CHALLENGER15's SparkPeople Blog CHALLENGER15's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community 2/16/2018: How I Am Seeing Progress I chose to write some 2018 goals near the first of this year using the Notes feature on my iphone. I chose things that were important to me. I can easily add the date that something is done. You will notice that some of the recordings have "&" in them - that has occurred when I had to catch up on a goal. Here are the January and February recordings I have done.

<img src="http://p... Fri, 16 Feb 2018 10:47:31 EST 10 Reasons WHY I Want to Lose Weight 1/06/2018 I get a weekly email from someone - I have forgotten her name now - who gives motivation for consciously eating more healthfully. At the start of 2018, she wrote about writing down the reasons WHY one wants to lose weight and to refer to the list when one feels discouraged to help keep on track.

Here is my list of 10 reasons:
1. Feel better!
I felt so much better when I was near my goal weight 2?3?5? years ago. I want to feel better like that again.

2. ... Sat, 6 Jan 2018 18:21:34 EST October 1, 2017 I had a doctor visit this past week, and I was all ready for "you need to get this weight back off" and INSTEAD, they were happy that I was down 13# from July when I visited another of my doctors. Put in those terms, I was pretty happy as well! I think I was actually down from what I weight last year when I was there, too, but not by much. It was the 13# from July they were really happy about.

Something else odd occurred. My LDL was 28. The target is pcp told ... Sun, 1 Oct 2017 10:21:23 EST How's My Challenge Going & What I Have Been Up To Recently My challenge with the RV Enthusiasts team is done tomorrow - wow! 6 weeks went quickly. I didn't weigh in last week - I forgot my scales at home when we were out of town - and got a "vacation" week. If I am less than I was two weeks ago, I will have lost every week, which is a good trend for me to have had going. It hasn't been a lot at times - except that first week, but that is common - but I shall definitely be glad to have lost all the weeks if that is indeed what happens.
<BR... Fri, 8 Sep 2017 16:26:46 EST 8/27/17 How's My Challenge Going? #2 I began a challenge with one of my first two Spark teams - RV Enthusiasts - six weeks ago. As of yesterday, I have lost just under 6#. An average of 1# per week seems to be a good fit for me. I'm not starving, I'm not exercising for hours on end, I'm eating things I want in moderation or making a suitable substitution.

When I began SP seven years ago, I wrote an evening snack into my plan in the evening. It was ALWAYS chocolate of some type - miniHersheys bars, mini choco... Sun, 27 Aug 2017 16:06:10 EST How's My Challenge Going? Back in July, I wrote about the new challenge I was on with members of the RV Enthusiasts and 50+ Females teams. I wrote about how I had been "off track" for WAYYYYYYY too long.

I am keeping a note to myself with my smartphone so that I can look at the weekly weigh-in more easily. My first WI was 7/15 and today, 8/12, I am 4.6# less, so that is about 5# in a month, and I like that. I haven't done a "perfect" job with either eating or with fitness, but I am making progres... Sat, 12 Aug 2017 07:41:34 EST What Happened? What's Going to Happen? I was very successful a few years ago when I began checking in with SP. I found some teams that "fit" me then [and "fit" me now] and over the course of two years I lost 90+ pounds. I made goal. I made a lower goal as set by my PCP.

And then the weight slowly began to come back on. All but a bit less than 30 found its way back.

How did this happen?
1. I quit tracking. I can occasionally skip days of tracking, but I can't lose months of it. <... Sat, 22 Jul 2017 17:04:19 EST 20# by midSeptember, Blog #4 Oh, my! Over a week since I blogged and kept my goal in front of me...

Actually, that is not completely true as I have kept my goal in front of me. I HAVE walked at least 15 minutes daily, early in the day so as to have it done. It sets the tone for my day. My schedule is off today, so I haven't done it yet today, and I am about to go through Walking Withdrawal. 246 However, I will do so before noon and then I am sure my day won't seem "off."

... Wed, 17 May 2017 09:18:33 EST 20# by midSeptember, Blog #3 I have lost 1.8# since I began this challenge to myself.

I am continuing with my 15 minutes of walking and have been able to do that in the mornings so far. I began that small challenge when Spark Guy issued his mini challenge over 20 days ago.

