It hit me over the holidays that in 2014 I will be 37 (sounds so old to me for some reason) and it will be 20 years since I graduated from high school. While thinking about both of those milestones, I also realized that I've spent a great deal of my adult life sitting on the sidelines watching everyone else take risks (for better or wo... Sat, 4 Jan 2014 19:47:23 EST BLC22 Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5383857 My goals for BLC22 are:

1) Lose 10 pounds - this would put me at less than 5 pounds from my final goal weight!

2) Reduce waist circumference to under 30 inches

3) Keep up with my streaks:
- at least 2 servings of veggies 6+ days each week
- at least 20 minutes exercise 6+ days each week

4) Stick to nutrition plan more often than I have in the past. I will allow myself one "cheat" meal each week, and will be flexible around holidays an... Sun, 9 Jun 2013 22:14:11 EST You are the strongest person I know http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5374526 "You are the strongest person I know."

These words were written to me in my Mother's Day card this year by my 16 year old daughter. Honestly, I haven't stopped thinking about it since!

I do not feel strong. I feel weak much of the time.

I know I have a problem saying yes when I want to say no. I avoid things because I don't want to hurt other's feelings. I forgive when perhaps I shouldn't. I let people take advantage of me.

Sometimes I feel sad... Sat, 1 Jun 2013 11:36:42 EST May Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5342503 This morning I weighed in at 150.9 - that's 23 pounds down from January! And only 10 lbs from my previous low weight. I'm now aiming for 135, but to keep up the momentum and continue on this path, I thought I should lay out some goals for the month:

** lose 2-4 pounds
** workout 1500-2000 minutes
** focus on ST
** TRACK, TRACK, TRACK!
** keep up with BLC break challenge
** join a gym OR buy more free weights, a bar, and a bench
** focus on my family! Wed, 1 May 2013 21:26:40 EST Moving Meditation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5322833 I love where we live and I love walking around the desert! I call it my "moving meditation"! Thought I would share some pics from our 4.5 mile walk this morning.

Heading up to the highway from the neighborhood - the trees are blooming and everything is green and pretty!

Once we reached the highway, it was a mile walk to the next neighborhood entrance. Sun, 14 Apr 2013 13:21:44 EST What's on my mind... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5282973 This round of BLC has been beyond fabulous for me! I have rediscovered my motivation and drive and have been steadily losing each week so far! I also absolutely adore the team I am on (woohoo - go Golden Phoenix!) and am in awe of our super star Captain Jane!!

Funny enough, it really is the basics that will get you the results you want! I've been pretty consistent with planning and tracking my food every day, and the GPs introduced me to CICO calculations which have been a huge ... Mon, 11 Mar 2013 19:40:10 EST Fresh Fruit Cleanse results and observations http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5246844 Last week I did a cleanse following the plan in the book "Fresh Fruit Cleanse" by Leanne Hall. I did it because my sister-in-law wanted to try it and was asking some family members to do it with her for support and motivation. My mom sent me the book and I read up on it and thought it looked like a nice challenge and good thing to "reset" my body! 250

The day before the cleanse started was Super Bowl Sunday (of course!!). I followed a macrobiotic meal plan that day... Mon, 11 Feb 2013 19:28:34 EST Finally a positive blog! Yay! :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5156267 I am in week 2 of following a fairly consistent plan! Yay!!

I have eaten out a few times and my choices have been hit or miss those times, but overall I've done a pretty good job staying within my calorie range for the day. And I can say without a doubt that I will NOT be eating cheese anymore, lol! The actual story behind that would be TMI, but suffice to say this will make it easier to stick to my strict veg*n food plan!

Also, I've been walking and am pretty stoke... Tue, 4 Dec 2012 18:41:12 EST I miss Pittsburgh! :( http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5146207 First, I will say I absolutely love Arizona! The weather is amazing and the scenery is beautiful! I have seriously never seen such expansive and clear skies - it's gorgeous!!

I've been here almost 2 years now and, although I'm enjoying it, something is missing. I am no stranger to moving either - grew up as a military brat, then government brat, and was in the military myself. I've really tried to pinpoint what is so different this time but I can't! All I know is that I have l... Sun, 25 Nov 2012 17:38:51 EST Someone broke my button... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5145098 Okay, not really, but seriously I've been banging on the freaking RESET button for months now and nothing's happening. And my "fat pants" are getting TIGHT so I better figure it out soon because I REFUSE to buy bigger jeans to fit my ballooning butt!

