CHATELAINE19's SparkPeople Blog CHATELAINE19's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community It's been awhile Wow- I've been MIA for 3 weeks now from Spark and normal life, but I'm back. It felt great to be home doing all my normal stuff today including a workout.
After working 12 out of 14 days, the boys and I took a week off for camping. Nothing like a week in the woods to clear your head and revive your spirit!! We all came home a little browner, with a few more bug bites than before, and grateful for our beds.
I looove our state! There are so many great places that I never get tired... I've not been doing these reports weekly for the past month- on purpose. I've reflected on it weekly, but didn't feel like blogging about it.
However, I do want to keep this line of thought going, and I love hearing back from my SparkFriends so here goes the next installment.

According to my SP ticker, I am in my 7th week of maintenance. That feels great especially since making good choices is just almost second nature now. This is big suc... Tue, 10 Apr 2012 17:54:16 EST Gonna Be Absent for a Bit Are you like me? I can't stand the day before vacation- ARGHH!! All the prep work, and all the anticipation is killer. Plus, hubby is having a horrible day at work so I just feel so bad for him that it's bringing me down. I obviously need to get a grip on myself!!

For the first time since we had kids, hubby and I are going on vacation without the kids. 40 I still can't believe that we're doing it, but we are!! We're celebrating our 20th anniversary so I think we'r... Fri, 23 Mar 2012 14:13:27 EST What I've Done Right Oh Hallelujah, even though we had a mild winter, it is pretty much over. Spring has sprung. The daffodils are everywhere. The tulip trees have started to bloom. I even had an iris bloom over the weekend. I love, love, love Spring.

The past week was interesting. After working for over a year to reach the goal of running the half marathon, it felt odd to have that one "under my belt". I have learned enough about myself to know I have to keep goals set or else I get laaazzzy. ... Mon, 12 Mar 2012 12:08:32 EST I'm officially a Half Marathoner! So after I posted yesterday's blog -chocked full of excitement, I got a little worried.
"Oh dear, what if it wasn't as much fun as I remembered? What if I get disappointed? What if I disappoint my family? What if I can't do it?"

Ridiculous, right? I've been training for months.
Husband got a few pics....1st one before the race.

I don't know who I was waving at, but it looks like I wa... Sun, 4 Mar 2012 15:34:35 EST Race Weekend!!!!!!! Can you feel the excitement? First, here's a few pictures from Colin's race this morning. The boy is so photogenic it's ridiculous!

You can never have too much fun at a race.

Hence, the cow!

Today we are the cheerleaders.

But tomorrow... I decided to add the "we've done right" because I do get motivated by your comments on this blog about what you've done right this past week. So do share "What did you do right this past week?".

For me, let's see...
1. It feels great that another Sparker has taken up the call to start her week off on a positive note and blog about what she's done right. 224 "TravelGrrl"

2. Another Sparkfriend has commented more than once that I am inspiring her to thin... Mon, 27 Feb 2012 15:18:00 EST What I've Done Right This Week Well, it's a day late (and probably a dollar short), but whatever! I was just too swamped yesterday.

So what did I accomplish last week:

1. I asked for and got help by way of co-leaders for the 2 sparkteams I've been leading since December. 224 That took some pressure off me because I do care if my teammates are getting inspired, motivated, encouraged, and answered. 252

2. I survived my oldest son's 16th birthday. He's offficially li... Tue, 21 Feb 2012 15:31:08 EST My Weekend So as I ran 10 miles this morning, I decided that physically it was easier than what I was doing 16 years ago today... Lying in a hospital bed after 6 weeks of bed rest trying to prevent the premature birth of my first child. We bought 6 weeks of time, but couldn't get past 34 weeks pregnancy. So on this day 16 years ago, I had many tubes running in and out of me to keep my body and that precious baby's body alive until he could be born. This day was a day of great anxiety because on the m... Sat, 18 Feb 2012 15:58:59 EST What I've Done Right Dadgum, why is life such a roller coaster?! Last Monday, I felt on top of the world, but the week that followed that Monday was H-A-R-D!! I'm having a hard time coming up with what I did right this past week because I keep thinking of what I did wrong (like eat too many fatty meals).

Here goes...

1. I completed my first 12 mile run on Friday. I feel truly ready for the half marathon! 312

2. I kept track of all my food everyday even when I knew i... Mon, 13 Feb 2012 18:40:57 EST Kids Say the Darndest Things I thought someone else could use a good chuckle this Hump Day.