I joined the Fiber Challenge 5 days ago - WOW! Sometimes that is hard to get the minimum in - shows it is definitely something that I needed to work on.

Mon, 8 May 2017 10:17:19 EST 20# by MidSeptember, Day 2 I wanted a visual of my progress on my journey to lose 20# by midSeptember, so I got up and did this this morning.

I created a 2 rows by 10 columns table in WORD and I will "paint" the amount lost as I go through the next 4 1/2 months. I don't think I will update every week - maybe biweekly or monthly.

I had thought about the fact that a few years ago when I ... Tue, 2 May 2017 06:25:51 EST 20# by midSeptember??? Some years ago I was very successful with Sparkpeople. I lost approximately 90 pounds in about 18 months, but once there, I began to slowly put some of that back on. In fact, on a high weight day [salt is NOT my friend], I have put all but 30 of it back on, slowly but surely.

Now I need to take it off slowly but surely. I did it once, I can do it again.

I am a big believer in Mindful Moderation, so this will work for me here. I had some weeks where I ... Mon, 1 May 2017 13:31:36 EST 4/7/2017: Sharing a Milestone in Life Tomorrow my oldest will turn 30. I really hadn't thought about how it would affect me. I'm remembering things that I haven't thought about in years - I was already at the hospital 30 years ago and was in labor for 24+ hours. I won't go into all the "stuff", but it wasn't the most fun I ever had 211 , but the end result, a healthy, baby boy was worth it.

I didn't search out any baby pictures, although I had them out 4 years ago when DS got married. Instead, I... Fri, 7 Apr 2017 16:47:40 EST Mindful Moderation, 3/05/2017 Oh, my goodness 24 The past few days have not been so good for my mindful moderation. Here are my dot calendars - take a look at the end of February and the first of March.

Those Valentine chocolates? I did great at my "eat two a day" until just recently...I shoul... Sun, 5 Mar 2017 11:41:50 EST Mindful Moderation, 2/25/2017 Here's my dot calendar:

I haven't lost any more weight, but I do know that sometimes I won't lose for a while and then it will be a very nice loss. I have been "mindfully moderate" most of the time, including with my Valentine's Day chocolates. It's going on two weeks and I still have part of the first box. 2 every evening is what I am allowing myself for a treat and I haven't ... Sat, 25 Feb 2017 07:50:22 EST Mindful Moderation, Early for 2/18/2017 I have only had green dots on my dot calendar since the weekend. It feels good to make choices that help my body feel better.

It's also interesting to follow the season of seasonal freggies. I enjoyed a delicious serving of baked spaghetti squash over the weekend that was scrumptious and something I might consider preparing at home. I bought a few pears yesterday when I was out shopping - delicious as well! The oranges look really good right now, and I am enjoying cabba... Fri, 17 Feb 2017 07:10:17 EST Mindful Moderation, Late for 2/11/2017 I'm later than I intended for my blog update on my year of Mindful Moderation. I intend to do them over the weekends, but this past weekend didn't allow. Perhaps two days later is still moderation.

My last official weigh-in showed a loss of just over 7 pounds since 1/1/2017.

I had my first "red dot" day of 2017 over the weekend. It occurred on Saturday. I don't regret it. I just need to take care not to have them very often. 6 weeks in to the new year... Tue, 14 Feb 2017 07:07:11 EST Mindful Moderation, 2/4/2017 It's been five weeks and I have lost just over 6#! Success! I knew I was feeling better, and my jeans weren't quite so tight to zip and those 6# are the low-cal icing on the cake! LOL!

I wrote a blog earlier in the year explaining my Dot Calendar - mine ended up being a Star Calendar since I couldn't easily find dots - here is my Dot/Star Calendar for the month of January:

<img src=""... Sat, 4 Feb 2017 16:32:45 EST Mindful Moderation, 1/29/2017 I am still pleased with my efforts toward being mindfully moderate.

I am still down just over 5#. My WI yesterday was up a bit, but it was back down today, and it had been even a bit lower earlier in the week. Slow progress is still progress, eh?

I am continuing with my 30 minutes of fitness daily - when I didn't quite make it one day last week, I just reminded myself that I had almost an hour some other days. That, too, is moderation. I am still enjoyi... Sun, 29 Jan 2017 16:29:18 EST Mindful Moderation after Week 2 This is the end of week 2 with my Mindful Moderation theme.

