CARLYOLEO41's SparkPeople Blog CARLYOLEO41's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Ragnar Relay - Key West I'm sorry it has been so long since I have made a blog over here. I post most of my blogs on my personal blog.

I ran my second half marathon Oct 21st. It was actually a very bad experience for me. I had a doc appt 2 days prior to the race for heart palputations. My doctor did a bunch of tests, including an EKG, and everything came back perfect. She determined that I was dehydrated, which I think is nearly impossible because I'm constantly dri... Tue, 13 Nov 2012 13:17:50 EST Time for an update I am still blogging (after a 2 month break) over at, but I know a lot of SparkFriends don't check it so I thought I would put an update on here.

I have spent the summer running 3 miles, 3 days a week and participated in 3 5Ks. I've improved my running pace, but I still feel like I have a long way to go. As hard as this is to admit, I haven't lost anymore weight (and I actually gained some lbs back). I never stopped running/exercising, but diet plays such a HUG... Tue, 14 Aug 2012 09:28:30 EST Half Marathon Completed! Last December, 3 of my friends invited me to run the Flying Pig Half Marathon with them on May 6. I decided not to do it because I had never ran over 3 miles and was sure that I needed more than 5 months to be ready. A few days later I came across Katie's blog
and got the motivation I needed to go for it. She walked half marathons at the same weight I anticipated I would be, so if nothing else I figured I could do that, too.

I followed Hal Hig... Thu, 10 May 2012 13:37:38 EST 100 lbs gone FOREVER! *Before/After Pics* 7 months ago, I weighed 349 lbs. I dreaded shopping with my friends, taking my son to the park or having to stand for 20 minutes while waiting for a table at a restaurant. My entire body hurt just trying to do the most simple tasks.

Finally I had enough! I had just turned 29 and decided to try to lose 100 lbs before my 30th birthday. I joined SparkPeople, tracked every piece of food I put into my mouth ... Sun, 29 Apr 2012 14:48:57 EST Time for an update! It's been awhile since I've updated this blog. I spent 2 weeks at the same weight and then went away on a work trip (where we ate out for every meal) and gained a couple lbs. As of tonight's weigh in, I'm back down to where I was when I left. Hopefully that was just a lot of unwanted sodium because I kept up with all my schedule runs (13 miles total last week). I'm not proud of the gain, but I'm glad I got myself back on track afterwards (a point where I have normally given up in the past). <... Mon, 26 Mar 2012 21:18:06 EST 5 Month Sparkversary *75 lbs later* Yesterday marked my 5 months anniversary on SparkPeople.

5 Months ago I weighed 349 lbs, was a size 26/28, and was so unhappy with myself. I dreaded going anywhere that required physical activity. Just going up a flight of stairs left me winded for several minutes afterwards.

Today I weigh 274 lbs, am a size 20 and feel great! I love to do anything active with my friends and, most importantly, I can keep up with my spunky 4 year old! Stairs are no issue for me and I am e... Fri, 17 Feb 2012 10:02:42 EST It's been awhile... I've been pretty busy the last couple of weeks, but things are going well. I'm still in the beginning stages of training for my half marathon. I actually said today that I had a short, 2 mile run to do... that made me feel accomplished. Never in my life has 2 miles of anything been considered "short" to me. My 5K time is down to 42 minutes... I'm trying to be under 40 for the 5K I'm running in March. I hope it's possible.

I have been super, SUPER hungry lately and am fighting mysel... Wed, 1 Feb 2012 16:01:09 EST Guest blog post and half marathon training! I was lucky enough to be asked to write a guest post on
. This is a blog by Katie, a runner, who lost 125 lbs in 16 months and has kept it off! If you've never read it, she's hilarious and easy to relate to. Here's the link to my guest post:

inspirational-guest-post.html

I also decided I'm going to run (or probably mostly walk) a 1/2 marathon on May 6th. The training for that wil... Sat, 21 Jan 2012 09:50:21 EST Short update (exciting personal goal met today!) I started this journey at 349 and a size 26. Today I weighed in at 286 and bought a pair of size 20 jeans!!! I have been working my butt off (literally) and it has not been easy, but when these jeans buttoned today it was totally worth it!
(Sorry for the butt shot!) Sun, 15 Jan 2012 19:07:35 EST Overcoming unexpected setbacks... Just when I thought I escaped the funk that was going around work I came down with a sinus infection, stomach bug, cold and bronchitis. It has knocked me on my butt and I haven't been able to exercise as much as I'd like. In the past this would have been it for me. I would have eaten a whole pizza and resolved to try harder "tomorrow." But I have managed to stay in my calorie range and get a few workouts in. I'm DYING to get outside and run as soon as my lungs are better. I am getting quite t... Sat, 7 Jan 2012 10:02:12 EST Fat, sausage fingers I have had BIG, FAT fingers for as long as I can remember... I believe my high school class ring was a size (gulp) 11! I'm now down to a 10-ish, but has anyone else had much luck losing finger fat or am I doomed to a lifestyle of sausage fingers? My finger fat bothers me more than my belly fat... at least I can cover that up with clothes. lol I guess I'll take a healthy life and fat fingers over how I previously lived. haha

