CASHER52's SparkPeople Blog CASHER52's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Feeling Defeated I joined a gym and honestly don't feel like I had proper training, thus the injured muscle in my back. I cancelled my membership, and decided for the time being to stick with walking. I saw in our local paper where they were inviting people free of charge to walk in a 1hr. weekly walking program for 12 weeks called Walk with a Doc. Its held at a park that has a paved fitness trail. A different area doctor will lead the walks each week, and you can ask them questions if you like for free. Eac... Wed, 6 May 2015 14:53:20 EST Spring is in the air Spring is the time to put the past behind us and spring ahead! I am determined to finish what I started. However plan A failed big time! I saw in a magazine an article about spinach powder getting good results for helping people lose weight. I guess I was looking for something to help jump start me back on track. They mentioned a popular diet supplement that had this in it in a convenient smoothie packet that you just add cold water to in a blender. I bought a little smoothie blender, and the diet product, an... Tue, 6 Jan 2015 09:16:53 EST Time to put my big girl panties on The first step in any recovery is to admit your mistakes and move on, it's either that or ignore it and keep doing it. I choose the first option, so here it goes...I have gained 10 pounds (technically 12 from my lowest weight). I was going to list all the reasons why that happened, but reasons are just excuses, and the fact is I fell off the wagon and suffered the choice (yes it was my choice, no one made me). So, its time to put on the big girl panties, wipe the tears, block out the self hat... Tue, 23 Dec 2014 09:24:32 EST WWLD You know the saying WWJD (what would Jesus do?) Well, I have a best friend named Linda that is the most real life biggest loser and dedicated exerciser I know! She has lost and kept off over a 100 pounds all by herself! She is my inspiration person, so my new saying every time I don't want to exercise or eat healthy I ask myself WWLD (what would Linda do?) It has really helped me stay focused on my journey, and reminds me that hard work and dedication to this lifestyle journey each and every ... Tue, 2 Sep 2014 11:44:54 EST New Goals...New Motto My 55th birthday is coming up this year at the end of November. I have decided to change my motto from STILL alive at 55 to FEELING alive at 55! What a difference just changing 2 words can make! I have 2 goals (birthday wishes) I would like to reach by my birthday. My new goal weight is 165 by Nov. 26th. which is about 15 pounds to lose. My exercise goal is to be able to run. Its funny that a year ago my goal was just to be able to walk and climb stairs with out feeling like I was going to ha... Mon, 18 Aug 2014 08:26:53 EST Carol's Sunday Comic So I bought myself a nice used bike at a garage sale. 332 I haven't been on a bike in years! I get it home and jump on to see if I remember how. It has hand brakes and I always thought they were on the top side of the handle bars and that you used your 4 fingers to squeeze them, but this bike had them on the bottom side of the handle bars and you would use your thumbs to squeeze them. Then I noticed my toes hit the front wheel when I turned, and there didn't seem to be much room ... Sun, 3 Aug 2014 19:30:37 EST Warning Exercise Could give you energy! LOL After my morning walk I had so much more energy that I came home and swept and mopped my kitchen and bathroom. I think I will tackle the cleaning out of the fridge next! So, unless you want a clean house don't exercise first thing in the morning 334

Carol

542 Happy cleaning! Tue, 24 Jun 2014 09:40:53 EST Summer 5% Challenge Diet Commitment I try to follow the 80-20 rule...eating healthy at least 80% of the time. I eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks. I try to keep calories between 1200-1500. I eat lots of protein, veggies, fruit, and try not to eat too many carbs. I also heard fat doesn't make you fat sugar makes you fat! So, I have been reading labels. I will work on portion control, and drinking more good old plain water.

I am always looking for good and easy and cheap healthy recipes, and Spark has so many! I have bee... I will keep moving everyday doing yard work, mowing, gardening, housework, etc. I will allow myself to relax, but just not all day!

