CATHYGETSFIT's SparkPeople Blog CATHYGETSFIT's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Funny Thanksgiving memory This week for the A&I team we were to come up with a funny Thanksgiving story. I've shared this before but it's the only story I know of that fits the criteria.

The funniest and most memorable Thanksgiving for me was the first Thanksgiving my hubby and I were together; we were just dating at the time. It was Thanksgiving and we were having dinner with my hubby's family, at Terry's house, hubby's 2nd oldest brother. We had already eaten the dinner and desserts had been put out on ... Sat, 21 Nov 2015 22:38:35 EST Finding Hope... We all go through our good times, not so good times and bad times. I've been in this depression for at least a month now. There are times when I've felt like I don't care about anything. I mean, I literally could care less what happens to us one way or another. I'm starting to kind of climb out of this depression hole that I feel like I've been in. If you've ever seen "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams...the part where he's trying everything he can to get his wife out of hell aft... Sat, 14 Nov 2015 22:56:41 EST October’s Goals Review - November's Goals October’s Goals Review

Eating - Take 1 week and do strict FMD (Fast Metabolism Diet) eating. Eat on maintenance the rest of the month. I think it’s good to mix things up to help keep my body guessing. I didn’t do this for the whole month, instead I just decided to eat according to the FMD phases way for at least half of the month. I just felt like I needed to be stricter about my eating so that I could lose the additional weight I’d put on recently.

Exercise - I’m ta... Mon, 9 Nov 2015 00:31:36 EST Something fun After my MIL (mother-in-law) passed away and after my FIL (father-in-law) decided he was ready to have people he knew take things that belonged to her that he wouldn't use or wanted, I looked through her craft stuff and took almost all of the projects she had started but never completed. The only thing I didn't take was a quilt that she had started but never finished before she passed. She had embroidered several pieces of material that had a rose on them. She never felt well enough after ... Thu, 29 Oct 2015 22:05:35 EST Accomplishments this year This week for the Aspire & Inspire Ghastly Ghost Buddy Support Group team we were asked to blog about our accomplishments this year and the rest of the year. We will soon be in the fourth quarter of the year. What have you accomplished so far this year? What do you hope to accomplish before the end of this year?

I managed to get down to my 1st long term goal. Unfortunately, I was only able to maintain it for a week or two. No matter how much I try I can't seem to get back ... Wed, 28 Oct 2015 16:59:49 EST Celebrating Halloween This week for the Aspire & Inspire Buddy Support Group Challenges we were asked to blog about celebrating Halloween. Do you celebrate Halloween? If so, how and what sort of goodies do you give your trick or treaters?

No, I don't celebrate Halloween unless you count doing a Halloween Horror movie marathon. We live 4 miles outside of a little town in the forest. So, we don't have trick-or-treaters that come to the house. Therefore I don't buy nor give out goodies. Since I've be... Thu, 22 Oct 2015 23:12:53 EST Hoarding I don't watch nor have watched more than 10 minutes of one of those hoarding shows. I just can't watch them. It would drive me crazy to have all of that stuff around me. The less "stuff" I have the better I feel. I have a handful of knickknacks that were given to me over the years but I got rid of 99% of them. I also don't keep books around because where we live mold can be a big problem. I have some craft stuff that I do need to get rid of though. Things that don't really interest me ... Sun, 18 Oct 2015 00:52:06 EST How to avoid eating tons of Halloween Candy This week for the Aspire & Inspire Spooky Spiders BSG team we were asked to write a bonus blog about how we avoid eating Halloween treats. Specifically...Are you tempted with Halloween treats? How do you overcome?

This is going to be an easy blog because we live out in the woods and we don't get trick or treaters coming to our door. So, it's easy to avoid being tempted by Halloween treats. Since there aren't any trick-or-treaters coming to the door I don't buy any and am not tempt... Fri, 16 Oct 2015 16:32:04 EST Short Days and Long Nights or Warmer Long Days and Short Nights For the A&I Ghastly Ghosts team we were asked to blog about this topic. The time will be changing soon. Do you prefer the shorter days and longer nights, or do you long for warmer, longer days again?

