Sun, 14 Nov 2010 07:09:23 EST Spark meet 2010 Meanwhile back in Coomb Abbey park Sparkpeople appeared from all over the country, there may have been just 14 of us (+3 dogs so thats 17) but we had a great day out.

We put faces to names and chatted, we laughed and jocked, pulled each others legs a little and put the world to rights.

Everyone seemed to enjoy their own picnic lunches, all... Sun, 25 Jul 2010 03:57:39 EST Thursday 11th March Great session at the gym again.

Bettered a lot of personal bests and then swam 32 lengths

I think I may get used to this fitness stuff it's turning out to be quite good fun. Thu, 11 Mar 2010 07:54:44 EST Tuesday March 9th Quite stiff muscles today so giving the gym a rest for one day

Back with a vengence tomorrow for a full gym and swim session.

More news to follow. Tue, 9 Mar 2010 17:47:11 EST Monday 8th March I am in the process of using up the last of my holiday entitlement for the year so am having a couple of odd days off, today is one of those days. So We (that's DW and myself) had a little lie in this morning and then a relaxing morning just sorting stuff out on Spark people and messing about on the internet generally.

Fitted in a trip to the gym around lunchtime and had a great session. Pushed some personal targets a little, I now have 2000 metres rowing down below 10 mins which I... Mon, 8 Mar 2010 09:39:20 EST Thursday 4th Major exercise session yesterday. 12km on the bike 2km rowing, 30 reps on every strength exercise and then 24 lengths in the pool (DW did 36 I think)

This exercise thing is getting out of hand because instead of not being able to move this morning and thinking 'never again' the first thing that crossed my mind was 'hmm, I hope to get off work on time so that I can go to the gym again tonight'

I am just listening to some Bryan Adams and he sings:

"It's not ho... Thu, 4 Mar 2010 02:47:17 EST Monday 2nd March Sunday lunch was great. It was good to see all of you guys and everyone was looking good. Inspired again and now motivated to make a difference I was back in the gym yesterday doing even more than before.

OK the plan is to have a day off today and then meet up with my DW and her work mates on Wednesday evening (maybe just a few sit-ups when I get home)

Tue, 2 Mar 2010 08:16:03 EST Saturday 27th Great way to start the day. Been to the gym and pushed hard through my newly drawn up fitness plan.

8km on the regular bike and then another 2 on the Trixter (which sort of simulates off road, up and down hill and stuff) thats over 5 miles even I am impressed.
30 reps on all of the strength training equipment
2km rowing
A few free weight exercises

And now I feel thouroughly worn out but energised for the rest of the day

Can't wait for tomorrow... Sat, 27 Feb 2010 05:40:40 EST Wednesday 24th (the gym again) Am I starting to sound boring? All I seem to do is go to the gym these days.

Decided to go for it tonite as the weather was OK and I fancied starting my new fitness programme (as drawn up last night by the man that knows)

HARD session is the only way to put it but that is the idea, need to push myself a little bit every time.

Unfortunately the heavens opened before I started to walk home again so by the time I arrived at my front door I was completely soaked. ... Wed, 24 Feb 2010 15:07:52 EST Tuesday 23rd Another good session at the gym last night, it was very crowded but I managed to push myself through the usual run of exercises.

Today I am getting there a little earlier so that I can sit down with one of the 'trained experts' and put together a training plan to give me something to aim for. Tue, 23 Feb 2010 07:45:10 EST Starting week 2 So here I am at the start of my second week. Went along yesterday and did 20 lengths in the pool (along with my DW)

Now I have the intention of doing the same again this week

I will keep you all in the picture as the week unfolds
Mon, 22 Feb 2010 07:53:43 EST Day 5 Now this is getting weird,

It's Saturday and when I finally raise my head from the pillow and emerge from the heavy comfy blanket of sleep what is the first thing I think of?

A nice hot cup of coffe to wake me up? NO

A full English fried breakfast? NO

Roll over, pull the quilt up higher and drift back to sleep? NO

My first thought? If I get up now I can gather my gear together and fit in a session at the gym which should start the day... Sat, 20 Feb 2010 05:27:39 EST Day 4 A rest day on Day 3 with the intention of day 4 being a gym day.

The snow came down quite heavily so walking home from work was a feat of endurance but (and I amazed myself more than anyone) I still made it to the gym. Improving a little already

6 km cycling
2 km rowing
20 reps on all the strength equipment

Felt excellent when I finished. Looking good for Friday night off and then another session over the weekend, that will make 4 sessions in the wee... Fri, 19 Feb 2010 04:09:56 EST Day 3 of the new regime So it was another successful trip to the gym yesterday. The walk there and back is already getting easier but I have been walking to work everyday for a few years now so I'm kinda used to it, plus it wasn't raining !

5km Cycling (took longer than yesterday but I got there)
1500 metres rowing
20 Reps on all the strength training equipment

So today, as I have a late meeting, is a rest day. I may still get out for the walk but no gym today. The ain was to go 3 or ... Wed, 17 Feb 2010 05:50:48 EST Day 2 (well its really news from day 1) So I walked home from work, in the rain and went to gather a bag together for my first trip to the gym in ages. It's still raining and miserable and wet and it would be quite easy to say "maybe tomorrow"

But NO, I went for it anyway (not just because I am paying good money for my membership either)

20 minutes walk up to the gym,
5km on the static bike,
1.2 km rowing
20 reps on all the strength training equipment
25 minute walk home again.

