CARTOONB's SparkPeople Blog CARTOONB's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Prime Rib and Cheesecake Day Today was the Holiday Dinner at my work. Went in about 11 and stood in line talking for about 15 minutes. I got prime rib, mashed potatoes, gravy, horseradish, one roll and two pieces of cheesecake..and a bottle of water. Enjoyed the food and the company.

Afterward, my BFF and I went to the Christmas Show!!! One good thing about eating such a large lunch...none of the free samples sounded good! I got a few presents for Christmas and managed to pick up a few things for myself... Fri, 2 Dec 2016 22:46:29 EST I had really good intentions! We got new couches today!!! I left work early and hurried home so I could move the old furniture out and vacuum behind/under it before the new furniture arrived. I got only part way through before DH and DS arrived with the new couches, wide chair, ottoman and pillows. We all worked together and got the vacuuming done, the old furniture moved out and the new furniture moved in and rearranged to fit. LOVE the furniture (adding pics below).

By the time we got done, we were all t... Thu, 1 Dec 2016 23:32:06 EST Office temptations The office is both a blessing and a not-blessing (sorry, my brain froze and I can't think of the word of opposite of blessing. :P ). When I have left over goodies that my family and I don't need to eat, I love that I can take them to work and my co-workers will snap them up and they are no longer a temptation to me.

However, I don't like it when my co-workers do the same thing! LOL! Today is only Wednesday and we've already had thick, chunky, homemade chocolate chip cookies, ... Wed, 30 Nov 2016 22:48:17 EST Holiday Dinner vs. Holiday Day Every year, my company provides a prime rib dinner for all employees. They include turkey as well as vegetarian and gluten free options to try to accommodate everyone's dietary needs. There is mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, carrots, celery, olives, broccoli and cauliflower with ranch and butter. They even provide soda and bottles of water. Dessert is your choice of cheesecake and there is coffee for anyone who wants it. All of this is served to us by the managers and supervis... Tue, 29 Nov 2016 23:30:56 EST Ruts can be a good thing I don't know about you, but I do better during the week. I have my habits (read "ruts") that work for me. It's easier to drink water. I have a set bed time. My meals are planned out in advance. My workouts are planned and usually more intense. I even remember to do some of the challenges on some of my Spark teams. Now, if I could do all of that without the "work" part. Let me know how to do that since retirement is not a viable option for me just yet.

Streak report:
... Mon, 28 Nov 2016 22:45:55 EST No new news, so just a streak update No news today. It was a new path to me and we had fun. Went around five miles, walk and run intervals. Had a blast! But now I'm tired...and my legs are a little sore.

Made good choices until it was dinner time. Similar to yesterday...tired and hungry. This time we had pizza. Sat, 26 Nov 2016 22:11:27 EST Tired and Hungry are not a good combination Happy Day after Thanksgiving! Started the day off right. I slept in until 8:00, met a friend at the gym at 9:00 and then headed out to do a little bit of shopping (Christmas and grocery). The lines at the stores I went to weren't bad (since it was late in the day). Plus, the grocery store was almost empty!

However, by the time I got home and got everything put away, I was plum tired! DH and I decided to go out to dinner. The combination of being tired and hungry turned into... Fri, 25 Nov 2016 21:07:24 EST A Day of Eating! Oh...and family. ;) Happy Thanksgiving to all of my States friends!! Today was a day of eating and football for me. Started my day by meeting my workout partner at the gym for a 5k walk around the neighborhood. Since the temp was right around 32' when we started, we walked purty durn fast! LOL!

After that, I had time to sit down, watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and look at some of the ads. Cooked eggs and bacon for breakfast and finally took a shower. Got dinner cooked and on the tabl... Thu, 24 Nov 2016 21:29:25 EST They LIE!! All of the sites and experts and whomever say that the holidays are really only three days. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. I assume that non-Christmas holidays are similar in that there is really one main day for celebration and eating. And, technically, those experts are correct.