Well, this was a simple question to answer for me I definitely prefer the longer, warmer days of spring and summer compared to the short, cold days of fall and winter. I like being outside during the long, hot and sunny days of spring and summer. It's not until the temps get into the ... Tue, 13 Oct 2015 20:14:48 EST Review of September and planning for October Review of September

In September my husband and I drove out to Colorado to see our friends and to go to their daughter’s wedding. We’ve known their children since they were in grade school. I knew it would be too hard to keep on eating the way I had been eating while we were out there and since I haven’t taken anymore weight off in the last 6 months I decided to go into maintenance for now. We also have other things going on like my husband looking for a job in anothe... Sun, 4 Oct 2015 23:32:07 EST Visit to Colorado Or long time friends, Mark and Kerry wanted us to come out for their daughter's wedding. We didn't feel like we could afford it so they paid for us to come out and take care of their dogs the day before as well as the day of the wedding. They also had offered for us to come live with them while Randy tried to get a job in Colorado or California. We were going to take them up on the offer and tried to get them better internet access. When we couldn’t get them better internet access we de... Sun, 27 Sep 2015 15:49:34 EST ChChChChanges.... Changes can be good or not so good. Even if they are good changes can be stressful at times. It was a big change for me to leave my family behind in Colorado. A big change for me to move from the only state I'd ever lived in. I embraced it though. It was definitely stressful in many ways though.

Well, hubby and I have once again decided it's time for a change. I've been wanting this for a couple of years now but there was a straw that finally broke the camel's back when it ca... Mon, 17 Aug 2015 04:34:51 EST Summer Heat or Cold Winters This week for the A&I Strawberries and Cream BSG team we were asked to blog about whether we prefer the summer heat or cold winters. Do you enjoy the heat and being outdoors more or do you prefer the colder temps, snow, etc. that comes along with winter?

I'm definitely a fun in the sun person. I don't like the temps when they are in the 90's but I do love being outdoors when it's a little less warm. I love all outdoor activities and in the winter I count down the days until spri... Wed, 29 Jul 2015 03:14:33 EST Conundrum I'm kind of between a rock and a hard place. We're going out to Colorado in September for the wedding of the daughter of some really good friends of ours. We'll be staying at their home while we're there. They live north and way out east of Colorado Springs. We'll be taking care of their dogs for a couple of days while they stay at the resort the night before and the day of the wedding. We have lots of people we need/want to see. Also, hubby is thinking about trying to set up some job i... Sat, 25 Jul 2015 20:43:23 EST My favorite summer activity My favorite summer activity is doing pretty much anything outdoors. I love going for a brisk walk or a slow relaxing walk with my hubby. I also love hiking, swimming, riding my bike canoeing or pretty much any other outdoor activity.

Since we moved to Missouri though one of my favorite summer activities is to go to the natural springs not far from where we live. Alley Spring is about 40 miles from here. Alley Spring is a 100 year old grist mill that would grind grain into flour... Tue, 21 Jul 2015 20:44:14 EST My ideal summer We have lots of friends and family in Colorado. I'm in touch with many of the people I knew in high school thanks to facebook. 41 Yes, facebook can be a big waste of time but I love that I'm able to stay in touch with so many people I knew from high school and family members in many different states. I have a couple of Spark Friends that live in Colorado whom I've never met that I'd love to meet and spend a little time with them.

So, my ideal summer would be to spend ... Thu, 16 Jul 2015 20:04:42 EST Summertime in southern Missouri This week for the A&I Strawberries and Cream BSG team we were asked to blog about what summer is like where you live?

Summer in southern Missouri is vastly different from what I was used to when I lived in Colorado. The summers here are very humid and hot. The average temperature is around 90 degrees but it’s not terribly unusual to see temps closer to triple digits. Ninety degrees feels so much hotter here where it’s humid compared to Colorado where the humidity is negligi... Sun, 12 Jul 2015 05:05:23 EST Independence Day For the A&I Strawberries and Cream BSG team we were asked to do a bonus blog about Independence Day here in America. Do you have any plans for celebrating Independence Day?

We did not have any plans for celebrating Independence Day. Living outside of a very small town there aren't many options for celebrating the day. Last year I think they set of fireworks at the high school track. I don't know if they did that this year or not. I wasn't feeling well and was running a tempera... Wed, 8 Jul 2015 19:41:23 EST June Recap and July Goals Looking back at June it wasn’t a bad month but it wasn’t exactly a great month either. At the beginning of the month I went to see a new endocrinologist. I’ve seen several since I’ve been here and neither of them knew as much as I did about my medical condition. I’d heard lots of good things about this doctor so I was cautiously optimistic. About a week before going to the appointment I kept having second thoughts about seeing him and almost canceled my appointment several diffe... Wed, 8 Jul 2015 04:44:49 EST Colorful Colorado This week for the Aspire & Inspire Buddy Support Group Rapid Runners team we're to blog about anything we want.