334

So I brought in the pink bag from VS yesterday. My youngest saw the bag, rolled his eyes, and commented that he would never understand why girls needed a whole store to buy underwear and boys only have A shelf at the store.
I told him I'd ask him if he'd figured it out when he was about 30! 246

He didn't think it was funny, but I thought it was HI-larious! My husb... So I figure it's about time to shake things up.
I stepped way out of my comfort zone and bought a cocktail dress and heels and met my husband for a "night out".

That's... Mon, 6 Feb 2012 12:06:43 EST What I Did Right Wow- I think this is our 4th week to post about what we've done right in the past week!

So #1- I'm starting my week off on a positive note for the 4th week in a row by looking back on the past week and appreciating what I accomplished for my health!

#2 I didn't let a crazier-than-usual schedule mess me up last week. When I had to postpone my long run, I didn't sweat it. I didn't feel like a failure because of it. I simply ran a great run (for me) a day later than norm... Mon, 30 Jan 2012 13:01:03 EST Need Encouragement... SparkFriends are there. Sometimes it's encouragement. Sometimes it's just a kick in the butt to get going again. Whatever the case, SP and my SparkFriends have come to my rescue time and time again, and I hope I've done the same for a few friends.
Some of you have read that D2BD-DIVA and I have challenged each other to start our week off on a positive note by posting of the things we did right that past week. We both hope that others will join us for themselves, but also for us. We get a charge out of readi... Wed, 25 Jan 2012 11:19:11 EST What I've Done Right Time for my 3rd installment of "What I've Done Right". Ugh-Even though I'm not feeling very positive right now, I know I've still got something to crow about this week (as do we all). So in the spirit of the challenge, here goes...

1. I ran my first 10 mile run on Friday. That was a big milestone in my mind for the half marathon training.

2. I bought a new pair of jeans because all of mine were too baggy. That was lots of fun!

3. At this weekend's pizza pa... Tue, 24 Jan 2012 09:49:26 EST What I did Right this Week SparkFriend, D2BD-DIVA, and I decided to do this "positive reinforcement" thing weekly. We both got a boost last week from taking time to think about the "right" things we'd done in our health journeys, share it, and encourage each other.

For the past week...
1. I stuck to the half marathon training schedule. The HM is about 6 weeks away!!
2. I lost 1 pound!
3. Something I never thought to look at until DIVA mentioned it. I am #1724 on the sparkpoints leaderbo... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 11:36:55 EST Freaking Headwind So in training for the half marathon, today's run was scheduled to be 8 miles. Next week we bump up to 10. I have to be honest. I'm a little nervous about that. The jump from 6 to 8 didn't bother me, but I'm not sure about next week's jump. I know, I know- It'll be fine. This is what we're conditioning our bodies to do.
I was pleased with my run today. I ran 8.5 miles and only 3 minutes slower than last week's flat 8 mile run. So my time is improving.
My gripe- The headwind ... Fri, 13 Jan 2012 18:47:39 EST What I've Done Right Thanks to fellow Sparker, D2BD-DIVA, for the idea of focusing on the positive things we've done rather than obsessing about what we messed up on. She listed and challenged her team to list 3 things they've done right in the New Year. So here goes...

1. I've tracked my food daily which helps me eat better.
2. I've increased my long run to 8 miles with no problems and would've never dreamed I could do that.
3. I've been conscious everyday of being a kinder, easier "Me". ... Sun, 8 Jan 2012 15:28:30 EST Loved this blog I love the following blog entry by a fellow Sparker.

_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4659555

If you need encouragement, especially if you're feeling overwhelmed by all these new changes you're trying to make, you have got to read this. She sums it up so well.

All I could add is "ditto". Thu, 5 Jan 2012 16:42:37 EST Sooo much going on SparkFriends, I have not been very faithful to journal these last few months. Life has been absolutely insane... Crazier than late spring of this year when my house broke for those who remember that. I wanted to take a minute to share with you. It's good for me to write it, and someone else might need to read it.
In September, my Mom who is disabled from heart disease (She's young, only 58) became sicker. After 25 years of battling heart disease, she was suddenly much worse and even... Fri, 30 Dec 2011 21:30:04 EST Snowman, Tiny Snowman!

