CGH-ARTYPANTS's SparkPeople Blog CGH-ARTYPANTS's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community What Can Happen in 100 days? I have had weight loss success and weight loss failure. After joining Spark People in December of 2012, I lost a lot of weight. I gained most of it back. I lost weight again, and gained most of it back. When I finally woke up (again) 100 days ago and realized I must do something about my health and weight. I had to have a meniscus tear repaired in my knee. My 65th birthday was looming large. Did I really want my retirement years being so limited because of my health? NO! I reconnected with t... Tue, 13 Feb 2018 12:52:37 EST How many times can you start over??? As many as necessary.
I have been at this on and off here on SparkPeople since December 2012. My highest weight when I started was 230. I have made it down to 178, lost focus, went to 208, got back on track and went down to 184...lost focus again.
I woke up 24 days ago at 221.
Thanks to my class buddy MawMaw,...who has been an encourager all the way, I was led to the book "100 days of weight loss" by Linda Spangle. It is not a diet plan. It is a book of 100 days of journaling... Wed, 29 Nov 2017 15:55:27 EST Ok, Here we go again I have a new plan. Better than no plan at all. Better than giving up.
I was introduced to a diet plan called "Beyond Diet" that my brother got in shape with. It does not count calories. It counts proteins, carbs and fats. I took their metabolism test and it was not a surprise that I have a protein metabolism. You can be a protein, carb, or combo person.
It makes sense now. I could eat a healthy breakfast sandwich and be so hungry by 9:30 because the carb content was too high. I wa... Tue, 23 Jun 2015 20:18:56 EST To Focus or Not Focus...that is the question And the answer is...not focusing makes you get off course. You trip up, you fall...but you know what? You can get back up again!
I started SparkPeople in December 2012. My highest weight had been 234. At the time I signed up I weighed 228. I had been told that my blood pressure was starting to stay elevated. I had minor knee surgery. I had no stamina. I had visions of my father, who towards the end of his life suffered from high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and borderline di... Fri, 18 Jul 2014 08:08:55 EST My 2014 plan I am at my one-year anniversary with SparkPeople. I lost 50 pounds, but gained about 5 back while not paying attention, and giving into temptation over the holidays. Isn't it about paying attention? But I am so happy about the 45 pounds I have lost and how much better I look and feel. I am NOT going back to where I was.
My goal is to lose 5 pounds a month.
So here is my mini-goal calendar:
Current weight: 184
By January 31: 179
By February 28: 174
By March 31: 16... Thu, 26 Dec 2013 09:42:37 EST Weekly weigh-ins - part 2 So, for the first 7 months of this year I have gone from 228-182. I have gone from wearing size 22 to wearing size 16. Now onward to the last stretch.

August 3 - 181
10 - 181
17 - 181
24 - 182.
I have been on the same 5-pound weight range (178-183) for the summer and all this month. The longest plateau I have ever experienced. Need to adjust my plan. Gotta bust this thing!
31 - 182. Let me revamp my ... Mon, 12 Aug 2013 11:56:54 EST The changes 46 pounds make I have more energy and mobility. I can kneel and get up easier. I can do exercises and activities I would have found difficult or impossible to do before.
My knees and feet don't hurt.
I can keep up with my grandchildren and play with them more.
And I love the fact that I can bypass the Women's section and shop in the Misses department. It is easier to find clothes.
I am wearing shorts and a bathing suit again.
My blood pressure is back to normal.

I still ... Tue, 6 Aug 2013 16:38:07 EST Letter to Self I have been hard on myself for so long. I have been my own worst enemy. I have lived with chains of self-doubt, poor self image, and bad habits. I hid it so well. On the outside I appeared to be so "together," talented, and strong. Yes, I let my weight get out of hand, but I had everything else it seemed.
Thank you, God, for making me look at the hard truth. Thank you for making me face the demons of my past and giving me a health scare that made me evaluate where I am.... Wed, 3 Jul 2013 16:49:59 EST Sadness and Motivation I am sad to report that my two year old grandson drowned in the family pool on Saturday, June 1. The family is devastated, to say the least. The funeral is Wednesday. He leaves four older brothers and a sister behind. We are all people of deep faith and know that God will bring us through this tragedy. The community support we are getting is tremendous. This will not derail my determination to become a healthier person, but I will not be as focused this week, as you can probably understand. ... Tue, 4 Jun 2013 13:13:46 EST Accomplishments Today's challenge is to write down three accomplishments I am proud of - to dwell on the positive. There are quite a few things I am proud of that I have accomplished in my life in general: educational goals, wonderful children. I will list more recent things:
1 - I have consistently stayed with my healthy lifestyle for over four months
2 - I have lost 36 pounds
3 - I am starting to get my home filing and bookkeeping in order. I am working towards "decluttering" my life.
... Mon, 13 May 2013 07:04:20 EST Staying on Track 5-2-13: I have finished the SparkCoach sessions on Healthy living and plateau busting. Now I am on the "Consistency and Motivation" track, which I will be on for the rest of my journey. I have daily challenges. The first was to work in extra moving through the day. I danced to music as I was getting ready for work, took things to coworkers instead of emailing or sending someone else, and I did tummy contractions as I drove. The second challenge is something I already do - plan my meals ahead.... Thu, 2 May 2013 06:49:36 EST My Weekly Weigh-Ins I confess...I weigh every day, even though SparkPeople does not recommend it. I post my weight every time there is a decrease...not on consistent days.
My SparkCoach assignment today is to create a weekly weight report blog. What they recommend: weigh on the same day each week, same scale, same time, same clothing. I do all of that except for the once a week thing. So...for the sake of this report, I went to reports and wrote down my Saturday weight. That will be my weigh day for this ch... Sat, 13 Apr 2013 08:55:13 EST Plateau Busting I finished my 90 day Spark Coach series on healthy lifestyle. Now I am going to go through the 28-day Plateau Busting sessions.
I have had a couple of times when my weight would not budge for a week. None of my plateaus have been long. I know to expect them. I want to learn how to keep them short-lived.
In this blog, I will share what I learn. Maybe it will help others.

