After our daughter’s wonderful wedding, we found a condo we liked, made a bid and our offer was accepted. We closed on October 26th. Actually we arrived in St. Louis on the 24th after a wonderful ten days with family in D.C. The afternoon of our arrival, we did a walk through before the closing, met with our painter and a friend of DSIL who is retir... As I am discovering most of that stuff is unnecessary, but basement storage rooms make it too easy to keep.
We are now getting ready to put our house on the market and move to be nearer to family. Two basement and 1/2 of three basement rooms are done, ready for pick up by DD for her new house, packed up or waiting for the... Fri, 9 Jun 2017 10:15:45 EST Awesome Mothers' Day Our DD fiancé suggested to DD that they host us at his house for Mothers' Day weekend. Saturday evening we went to a lovely spot on the river, ate Thai food and listened to live music with the sunset coloring the sky behind us. Sunday morning DD fiancé made a delicious breakfast with pancakes. eggs, sausage and fresh fruit. He grilled chicken, sweet corn, roasted potatoes and a zucchini, peppers, mushroom and onion veggie mix for dinner. Later we sat around a fire pit and made s'mores. La... Mon, 15 May 2017 18:27:49 EST Gratitude In mid February, we had a gorgeous Saturday. DH went off to play tennis outside and I went for my first bike ride in a long time. We live so close to wonderful bike trails ( gratitude #1) that I only had to cross one street to spend 45 minutes pedaling through a lovely green belt park along a local creek. Never rode very fast as there were strollers, tricycles, bikers and walkers enjoying the spectacular weather. The only downside to our location is that the end of my ride is up a relative... Wed, 26 Apr 2017 14:46:49 EST Not really political, just a gift Sometimes the gifts from our children touch us. Below is what My son posted on Facebook yesterday. I am touched, humbled and proud.

I've been avoiding FB the last 18 hours or so and think I will probably take a fb holiday for the next few days as well. But I wanted to put this out there:

I'm scared, disappointed and unbelievably upset by the election results. As the father of a multiracial daughter I'm so worried about how she will be perceived and treated in a Trump... Thu, 10 Nov 2016 23:14:06 EST New Granddaughter pictures We just returned from a wonderful 10 day visit with DS, DDIL and DGD. We got to see here go down the big kids slide for the first time. The first picture is her climbing up to the slide. The next two are different views of her Halloween costume.

