I switched to Chobani Vanilla yogurt from Dannon - saved me 3 grams of sugar per day. Meant to look at a couple of different protein/snack bars and totally spaced it!! When I get to the grocery store, I'm in my zone and I just buy what I buy...no thought required. So...gonna try again next time I shop. Gotta write it down so I pay attention!

One thing I noticed is that although I was within range every day (except the... Sat, 25 Oct 2014 20:21:10 EST WIG Update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5797718 First, tracking sugar is a pain. Very manual. However, I did learn where I'm getting some sugar that I didn't expect. With that in mind, when I go grocery shopping this weekend, I will look for snacks with lower levels of sugar. I'm not going to look specifically for sugar free since they have to replace the sugar with something. And that something might be worse than sugar. But, I know I can find lower sugar yogurt. And snack bars that have less sugar. And I'm not going to cut out fr... Mon, 13 Oct 2014 22:18:12 EST Tracking sugar http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5794360 It's not as easy to track sugar as I thought it would be. There is no "Sugar" box to check on the Spark People tracker. Glucose? Yes. Sucralose? Yes. Sugar, no. 46

Fine...I'll track each food individually. It's a pain, so it won't be a forever thing. Today, I had 31 grams of sugar. I think I'm only supposed to get 25, so that means I'm over. I guess I need to find out for sure what the "recommended" amount is.

Today's number was probably lower t... Tue, 7 Oct 2014 23:23:34 EST WIG Goals for Week 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5793744 To help the day go by faster...and block out the sounds of my co-workers...I listen to a lot of podcasts. One of the podcasts I listened to today is called Logical Weight Loss. It is one guy who talks about his trials and triumphs as he attempts to lose weight. He has done what many of us have done...lost and gained the same 10 - 20 pounds over and over.

Today, the topic was why soda is the new cigarettes. Dave (the guy) watched a movie called Fed Up (I'm planning to see if i... Mon, 6 Oct 2014 23:23:43 EST Commitments for Day Two http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5788673 The main thing I need to do to meet my WIG is to stay in my calorie range every day. There are two things I'm going to do that I don't normally do to help me do that. One, I am going to practice mindful eating. I will put my fork (or spoon) down after every bite. I will stop eating if I'm full before the food is gone. And I will pack less food since I've found that I'm easily satisfied with less.

Second, I'm going to meet my fiber range every day, preferably with fruits and ... Sun, 28 Sep 2014 21:44:25 EST My WIG - Wildly Important Goal http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5788127 I just finished reading a book called the Four Disciplines of Execution. It is a book directed at business managers and leaders to help them help their teams reach goals. One of the main things that is suggested is to think of one (or at most two) Wildly Important Goal. Your WIG should be in the format "Move from X to Y by this date".

So...my goal, my WIG, is to go from my current weight (143) to 130 (loss of 13 pounds) by November 28, 2014. That is my WIG and the weight on t... Sat, 27 Sep 2014 22:40:08 EST Time for another update! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5748573 I have four goals for this year.

1. Save $1 in week one, $2 in week 2 and so on up to $52 in week 52.
2. Read, on average, one book per week.
3. Lose ten pounds by April 1st.
4. Build tone and definition in my arms.

For the first, I have saved over $700, so I am over half way in dollar amount. But less than half way for number of weeks. I think that overall, I am on track. Really like this goal!

For the second, I have read thirty seven boo... Mon, 28 Jul 2014 22:28:05 EST Goal/Resolution Update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5657431 At the beginning of this year, I set four goals for myself.

1. I've already checked off the $52 week and a whole bunch of the smaller ones. The remaining weeks will be a ch... Wed, 26 Mar 2014 23:50:50 EST I got my hair done today! With pictures!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5642518 There is a trend at my work - many ladies are chopping off all of their hair! And I mean short, above the ears short. Everyone who has done it looks very cute with their new, short hair. However, I don't think my face can support hair that short...it just wouldn't look right.

But...I did decide that I am sick of my hair. I wanted to do something new and different, but not too different. Goth and pink were both out! I knew I wanted to have shorter hair and I was waffling be... Fri, 7 Mar 2014 23:09:14 EST Why? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5635644 People are odd. Okay, so that's not news for any of you.

Today, the entire family went to the gym after work. That is a busy period for my gym (as I'm sure it is in most gyms) and one of the three ellipticals I like is broken. DD got on one of the remaining two...right next to the one already being used. 39 So I got on the treadmill. I don't like the treadmill, but I need to mix it up, so whatever!

Anyway, there are six treadmills in my gym (small gym)... So, here is a quick review.

1. Goal: Read an average of one book per week.
Update: I've read five books so far this year and am half way through a sixth book. I was playing catcher and the play was at home. The runner slid and slid right into me. Bruised my shin and squished my toe. The shin healed quickly. The toe, however, had a dead nail. I thought that maybe the nail was going to be black forever. However, about two months ago, I started to see a white line at the base of my nail. She doesn't believe in vegetables. She subsists on carbs - bread, pasta, oh...and cheese. She does eat spinach salads (spinach is a leaf, not a vegetable). And she will eat pineapple and potatoes. And chicken nuggets. That pretty much is her diet. Oh...and she's 17.

