June 30 was my last official day as an International Worker. Yesterday was my first day of RETIREMENT. <BR> <BR> A friend of mine told me that one retires so one has the time to go to the Doctor! Well, on July 1, I went to see my Primary care doctor about my sleep apnea. You see, the company that supplied my CPAP machine does not accept MEDICARE. I needed to find another company. I had two successful eye surgeries for cataracts. The first was on Thursday June 18th, the second was two days ago, Thursday June 25th. <BR> I am now about to see, drive, do facebook without glasses! I do still have double vision and will see a Doctor for that after the holiday. Sometimes I have eye strain because of the double vision but I am able to get my eyes focused alright. I had the cataract removed from my right eye on Thursday. Surgery went well. I saw the Doctor in the office on Friday. He seemed pleased. He also rescheduled surgery on my left eye from July 2nd to this Thursday, June 25. He made the change so that both surgeries will be covered by the same insurance. My church supports several projects in this very poor African country. Over 200.000 meal pouches were prepared, sealed, packed into cartons, onto pallets then put on trucks to truck to a container for shipment to Mali, Africa. Yesterday I went to my eye doctor to have an routine exam. I thought I was getting new glasses but... I flunked the test!!! That is, my right eye flunked. My vision went up three lines on the site chart!! Going "up" on an eye chart is not good. I have had diagnosed cataracts for maybe 8 years but this time the right eye shows that it's cataract has blocked much of my vision. I had not even realized it since my left eye was doing ok. It is so good being home in my apartment in Omaha. My trip was everything that I wanted. I got to see so many people I know which was just great. UPDATE: on a minor surgery that I had this morning. An oral surgeon took off a very small growth from my tongue and another one from my soft palate. I have one or two small stitches on the tongue. The Dr. cauterized the little hole which was the size of a pea that was left in my palate. He felt I might bleed from either the tongue or palate because he wanted me to stay on the Aspirin that I normally take daily. He said the bleeding would only last the first 24 hours. This afternoon I returned back from my mini vacation. A girlfriend from church and I went away for a bit over two days and two nights. We went site seeing at museums, saw a movie, went to some thrift shops and ate out ate many restaurants. We had fun. Tomorrow we'll finish up our mini vacation by visiting another church that our denomination started about three years. I saw my Dental Hygienist at the end of December. When I saw her again three weeks later I had a "bump" on the roof of my mouth. It is still there, along with a small growth on my tongue. Today I saw an oral surgeon. The small (6 mm) growth is in my salivary gland. I have another small (6mm) growth (fibroma) on my tongue. Both of these growths will be removed under local anesthesia on April 29th. The Surgeon said that the area on my soft palate will take about ten days to heal. I picked the A... All the children of the other missionaries call me "Aunt Carolyn". I have "hay fever" and asthma and right now I have either both or a cold. Sometimes I can not tell the difference. With Spring in the air though, I think my runny, stuffy nose and my cough are related to allergies. CPAP IS "CONTINUOUS POSITIVE AIRWAY PRESSURE". I wear a mask and humidified air is blown into the mask. I breath in this forced air through my nose and it has enough pressure to make sure that my airway stays open. It had been closing off or partially closing off. Some people use a nose mask but I do better with a full mask, even though I do not generally mouth breath. <BR> <BR> During the sleep test I had 24-25 times EVERY HOUR w... A photo was taken of the area and it had not changed from last month. The dentist thinks it might be medicine induced. I may have had a cut or something that got inflamed by my Asthma spray. It does not look like any classic "disease". I have an appointment for another cleaning in April. If it gets larger before then, I need to contact her. February 16-20 they will take Comprehensive Exams of everything they have studied since September 2012. They will then have one week off before their March 1st Graduation from Nursing School. They will be new Nurses. Many will be hired by the hospital. A couple of them will study a one year Midwifery Course. I'm waiting for the whole report to be mailed to me but this is what I did learn. I only had 5 periods of apnea during the night. I was pretty sure I had sleep apnea and the test confirmed that I do. My oxygen level dropped down quite a lot and I was put on a CPAP machine for the rest of the night. Now I need to wait until my doctor calls to tell me that I "flunked" my sleep study and need to sleep with CPAP. <BR> <BR> Today I had a biopsy which followed last week's mammogram and ultrasound.