(... Tue, 16 Feb 2010 03:04:11 EST New Regime (Day1) OK, so here's the thing.

Yesterday saw DW, Brandi1809, and I at the local leisure centre signing up for a gold membership so that we can have unlimited use of all the facilities provided by the local authority across the whole borough. Not a bad deal at all but it is mainly so that we can use the centre itself.

So my plan is, starting today, I will walk to the centre (about 20 minutes away) after work and spend some time in the gym, I have to work out a fitness plan with... Mon, 15 Feb 2010 04:55:40 EST Christmas Story I know this is a variation on a much used story but it was told to me as true and I think it just says Christmas.

*Postage Paid*

George worked for the local Post Office and part of his job was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses.

One day just before Christmas, a letter landed on his desk simply addressed in shaky handwriting: 'To God'.

With no other clue on the envelop, George opened the letter and read:

Dear God, <B... Sat, 19 Dec 2009 20:08:20 EST Doing my bit So today my team from work got together and went off to decorate a community centre in Dudley.

Thought it may be a bit of a chore, You know all of that Team Building stuff and lots of egos all getting together but, actually, it was a damn good day. We all got on famously (well almost all) and we got the job done.

Main Hall, 1 meeting room and the entrance hallway all glossed and emulsioned to the colour scheme and wishes of the community centre manager, everyone had a go... Wed, 4 Nov 2009 15:12:41 EST Mission Completed So with a second coat of the right colour all that was left was to put all the fixtures and fittings back on the walls, a quick wipe over to make everything sparkle (all sparkly after Jude finished polishing anyway) and now the bathroom looks bright and fresh.

A pat on the back for all concerned for another job well done.

What can we paint next? Tue, 20 Oct 2009 01:52:50 EST And so to the bathroom I have just spent the whole weekend in the bathroom, kneeling next to the toilet and all the other images that go with it. Not to be worried though. My DW and I decided that the bathroom was a little dark and needed a little lift so out came the paint.

1st job, take all the fittings down and paint out all the walls with a plain white emulsion to cover up the dark colour, Then get the white gloss out and do the skirting and the door plus a few other odd bits of woodwork.

... Sun, 18 Oct 2009 12:08:32 EST Spot the leader So there I was in Telford and....

what a group. from right to left, my DW Brandi1809(Midlands Team Leader) then it is Tuppence03 and myself (UK Team Leaders) then SlimJim2009 and finally Wahzoe (Jessuk had to run for her train but she was with us in spirit)

Hear is looking forward to the next meet. Sun, 27 Sep 2009 17:33:25 EST September 18th Off we went, my wife of 16 years to the day, Judy and I on a boat across the channel to French France. A nice little trip, relaxing boat ride, a little shopping (well OK a lot of booze in the back of the car) a very nice lunch in a little French cafe and then a boat ride home.

What a nice view to welcome us home, didn't see any Bluebirds over....., and a very nice day was had by us both.

Can't wait until we h... Sat, 19 Sep 2009 10:20:01 EST Party in the Park 2009 Well after all the weeks & months of planning & preparations, the day finally arrived. Pete & Jude looked out of the window & the sun was shining WooHoo! We packed the car up, put on our Sparkpeople T-shirts (which had only arrived via Pete's uncle in Canada on Tuesday), went to the shop & picked up the balloons & then set off to Coombe Abbey.
We managed to find a great spot near the trees & near enough to the Information/Toilet/café block in case it rained, so we put up the gazebo, tie... Sun, 26 Jul 2009 04:31:13 EST Thurday 11th Well he came back.

The man doing the patio finally returned to finish off the job. Its all nice and clean now and he just has to pop back on Friday to pull up the last of the weeds and brush some sand back in.

It was well worth it because it now looks fantastic and I didn't have to break my back doing it! Thu, 11 Jun 2009 06:35:00 EST June 7th Rain again, how dull, stuck inside with loads to do out in the garden if it would just stop raining. At least there is a Grand Prix on this afternoon so there will be something to do while the rain pours down outside.

The top gutter on the house is obviously blocked because the water is streaming over the end and drumming on the study roof right above my head. If the rain gives up for a few minutes later I will have to get the ladder out and go up to unblock it.

Hope for... Sun, 7 Jun 2009 06:28:35 EST June 5th So the weather is going to get worse and worse over the weekend. Looks like I had better try and get the lawn mowed today, after work. The man has finished enough patio to get the furniture off the grass now so I may give it a go when I get home. Wish me luck! Fri, 5 Jun 2009 08:00:05 EST Thursday 4th Well, the fella didn't finish cleaning the patio yesterday and he is having to come back in next week to complete the job. It does look very very nice now though, all clean and shining bright in the sun shine. Thu, 4 Jun 2009 07:17:44 EST Wednesday 3rd Well, the nice man who came to clean the patio said he would knock the job off in about 4 hours. He worked from 10a.m until about 8 p.m yesterday and he is coming back this morning to carry on , he said it may even stretch to a third day. I guess he should have been a little more accurate with his quote. He didn't even want to come and see the job, just asked me how big the area was so I took a guess and was nowhere near 'apparently'

Still, he is doing a grand job it is all looking... Wed, 3 Jun 2009 03:55:36 EST 2nd June Another sunny day and I am stuck at work. Never mind, the man is coming round today to scrub the patio clean and I get to go for a walk in the sunshine later to open up and let him in. Sunny day walk, warmth on the skin and a little extra exercise all in one go. What could be better?
