off - I still felt big and bloated. Even though intellectually I know I'm at my lowest weight in 6 years - I still look in the mirror and am unhappy with what I see. I t... Thu, 12 Jul 2007 22:28:25 EST Pre-pregnancy pants!! Inconceivable! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=649007 Whoo-hoo! I got into my pre-first pregnancy pants today!!! I was having a terrible time getting dressed this morning as nothing was fittng properly. When this happens I head to my closet of older clothes - those put aside that are either too big or too little. Well, I tried on a pair of pants I haven't worn in 6 and 1/2 years (has it really been that long???) and they fit!! Ok - they were just slightly snug across the waist as I'm still a battling that mommy-tummy but were perfect throu... Wed, 11 Jul 2007 22:55:22 EST Hurts so good??? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=638979 My thighs aren't sure today. Yesterday - since it was a holiday, I did a quick 2.5 mile run and then came home to strength train in earnest. I'm not sure whether it was the lunges or squats that did me in, but I can really feel it today!

I read somewhere (a long time ago) that your muscles are most sore two days after a big workout - if that's the case, I'm in serious trouble tomorrow! Thu, 5 Jul 2007 21:50:37 EST Enjoying the East coast weather http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=635883 I know there has been a lot of rain in the midwest and Texas - but on the east coast, we've just had one of the nicest Junes I can remember. The humidity and temperature in general have been low. Its been sunny during the days and waiting until evening to rain.

As I've mentioned in a previous post - I've been running mostly on weekends and one of my goals is to get an extra run in mid-week. I managed to slip in a quick 2.5 miles before I got ready for work this morning and it ... Tue, 3 Jul 2007 23:33:05 EST Tried Strength training today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=634332 Over the last year, I've been pretty good about running several times a week but lousy about getting in that strength training. it's not like I don't have access to the equipment. I have some free weights and resistance bands. I just have committed to doing it. Well that changed today. When i looked over the Spark strength training program suggested for me, I thought it looked easy. Well, let me tell you, it wasn't! Because I think I should have had an easier time with it, showed m... Mon, 2 Jul 2007 23:17:46 EST Well, it started good.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=632249 On day 2 with SP, I was feeling great and motivated this morning. So I lengthen by morning run by 10% - going from 3.5 to 3.8 miles. The first mile is always tough but overall I was pleased with how easily I finished the increased distance. To think a couple of weeks ago, I was struggling to complete a 5K.

Eating through the first half of the day was good as well - I added some blueberries to my morning granola + yogurt combo to get that extra fruit serving in and then for lunch... Sun, 1 Jul 2007 19:46:25 EST What a beautiful morning!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=630414 It was a perfect morning for a run! About 65 degrees and low humidity. I started running about 18 months ago and at first was really frustrated that it seemed to have no effect on my weight. It wasn't until I made some dietary changes about 2 months later that those extra pounds really started to come off.

The biggest factor that kept me running and motivated all this time was my wonderful next door neighbor. She got up early in the morning with me 3 times a week to hit the p... Sat, 30 Jun 2007 10:15:51 EST