I am down just over 5#. I am happy with that. This is over a 3 week period, and of course, I showed a bigger loss at the beginning than yesterday, but 5# over three weeks is just very encouraging for me.

I continue to try for 30 minutes of active fitness each day and that is working well for me. I did have a couple of 10K buzz days per my fitbit, and that is nice to see that happening again as... Sun, 22 Jan 2017 07:04:25 EST Mindful Moderation after Week 1 My mindful moderation is working well for me. I have been surprised with a 10K buzz on the fitbit a couple of days this week. I am not setting the 10K as a "gotta have" goal because I cannot depend on my health concerns cooperating, but what I am doing is trying to get a total of 30 minutes most days - in two or three little housewalking sessions if I have to - and it seems to be working well for me. I am also intentionally trying to get some "dancing" in with a GOYBAD each day, maybe goin... Fri, 13 Jan 2017 07:10:56 EST Mindful Moderation As I reflect on my health journey since I found Sparkpeople, I find that that there have been times that I became what was probably too harsh in my thinking. For example, when I found I really COULD walk 10K per day, I had to do it every day. When a couple of health issues affected the walking, I got really off track, even though my leaving the track was affected by some other things as well. Such thinking was not at all good for my health journey.

I have begun to walk -... Fri, 6 Jan 2017 16:40:28 EST New Year, New Start I would have to say that I did not finish 2016 in a good, healthy way. From midsummer on, I struggled as many small changes occurred in my life. My healthy choices did not follow along with the life changes. My clothing got tighter, my feet/legs hurt more and more, and my blood pressure was climbing up, up, up.

However, as 2017 was about to begin, I began to take charge of my own little health world again.

I imagine that I was drinking 8+ glasses of wa... Sun, 1 Jan 2017 09:03:01 EST What Happened? I've been on a rollercoaster - a slow rollercoaster, but a rollercoaster, nevertheless, ever since I hit goal weight 3?4? years ago.

That slow yet steady progress back up the scale has caused a regain of 30#. I changed my sparkname a couple of years ago to reflect that I had regained 15#, but I don't think I need to rename myself to reflect the additional 15. I think I need to take to heart this Spark article that I read this morning.

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 08:37:49 EST Adjusting My Plan I keep going back and forth with the same 8 - 10 pounds...lose them, sometimes as much as 3# at a time, and then relax, not walk as much, not eat as well, and they go back on. I need to lose more than that, but this is where I have been for the past few months.

I get lots of good encouragement here. I have Sparkfriends who encourage me via posts and goodies, and I am on teams that have challenges, and I am even a leader on one challenge.

I know I don't ... Wed, 6 Apr 2016 11:22:24 EST BLC Week 9 WEC My Three Top Motivations for Losing Weight One of our BINGO goals was to record our three top motivations for losing weight and I have chosen to do it by also putting it out into "Sparkland."

I spent most of my adult life being morbidly obese. 5+ years ago, I realized I was going to need to do something about it if I was going to have the active post-retirement life that I wished. I realized that I needed this to fit into my post-retirement lifestyle which includes traveling sometimes. I checked out Sparkpeople whe... Fri, 18 Mar 2016 07:19:05 EST 2/20/16 and still no blog about yearly goals I thought about doing my usual yearly goals blog back in late November - and then in December - and then in January - and you can see what the date is today in my title.

I'm still not really sure why I didn't, just as I'm not sure why I don't blog as I once did.

I think it is likely because we all change over time. My time here is now 5+ years...I have accomplished a lot - at one time, it was 90+ pounds. Some of those found their way back...but I have accepted that I... Sat, 20 Feb 2016 10:16:04 EST How Are My 2015 Goals Going? It is past time for me to review this. Mon, 23 Nov 2015 06:10:58 EST I'm Worth It It is somewhat interesting to me that for someone who had to repeatedly tell herself "I'm doing this for me" with every step I took five years ago, that I DO know that I am worth it these days and don't have to repeatedly tell myself that I am.

It took me two years to lose my 90 pounds. I gained about 20 pounds back and am in the process of losing it again. I'm worth it.

