I haven't been very active on Sparkpeople lately because, after 20 years of being mostly a stay-at-home mom, I'm now working outside the home full-time. I was nervous about getting back into the workplace but I've been blessed with a job I absolutely love. Praise God! 334

I thought I would just pop in to share the completion of a goal my hubby and I started working on last year...running a race a month for a year. This is something we had tried to do 10 years ago when ... Mon, 5 Nov 2012 08:13:13 EST Inspirational Runner Margaret (a legend in our parts 30 ) is 89 and is a frequent participant in our local road races. Here she is coming in at yesterday's Greenway 5k.

She took first in the Female 70-100 category and I loved her excitement as she waited to see if she had won. She is definitely an inspiration for all of us who say, "I could never do that because I'm too ___ (fill in the blank)" Sun, 22 Jul 2012 12:37:15 EST 3 Months progress & Race #7 At the end of February, I read a book called to "Made to Crave" that changed my life. I've since lost 25lbs and shaved 4 minutes off my 5k time.

While looking at photos from our latest race (hubby & I have a goal of running one a month for 12 months), I took a look at pics from just 3 months ago...I'm seeing and feeling a difference. Three months ago I was struggling through the whole race; this week's race, I felt comfortable enough to talk with other runners and cheer people on... Wed, 30 May 2012 11:58:41 EST Anniversary 5k Several year ago, we found a 5k that was being held on the same day as our anniversary and we've been doing it ever since; Friday we celebrated 30 happy years together by running the Waxhaw Town & Country 5k.

Here's my hubby seriously pushing himself, trying to get 1st place in his age group (he's come in 2nd three times and 3rd once.)

<img src=" Mon, 30 Apr 2012 16:34:08 EST Healthy Choices Rub Off on Family Since starting my journey to a healthier me, my hubby has resumed running 57 , and now our 16yo daughter is running again. 312

Yesterday, they had a great time running the "Rock'N Run 5k"

and we're looking forward to our next 5k in September, which we are all doing.

Here's a pic of my daughter sprinting for the finish that look of determination on ... Sun, 15 Aug 2010 12:46:21 EST Answer to prayer...Ankles!!! The last couple of weeks have been a struggle due to the summer heat 67 ...I do NOT sleep well in the summer and it's really affecting my workouts (no energy). In turn, my eating has not been where it should be because my motivation level is down. So I turned to God and asked in prayer for refreshment of spirit.

It did not take long for an answer. While watering my plants, the mosquitoes were out in full force and as I went to swat at one, I noticed something...I have ank... Fri, 11 Jun 2010 10:45:03 EST This weekend's 5k For our 28th anniversary, we celebrated by running the "Marti Estes" 5k in our hometown.

It was a little spur of the moment because my daughter was supposed to have class in the city that morning...but when that was changed, we jumped at the chance to do an annivesary 5k. Last year, even though our annivesary was on a Friday, we were able to find a race and we had so much fun, we wanted to do it again.
... Mon, 26 Apr 2010 09:37:39 EST End of a streak :-( I was on a 48-day exercise streak...then yesterday, it happened. 40 That day when nothing goes as planned. I started the day thinking, I'll watch an episode of one of my favorite tv shows online as I run on the treadmill, run a few errands and then be home to enjoy family time...then my son informed me, he had a few cars he wanted me to drive him to look at. Okay, I'll hop on the treadmill and get a quick run in. "Mom, the internet is out. Can you fix it?" Half an hour of trying on... Wed, 7 Apr 2010 09:39:00 EST My mirror tried to make me quit! While trying on some warm weather clothes yesterday, my mirror told me, "You look dumpy." and "Even if you lose 10 lbs this month, you're still going to be big. Why bother trying?" 18 I thought for a moment and told the mirror, "If I listen to you, we'll be having this same conversation next spring. If I keep doing what I'm doing, I will eventually reach my goal and you will tell me how good I look." The mirror was silent.

The old me would have let that thought discoura... Sun, 4 Apr 2010 08:54:01 EST Scale Experiment Daily, weekly, once a month, never...when do you weigh in? I have always done once a week but I sometimes overestimate how well I have done, then get discouraged when the number isn't what I thought it would be. Then I wonder if I chose the wrong day...a 'bloaty' day, perhaps, and if I had just weighed in the day before, I would have been happy with what I saw. Of course, weighing in every day is an option but being an emotional person, I wonder if I can handle the ups and downs of an daily s... Fri, 2 Apr 2010 09:10:00 EST Light Bulb Moment!! While reading my Bible this morning, I came across this statement in the Holman Commentary that I'm using to study the Psalms.

"What a difference the Lord makes in a believer's life. With the Lord on his side, victory is always sure, even in the face of mounting opposition. But without the Lord, no matter how hard one may try, his efforts will fail. If God is for us, who can be against us? If God undertakes our cause, it matters not who is with us or who is not."

Wow...... Mon, 8 Mar 2010 08:51:01 EST