Check out today's AWESOME snowman. Wow, I have never seen snow so early! Wed, 7 Dec 2011 12:13:35 EST "Today I will do what others won't So That tomorrow I can do what others can't." As winter weather sits in and mileage increases for the half marathon training, this has become my mantra. I found it a few weeks ago on a SparkTeam page. I think the author was unknown.

I have always put inspirational quotes and scriptures around me. This one is now on my closet door. When it's time to get dressed for running, it's there to see. When I'm not wanting to take the time to run or get out in the weather, it's there to see.

It reminds me of all that I ... Mon, 5 Dec 2011 17:27:04 EST Tight Muscle problem- Advice? Well, my schedule wouldn't let me wait out the rain today so I ran my 3 miles in the rain. I usually enjoy it because I don't get so hot. Like I always tell me boys "You're not made of sugar. You won't melt" So gotta' be an example, right?

Okay, my problem... My right calf muscle keeps tightening up on me. I'm warming up as usual, but after I start running that thing starts getting tight. It's not so bad that I can't run, but I don't want to hurt myself. It has helped to pa... Tue, 15 Nov 2011 17:38:42 EST Doubled my Warm-Up time for Twice the Results So I knew by last week that I wasn't warming up enough before I started running. Why? Well, because when I'm ready to run... I'm ready to run!
It took a couple of weeks of talking to myself, but I doubled my warm up time/distance this morning.
What do ya know? I was running twice as far before I had to slow down and catch my breath. Plus, I was able to maintain my elusive "12 minute mile" easily. That's big for me.
My goal is to run the half marathon closer to 2.5 hou... Mon, 31 Oct 2011 11:15:55 EST Halloween Pics- Spooky Fun

Still having problems getting pictures to upload. I may have gotten one through this time...Now I'm up to 2 pics... Patience is a virtue, right?

Sun, 30 Oct 2011 16:28:19 EST Dadgum! Doc added a pill to me.... As many of you know, the past year has been full of health changes for me. I've worked so hard and was feeling proud of myself as I ran a few miles on my birthday morning (as yesterday's blog shows). Today, I had a 6 month check up with the doc. I should've known I was in for it when my patient printout that the nurse and doctor take their notes on had a new label on it...
Across the top in BIG, BOLD print it read "40 YEAR OLD"!
Really? Was that some magical doorway to scream... Thu, 20 Oct 2011 17:21:35 EST Birthday Victory Today is my birthday, and let me tell you if not for the tools and motivation I have found on SP this past year; today would not feel like the victory it is!

Today, I turn 40! This morning I ran 3 miles in 35 minutes. There's something I couldn't do last year let alone when I was 20. My blood pressure still reads perfect after 7 months of no medication. My knees no longer hurt at the end of the day. I could go on....

The point to all of this... SparkPeople gave me... Wed, 19 Oct 2011 11:17:01 EST My motivation? My family tree Don't have a title for this one yet. There are so many points to make. Maybe by the end I'll figure out that title.
In the past week, life did what it does best... Got harder! I'm not complaining. Things could always be worse, and I thank God that I am able to deal with what needs done right now.
Last Thursday, while I had my Mom at the ER for her heart, my grandmother passed away (Daddy's side). She was 86 and had lived a sweet and faithful life. So much of who I am including... Wed, 21 Sep 2011 10:43:44 EST Our ER trip this weekend- It's a good laugh for Monday morning. Boys- What are they thinking? Hubby and I are watching a movie Friday night while the kids are getting ready for bed. Next thing we know, 12 year old son comes downstairs with this horrible (but hilarious) look on his face and says "Don't kill me." Now I knew he'd been in the bathroom getting ready for bed, and he was obviously whole and hardy, so I'm thinking he dropped something in the toilet.
No, no, no- He swallowed a metal ball about the size of a marble! The scarey part was th... Sun, 11 Sep 2011 23:19:48 EST Going for Another 5 lbs I still can't believe I met my first weight loss goal (ever)! The tools, information, and friends at SparkPeople truly were key to that success. I so appreciate every word of encouragement and cheer SparkFriends have passed along to me.

