That means dropping the amount of calories I think I am going to be burning weekly to be a bit more realistic. My calorie burn used to exceed my goals but then the summer weather hit and getting outside was much harder for me. I have reduced my goals and will start increasing them gradually again. Getting outside in the Fall is much easier for me and we just joined a gym so that swimming can be a year ... This is a BIG DEAL because I have thyroid disease and over the years my need for a nap co... Tue, 14 Aug 2012 11:59:05 EST How I waste time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5010771 I'm supposed to blog about how I waste time. Well - that's really easy these last two weeks - I have been addicted to the Olympics!!!! 104 Sat, 11 Aug 2012 10:29:07 EST No Gluten at our house.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5008027 We are using the Blood Sugar Solution as our "guide" to healing ourselves with food (instead of medication). First step - Gluten Free - ACCOMPLISHED! I can't believe how easy it is to go gluten free. I think people find it daunting because they are trying to replace junk foods and guess what - junk food is junk food whether it is gluten free or not - so don't eat it!!!

Since I am a pastry chef I would like to be able to bake gluten free but for now I will use recipes that are ... Thu, 9 Aug 2012 10:14:02 EST The Blood Sugar Solution (a bit of a book review) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5000452 So...I read it (I love information). It all made sense to me. We CAN cure ourselves with food (instead of trying to kill ourselves with it!!)

The author suggests going Gluten Free, Dairy Free and eating a low glycemic diet. I have gone gluten free for about a week now and I feel fantastic! I have thyroid disease and never new that gluten intolerance is also an autoimmune disease.

My suggestion - read the book and take whatever information is useful for you and us... Thu, 26 Jul 2012 08:07:12 EST I'M BACK http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4967097 We had huge storms here last week and lost power for 3 days. It is so strange - we stayed at a hotel pretty close to our house - but it's odd being in the same city as your house and not really being able to go there. No cooking dinner, no relaxing - seems like we were running around trying to stay busy because who is going to sit in a hotel room all day?

Worse than having no power (we took a family vote!) - no internet or cable for 10 days!! That was strange too - the storms to... Thu, 12 Jul 2012 11:51:22 EST The early bird gets the worm...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4951517 I think this is the first Summer morning (since my kids finished school) that I have actually gotten up early and gotten out for a great walk. 4.05 miles before 8 am. I love starting the day this way!!!

I'm ready to kick June's butt for being so hard on me!!!

Have a great day everyone! Mon, 2 Jul 2012 09:06:12 EST July 1, 2012 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4950692 With the crazy hot weather in June this year, my mileage for June went down instead of up! I was also sick for part of the month and couldn't seem to get back on track - then vacation - UGH! My brain is on track - I just need the weather to cooperate more. I am going to take the suggestion of walking at the mall seriously this month!

Since I failed miserably at my goals for June, I have decided that my goals for July are to simply stay on track and do the best that I can. I hav... Sun, 1 Jul 2012 17:46:40 EST ITS HOT!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4948101 OMG- I really can't do anything outside in this weather. We are having record breaking heat waves in the Midwest. HELP! I'm so tired of being cooped up for exercise - I need to get out and walk. Hoping it's cooler at 6 am tomorrow - this morning it was 86!!!! Fri, 29 Jun 2012 19:08:11 EST Partially on track.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4943892 Well....I'm back on track with my workouts BUT I refuse to track my food and I refuse to weigh myself. So I said it! I could not believe how hard it was to get back on track after being sick and going on vacation - I need a new plan for when those things come around again. As for tracking food - well, I'm eating 90% fruits and vegetables and the food tracker kept telling me I wasn't eating enough so I just stopped tracking! The scale - well, I'm sort of afraid of it anyway so I'm staying ... Tue, 26 Jun 2012 22:29:50 EST Tough Days http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4934315 WOW it's hard to get back on track after being sick and then going on vacation. I was sick for an entire week and was so slow to get back walking. Then vacation. UGH.

I didn't eat horribly on vacation, I just didn't eat the way I do when I'm at home. It is so much easier when you are in complete control and cooking your own meals. I am still doing eat to live - 90% of my calories coming from fruits, vegetables and beans. I tried to stick to this on vacation but it was reall... Wed, 20 Jun 2012 08:23:21 EST Interesting thing about fruits and vegetables http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4923225 This is short and sweet.

I can't believe how many fruits and vegetables you can eat and NOT go anywhere near your spark calories for the day. IT IS FANTASTIC! Tue, 12 Jun 2012 12:02:31 EST EAT TO LIVE - Day 1 (Day 100) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4921146 I am starting the Eat to Live program today. I'm not calling it a diet, because it isn't a diet. Just like everything else I am doing - it is for my health and well being. Dr. Fuhrman (the author) describes this way of life not as Vegan, but as Nutritarian - his term for feeding our bodies with nutritious food and leaving all of the garbage out. We all know that's what it is, we have just been brainwashed to think that a packaged granola bar is "health food" even when it contains countless... Mon, 11 Jun 2012 07:47:06 EST Tough week of rest http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4915939 Well, I have had a horrible cold all week. I normally push through but have felt so awful that the last time I walked was Tuesday and that was only a mile and a half walk with the dogs, so I really don't count that :( It's funny to me that it is such a struggle to REST. Someday I'll figure out the right balance.

I'm resting today too because even though I felt awful yesterday it was the opening of my husband's new office last night. Lot's of people, no food enticed me and I di... Thu, 7 Jun 2012 08:57:27 EST Reaching goals..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4909848 After feeling like a complete slug yesterday, I reached a new goal today - 7.48 miles. I also found that spark only gives you credit for doing 120 minutes of exercise a day :( I walked 3.5 miles alone and then another 4 miles with my husband. Fantastic morning!