4-3-13: What I learned today: Plateaus can be expected. They can sometimes last for a month or more. ... Tue, 2 Apr 2013 08:52:10 EST My Story I am one of 10 children....#8 in line and youngest girl. When young, I was always slender. When I graduated from college, I was 115 pounds. Marriage, working, raising two beautiful daughters...I forgot self. Little by little my weight increased. Off and on I would lose a little weight, but I was never consistent with a weight loss plan. It seems like every time a decade came around 30, 40, 50...I would think "I must get in shape." When my daughters married, I hated that I was as big as I was ... Wed, 27 Mar 2013 06:17:16 EST In Ten Years SparkCoach instructed us to look at ourselves 10 years from now and have that person talk to our present selves. Interesting exercise.
Me in 10 years: I will be 70 and retired. I think I will still be living where I am. I believe that I will be active and involved in my community and church. I might be giving private art lessons and doing volunteer work. I would also be going to classes for various interests. I want to be a life-long learner.
I would tell my current self "thank you.... Sun, 10 Mar 2013 07:29:44 EST 12-steps Someone posted this on Facebook - taking the twelve steps of overcoming alcohol or drug addiction and putting them in the framework of overcoming food addiction.

1 - Admit you are powerless over food - that your life has become unmanageable.
2 - Believe that a power greater than yourself can restore you to sanity.
3 - Decide to turn your will and life over to the care of God as you understand Him.
4 - Make a searching and fearless moral inventory of yourself.
5... Fri, 22 Feb 2013 05:28:07 EST Favorite Quotes A SETBACK is when you slip up, get busy, or become distracted from your goals. A FAILURE is when you decide your health isn't worth the effort.

ACTION is worry's worst enemy.

Direction, not intention, determines the destination.

Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the FEARFUL it is threatening because it means that things may get worse; To the HOPEFUL it is encouraging because things may get better; To the CONFIDENT it is inspi... Fri, 15 Feb 2013 06:30:12 EST My Challenges I had my first week of not losing any weight, even when sticking to the program. I am hovering. It amazes me that it is just now that the SparkCoach message is "expect this." How timely. I am not giving up and I am moving forward.

With that said, I had my first "I blew it day" yesterday. Could it be my last? lolol (probably not). I was in charge of Youth Day at church. It started at 9 a.m. with breakfast with the kids. The morning was filled with activites ...and food, of course... Sun, 10 Feb 2013 07:42:24 EST My FUN goals: I was assigned to list some fitness goals that would be fun. I am hard pressed to think of something I would like to accomplish beyond losing weight and general health.
I am being successful with:
Drinking enough Water
Exercise 10 minutes a day
Staying within calorie range.
Burning the calories given. I have increased the number once.
I am now doing a sleep journal to see what changes I need to make to sleep better.
I have set some monthly mini-goals for wei... Fri, 8 Feb 2013 06:05:01 EST Stage 3 - My True Motivation Why do I want to lose weight?
I don't want health issues that come with age and excess weight: high blood pressure, diabetes, limited mobility. I want to be able to stay active. The memory of my father, who suffered from these, makes me not want to go there. I had to have knee surgery this past year. My blood pressure was always reading high. I saw myself heading down a path I didn't want to take. I want to emulate my mother, who was very active and full of life to her dieing day.
... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 05:36:29 EST My Bucket List Things I would like to do one day:
Ride in a Hot Air Balloon
Attend an educator summer seminar at SCAD
A week at a craft school in North Carolina or Tennessee
Have a vacation on a house boat Sat, 26 Jan 2013 20:47:48 EST Exercising I am creating groupings of exercises to do using the workout builder. I have a morning routine I plan to do each morning. I tried a video yesterday. Great resource. And even if I get so busy, I can do 10 minutes of something and feel like I was successful.

Feb. 27, 2013

I am consistently going through a sparkcoach session every morning and choosing one of the 10-12 minute videos on the website to do before I start getting ready for work.
I received my SparkPeople ... Tue, 22 Jan 2013 06:24:29 EST Improvements I have been battling a form of excema for almost two years. I was constantly dealing with dry, flakey skin and painful skin splits. Since I have started drinking so much water, I have seen remarkable improvement in my hands. I am very excited. No bandaids!!!

January 29, 2013: I am 9 pounds lighter. I have consistenly been drinking my water and staying within my calorie range. I have done SOMETHING for at least 10 minutes a day. I am feeling empowered. Sun, 20 Jan 2013 20:44:46 EST What's Working For Me I eat too many eggs, but cereal just doesn't seem to last me when I choose it for breakfast. i want to be careful about my cholesterol levels.
Today I found a trick. I added a tablespoon of Flax Seed to my cereal. I didn't get hungry mid morning. I will try this again and see if it is a fluke or an actual diet trick. Mon, 14 Jan 2013 12:57:38 EST