So, I'm not waiting until Monday, but I am waiting until tomorrow to get back in the swing of things. Went grocery shopping yesterday for yummy-good-for-me stuff so I'm all ready to go on that end. Also have the gym membership that ... Sat, 24 Nov 2012 12:42:09 EST Hello!!! I'm baaaack! :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5123739 Holy cow, I can't believe I have not blogged on here since the middle of September!! And I really haven't logged in all that much since either, not to mention the lack of exercise, poor eating, etc... Well, fortunately like all good things, all bad things can also come to an end! 211

I decided to sit out BLC this round and I really regret it. I've had no accountability and no discipline. Things are finally looking up again personally for me, so am counting on that... Sun, 16 Sep 2012 15:03:25 EST Day 12 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme + Nerves!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5000164 Today I did the 39 minute Extreme Total Body workout and a 23 minute Core Recovery workout. I have done the total body previously and was quite happy to see that I've already improved since the last time I did it in the sense I was able to get lower in my lunges (even though I severely dislike them - ha!) and was able to do the more advanced moves during the cardio blasts! The core workout was quite nice - challenging but not too much so where I would feel frustrated. I'm actually starting... Fri, 3 Aug 2012 22:59:56 EST Day 11 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4998724 Today I feel kind of lazy... 40 On the schedule was the upper body recovery - only 23 minutes. After working out for 40 minutes or more pretty consistently, 23 minutes doesn't seem long enough lol! But I'll go with it!!

Also managed to get my protein intake just over 100g today! Yippee! Interestingly enough, my carbs seemed to go down as the protein went up! Thu, 2 Aug 2012 22:29:17 EST Day 10 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme + Protein! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4997950 Missed posting my blog last night for day 10, so here goes... Yesterday was yoga day - yay!! It felt so great to stretch out all my muscles, partiuclarly my back! And I was able to get my feet flat on the ground for down dog! 244 What a stretch!

Yesterday I also made a point to get more protein in my diet - increased about 20g from a typical day before. After talking to John about it last night, I'm going to try to get even more going forward by supplementing with ... Thu, 2 Aug 2012 12:17:34 EST Day 9 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4995264 Phew! Today's workout was 40 minutes of Kickboxing Cardio followed by the 23 minute Upper Body Recovery workout again. I can't wait for yoga tomorrow, lol!!

I did forget to say yesterday that I weighed in and had lost 1.5 pounds in week 1. Not too shabby!

Also, wondering if I need to up my calories... I generally eat around 1500 calories a day, but am doing 40 to 65 minutes of pretty good exercise. I don't eat meat or dairy and try to stay away from processed foods ... Tue, 31 Jul 2012 19:41:47 EST Day 8 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4993742 Yesterday was rest day and I rested! Lol! Today started week 2 focusing on upper body. The first workout was the 40 minute Upper Body Extreme, followed by a 23 minute upper body "recovery". Again, this was no walk in the park - "recovery" is definitely misleading! 334 I am quite sure I will have sore arms tomorrow! They are currently jiggly jello noodles!!! 345 Mon, 30 Jul 2012 20:48:00 EST Day 6 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4991192 Holy mackerel! Lesson learned!!! Don't expect your end-of-the-day workout will be a good one when you don't eat properly during the day! Not that I ate terribly today, but I really didn't give any thought to tracking, making sure I was getting enough protein and carbs, etc. And tonight's workout ended up being tough!

Today I did the 40 minute Upper Body Extreme, which is one of my favorite workouts, followed by 22 minutes of Lower Body Recovery. Ummm, let's just say there's no... Sun, 29 Jul 2012 01:27:53 EST Day 5 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4989612 Today was Kickboxing Cardio Extreme again - love it!! Didn't eat the greatest breakfast today, but got in some good protein for lunch and will eat a good dinner (I'm heading to the grocery store shortly).

I'm definitely noticing a difference in my cardio capacity since I started back with a regfular workout schedule a few weeks ago. No modified moves for me! 244

And Lexi asked me if I lost my weight - of course this could have been because she wants som... Fri, 27 Jul 2012 17:05:11 EST Day 4 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4988691 Yay for yoga day!! It was so nice to stretch after leg day, lol! This workout was about 40 minutes long and was a nice combination of some of the familiar yoga poses. So far I'm feeling pretty good this week! Tomorrow is kickboxing and Saturday is upper body with a lower body recovery workout - sounds like a great combination! Sunday is rest day, or some sort of recovery - might do some walking if it's cool enough. Fri, 27 Jul 2012 01:21:11 EST Day 3 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4987119 Before I talk about my workout today, can I just so how very, very, very much I prefer fresh veggies to frozen??? I didn't have enough carrots to feed everyone and John wanted to save the corn for tomorrow night, so I pulled out a bag of frozen broccoli. And... just yuck!! Give me fresh veggies any day, please! 69

