BSHM19's SparkPeople Blog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal.asp?id=BSHM19 BSHM19's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community SparkPeople.com http://assets2.sparkpeople.com/assets/nav/logo_spark.gif http://www.sparkpeople.com/ Huh?!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1809426 I'm so excited. I didn't want to weigh in today but did it anyway. It was a weekend of a lot of fatty food, and I haven't had a net gain in workouts. I usually see losses at the END of the week due to work-out schedule. So imagine my surprise to see lucky number 7 pop up! I'm 117.5--one-half pound away from my "your dreamin' sister" goal of 117!
Due to job-related stuff, I will have to miss Th and F workouts. But maybe I can make one up this weekend. I'm too close now to not ach... Wed, 18 Feb 2009 13:35:46 EST Valentines Weekend http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1800609 Ate lots of great mexican food this weekend, which will translate to lbs on the scale. Tonight we celebrate V Day (a day late) at a fave restaurant. More lbs there! But I'd rather spend my calories on good steak and seafood than chocolate (shocking but true). Have successfully stayed away from crap this weekend, due in large part to eating my healthy chocolate instead which takes away the cravings for junk. I did get in a weekend workout (to makeup for the one I will miss on Prez Day; ... Sun, 15 Feb 2009 15:54:01 EST Still shedding though more shredding will have to wait. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1791746 Well, the weight is still coming off. My scale weighs in 1/2 lb increments, and I don't really get excited unless I weigh in at a particular weight for 2-3 days. I was 118.5 for 3 days in a row, and today I weighed in at 118. Happy to have reached 120, I am now one pound away from what I considered to be a fairly unrealistic goal. So this is cool. I've lost 5.5 lbs in less than a month after getting back on SP. I'm eating well, I'm strong, and I've fought off this bad bug that most rec... Wed, 11 Feb 2009 22:36:10 EST Crazy week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1759343 What an emotional roller coaster this week has been. It hasn't helped that we had a city-wide snow day Wed., exercise class on Thurs. too was cancelled, I missed Friday's gym time due to volunteering at school, and our family is sick making sleep a challenge. But shoveling snow, an added trip to the gym on Sat., and careful eating and tracking resulted in consistent weight loss down to 120. It's been the ONE thing I can control and therefore makes me feel better about life in general. And... Sun, 1 Feb 2009 13:08:03 EST Whoa. Found out yesterday, we're preggers. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1737345 Guess I'll be trading my 6-pack for a 1-pack. Sun, 25 Jan 2009 13:20:37 EST BMI vs. WHR http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1732380 So I know a little about Body Mass Index and Waist-to-Hip ratio (mine is 0.78, making me a "pear" vs. an apple or avocado. Hmmm... avocados... yummy. But I digress.)
Today I learned from a doctor friend that for those concerned with cardiovascular health, BMI is out and the tape measure is in. Here's a quote from a nice handout written in layman's language that he gave me:
If you're looking for an outward physical indication of atherosclerosis, you should forget the BMI index and... Fri, 23 Jan 2009 17:14:44 EST BMI http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1729159 Yesterday's end of the day Tanita scale measurements without much hydration: 122 lbs > 26 BMI. (That was with 16 oz of water while working out in the a.m. only, plus any liquid in food including a small orange before dinner.)
After dinner and 3 ~8oz glasses of water: 124 lbs > 24 BMI :)
Apparently hydration does make a difference. Thu, 22 Jan 2009 17:50:25 EST less than 1 wk of monitoring diet results in more lbs gone :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1725595 I've only been back on Sparkpeople.com logging diet since last Friday, and I've lost another 1.5 lbs. I also missed half my Monday workout due to kid out of school, so that's pretty good. I just FELT skinnier--turns out I was!
Trainer I know says those BMI calculations online are way off and even my Tanita scale will be too compared to caliper method. he suggests that for someone with my muscle tone and short stature I could be as much a HALF! Scale also depends a lot on hydration.... Wed, 21 Jan 2009 19:04:53 EST Gone but not lost! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1707565 Wow! I can't believe I haven't used this site since July'08! I was walking and lugging 40-lbs of kid-in-a-wagon 2.5 miles a couple times per week towards the end of the summer. I was doing recumbant bike at the gym maybe once/week too. But in September, my routine totally changed.
I've been going to the gym 3-4 times per week consistently since Sept! I've lost another 5 lbs of fat (128.5 to 123.5), but more importantly, I gained tons of muscle and strength, endurance and stamina. ... Fri, 16 Jan 2009 17:57:49 EST Lost 10! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1253469 Woo hoo! I couldn't believe it yesterday but confirmed it today...I've lost 10 lbs in 6 weeks. I do feel much better about being in a one-piece bathing suit--just in time for me to take my son to the pool. 9 Fri, 6 Jun 2008 10:27:43 EST I'm a loser! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1230722 Ok, so I've been doing Sparkpeoplecom for a month and I've lost 7.5 lbs! I'm pretty excited, especially since I've been horrible about working out 3x/week as initially planned. I avg about one gym workout per week actually due to schedules, no matter how much of a priority I make it. But I augment by doing a 45 min (1.5 mile) walk around the neighborhood at least once per week, and the sparkpeople videos by Coach Nicole are great. I have to attribute a lot to the enlightenment that comes ... Mon, 26 May 2008 21:31:10 EST Ups and downs http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1184466 I was so excited to weigh in 2 days ago and find that I'd lost 6 lbs in my first week. I felt better, and even seemed to see a difference in the mirror and the way clothes fit. Weigh-ins yesterday and today have me at only 3-4 lbs lost. My scale weighs to the 1/2 lb., so clearly it's going to be a variable "exercise". 192
Speaking of weigh-ins, I got the old food scale out by day3. That helped!
Week 1 down 104 Accountability and tracking here works for me.... Sat, 3 May 2008 17:12:49 EST Better diet on day2, but something's gotta go..oh yeah, exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1168169 2nd day as a SparkPerson 20 and I see now that eating is good. But it takes time, time I don't have when out (yesterday's diet is very representative of a pre-SparkPeople day). But it always comes down to choices. Today's choice was: exercise, nap to make up for lost sleep, or fight to get Jamie down. Needless to say I didn't get exercise or the add'l zzz's. That plus eve. music class means I went from snack at 2:30ish to dinner at 10:00, a big gap. Tried to eat slowly and... Fri, 25 Apr 2008 23:45:43 EST