Carol

521 Thu, 12 Jun 2014 09:12:30 EST This journey can be hard! Today I guess I was feeling discouraged since I am struggling to keep the pounds moving down as fast as I would like. I made a list of all the reasons why this journey is sometimes hard. It felt good getting all those bad thoughts out of my head and on paper. Then I thought well you know what?....It was a lot harder carrying around those extra 60 pounds you just lost! It was hard to walk, climb stairs, etc. It was hard finding clothes that I liked that fit. It was hard feeling physically bad ... Sun, 13 Apr 2014 17:35:21 EST 1 year Anniversary Well, yesterday was the first day of Spring and marks my 1 year anniversary that I started this journey. I have lost almost 60 pounds, walked in my first 5k, lowered my blood pressure, and found a breast lump that I couldn't feel before the weight-loss that thank God turned out not to be cancer! I have been able to help my hubby with all the outside yard work like planting and taking care of the garden, mowing, raking, and this winter I helped him with firewood, walking thru the woods carryin... So, my New Years resolution for 2014 is to change my I wish to I will, and then change my I will into I can, and finally change my I can into I did!!

Looking out my window at work I saw an elderly man who was somewhat hunched over, and he shuffled his feet when he walked, but there he was at the park on the walking trail exercising one step (shuffle) at a time. 345 He doesn't know he inspired me!

Have a happy healt... Wed, 27 Nov 2013 10:18:00 EST Smaller clothes Okay I finally gave in and I am wearing 2 sizes smaller work uniform today. I went from wearing pants that I had to worry about falling down (even with belt) to pants that are still a little snug. Same with my work shirt. My other uniform was just so comfy like a security blanket I guess. However, I think wearing clothes that fit will help keep me motivated to lose more weight. In the smaller uniform I can see how far I have come, but also it reminds me I am not done yet. So, here is to makin... Thu, 21 Nov 2013 14:23:39 EST Suprised When I started counting calories I was surprised 100 how fast they add up! I thought I wasn't eating too much, and it was almost all healthy foods. Then I started reading labels to see the calorie count and sometimes even more surprised at the serving size! Example: one of my go to snacks is greek yogurt with a 100 calorie bag of almonds added. The yogurt is 100 calories and with the nuts you now have a 200 calorie snack. When you start counting calories for the day, and you are f... Thu, 14 Nov 2013 07:36:00 EST Cold weather is here 100 I think I got brain freeze after my mid morning walk, lol. I do not like the cold! However, I am trying to make a lifestyle change, so I am determined to find ways to get outside in all kinds of weather, so that I don't turn back into a couch potato in the winter. Last winter I only got dressed and off the couch when I had to go some where. It was sad when I realized my winter clothes I was packing away for the summer mostly consisted of warm jammies.
I would love some id... Tue, 22 Oct 2013 12:56:14 EST Need to Step It Up Feeling like lately that I am slowing down towards all my goals. Eating and exercising hasn't been as on track as in the beginning, and the scale is starting to not move downward as much. This journey is like everything else in life you get out of it what you put in to it! I still have pounds to lose and goals to make, and I won't go back to the "old" me!! I am still doing ok, but I just don't want to slow down my drive to get where I want to be in my life. I just need to 386 Mon, 23 Sep 2013 09:48:09 EST Dumb Thinking 2 I was just thinking about something and it sounds really dumb. Okay here it goes...I have lost 42 pounds, so far 30 and my clothes are getting really big on me. Now I have bought a couple of new things, but my secret is I like wearing the big clothes. Why?! It makes me feel like wow I have lost a lot of weight! I am scared if I wear clothes that fit I will feel like I am starting all over again! Does this make sense to anyone else?! Most people including me usually ca... Thu, 12 Sep 2013 14:47:07 EST Home from Vacation

Had a good vacation at Pleasant Hill. We tent camped at the State Park. We went boating, fishing, sight seeing, and just relaxed by the camp fire. Then all too soon it was time to come home, and back to work. I tried not to stray too far from my weight-loss journey, but I did enjoy a smore, and a small ice cream cone. Once we were home the next day I got right back on track, and feel I have done well. We shall se... Mon, 9 Sep 2013 07:48:43 EST Today marks another Milestone I have lost 40 pounds, so far, and I am now in Onderland! 244 Wow I never thought I could do this again. Several times I have lost weight and gained it back and then some. I gave up on myself for awhile, and figured I am getting older can't do it again. Then as my weight went up, I had no energy, I didn't feel like doing anything just going to work was a chore, I was depressed, and that is when I knew I had to try again. I am so glad I did! I don't have a goal weight in mind yet. ... Wed, 28 Aug 2013 12:30:00 EST My 1st 5k Walk Pictures