Here is a picture of my sweet, awesome 3 year old son and ... Fri, 30 Dec 2011 11:05:50 EST Goodbye 300's... FOREVER!! Today celebrated 2 HUGE milestones for me: 50 lbs lost and under 300 lbs! It was SO NICE to see that big 2 pop on the scale today! I'm happy and I feel good!

The pic of the left is at 342 (I don't have one like this at 349--highest weight ever) and the one on the right today-299! So I'm well on my way to losing 100 lbs by my 30th Birthday (Sep 2). I really feel like I'm going to stick to this "lifestyle ... Sun, 18 Dec 2011 20:09:27 EST BLC Week 8 (before/after pics) Part of the last challenge on our Biggest Loser Competition is to write a blog talking about the progress we've made. In the 8 weeks of this competition, I've lost 28 lbs and gone down a pant size or 2... both of which absolutely blow my mind. I have worked my butt off and don't intend to stop.

I have lost inches, too!
Arm - 1.5
Bust - 3
Waist - 4.5
Hips - 5.5
Thigh - 3

I have also settled into a nice routine and am working towards turning this ... Fri, 9 Dec 2011 17:07:55 EST Bring it, December! 43 lbs lost! I feel like I don't blog enough! So here goes... 7 lbs lost last week! 244 It probably helped that I only lost 1 lb the week before, but I'll take it. I'm 6 lbs away from the 200's and I absolutely cannot wait to see them! I have two big goals for December... weigh 299 by New Years Eve and to get 1500 fitness minutes. I'm will accomplish both.

I think I'm driving my family and friends crazy with my fitness/calorie obsession, but they handle it well. My friends invite me ... Sun, 4 Dec 2011 00:54:52 EST 3 more lbs! Seems like the weight is coming off a LOT slower now, but that's ok. I lost 3 lbs this week and I'm super happy! I am still constantly fighting with my mind about not needing as much food as I *think* I want. I'm definitely not starving myself either, though. I'm just more mindful about having a healthy snack and when to stop eating. I'm also only 1 week and 3 runs away from finishing the couch 2 5K program.

So... woohoo on finally accepting that slow and steady wins the race. I a... Sat, 29 Oct 2011 23:16:18 EST 8 Weeks from now... For my Biggest Loser Week 1 Challenge, I'm writing a letter to myself 8 weeks from now:

Carly,

The most important thing you've learned during the past 8 weeks are that this is not just a diet, this is a lifestyle change. I'm very proud for all your hard work and for staying motivated. This has required physical strength, as well as mental strength.

Here is a current picture of myself, hopefully I will be able to see a difference in 8 weeks:

<img s... Sun, 23 Oct 2011 01:21:11 EST I did it!!!! Tonight I completed my 4th 5K and crossed off one of my BIG goals: Run a 5K without stopping to walk. I'm extremely proud of myself and feel on top of the world. I know this is one of many milestones of my healthier lifestyle journey, but I'm definitely taking the time to celebrate this moment! I was only on week 7 (run 25 mins) of my Couch 2 5K program, but decided to keep running and made it! I'm not that sore (we'll see how I feel tomorrow).

WOOHOO!!!
Tue, 18 Oct 2011 21:24:47 EST C25K and good news! So I'm doing the Couch 2 5K program and this week I tackled Week 4... even though it almost killed me. I hadn't had any problem with any other week up until now. Even though I finished all 3 of my runs this week, I'm going to stay on week 4 for another 3 runs to make sure I'm ready to move on.

In other news, I weighed myself today and lost 3 more lbs for a total of 12 lbs!! 244 Sat, 1 Oct 2011 01:51:56 EST Here I go!! I've never really blogged before, but I can see from my new Spark friends how much of a motivator it seems to be... so why not!

Last year I lost 62 lbs running and doing a low carb diet. I felt great, but missed the carbs. Instead of letting myself have 1 cheat, I binged and had about 6 months of cheating. I gained back all the weight I lost, except for about 13 lbs. :( Now I am doing this a different way. I'm tracking everything that goes in my mouth and concentrating heavily on ...