So today's workout was 40 minutes of Extreme Lower Body plus 10 minutes of Bonus Abs. Lower Body - what can I say?? I have such a love-hate relationship... Wed, 25 Jul 2012 23:04:28 EST Day 2 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4985274 So, my buns were a little sore from yesterday's workout and I had a little bit of soreness in my chest from flies (I went heavy), but overall I felt pretty good going in to today's workout. On tap today was Kickboxing Cardio! Let me just say that kickboxing is my ABSOLUTE most favorite workout - I LOVE it! Can you tell?? 216

This workout truly was a great cardio session! Within a few minutes of warming up my heart rate was up and pumping! The workout combines punche... Tue, 24 Jul 2012 19:25:19 EST Day 1 - 10 lb Slimdown Extreme http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4983773 I am no longer blogging my food log daily - will be making the effort to enter everything in the tracker so everyone can see just how much I'm really eating. 334 I appreciated the concern, but it was making me feel a little defensive and I didn't like that.

So..... Now y'all get to read (if anyone does, lol!) about my experience with Chris Freytag's 10lb Slimdown Extreme! First, let me say I absolutely love Chris Freytag!! Sadly, yes. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4710263 I remember back in the late 80s looking at pictures of female bodybuilders with my sister and both of us saying how beautiful we thought they were and how much we would love to look like them!

Fast forward 20 years and I have several books related to weight training, some specifically for women and some general in nature, I have a gym membership, I buy Oxygen magazine and marvel over the beautiful bodies, BUT I can't find the will to start. 39

I know I'm a... Sun, 29 Jan 2012 12:47:07 EST You are what you eat - and your body don't lie! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4695074 I was reading the February edition of Oxygen magazine this morning and two things really stuck out to me...

1) You are what you eat!

This is so true in so many ways! I used to LOVE McD's fries - I mean really love them! The hotter the better, and a little bit of salt - finger-clicking good! Oh wait, that's a different place lol, but I did lick my fingers... 2 Yeah, you can "save up" some calories in your day to "enjoy" these little morsels, but really wha... Sat, 21 Jan 2012 11:49:50 EST 30 Days of Rockin' Body - Days 1 & 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4643312 Ok, I'm going to try something new! Every 30 days or so I'm going to switch up my workouts with different programs. I bought the Rockin' Body set for myself for Christmas, so we'll start with that! 250

Day 1:
I just picked a workout. Never mind the fact I haven't REALLY worked out HARD for about 3 weeks, I chose Rock It Out. Um, can I say that was a little more difficult than I anticipated?? I even used my wimpy 3 pound weights and at certain times had to put ... Thu, 29 Dec 2011 12:48:21 EST How I gained 20 lbs in a year - and what I'm doing about it! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4641362 Umm, yeah, you read that correctly. I gained 20 freaking pounds this year! BIG fail!!

How did I gain this weight, you might ask? Obviously it's not so you can do the same, but hopefully you can learn a thing or two from my mistakes!!

1. I stopped tracking my food
- For me, tracking what I eat is crucial to weight loss. I *think* I know what I'm eating, but in reality it always seems to be enough food for me plus my best friend!

2. I moved
-... Wed, 28 Dec 2011 09:42:27 EST Has anyone tried The Thrive Diet? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4621248 In some reading I have been doing, I came across The Thrive Diet by Brendan Brazier -
www.brendanbrazier.com/book/thriveho
me.html
.

This appeals to me for a number of reasons, including vegan eating (I am a vegetarian TRYING to make that next step!), food as a natural "medicine", natural ways to improve sleep and energy, and eating for fitness.

In my reading, it seems that it can be quite time-intensive to prepare the recommended meals. Some things ... Sun, 11 Dec 2011 11:27:00 EST Where there's a will there's a way! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4619242 There are several things my mom used to say all the time that have stuck with me through the years... Cheaters never prosper! Patience is a virtue! And where there's a will, there's a way!

This last one is particularly significant as we contemplate the monumental task of fitting exercise and meal planning/tracking/preparation in to our already busy schedules.

If we REALLY want to make changes and lose the weight and get healthy, we HAVE to find a way to do it! And it... Fri, 9 Dec 2011 14:31:00 EST My joy of cooking!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4618164 I was at the grocery store yesterday afternoon buying food for dinner and stopped to browse the magazines. I am a sucker for cookbooks (I probably have 30+) and cooking magazines, so typically just stick with Oxygen and Health magazines and leave it at that. But I saw this magazine and couldn't resist (and Lexi talked me in to it, lol!)!! There are so many yummy looking recipes in here! They even give you tips for lightening the recipes! Tonight we are having the Baked Stuffed French Toa... Thu, 8 Dec 2011 19:00:31 EST