BUT! But, the joy of the season starts before the actual day. I left work at noon today so I could run a couple of errands and do some prep for the main meal tomorrow. That means that t... Wed, 23 Nov 2016 20:56:15 EST One day closer to the holiday! Must've overdone it a little yesterday...had a few moments where my back cramped again. Luckily, it didn't last for very long. I got through the day with fewer Tylenol and Ibuprofen and no muscle relaxers. Planning to cut down even more tomorrow.

After I got home, I started some of the Thanksgiving dinner prep. I boiled eggs to turn into deviled eggs. I cleaned, cut and dried celery to have peanut butter added later. I put the rolls in the pan so I can take them out of the ... Tue, 22 Nov 2016 23:05:50 EST Good thing I went to work! As many of you know from my blog yesterday (Thank you for all the well wishes!), my back was cramping, making it hard to move. Today, I had a couple of twinges, but nothing too bad. I did NOT take a muscle relaxer since I learned that those put me out!

I did go to work and followed my normal routine, taking it easy on anything that could make my back worse. After work, I went to the gym and walked (slowly) on the treadmill, just to get my steps in. Then I came home. And star... Mon, 21 Nov 2016 23:48:55 EST Getting old sucks... This morning started out as a normal Sunday morning. I got up, fed the dogs, got dressed in my workout clothes and prepared to start my day. However, as I was putting on my socks, my ILS muscle started to cramp. And it continued to cramp for the next couple of hours...not constant, but often enough. Like when I tried to move or breathe or move. DH took me to the doctor and I got some muscle relaxers. Popped one of those and promptly took a long nap.

My back is still sore and... Sun, 20 Nov 2016 22:52:52 EST Sometimes, streaks exert a good pressure One of my smart Spark Friends said that sometimes streaks can add unnecessary pressure to our lives. That pressure causes us to make decisions that may make us miserable. It's good to keep them in perspective...they aren't the end-all, be-all.

At the same time, they can exert positive pressure too...if you let them. DH took me out for lunch to McDonald's and again for dinner to Chili's. I wanted to restart my streak of staying in calorie range, so I pressured myself to make h... Sun, 20 Nov 2016 00:46:56 EST If I could bottle this, I'd be rich!!! Today is the first day of my weekend. Since Thanksgiving is next week, I really wanted to get my grocery shopping done today rather than tomorrow. The Saturday before T-day is SCARY a the grocery store!!!

Anyway, I went to the gym, came home, showered, and got ready to go out. I treated myself to lunch at Panda Express and had the Orange Chicken and Mixed Vegetables. Fri, 18 Nov 2016 00:06:32 EST Purposeful choices Let me start by saying I really like leftovers. Cook once, eat twice (or more)? That is a win for me! I even prefer leftovers for breakfast, unless someone else is cooking for me. In that case I like whatever they are cooking, thank you!

My DH doesn't eat leftovers and DS is celiac, so anything with gluten is off limits for him. The food I chose today for lunch and breakfast took all of that into account. I took one piece of DH's leftover pizza (all meat, thick crust) for bre... Wed, 16 Nov 2016 23:39:19 EST Cranky DH and Cranky DS After a long day at work (not as long as yesterday) and a workout at the gym, I walked into the garage and asked DH a question. He barked at me so I left him to work it out on his own. Came into the house and asked DS about completing his FAFSA. He had "stuff to do" and was too busy to work on it. Of course he was cranky in his response.

I turned on my podcast and tuned them both out. I made dinner, did dishes, folded laundry and shipped a package. When both boys came out o... Tue, 15 Nov 2016 23:46:39 EST Long day at work Today was incredibly long. Got to work at my normal 6:00 am and had a meeting that lasted until 6:30pm. I would normally leave early, work out and then call in from home for the meetings. Today I decided to take my workout clothes with me and take a long lunch and exercise instead. Anytime I change my routine like that, my brain freaks out that I'm going to forget something. So even though I was in bed over six hours, it wasn't six quality hours of sleep.