I was born and raised in Colorado. I lived in Colorado for over 30 years. While it's very beautiful where I'm in southern Missouri on the edge of Mark Twain National Forest, my heart belongs to Colorado. There are so many beautiful places to visit; many hiking, biking, walking trails. Of course there's always skiing in the winter time. 41 I decided for my ... Tue, 30 Jun 2015 04:21:50 EST Celebrating Father's Day This week for the Aspire & Inspire Rapid Runners we were asked to blog about how we will spend Father's Day? Do you have any special plans?

For Father’s Day we called and talk to my FIL. I imagine that my BIL and his girlfriend or hubby’s nephew will probably have him over. However, I’ll probably invite him to come over some day this coming week or maybe we’ll bring some food down to his house. I’ll also be thinking about my dad and wishing he were still alive. It’s... Sun, 14 Jun 2015 14:17:52 EST Making yourself a priority This week for the A&I team we were asked to make a blog about 5 ways we make ourselves a priority. I think most, if not all of us, are guilty of not making ourselves a priority. We probably wouldn't be overweight if we did make ourselves a priority. Most of ust think about taking care of others first and then putting ourselves last on the list.

So, the first thing we have to do is decide that it's essential to our health and overall well-being that we make ourselves a priority.... Tue, 9 Jun 2015 23:39:24 EST May's Review and June's Goals Ugh! May wasn’t a great month for me. First, hubby accidentally dislocated several of my ribs. My bones are not very dense so I’m lucky that they didn’t break. We were hugging and hubby had his arms around my torso and went to lift me up like he’s done hundreds of times before when we both heard at least 3 distinct pops. He thought he’d popped my back but it felt like it was my ribs. I didn’t have any pain until about a half hour later though; although I was a bit lightheaded... Fri, 5 Jun 2015 05:30:01 EST How to have fun w/out spending any money This week for the Aspire & Inspire Buddy Support Group Radiant Roses team we were asked to do a bonus blog. Wed, 27 May 2015 02:23:13 EST Memorial Day Celebrations How will you celebrate Memorial Day? Does it carry any particular special meaning for you?

We don’t usually do much of anything for Memorial Day. If we lived in Colorado still we might get together with family for a picnic or barbeque. My FIL is in Illinois helping his sister and her husband. They are both blind and need some work done on their house. Otherwise I might have invited my FIL over for dinner with us.

Memorial Day is a time to remember our military and ... Thu, 14 May 2015 02:28:19 EST Mother's Day Celebrations This week for the Aspire & Inspire team we were asked to write a bonus blog for our Buddy Support Groups about Mother's Day Celebrations. Do you have anything special planned to celebrate Mother's Day?

Since my mom lives in another state I don't have anything special planned for Mother's Day. I don't have any children either. I have already sent her a card for Mother's Day and I'll probably call her to wish her a happy Mother's Day. Our relationship is a bit strained so I'm alw... Thu, 7 May 2015 03:41:04 EST So long April; Glad to see you May April was not the best month for me but not the worst either. I started out the month with a bad kidney infection and was on antibiotics for 2 weeks for it. Unfortunately I developed a yeast infection in my mouth due to the antibiotics for the kidney infection and had to take an antibiotic for it for a few days as well. Plus, my dad would have been 77 on April 1. While we weren’t very close I still miss him and think about him especially on his birthday.

I finished making the... Sun, 3 May 2015 18:12:24 EST Update on Aunt J Hubby talked to his Aunt J yesterday after she went to see the oncologist for the results of her biopsies. The news was really good. She is in Stage I the very early stages of lung cancer. It was kind of a fluke that they found it so early. The oncologist said that the tumors were really small and that he advised to just do radiation treatment and nothing else since they are so small. She decided to just do that instead of going to L.A. with my hubby because it is in the early stages. H... Tue, 28 Apr 2015 20:51:41 EST How can some people be so mean?? My hubby's Aunt J, on his dad's side, was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. It's the #1 killer here in the states and the cure rate is pretty low. Aunt J and her husband, Uncle M are both blind. She's been blind from a young age due to a genetic cancerous eye disease called retinoblastoma. Aunt J's husband slowly lost his eye sight over the years and within the past year or two became completely blind due to several eye diseases. Aunt J had two biopsies, one in each lung and each time... Mon, 27 Apr 2015 02:04:20 EST April Showers This week’s Aspire and Inspire BSG blog challenge is to write about our blessing. Tue, 7 Apr 2015 18:39:09 EST Glad to see March go! March wasn’t the best month I’ve ever had but not the worst either.