Now it's time to start the day - grocery shopping, cooking, family time. FUN!

Have a great day everyone! Sun, 3 Jun 2012 11:02:06 EST Finishing May 2012 Strong - Goals for June 2012 - The new day 90 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4907102 I had a great month. I tracked my monthly steps in the 10,000 step group and I logged 477,032 for the month! WOW! That averages 15,388 steps a day, which I am very happy with. I logged 94.54 miles walking, averaging a little over 3 miles a day -not bad for a girl who started out walking a half mile around the block 90 days ago today! I have renumbered my days to coincide with when I started exercising because I feel that is when the real work started, so this is day 90 of my journey inst... Fri, 1 Jun 2012 09:23:14 EST Best Workout Day EVER! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4899734 Today I logged my longest walk yet - 6.09 miles! I felt great - always listening to my body. I didn't wake up thinking...today I'm going to walk my longest walk but....the weather was perfect, I was up early and it was so quiet and peaceful I just couldn't resist. These long walks are time consuming, but SO worth getting up early for.

Last week I fell short of my calorie burn by a little less than 100 calories - I think it is because I haven't been on the elliptical as much wh... Sun, 27 May 2012 09:38:12 EST Perseverence http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4895751 This week has been the most difficult ever. We are very private and it is difficult for me to even write about very personal things, but our oldest son is the source of my personal struggle this week. We are still in the midst of the struggle, trying to come up with a plan. This is nothing new for us, but there is a difference this week - I haven't let the stress wear me down. I have taken care of myself. I have exercised, eaten right and gotten enough sleep. While I am still struggling... Thu, 24 May 2012 08:27:40 EST The World According to Nike+ http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4888355 Ever since I started walking I have been using the Nike+ app on my phone. It has motivated me to walk over 100 miles in about 60 days. It has started to get much warmer on my walks and it was getting very irritating to carry my phone with me so I invested in the Nike+ Sportwatch. I love it! I didn't want to have to figure out a new way of tracking, and I didn't want to start over with my mileage count on another site because I am sort of crazy that way....

I have been doing one ... Sat, 19 May 2012 09:43:24 EST Working out after a rest day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4882361 I logged my longest walk yet - 4.73 miles AND got on the elliptical for 20 minutes. Finally realizing that those rest days actually allow me to become stronger - what an amazing thing!

I had no problems getting in my 10,000 steps on Monday even though it was a rest day - I ran errands the entire day. I'm going to have to make sure I plan like that weekly because I really feel defeated when I don't get in 10,000 steps no matter what.

Today I should log the most steps ... Tue, 15 May 2012 10:42:22 EST FINISHING ANOTHER WEEK WITH VERY GOOD NEWS! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4878647 I went to the cardiologist today and got the results from my stress test and echo and they were PERFECT! My cholesterol has been high for 28 years that I know of and the doctor wants me to follow a plant based diet and eat as much fiber as possible to get it down because I will not take anything for it. She also told me that my resting heart rate is very high and doesn't want me to do anything intense until I get that down to under 60 at rest. She has given me 4 months to do this and I am u... Sat, 12 May 2012 19:45:32 EST Day off winds up scary! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4872696 So, I decided to take Monday off from exercise because my body really was telling me it needed it. I'm learning slowly to listen to my body. I spent the day doing whatever I could to get steps in around the house and I wound up with 9354 for the day. I was shooting for 10,000 but still pretty happy with my number. Boy - I never realized how hard it is to get those steps in without ANY exercise. What an exercise addict I have become in just 72 days!! I am in awe of its power to change eve... Tue, 8 May 2012 17:04:50 EST Taking a Day Off...... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4870046 Today I have decided to take the day off from exercise. I can't believe how hard it is already and it's not even 9:00 am!! I also can't believe how addicted I have become to exercise after just over two months (FANTASTIC!). I didn't take any days off last week and I know that my body needs time to rest. Now it is time to just relax (can mom's do this?) and let my body rejuvenate if only for a day. I'll check in later and post how the day went -this is such a big step for me - completely... Mon, 7 May 2012 08:47:49 EST Great Week! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4868687 Today is day 71 of my journey - the journey to a happier, healthier me! I had a FANTASTIC week last week. I broke all of my goals - walked more than I thought I would, worked our more than I thought I would and continued to input every single thing that I ate into my food journal. I'm still losing slowly, but I keep myself in check because I know that slow and steady will win this race! I continue to be ADDICTED to walking and my goals are even bigger this week (but not CRAZY!!)
<B... Sun, 6 May 2012 10:07:25 EST Starting May STRONG! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4861987 I got up this morning to a dreary midwest day and decided that wasn't going to stop me from walking. I put on my raincoat and off I went! I walked 3 1/2 miles, came home and got my dogs and took them for a mile walk too! I didn't even realize until I came home that it had never even started raining. I'm so glad that I didn't let the weather forecast stop me from getting outside. What a great start for the month! Tomorrow we are supposed to have thunderstorms all day and that isn't going... Tue, 1 May 2012 21:15:26 EST Day 63 and my first blog entry http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4856072 Well today starts day 63 of this journey to become fit and healthy. I have been faithful to the site, logging in every day - tracking my food and fitness has been a great help to keep me on track. I can't believe how much my attitude has changed in these past two months about fitness. I always thought that since I was a slow loser that fitness really didn't matter - no matter how much I exercised I was going to lose at a slow pace - so why even bother to exercise? WELL - now I can't believ... Sat, 28 Apr 2012 10:49:23 EST