My girlfriend and I walking in my 1st 5k. I walked (and lived to tell about it, lol) a 364 It took me 65 minutes, no world record, but I kept putting one foot in front of the other, and got there. At one point I thought I went deaf in my one ear, then I realized my ear speaker to my mp3 player had fell out, lol. When I thought I couldn't go any farther I heard Jillian Michaels saying if you haven't puked, fainted, or died keep movin! This just goes to show that even an over-weight out of shape old... Sun, 28 Jul 2013 11:17:27 EST 30 Pounds Down Wow never thought I would be able to say that! The other day I even set my alarm to get up early so I could get my walk in before it got too hot. Who knows what the next 30 pound loss will bring, but bring it on cause I can't wait to find out! Wed, 17 Jul 2013 08:03:54 EST Second Time Around 311 I walked 2 miles this morning. I am so proud of myself! 224 The first time I walked it didn't go so well thought I was going to pass out. This time I went on a cooler cloudier day, and in the morning, and took along a water bottle. It wasn't easy by any means, but much better this time! 104 When I got back I wanted to get in our pool to cool off, but it was a mess from the storms that went thru here last evening, so I got in and cleaned it for almost 2 h... Thu, 11 Jul 2013 12:22:41 EST Walked 2 miles today Thought I was going to pass out! I think I didn't pace myself good enough, and I made the mistake of walking in the middle of the day. The sun came out, and it was humid, and I didn't take water with me. I was afraid I wasn't going to make it back home, but I didn't stop once, slowed down yes stop no! Once I made it home and cooled down I was proud of myself! The song I will survive comes to mind, lol. Next time I will learn from my mistakes.

I just kept my mind on my goal of walki... Sat, 6 Jul 2013 14:44:49 EST Time to Add exercise 311 I started a Spark walking program yesterday, walked for 15 minutes. Today I walked 1 mile in 25 minutes. I didn't break any records, lol, but I did it! 250 When I first started my weight-loss journey I didn't have the energy to exercise. I just concentrated on eating healthy, and trying to move more. I have lost 26 pounds so far, and I feel I have the healthy eating part down pretty good and I have more energy now, so I feel that I am ready to add exercise. My main... Sat, 29 Jun 2013 13:43:43 EST Embarrassing Okay I am a computer idiot, I just embarrassed myself on facebook! I haven't made it public to people I know that I am on this weight-loss journey. I have been following a lady from spark who has lost over 100 pounds she also has a facebook page. I commented on her page my feelings about my weight, etc. not thinking people I actually know could see it. Well this morning I log on to facebook and see i have comments from co-workers and friends about my weight-loss journey! Now the comments we... Sun, 16 Jun 2013 09:27:30 EST Eating Out My dear hubby and I went out to eat at Texas Roadhouse to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. This is the first time I was able to control myself by stopping after eating half of everything on my plate (except the salad). It was so good, and I must admit I wanted and probably could of ate it all and then had some dessert, and then there is that voice in your head that says, clean your plate, you paid for it, etc. I am proud to say after eating half I asked for a take-out box, and when we ... Wed, 5 Jun 2013 10:07:12 EST Up Early The words up early didn't use to be in my vocabulary, lol. Not only have I been up since 5:30am, but I have already hoed the garden and watered, have music playing and cleaning the house! Now I am not saying a nap this afternoon won't happen, lol. Before starting this healthy lifestyle journey I would still be in bed! I can't believe how much more energy I have with each pound I lose and each day I exercise, and eat healthy. Just all the reasons to stay focused on my goals!