<img src=" Mon, 24 Oct 2016 15:14:01 EST A new treatment for depression
Imagine waking up one beautiful spring morning and feeling a grey fog invade your heart, mind and energy. Your zest for living ebbs, your relationships with loved ones wither, your ability to perform every day tasks dissipates. And somehow, it seems to be your fault, you feel guilty and ashamed for not being able to accomplish much beyond getting dressed each day…and sometimes not even that. This is how depression feels, how it affects your life and the lives of those around you. ... Sat, 11 Jun 2016 09:52:25 EST Our Christmas this year We are an blessed family as my DD pointed it. We all are in financial situations to meet our needs and many of our wants. She suggested and received 100 % agreement to not give each other gifts this year. We each have chosen a charity and ask that donations be made to it.
My DH and I have chosen the American Refuge Committee. Here's a copy of their mission statement:
Mission
Founded in 1979, the American Refugee Committee International (ARC) is a humanitarian aid organization t... Actually knowing that is a big help. It means once November hits I need to be aware of the importance of light for me....light from my light box, light on sunny days and connecting to that which lights my heart....friends, family and quiet time. My goals for this month are to use my light box at least 5 times a week, see friends and connect with family every other day and to set aside quiet time for myself each day. Tue, 3 Nov 2015 10:59:55 EST Can she get any cuter? OK, I admit that I am a doting grandmother, especially when I realize all my blogs since her birth have been about our DGD. But, honestly, doesn't this picture just make you smile! Wed, 30 Sep 2015 09:45:41 EST Fathers Day Wed, 24 Jun 2015 16:37:34 EST Holiday Joy and new pictures of granddaughter We spent 8 days with DS's family in D.C. including a houseful of 14 family members on Christmas day. He bought a set of inexpensive of measuring cups and spoons. There are many foods that I eat often and that I always use the same amount. For instance, my oatmeal box now has a 1/2 measure in it. My ground flax seed jar has a tablespoon in it. My yogurt has 1/4 c. measure in it. Get the idea? It's so simple and I don't "estimate" because the right size measuring cup is in the dishwasher.
Thu, 16 Oct 2014 12:28:18 EST How Yoga is changing me Today my husband and I went to a political event (we live in Iowa, so there are plenty of political events.) This one was an annual steak fry that one of our senators sponsors. We were there to help support a PAC that is working for clean energy resources. After passing out fans, holding signs and watching all the press people, we sat around for a while. Although we had free tickets for the food.... somehow potato salad, beans and steak or chicken just didn't appeal... we left early. The c... Sun, 14 Sep 2014 19:06:02 EST Wonderful time with family Our DS and DDIL are moving to a brandnew house next week. We have been helping them pack and watching the baby. She is seven month old and a total charmer.... smiles, laughs, coos and "talks", loves the dogs, the outside, rolling over and her grandma and granpa.... and her mom and day as well. Mon, 31 Mar 2014 09:21:59 EST January Joy January has started my New Year with all sorts of joy. Our DS and DDIL continue to send pictures almost daily of our new granddaughter. She had gained almost a pound in her first two weeks of life! The pediatrician described as "flourishing."
On January 4th, I began the last 100 hours of my yoga teacher training. After 8 days of twice a day yoga practice (about 90 min in the morning and 45 in the afternoon), hours of class work... feeling overwhelmed with information by the 4th day... Fri, 17 Jan 2014 10:11:12 EST Okay, so I have even better news! I have been quite inactive on Spark for the last ten days. I'm not sure exactly how to put the time in perspective succinctly, but please bear with me.
On Dec. 20th, we were driving in northern Missouri on our way to St. Louis to visit family including our daughter before flying out to D.C. on Christmas Eve to join our son, daughter-in-law and step grandson (he is thirteen, came into our lives at age 6 when his mom and... Tue, 31 Dec 2013 12:51:55 EST Update on Best News Ever My nephew's father in law is out of intensive care, did not have some of the complications that can be expected with such surgery and is relatively comfortable. Things look very good for him being home by Christmas. Our nephew's wife has recovered from her pneumonia so she can visit her dad in the hospital.
Somehow the tinsel, ads for extravagant gifts, the usual stress many associate with this season just float over the surface of my mind and heart and gain no foothold. I know that... Tue, 17 Dec 2013 11:17:59 EST Best News Ever Our family just received the best holiday gift imaginable. We are very close to my DH's family, especially his sister and her children. Our DD considers her cousins more like brothers. My SIL's youngest son has a lovely wife and two wonderful young children. His wife's father is very ill and needs a liver/kidney transplant to live. We just heard that not only are the organs available (please send light and love to the family who donated from their loss), but that both liver ad kidneys ar... Wed, 11 Dec 2013 18:38:55 EST Fifty Years Ago I know that those of us who were aware of the world around us cannot forget where we were or what we were doing 50 years ago Nov. 22 (the day I am writing this).
I was an 18 year old freshman in college happily packing up our room with my new best friend and roommate as we were moving into a brand new dorm from our temporary housing in an old hotel at the edge of campus. All of us had our doors open, radios blaring with a variety of stations. All of a sudden it seemed as all of our rad... Fri, 22 Nov 2013 09:26:01 EST Open your heart Just because we have something doesn't mean it's ours. No one is an owner in our universe, everyone is a medium, a custodian at the most. Whatever you share, it grows — this is the fundamental law of the universe. You share rage, anger grows in you. You share love, love grows in you. You share contempt, hatred grows in you. You share knowledge, wisdom grows in you. You share your time, peace grows in you. You share what you have, and you grow as a person. Sat, 2 Nov 2013 21:52:25 EST 86, 400 seconds God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today.
Have you used one to say "thank you?"
- William Arthur Ward Sun, 22 Sep 2013 12:00:12 EST How to love yourself This is a recommendation for an awesome read. Here's a bit of the full article:

"Personally, I think we suffer an epidemic of self-loathers, or at least self-dislikers. And yet, as with many disorders, this epidemic is based on distorted thoughts, misperceptions, and mind traps. Once a person claims their birthright of self-love, everything in life becomes easier – from work to relationships to simply looking in a mirror."