I have some Spark teams with which I participate regularly - a regional local team, an RV group, ... Wed, 7 Oct 2015 13:39:00 EST My Summer is about Done [Disclaimer: This is not a feel-good blog, and I won't be offended at all if you choose not to read it or comment on it. It's just a down blog in what has been a mostly down summer and I know I sometimes cannot read such things...I totally understand.]

On Saturday 8/8, I will be attending a mandatory meeting for my next academic year of my part-time, post-retirement job. This is totally a $$$-related blog, and yet the attention to details could apply anywhere.

Over the past year or so, I have begun to use free apps on my smartphone to save money. The apps that I use are

1) Walgreens' Balance Rewards - 20 points/weigh in, 20 points/mile [with a monthly max], 20 points per blood pressure reading, etc...these are the ones that work for me, but there are others...the points are then transferred to Balance Reward dollars that you can spend ... Wed, 8 Jul 2015 11:54:34 EST Summer Goals In a few hours, I will have finished with my Spring 2015 semester of teaching, and will have a break until August. As I wait for my last class to begin their final exam, I was thinking about summer goals and thus this blog.

1. I wish to continue with my fitbit goal of 70K+ steps per week. Wed, 13 May 2015 10:05:01 EST 2015 Goal Update A Sparkfriend suggested that I do a blog to help with my doldrums where fitness/health are concerned. It had been a longer time than usual since I had blogged, so here goes. I had been in the habit of regularly checking on how my annual goals were doing, and I haven't done that, so that is what this blog shall address.

****************************************
************************************

FITNESS/HEALTH GOALS

1. Thu, 9 Apr 2015 07:12:10 EST Need Some Ideas for Keeping Winter Doldrums at Bay Oh, my gosh.......I am so over winter already, and we really just began to have it here in SW Missouri. Most of our school districts had not missed any days for bad roads/weather until this week, and most of them have been out for what is now the fourth day.

The cold with winter seems to bother me more than it did at a younger age, so I try to make what I am doing as enjoyable as I can. I am going to share what I have done the past couple of years, and I am always welcome... Thu, 19 Feb 2015 16:06:48 EST Do Small Steps Really Lead to Big Success? Yesterday, I had gone into a business, paid for my purchase, and dropped my change into my coat pocket. It was cold, so I walked with my gloved hands in my pockets, got into my car, sat down, and then took my hands out of my pockets. I heard a coin hit the plastic in the floorboard, reached over for the quarter that I thought it was - the carts at the business require a quarter to be inserted and then it is returned when the cart is replaced properly-and discovered it was only a penny. <B... Wed, 14 Jan 2015 18:42:58 EST 2015 Goals I was quite pleased with my progress in 2014 - I mostly maintained my fitness/weight, I paid off a credit card, and I completed some crafting projects.

In thinking of what my overall goals are for the coming year, I am going to concentrate on getting closer to financial freedom, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and continuing to craft with the idea of giving back in some manner.

With these overall goals in mind, my 2015 goals are

FITNESS/HEALTH... Tue, 30 Dec 2014 09:09:29 EST Just Met One of My 2014 Goals Today One of my goals for 2014 was to pay off one of my credit cards and I did that TODAY as I made the last payment on one of them. That felt so very good! Now doing the same with the remaining card will be my financial goal for 2015.

I still have 10 days to work on the remaining 2014 goals.... Sat, 20 Dec 2014 17:15:44 EST December 1, 2014 and 2014 Goals Progress Where has this year gone? 24

So with 30 days to go after today is done, what is my progress on my 2014 goals?

1. I will return to the 150s.

At my high for the year, I was at 179. I have been consistently at 170 or below - no lower than 166 yet, but I can see that slow progress is being made. I am tracking. I am watching my fitbit minutes - my goal is 10,000 per day - but I need to rethink doing "other" things to do as well. I strongly... Mon, 1 Dec 2014 11:41:12 EST October 15, 2014 Hi, Sparkfriends!

I just looked at my last blog - on Labor Day - and so much has happened since then.

My SIL who was so seriously injured in the accident [in which his dad died as a result of injuries] has continued to improve. It will still be a long time, but he is better.

My brother was released from the hospital after the most recent heart attack and went to a skilled nursing facility in early September; I was there again just yesterday a... Wed, 15 Oct 2014 13:33:54 EST September 1, 2014 It would be neat to go back and see where I was at on previous Labor Day weekends, but I felt the need to concentrate instead on where I am at in relationship to my 2014 goals.