3... Fri, 31 May 2013 07:43:57 EST First week of not losing Okay so I didn't gain, but I didn't lose any weight either. 39 I knew there would be weeks like this, and some weeks where yes I might gain, but it doesn't make it any easier! I need to look back at my week to see where I could have done better. Some of the things I think were different are: the weather changed back to being cooler, and I didn't get outside and work in the yard as much. 27 I had some family drama that is still on going, so stress has been a factor. ... Wed, 29 May 2013 09:53:13 EST The Garden I think the hubby is starting to like my weight-loss he is liking all the outside help he is getting this year. Last year he couldn't get me outside to help him plant the garden, but I have been out in the garden getting my hands dirty this year! I think this is a good thing, lol. Wed, 15 May 2013 23:10:24 EST Proud of Myself Pizza is my weakness. Now I know you can eat pizza, and stay on a healthy eating plan, but not if you can't trust yourself from eating the whole thing! My way around this is to buy one of the frozen healthy pizzas that control the portion size. Last night hubby made his pizza, and I had my healthy one. He offered me some of his, but I said NO. I found that by eating a salad first then I added fresh mushrooms, onions, green peppers, etc. to my little pizza I was pleasantly full. 30 ... The weather here in Ohio was pretty crappy , cloudy, cool, sprinkles, snow flurries, and wind. The forecast for most of the up coming week is warmer, but more rain. I was just starting to enjoy being out, ugh. I did not get much exercise, but I have been eating healthy. Stay strong stay focused and you will succeed! Sun, 14 Apr 2013 18:30:59 EST Happy Hump Day! Well spring is finally in the air and it feels good getting some fresh air. Had a great week losing 2 pounds for a total of 7, woohoo! Even though I have a long way to go I am suprised at how much better I feel both mentally and physically. I am not as depressed and have more energy, plus I can breath with my pants fastened, lol. All motivation to keep me going forward and downward!

67 Wed, 10 Apr 2013 13:10:20 EST Frustrated Just got home from grocery shopping and spent $60 on healthy food for just me. I try to watch prices and buy the cheapest but healthiest items, and I still get shocked every time at the checkout! I really want to lose weight, but can not afford this! There are other people besides me in the family that would like to eat too, lol. I have always had this problem, and that is why I am fat, because hot dogs, bologne, frozen pizzas, chimichangas, potatoes, etc. are cheap and the whole family will ... Thu, 28 Mar 2013 16:13:56 EST 1 Week Today I did well my first week back on my journey. I lost 4 pounds! I debated to weigh-in every week, because sometimes I have a bad habit of letting the scale rule how I am doing instead of me knowing how I did. I also updated my present weight on here. Have to face the fact that I gained the weight back that I lost the last time I was on Spark. Fresh start! Here is to another week of living a healthier life! Wed, 27 Mar 2013 12:32:35 EST New Kitchen Gadget I am eating poached eggs for breakfast, and I am not a cook, so I found at Walmart a microwave poached egg maker. I luv it! What a great time to be re-born but the 1st day of Spring March 20th. Spring is all about living and a new life, and that is what I want to accomplish. Its time for me to bud out and spring forward! Mon, 18 Mar 2013 12:07:19 EST Getting Better I have been out sick. I got a really bad bladder infection, and it was touch and go for awhile! It involved going to ER and everything, but I am happy to say I think I am going to make it! Eating healthy and exercise has been put on hold for now, but just as soon as I feel strong enough I will get right back at it! Sat, 21 Apr 2012 08:41:33 EST The Results Okay I had my last weigh-in at my support group, and it didn't go as good as I had planned. I wanted to lose 3 more pounds to bring my total to 20 pounds down, but the scale stayed the same! The good news is they gave out Biggest Loser awards, and I came in second! Now the plan is keeping myself motivated and accountable without the support group. With all the information and support here at SparkPeople, I know I can do it! Sat, 7 Apr 2012 08:04:28 EST My New Trainer Okay funny story here: I joined a weightloss group for 12 weeks, it's week 10 and I have lost 14 pounds so far. My goal is to lose 20 pounds at the end of the group in 2 weeks, so I need to lose 6 more pounds. My eating plan is doing pretty good, but I haven't started a regular exercise routine yet. I thought about it on my way home and decided to ask my dear hubby to be my personal trainer for the next 2 weeks. I had just got home and was changing into my night gown for the evening, and dea... I work till 7pm, so we eat supper late, and it is usually something quick and easy, and cheap. There isn't many healthy options that I have found that fit into all those. So, I have been trying to eat what we have, but watch the portion size. Sat, 3 Mar 2012 09:02:46 EST Keeping Motivated Well a 2 pound loss this week gave me the strength to keep on going. I was starting to think all my hard work wasn't going to pay off, but it did and will if I continue on the healthy track! Thu, 16 Feb 2012 18:29:01 EST Slow Feeling a little disappointed in my weightloss so far. I joined a weightloss support group and I have not lost as much as the other ladies.