However, the planni... Mon, 14 Nov 2016 23:10:21 EST Breakfast and Dinner at restaurants today DH offered to take me out to breakfast. Of course I said YES! In laws are in town and to say thank you for letting them stay here and feeding them, they take us out to dinner on Sunday night. Tonight was a Mexican restaurant. I had decided what to get, but I needed more fiber than what was originally planned. So, I decided to go with a different meal. Overall, I ended up over my calorie range by about 100 calories (if I can trust any restaurant nutritional info) and met my fiber goal. ... Sun, 13 Nov 2016 22:50:56 EST Hiked Table Rock Went on a nice, relatively easy walk with some fellow Sparkers and a couple of other folks. We tried a new path, found out it didn't go where we wanted to so doubled back and then made it to the top. Just under four miles. And then we all went to lunch together at the mall. Had a great time and am looking forward to hiking additional trails when we can.

A few pictures that one of my fellow hikers took:

Start:
<img src=" Sat, 12 Nov 2016 23:27:38 EST In-laws in town - routine is interrupted My in-laws are in town because they set up at the local flea market. They spend most of their time at the flea market, so my days are still pretty much my own to do whatever I want. However, today was a little different. MIL asked me if I wanted to join her shopping at Kohl's after they got done setting up. I assumed (incorrectly) that they would be done setting up by 2:00...3:00 at the latest. They start setting up at 9, so five or six hours should be plenty, right?

Nope. ... Fri, 11 Nov 2016 22:03:24 EST Soup Potluck Today Today was the day of the 2nd Annual Fall Soup Bowl! The team that I work with likes to plan little "team building" activities that don't take a lot of effort or a lot of money. One of those activities is a potluck in the fall where we all bring in soups, toppings, chips, breads, desserts, etc. We had 8 or 9 different kinds of soup, rolls and corn bread, two different kinds of chips, pie, cinnamon rolls, carrot cake, chocolate peanut butter balls and toppings like sour cream, cheese and oni... Fri, 11 Nov 2016 00:08:11 EST Not the brightest day of the week I did not have a great day. Forgot my headphones at home and had to listen to the bullpen chatter. Overall, not a great day. The good news is, I stuck with my eating plans and had fewer than 1200 calories for the day - planned. I decided that it was fate. I had the room and the desire for my weekly adult beverage. I'm glad that I had it, but equally glad that I stopped at one. AND, I checked the calories BEFORE I ate one of DH's frosted sugar cookies. That treat would have put me over... DH had a doctor's appointment today and I wanted to go with him so I could hear what the doc had to say. Everything was good and only good news, so DH went back to work afterwards. I had kind of been hoping he'd suggest lunch, but that wasn't to be. Sigh...LOL!

I stopped at the store on the way home for bread for dinner and the came home. Thank you all for the support. You're right, while I technically broke my streak, I didn't "blow it". I made the decision to enjoy my night out with the ladies and I am okay with that choice. That being said, I'm right back on track today. I planned out my meals and snacks and made adjustments to keep myself on track...or back on track.

Here's to another streak!

Staying in calorie range - 1 day streak
Drinking water first - 9 day streak
Sleep at least s... Sun, 6 Nov 2016 22:46:31 EST All good things must come to an end Day two of my weekend proved to be the end of one of my streaks. I knew today would be a challenge. I had lunch with the ladies and the babies followed by Bunco. Pretty hard to stay in calorie range with both of those things in play on the same day. I did eat lightly at breakfast and lunch. Even supper/bunco didn't have that many calories. But I did take today to be my one adult beverage for the week. Overall, I'm over about 300 calories. I'm calling that a win since any other Saturda... Sun, 6 Nov 2016 00:31:40 EST First day of the weekend went okay Like many of you, weekends are harder for me than work days. During the week, I have habits and a regimen and planning meals and snacks is easy. Did I mention I like same old, same old? I'm a planner, plain and simple.

Weekends mess with my planning. I sleep in (sometimes as late as 7:30!) and I workout in the morning instead of after work. I don't buy enough of my weekday snacks to eat them on the weekend too. Part of that is so I don't get bored with those snacks too quic... Fri, 4 Nov 2016 22:04:21 EST Back in the groove Today was a fairly smooth day. Started with water after my 6+ hours of sleep. Packed my lunch and stayed in calorie range. And I felt satisfied most of the day. None of the lingering hunger from the day before. Tomorrow is my weekend and I don't have the pattern/rut set there yet. I need to work on that.

But first, I need to go to bed. I fell asleep twice while typing this. So if it doesn't make sense, please forgive me! LOL!