Anyway, in the last two or three weeks, she has decided that she was unhappy with her weight. She has taken charge of tracking what she eats and how ... Time to look at the year past and make plans for the new year just started. I don't like the idea of resolutions, at least not for me. They seem too easy to put aside after a couple of weeks. So, instead, I have some specific plans. Semantics? Yep.

Plan #1: I'm going to read an average on one book per week. I just finished a book today, so I'm starting very close to the beginning. So, at the end of 2014, I will have read 52 books. Please be awa... I go to the gym six days a week and am on the elliptical at least five of those days. I try to mix it up at least one day, but I don't always feel like it. I know that I need to vary my workout, but sometimes that is too much to think about. Especially at 4:30 AM.

So...I was reading an article in one of those little throw away magazines. I know this because one of my goals was to actually weigh what my driver's license said I weighed. And it did!! I just renewed my driver's license and it still says the same weight. I like her straight forward way of communicating. I don't agree with everything she says, but I like to hear her say it anyway.

One of the things she says (and I'm paraphrasing here) is that you can handle any "how" if you know "why". If you know why you want to do something, you're able to handle any how that comes at you.

Which brings up the question, why do I want to lose weight and then maintain... Sun, 6 Feb 2011 00:53:43 EST How long does one week take? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3967323 Holy moly! This week is taking forever. And I'm not the only one who feels this way. All week, it has seemed like the week should be over, or almost over, and it hasn't been! 28

It is finally Friday Eve! And I still feel like the week should have ended long ago! Does anyone have a time machine? I'd like it to be tomorrow at this time....now! Thu, 27 Jan 2011 21:23:28 EST Peanut Butter Burger?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3948875 For lunch today, I went with some co-workers to a restaurant called "The Ram." It is one of those restaurants that I don't go to with my family because DS can't eat anything there, DD won't eat anything there and DH isn't interested. Whatever.

As I was reading the menu, I saw that they had a burger called "The Peanut Butter Burger." Here is the description.

PEANUT BUTTER
Peanute butter, cheddar, hickory smoked bacon, sliced tomato, lettuce and mayo 9.99
<B... Fri, 21 Jan 2011 22:53:34 EST Kitchen cures for gorgeous skin??? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3929111 I have a magazine (Woman's World) that I read. It is a weekly periodical and every week they have new ways to keep your hair shiny or your nails perfectly manicured or whatever. (BTW...I'm about six months behind, so this was a June issue) 2

The week that I'm reading has the headline "Kitchen Cures for Gorgeous Skin." Now, I know what they mean. They are going to give us great hints on using items that we already have in our kitchens to make our skin gorgeous.
... Sun, 16 Jan 2011 00:01:58 EST Lower body exercises http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3915873 I have decided that I need to restart my lifting routine. Lifting upper body, for me, is easy. By that, I mean that I know lots of different exercises for each muscle group. I can vary the routine fairly easily using free weights, machines or a combination. No problem!

However, lower body is another story. I won't use the inner/outer thigh machine. Too likely to cause an injury. The leg press is the wrong exercise for my body type (my booty is the size it needs to be, thank ... Tue, 11 Jan 2011 22:23:47 EST Unexpected texts http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3902153 As many of you already know, I celebrated my birthday on January 6th. The twelfth day of Christmas. My 21st anniversary of my 21st birthday. Overall, a very good day. However, it was a day of unexpected texts.

First, my older brother wished me a happy birthday by commenting on how old I was. Please note, I did say *older* brother. Dork. Oh...did I mention that he sent me that text on January 5th? The eleventh day of Christmas. Silly brother! LOL!

Thursday morni... Fri, 7 Jan 2011 23:16:46 EST It's hard to sleep when you can't breathe http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3881277 I have a cold or a sinus something going on. It's not too bad as long as I don't change elevation. Or lay down. Or try to breathe. Actually, while I'm awake and moving around, I really feel fine. However, laying down last night proved to be a challenge!

I'm sure my DH asked me to roll over multiple times to try to stop my snoring. Thank goodness he used that method instead of a pillow! LOL! Finally, around four this morning, I got up to fine some extra pillows. I put those ... Sun, 2 Jan 2011 18:07:09 EST Look at me go! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3867999 I have a rule that Christmas decorations MUST be down (at my house, anyway) by January 6th. Since I have this week off, I decided to get the tree and decorations done today. I "let" the kids help. I even recruited my DD's friend to assist. The tree and decorations done, it was time for lunch.

After lunch, I decided it was time to tackle the pantry. MIL gave us a halogen cooker for Christmas. Very cool gift that cooks quickly and cleans easily. But, I had no place for it! Th... Tue, 28 Dec 2010 21:43:26 EST What do you really want for Christmas? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3865785 When I am shopping for someone for a gift, whether it's for Christmas or a birthday or whatever, I like to have a list. Please tell me what you want and I will do what I can to find it for you. Please don't make me guess. I *want* to get you something that you will like.

In that vein, I always try to have a list of things I wouldn't mind having. From the fairly inexpensive ("Here Come The Mummies" CD) to the outrageously expensive, don't expect to get (Insanity Workout). And... Mon, 27 Dec 2010 22:03:40 EST