I have had the most unbelievable August - it was one that tested what I am made of, my beliefs, and my Spark systems in place. The latest incident, with which my birth family is still dealing, involved my brother having a heart attack 3 hours from his home. With a history of heart problems, it was not u... Mon, 1 Sep 2014 13:12:55 EST Uber-politeness Needs to Go I have almost decided that I am much too polite. I have struggled with the fact that this may not be a problem, but I am open to the suggestion that perhaps it is.

In struggling with this personality dilemma, I don't know that is is important why I am this way, other than to perhaps discover a way to deal with things that bother me. The reason for this blog is to gather ways to deal with one thing that bothers me greatly.

Do others have family members who... Mon, 21 Jul 2014 11:44:04 EST The Year is Now Half Over - How Am I Doing on My 2014 Goals? Here are my 2014 goals and my progress to date:

1. I will return to the 150s. I am not sure 150 is the best for me; 155 may be more do-able. I have recently discovered that I enjoy yoga stretching and stretching in general. I also continue walking and resistance band workouts. I will do the resistance bands workouts twice per week.

***I have not got to the 150s yet. In fact, I went the other direction, with several take-home meals in a row. The scales are coming back... Thu, 3 Jul 2014 07:24:17 EST Challenges - Have They Been a Good Thing for Me? As a member of a challenge that has been held on the RV Enthusiasts team, I was asked to write a blog about my thoughts concerning challenges.

I have been a Sparkmember almost 4 years. I joined the RV Enthusiasts team fairly early on, and it was their challenges that I began with. The team approaches challenges as they do RVing - with gusto! I really think that the challenges through this team were the primary motivation for my weight loss, almost 90 pounds. When I would get la... Sat, 31 May 2014 17:36:41 EST Benefits of Gardening I have been enjoying my garden this year. Our garden is primarily my effort this year. DH got the raised beds ready two years ago and we had some success last year, but this year I did a bigger effort.

Already the time spent has been so beneficial to me.

First, there is the fitness time, and the outdoors time. There is the pleasure of seeing seeds sprout and grow into mature plants. There is the watching of plants that I ordered last winter during a snowstorm gro... Mon, 5 May 2014 15:56:50 EST "Follow-through was not his forte" I picked up a paperback at our supermarket that caught my eye, since DH and I have just discovered and enjoyed all four seasons of Downton Abbey this past winter. The title of the book is "While We Were Watching Downton Abbey", by Wendy Wax. It is basically about female friendship and is enjoyable, light reading.

I wasn't too far into the book, when the author characterized the brother of one of the females with the statement "Follow-through was not his forte."

Oh.... Wed, 9 Apr 2014 16:21:37 EST Wandering Thoughts I think I'm just winter-weary, but I am also assessing my fitness/nutrition/Sparking program.

My primary care physician told me last week that anyone who had lost weight during this winter-that-seems-to-never-end is doing VERY well. Of course, I liked that, because I showed a 4# loss since I had seen her back in January. 211

I am trying to find a happy place for the time that I spend Sparking, and I am not sure just how that needs to be done.... Wed, 26 Mar 2014 10:43:12 EST A Reward! My Emerald Ring! I am pretty good at setting goals and rewards for myself. I am immensely better at achieving my goals than I am at rewarding myself when the goal is achieved.

One of my very first rewards that I listed - and I will be at 4 years in Sparkpeople time come this August - was an emerald ring. It didn't need to be fancy, but I have always wanted one.

I don't remember if this was a reward for a particular challenge, or if it was a reward that I thought up on my own when I... Wed, 19 Mar 2014 12:48:27 EST A Slight but Significant Change I changed my Spark identity just a bit.

I chose my Sparkname over three years ago; so that I could remember it, I chose Challenger [the model of our motorhome] 75 [the amount of weight that I thought I needed to lose].

I have changed in a lot of ways; I got to my goal weight back in the fall of 2012, and have gone back and forth 15-20 pounds since.

I don't feel so bad about those 15-20 pounds, though. I've learned a lot about myself in the ensui... Tue, 4 Mar 2014 18:25:46 EST 2 Months into 2014 - How Am I Doing With My Goals?