I did take the summer off from Spark. It was oppressively hot, and I had lots of things to get accomplished during the summer break. I was able to spend a lot of time with my boys at the water park and riding bikes. I finally started writing a... Sat, 10 Sep 2011 11:15:35 EST Losing the Ponytail Tomorrow Nothing heavy tonight, just something we women can relate to...
More years of my life than not, I've had hair long enough for a good ponytail. BUT every few years or so I get a hankering for something different. I don't mess with the color so I have to change the style.
Tomorrow's the day! The worst of summer is behind us so I figure it's safe to lose the ponytail and get a hairdo again.
Fingers crossed,
Roxanne Mon, 5 Sep 2011 21:09:15 EST Loved this Quote " I arise each morning torn between a desire to save the world and a desire to savor the world. This makes it hard to plan for the day."
E. B. White

I just thought that was too good not to share.

Have a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend!

~Roxanne Fri, 2 Sep 2011 17:52:10 EST Encouragement for Those Off Track My SparkFriends know that I've been missing in action the past couple of months and that I've been able to re-commit myself in the past week. I was feeling the time away.
Less energy, More aches and pains, Fluid retention- You know all those things that go hand in hand with not enough exercise, water, or veggies.
I've had to battle the past week to get back in the habit of exercising. I'd had a whole month OFF from that, but I'm making progress there. Yesterday, I gave mysel... Wed, 13 Jul 2011 12:38:12 EST Worked out today!! The first month of my SP "exile" I managed to workout about half of my normal schedule. The second month almost not at all. 46

BUT today, I got back to my normal workout, and it felt WONDERFUL!!!!
198

I've also decided that I must be diligent in tracking daily to get back on track.

keep Sparkin!
~Roxanne Thu, 7 Jul 2011 22:17:09 EST July Goals Crrrrrkkkk! Can you hear it? That's me trying to get back in the groove- my Sparkgroove that I was so good at for so long! May and June were total chaos and disruption. The house problems were NOT a bad memory by 4th of July, but almost. My house is 98% back on track so I have no excuse this month. I have to and I want to get back on track.

My goals: Exercise twice a day for 30 minute sessions- five times a week
8 glasses of water/day. The hectic days I've been livi... Wed, 6 Jul 2011 15:53:37 EST Sticking with my new habits- Most of the time The month of May has been a real test of my new healthier living habits- TO SAY THE LEAST!
With a week of turmoil and broken house, a week of vacation, then a week of contractors- I can say "I have changed my ways". I've not eaten as well as I was when I could track everything I ate on a daily basis, but I've not done too bad either. Mostly, I have made good choices at meal time. My workouts have been sporadic, but I have managed to do at least 3 sessions each week.
Considerin... Mon, 30 May 2011 11:21:34 EST Missing my SP Hello, Best SparkFriends ever! I have missed you all too. So many of you sent such encouragement and prayers my way. All I can say is "Thank you. I feel it to the bottom of my heart."
I thought I'd send a quick update since you've asked. We got home from vacation late yesterday. Bad weather had us stranded in Dallas. We finally rented a car and drove home. Vacation was wonderful!!! Northern California was beautiful. We were everywhere from Lake Tahoe to San Francisco to Pacific... Sun, 22 May 2011 14:04:42 EST Farewell - for a while SparkFriends, I have to say "Good-bye" for a little while for good reasons and bad. First the good, we're leaving for a week long vacation tomorrow(Lake Tahoe and San Francisco).
The bad news- our house is soon to be ripped apart-literally. We have discovered that the drain pipes within our concrete slab have deteriorated and have been leaking for who knows how long out into our foundation. The only way to fix this is to take a jackhammer to the floors and unbury the lines and replace... Thu, 12 May 2011 09:34:30 EST Happy Mother's Day! (for ALL women) Dear SparkFriends, I truly wish that I could visit everyone's page tonight and leave you a Mother's Day treat, but there just isn't enough time right now. 39 So I will say from the bottom of my heart- I pray that you will feel more loved than ever on your special day!!! Remember, most of what you do as a mother seems invisible and unnoticed, but it matters (my family has taken to calling me a fairy because things get done magically)
The things you do matters to people you ... Sat, 7 May 2011 22:00:44 EST Calorie Intake Update So last week I set a new workout schedule for myself and updated my fitness goals. Some of you read that SP raised my calorie intake. This past Saturday finished out a full week with the new workout plan and new calorie intake. I did lose 1 pound, but I never felt like I was burning it. I don't know how else to say it... When I'm eating right and working out, it's like my whole body is geared differently. I think differently, feel different, act different.
So anyway, the new workout... Mon, 2 May 2011 22:35:38 EST New Goals I've been studying my progress and re-assessing my goals this week. I've decided that I have to be more diligent about getting *5 a Day*! It just takes more planning. I can certainly do it!
Now that it's heating up around here- muggy, muggy, and muggy- I'm changing my cardio to two 30 minute sessions at least 5 days a week. That has worked out well this week.
I changed my fitness settings tonight, and SP raised my calorie intake by 300-500 each day. I'm real curious to see t... Sat, 23 Apr 2011 21:34:53 EST My face has lines again I don't think this is a great picture by any means. I snapped it myself yesterday, BUT I like it because I can really see my jawline. It had gotten pretty rounded the past few years. I knew my face was feeling thinner, but to see it is great- even for someone who doesn't like her picture.