What follows in the article are three practic... Wed, 18 Sep 2013 10:25:14 EST Never thought I say or think this: Okay, I admit it.... all those people who say that AM exercise is good and maybe better than any other time of day are sooooooo right. I started doing a vigorous early AM (6:00)yoga practice in February. With a few misses and some changes for travel time, I have liked the early practice. Yesterday we returned from a great family visit early enough in the afternoon that I could go to the afternoon practice at my teacher's studio. He and I both agreed I had a dreadful practice full of aggre... Wed, 4 Sep 2013 09:08:53 EST A gift with understanding

This lovely bracelet is a gift from DS and DDIL after their African safari. She was the last of her generation. I hadn't seen my cousins in years and onWednesday, we all had breakfast together. My cousin's wife had gone through my aunt's pictures to pick out ones to give us that she thought would have special meaning. Two especially touched my heart... one was a framed picture of my dad when he was grade school age, so the frame is from the 1920's.... Thu, 22 Aug 2013 16:26:50 EST A beautiful day of love and joy Yesterday, August 12th was our 46th wedding anniversary. We began our day wishing each other Happy Anniversary and sharing a kiss. I went to my early morning yoga practice and a lovely swim at a friend's house. Then Spark time, a lovely long shower relishing the feel of the warm water showering over me.
Then a brief lunch and off to teach a chair yoga class with some joyous, appreciative seniors at a local retirement home. Back to share champagne that was a gift from a dear friend. ... Tue, 13 Aug 2013 11:20:10 EST A huge compliment Last week my yoga teacher asked me to come to a teacher training he was doing. He asked me to be a "client" for a Yoga Wellness coaching session. Since I have recently had a series of physical therapy session as a result of my over ambition in my yoga practice, I have had to totally rework my sequence. I also had to forgo any yoga practice for almost 3 weeks.... a huge issue for me since I have been practicing 5-6 days a week since February. However, all events can have a silver lining. ... I took the two leftover tomato slices, two slices of turkey bacon, chopped the lettuce, cut the corn off that last little pathetic cob that was left. Put 1/2 tsp. of unsalted butter in a non stick pan. Poured in the eggs, added the chopped bacon lettuce and tomato and the sweet corn kernels.... Wed, 26 Jun 2013 08:54:53 EST Taking my own advice Often I haver recommended that if injury or others issues keep one from practicing yoga that you can still practice in your mind. I have strained my SI joint and have radiating pain from some nerve involvement. I am in PT, but at PT's directions resting... which means no active yoga practice.
So, I decided to take my own advice. I set my metronome to 40 beat/ min. However, his love, his humor, his joy of life still lives in my heart and the hearts of my children. He was widowed shortly after he and mom moved to our present home. Our children were very young at the time... my DD has no memories of her grandmother. However one memory we all share: In the evening, if the phone rang, the kids...doing homework in their rooms.... would call out, "If it's Granpa, invite him for coffee." He would come over and grand co... Sun, 16 Jun 2013 20:51:40 EST Reading and Yoga: A Metaphor Years ago, too many to count, I learned how to read. I don’t remember the process, but I eventually became a reading teacher and began to understand how it happens. Children who are read to and know the alphabet when they enter school are very likely to be successful readers. Usually reading is taught as a skill through about third grade. Then the focus shifts. The skill is now part of a student’s toolbox of learning. Now instead of learning to read, students are asked to read to learn.... Thu, 30 May 2013 12:45:30 EST Lotus Pose I have been working on lotus pose all of my yoga career.... about 8 years. Today, according to my teacher whom I trust, I finally achieved a relatively good lotus pose. This pic was taken about 7 AM this morning at the end of my practice. I had no idea he had taken the picture... I was deep into stillness. Fri, 24 May 2013 12:32:30 EST Challenging quote The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.
- Marcel Proust
I receive several daily emails with inspirational quotes. Wed, 22 May 2013 11:23:43 EST Wonderful Mother's Day Gift My DD was visiting her cousin in a town with a glass blowing store. They give lessons and you end up with a glass ornament at the end. Thu, 2 May 2013 19:04:14 EST Emotional Eating Thoughts What follows is a summary through the lens of my experience of a couple of articles I read on line this weekend about evening eating and comfort foods.... which to me are just different names for emotional eating.
On some evenings, not all, I do find myself wandering around the kitchen opening cabinets and the frig feeling that I will find just the right something.