Staying in calorie range - 12 day... Fri, 4 Nov 2016 00:10:56 EST Doing better today, thank you. Thank you all for the support on my blog from yesterday. Yesterday was a blah day and I threw myself a pretty good pity party. Luckily sleep reset my attitude and today was a lot better. My streaks are still good.

But, now I'd better head to bed instead of finishing Game 7 of the World Series. Looks like it could go into extra innings (tied in the bottom of the ninth) and I really don't care enough to lose sleep by watching it to the end. LOL!

Staying in calorie r... Wed, 2 Nov 2016 23:45:35 EST Who'd a thunk it? Turns out I use food for emotional reasons...not just for feeding my actual hunger. Today was one of those blah days. Nothing really bad happened, but by the end of the day I was in a funk (still am, but trying not to wallow). Mostly feeling sorry for myself with no good reason. So, that means I deserve to make myself better. Generally that means with stuff that tastes good to me. That could be an adult beverage or a fun size candy bar (that I just happen to have laying around) or a cou... Tue, 1 Nov 2016 23:16:59 EST Close enough! In case you didn't know, it's Halloween. We have kids who come to trick or treat, so I buy candy. For the most part, candy isn't my trigger. It can be in the house, on the counter and I can walk past it with no issues. (Chips and dip? Steak and fries? I'm doomed!) Anyway...I was pouring the candy into a bowl to make it easier to hand it out and a mini Twix popped into my mouth!!! All by itself!! Sneaky little bugger! LOL! Not really...I ate it. And now I'm 17 calories over. But g... Mon, 31 Oct 2016 22:30:32 EST I'm getting better at this! Sunday is the only day that DH and I have off together. This morning, DH tells me that he is going to take me out to lunch. Awesome! Oh wait...I already planned my meals so I could be in calorie range again today. But no way am I missing a chance to spend some time with DH. And of course he picks Carl's Jr. (Hardees). Fast food burgers...and I like their burgers.

But, we get there and they have their nutritional information on the board and I see that the chicken soft tacos ... I do not have as much time as I'd like to spend on Spark, so I cannot respond to every comment. However, I do want to keep seeing the support...pretty selfish of me, huh? 100

And on to my update. This morning, I did remember to have water as my first drink of the day. During the week, I have a great routine. I get up, get ready for work, pack my lunch and head to work. On the drive, I drink 16-32 oz of water. The weekends are not quite as habitual. I got up this morning, got dressed for the gym and made some toast and peanut butter and poured my iced tea to go with my light breakfast. Fri, 28 Oct 2016 22:36:09 EST Had a treat - still stayed in calorie range This morning I decided I wanted a chai tea (caffeine and warmth!). Plus I had a free drink coming. I got a drink, skinny, and still stayed in calorie range!

Since it is my Friday, I did consider imbibing in an adult beverage. I haven't had one since my week began (Sunday through Saturday) so it fits the one adult beverage per week goal. However, I only had about 50 calories left. My goals for the new year, of course! This is the easy part...deciding what to do. Sat, 2 Jan 2016 21:48:09 EST Me too!! It is the last day of 2014 and it is required to look back and reflect. It also seems as though it is required to look forward and plan. too!!

I've considered my goals for the last year, where I did well, where I didn't. There are things I want to continue to focus on, so I will incorporate those desires into this year's goal.

I finished 67 books this year. Towards the end of the year, I read one book that was actually three books. I counted it as one book... Wed, 31 Dec 2014 23:05:40 EST Sometimes, this stuff works!! I had four goals when I started this year.

1. Save $1 in week one, $2 in week 2 and so on up to $52 in week 52.
2. Read, on average, one book per week.
3. Lose ten pounds by April 1st.
4. Build tone and definition in my arms.

For the first goal, I have saved over $1100 of the $1347 goal. The year's not over, but I'm also using the cash for Christmas. I'm thinking that I might restart the goal, but this time make it December 1st through November 30th.... Tue, 25 Nov 2014 23:36:24 EST WIG - A week in review So...I made a couple changes based on my findings on sugar. I switched to Chobani Vanilla yogurt from Dannon - saved me 3 grams of sugar per day.