Progress-Thank you, Lord!!! Wed, 20 Apr 2011 23:51:11 EST Today's run; Who needs an ipod? If you've been reading along this week, you'll know that I've been trying to shake up the exercise to keep things fresh. Today was super fun for me (as fun as running can be). I asked my husband to get on the bike and be my pacer as I ran. He's always at work when I run except the one race back in March where he was at the finish line. So I got his company, his antics, and my own personal soundtrack while he got to see me "working my butt off"- literally!!!
It was nice to have him ma... Sun, 17 Apr 2011 20:55:31 EST You can eat friend chicken and stay on track! Sorry, as I was commenting on one dear Friends page, I realized how good I have gotten at cooking "bad" and still keeping myself on track. Don't get on to me... I don't cook "bad" very often anymore.
BUT I have learned how to serve up fried chicken and all the fixins' without blowing my plan. Yes, I'll splurge and have a piece of fried chicken, but then I'll eat a salad and bread instead of heavier potatoes and gravy.
So apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks because if ... Sat, 16 Apr 2011 20:39:11 EST Hard Week, but Completed my Virtual 5K Oh, if you're having a hard time right now, take heart. We will survive TOGETHER!
My week started out great- awesome weather, FUN and big exercises, new SparkChallenges. Wednesday afternoon I took a dive. I've battled a UTI since then which put me in the bed last half of Wed.
Okay so last night, I'm feeling better not 100%, but on the mend. I knew I had to run my virtual 5K today or else miss the chance to meet that goal.
33 I didn't want to and almost talked... Fri, 15 Apr 2011 12:07:28 EST What I found outside this morning! I recently told a friend who needs positive things in her life that she needs to grow something. I don't care if it's one plant- something that you can watch over, take care of, enjoy it's beauty, and be amazed by nature. So this kind of does tie into SP and how we help each other.
As I checked in this morning, I mentioned that I'd be doing yardwork today and was waiting on irises and roses to open. Well, this is what I found when I went outside a few minutes later.
<img src="h... Wed, 13 Apr 2011 16:39:28 EST Today's fun exercise Today's "fun" exercise was a bike ride down by the river- 14.5 miles long. We weren't racing, but I felt good about our time (8.5 mph). I will say this biking the river trail is a ton more fun than running it, AND YET my thighs are TIRED!!! Plenty of nice hills to climb, lots of wind to cool, and Oh the sites to see!
332 332 332 332 332
I have a vintage Schwinn bike which I adore, BUT they don't make 'em like that any... Tue, 12 Apr 2011 15:55:49 EST Fun Exercise Today Actually, I've decided to shake it up as much as possible this week. The weather's great. The kids have a half week of school with achievement tests tomorrow. So today's exercise was a 3.5 mile hike around the base of Pinnacle Mtn attached to my 78 pound Australian Shepherd. Cowboy's only 1 year old, but he did great on the trail. I tried not to slow him down too much. Trust me keeping at the cowdog's pace was good cardio!!
When I loaded everyone up to head to the trail, I though... Mon, 11 Apr 2011 17:06:55 EST didn't trust the scale yesterday But it was right!
The scale said I was down 2 pounds yesterday morning, but I didn't trust it so I entered myself down 1 pound. By this morning, I couldn't resist getting back on the scale - TO BE SURE! 211
Turns out I really was down 2 pounds- which puts me at 15 down and almost there!
Now is that something only a woman would do, or what?!
247 to my SparkFriends. Have a great Friday!!!!
We're heading to the Scottish Festival tomorrow so I wil... Fri, 8 Apr 2011 12:01:40 EST
